Lovebites Someone's Dream/Edge of the world Memorial For the Warrior Souls Judgement Day Tour/Soldier Stands Solitarily Fami is awesome on Bass
Hal-ca has a rare combination of speed, power, precision, and passion. Her playing is like combining the best of Steve Vai and Carlos Santana into one guitarist. The music seems to flow from the depths of her soul.
These three are monsters. Miyu on bass also sweeps, slaps/pops, everything. Haruca on guitar also sings while playing technical stuff. Just huge talent from these three.
The Astonishing A S T ER I S M!!😮
that smile after 1 second of listening is speaking volumes.
After this he could not stop talking about how this was EXACTLY his style of music
Wow! Something new. Love watching so talented people as I`m musician myself (at least I try, don`t kick me)))). Worth exploring! This snare "shhhhh" is obviously caused by bass vibrating strings on the drum`s bottom. It`s very cool that drummer doesn`t try to stop it but uses as an effect, making this sooothing vibe. Thank you and those who suggested it!
That makes sense! I knew I heard the snare hahaha
Great comments and recommendations so far. Wall of text incoming.
Asterism is:
Haruka (Hal-Ca) Noma, lead guitar and vocals, born 11/23/2002
Miyu Yoshinaka, bass, born 3/12/2002
Mio Yoshinaka, drums, born 11/14/1999
All started playing at a young age (Haruka at 10, Mio and Miyu at 6-8). They all attended the Yamaha Music Foundation school in Fukuoka. They originally performed separately (Mio and Miyu, Haruka) but met in 2014 and performed together in the annual Yamaha Music Revolution competition.
They played several festivals and competed in various music competitions until the release of their first EP, The Session Vol. 1, in 2017. It included three covers and two original songs (155 and Magic Bullet) both written by Haruka. She wrote 155 when she was 11 and they can be seen playing it in this video th-cam.com/video/2gBCmUWqtJU/w-d-xo.html when they were 11, 11 and 13. Their second EP, the Session Vol. 2 was released a year later and included two more original songs (Rising Moon and Yunagi). Their first full length album, Ignition, was also released in 2018 and included seven original songs and two covers. All the original songs on these EPs and album were written by Haruka between the ages of 11 and 15. Ignition is mostly traditional hard rock and metal and includes Dawn, Blaze and Light in the Darkness. The fancam videos of Dawn, at Club Utero, and Blaze and Light in the Darkness, at Fukuoka Graf (Welcome to Inferno Vol. Max), are classics. They toured Asia and the US supporting the release of Ignition. They produced a series of live in studio performances of most of these songs (battle sessions and 360 videos) and all are available on TH-cam.
They next released an EP (Guernica) and then a full-length album extension of the EP (Guernica+a) in 2020. These releases marked a change in style to a more progressive metal/rock sound and includes classics such as Church and Gunfire. All the songs on these releases are original songs. They did live in studio performances of almost all the songs on Guernica+a and these are available on TH-cam.
Next Asterism released an album of anime song covers (Animetic), an extended version of that album with the singer PelleK providing vocals and two EPs and an album of original songs with Haruka on vocals called Aside, Beside and Decide. There are official music videos of most of the songs on Animetic. Their most recent release is a concept album with Manga creator Acky Bright called Planet of Metal where they provide the music for Acky's drawings. They have also done some fun singles like Stardom, Shooting Star and Crescendo. They also love to do covers and there are like 30 TH-cam shorts of them covering classic metal and other songs.
Asterism is perhaps best before a live audience. Haruka has amazing charisma and stage presence for anyone, not to mention for a small (4'8") Japanese woman. She plays with skill, soul and a ferocious attitude, and a smile on her face almost the whole time. They play frequently at clubs in Japan and did a small US tour with shows in LA and NYC and performances on the street in Venice Beach and Hollywood Blvd.
Haruka particularly has a significant presence on social media with an active Instagram channel and her own TH-cam channel. She frequently posts playthroughs of their own songs and a lot of covers.
Recommended songs for reactors, in chronological order include:
• Blaze and/or Light in the Darkness (Welcome to the Inferno Vol. Max) - two exceptional performances (fan cam) at a small club before an enthusiastic hometown crowd
• Dawn (live 4/20/2019) - a good quality fancam of their performance of Dawn at Club Utero
• Gunfire (live in studio) - professionally produced live in studio performances.
