This album and this other album by the band Stormkeep were probably my 2 favorites from 2021. It's been on repeat for me for months now. They added some slight symphonic elements in this one compared to their earlier material that was more murky and muddy. The rest of the album has individual songs about individual stories in world war 1 without any kind of chronology to it, but this song kicked off the album. With their live shows, the band dresses up in authentic Ukrainian world war 1 army outfits and throw a bunch of mud on themselves to make it look like they've been in the trenches. I hope to one day catch a show from them.

I wouldn't compare 1914 and Sabaton because of diferences on their philosophy. A war in Sabaton's eyes is fun but if we see from 1914's eyes we'll feel there's no fun in a war. Just only death, destruction, sorrow, desolation, grief and fear. I like 1914's point of view. We need more bands who can show us a war with its horroble side without any romantic and idealistic vibe. We have a war in our land more then an year. And there's no fun. Every day we lose a lot of people because of imperialistic russian ideas. A lot of civilians and children had died as well. Some of towns are completely destoyed. Lots of families have no home. War is absolute disaster.
Yo i would recommend Don't Tread On Me (Harlem Hellfighters). Besides being a homage to Henry Johnson's stand against 24 Germans, for me this is the best song on the album
The reason that things seem so similar to what's going on now is because history repeats itself. There were wars and evil things and there will be new wars and evil acts.
Interesting how a lot of black metal bands, when not doing songs about the occult or demonology, etc, they do songs about actual events in dark human history. Now debate which one has more evil in it.
Great episode this go round. Loving the historical aspect of it. I’d be curious if there’s a counter view to this bands take on history. Pretty damn well produced and polished for black metal in my opinion. I need to check into more current BLk mtl. Cheers from TX!

This is a history metal song about the start of WW1. Good black metal examples would be bands like: Gorgoroth, Immortal, 1349, Dark Funeral, Judas Iscariot, Watain, etc etc ect

If you dig Historical Metal, I Highly recommend giving Civil War a listen. Closer to Sabaton than 1914, closer still to Dio and Judas Priest
