Most importantly, stay away from any lessor that forces dispatch.
Owner operators must maintain their independence.
Also, once you lease on, you'll be operating under their motor carrier authority. Also, the lessor should be providing liability and cargo insurance.
Look for those which offer rates where the lessor has already factored out their fuel surcharge.
In other words , the rate seen on the load board is the rate you'll earn.

I know I busted your chops hard about the trucker video but I wanted to follow up on that and this vid is perfect for that! I busted your chops on other channels too regarding that video as well. I ain’t gonna lie! You got gumption and a lot sense and apparently some big nuts! I’m sure you’re a good dude and you put a ton of info out there and will continue to do that throughout your career. Just be careful because you are a part of the TRUCKER FAMILY and bashing your family on video is not my nor many others cup of tee. The good thing about American entrepreneurship is you can do what ya want. Your far ahead of many is this biz and you’ll continue to grow but grow smart. That’s all I got and take it for what it’s worth!

Looking into getting into the transportation business. This video is information, however the question I have is when leasing onto a company, are you able to use your truck for personal use when off duty? Would you recommend starting your own LLC or Scorp and having the truck leased to this company? What kind of insurance do you need, just personal insurance for when you are not hauling a load and when you are it will be covered on the company you are leased under? I do appreciate all comments in advance! Keep up the good work sir.

Lease my 200,000k F150! Can tow some furniture...maybe a refrigerator as long as I don't have to move it myself...not keen on being crushed.
As a side note, I'm surprised there aren't Final Mile brokers now. That segment has taken off and is currently run by 3PL's with asset based or dedicated trucks (likely as a service to customer and to ensure trained techs). Could likely save capital by outsourcing that, since everything else is outsourced to ensure capital flexibility and maximum RR.

Hey Alex thanks for another great video and the answers to some of my previous questions. I have a f550 and a trailer already picked out that my currently company is selling me before I quit. I am getting my CDL before I start hotshotting. For lease under option will the companies want GVCR under 26k for non-cdl or both? The truck and trailer is currently rated for up to 31k hauling.

    • @dariuslacombe4692

You can only D-rate a "new" trailer as per DOT @ purchase time. Even though trailer manufacturers will accommodate you D-rating even multiple times, DOT and FMCSA consider it as a fraudulent sticker and will put you OFS and even consificate your trailer

You can use most anything. Finding loads, making money might be a issue. By 14 GN I’m guessing a 14ft GN? Or 14k lb GN? I’m hoping it’s a joke. But people have used half ton, bumper pull trailers to do local bulky, but lite hauls.
Long trips. Your time is the same, fuel usage likely close. You can (almost) NEVER get 3 partials on your trailer.

New MC is not a problem. Maybe it is for you in your situation. You have A LOT (too much) going on. Being on the road and handling the business side of things for yourself and everyone else under you is too much.

FWIW, im putting a driver in my truck, putting my other truck on the road for another driver and leasing on 2 other O/Os. I'll be handling all back office work. I have the work available. Dont have the time to manage it while driving myself.

@@loganr8184 I live in the Netherlands. I'm 17 and I'm working at a warehouse making some money and gaining experience. When I get my Car license I can start with my truck and trailer license. I hope I will get a permanent Visa in the USA when I have a couple of years of driving experience. I have to get a CDL all over again but it will be worth it all. Almost all US states have a lower cost of living and truckers get paid way more in the USA.