* 155 (RH in 2014) - see one of their earliest performances of one of their first original songs
• Rising Moon (Official MV) - a well-produced music video of one of their other early songs
• Scuttle Buttin’ (SRV cover) - fancam of a SRV cover with their own flavor
• Unravel (official MV) - professionally produced music video of an anime cover off of Animetic
• Fiction (official MV) - first official MV of a song with Haruka vocals
There are tons of other videos of live performances and several additional live in studio and fan cam videos. Just about anything by Asterism is fantastic.
I sent you links to all the above videos on your Patreon
Thank you for reacting to them. If you are looking for another suggestion by them there's a live on stage video of Dawn that is really good.
This is a mellower song. Much of their stuff is harder. I am a super fan. They just do not get the attention they deserve.
It’s a travesty.
I've seen the name of this group quite often but....first time listening.
Definitely different from what I normally listen to but big props to them.
sounds like some amazing and talented musicians.
Church was inspired by a painting by Pablo Picasso! During WW2 the Germans marched into the town of Guernica and demolished the town, the only building that was standing was a church! This song speaks to me hard! As a guitarist, I imagine the Germans marching in and creating havoc, it is what Hal-Ca is doing on her guitar as she sets the tone! She is a 4’8 guitar goddess! She’s my favorite out of all Japanese guitarist! I was lucky enough to hear this live! I have met them in LA and bought them jerseys! They’re special in my heart! All three are very talented and deserve the recognition!!
agree, they are incredible musicians and need more recognition.
That incident enspired their whole album "Guernica", it's a masterpiece. And the successor Guernica +a.
@ after I had posted my comment I said man I should’ve explained about the album as a whole! Yes you’re right ! Face/burned my friend
Glad I - and many others - recommended this! We're here for the bass info but Hal-ca's guitar is very, very sweet.
Yay!
Not an up-to-the-neck fan, but always enjoy them. I ran across them because they did a "Megitsune" cover when they were much younger. Easy to be mesmerized by the guitars but the kid on the drums is really good. Thanks for the reaction!
Mio doesn’t get enough credit for his drum work on such a small kit.
These young people have played with Bootsy Collins , he's on their song called Blaze. They are an awesome trio.
Great music with awesome talent. The drummer and bass player are really underrated.
The bass player let us know right away!
Fun fact: Asterism is actually signed with Amuse, same BM company, and when BM organized the Fox Fest in 2024, they used Asterism as backing band for Metalverse!
The bass player doesn't always use the 7 stringed base, iirc he swaps between that one and a 5 stringed, depending on the song
Oh, he wanted "heavy" 😏
This criminally underrated band is so incredibly talented and they're still so young. Hal-Ca is my favorite guitarist, not only because she can shred, but because she brings the feels and emotions like noone else.
But no, I'm sorry, there are no thousands, there's only one Miyu on bass. And he does things that noone else does.
"Dawn" next.
I didn’t know that Hal-Ca was your favorite guitarist? 🤔
Oh maybe you told me and, right after, I told it to Hal-Ca when I introduced you to them at their booth at the Japan Expo in Paris 😆🤗
@2abug yeah, I think I remember something like that, too. But also that you told her I'd be shy 😏
@@UltraHD.7 😬😅😛
My favourite bassist and my favourite guitarist in the same band, and Mio's great on drums too. If your bass playing is even slightly reminiscent of Miyu's, I definitely want to hear it! Please do post some of your stuff.
I came across this band when they were really young like late elementary school early junior high young and they never cease to amaze me they primarily do instrumentals but in the last 3 years or so they started adding vocals to their songs they've also been coming to the states last couple of years were they perform in venues as well as on the streets of Hollywood and Santa Monica Pier
I haven't heard this one and I absolutely loved it. Good to see Cody again and great reaction!
That was epic huh.
I have a very strong recomendation for you two, but I think I will wait to an hypothetical stream with Cody to recommend it live haha
the best trio!🤘🏻🔥
Great reaction and this is a very talented group of young musicians that are extremely technical. They play pretty much anything they want. The guitarist, Hal-Ca has also started singing in the last couple of years (prior they were an instrumental band).
The most impressive part of this band (and there is a lot that is impressive about this band) is that Hal-ca's guitar somehow stays in tune after riding that tremolo bar to death.
My favorite Asterism song is them with Pineapple Express, just because the song has vocals and all the usual stuff. Her voice is good in this, too:
th-cam.com/video/Vb5Vo4PnsSc/w-d-xo.html
For harder stuff try Dawn, Blaze, Light in the Darkness, just about everything else they have done. The song this album is from is a concept album that is more kind of prog rock or metal. Haruka is a beast shredder but it always serves her composition.
This song is pretty mellow for Asterism . If you want to hear something with more of a punch check out [Rising Moon] MV ( AL The Sessions vol 2. ) ! Thanks Guys ✌🤘🎀
So glad you've finally " found " Asterism .
Some info - Hal-ca ( guitar ) is 22 and TINY ! Miyu ( bass ) is also 22 and his brother Mio ( drums ) is 24 .
The band was formed in 2014 - I'll let you work out their ages when it all started !
" Church " although a great piece in isolation is actually part of a " concept " EP " Guernica " and the album called " Guernica + a " based ( unsurprisingly ) on the events in Guernica in Spain in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War when the town was bombed by a combination of Nazi and Italian fascist planes and immortalised by Pablo Picasso's evocative and iconic painting of the same name .
The tracks on the EP ( in order - which tells a musical story ) are -
1) MUSIC
2) Gunfire
3) Faced / Burned
4) Church
5) Day 26
6) 000
They can be MUCH heavier than this - I'd recommend Studio versions in the main simply because most of the live is Fan Shot and TBH the quality on most of them is grim - but there are some more professional ones like this version of " Dawn " shot live in Paris in 2024 - th-cam.com/video/dznF5KISCMs/w-d-xo.html - ( the other Paris lives are ok too
ENJOY !
I would like to report a crime:
Charge: Theft of my musical soul
Assailant: Asterism
🙂↔️🙂↔️
I think the snare you heard at the end was the bass rattling the snares under the snare drum. 80% sure.
I'm 99.999763% sure.
some awesome actual live show footage, not a sterile studio environment. Hal-Ca is great at working the crowd.
"Blaze" live th-cam.com/video/51Pxkp8lGAs/w-d-xo.html
"Dawn" live th-cam.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/w-d-xo.html
Love it! Asterism is probably the band I've listened the most since I discovered them some 6-7 years ago. All three are insanely talented, writing some of the best metal music out there, but they just can't seem to reach a wider audience. As you just heard, Haruka is an exceptional guitarist, but you won't see her really come to life until you put her in front of a live audience. My favorite song of theirs is _Dawn,_ which is absolutely one of the best instrumental prog metal songs ever written:
th-cam.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IwJTd-w034TAghS0
"Everybody" 🙂 knows about Asterism...a hidden gem of Japanese rock.
In the "two reactors" format, you should check:
- Down (2019/04/20) very good fancam masterpiece
- Light in The Darkness (live Inferno)
- Unravel (video)
...
and, just for fun
JUMP - Van Halen cover
🤘😝🤘 Hal-Ca was only 18 when this video came out.
asterism dawn live next please
I've got an autographed copy of their 1st CD
You need to check out Metal gandhara with a collaboration between Asterism and Pineapple Express. Hal-ca shows off her singing abilities.
I’m glad you guys react to asterism… they are very young and talented band… I really don’t understand why reactors don’t react to them more… if you want more heavier song than I would like to recommend a song called “Gunfire” Live in Studio… I think both of you would enjoy this song… cause both the guitarist and the bassist show what they can do with their instruments… hope you guys react to this song… here is the link th-cam.com/video/n6OZRHApn3U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=G6O6Xtpa2vjQFuzz
Hal-Ca was like 17 here and the brothers are in sync
👍👍Outstanding, super cool🔥🔥. 🖖❤
I noticed he has a double truss rod on that 7 string
Does Cody know of Charles Berthoud's channel? It should be a hospital channel because every upload of him playing something is just sick. He's one of those, "Dang son, leave some talent for the rest of us" types.
HAL-CA!
Ok. Now we are going offscript with Asterism lets add Sokininaru into the mix, shall we?
Seconded! He probably wasn't ready until now ;)
CHURCH is a beautiful and sophisticated song, but this live video from five years ago will melt your face:
BLAZE - th-cam.com/video/51Pxkp8lGAs/w-d-xo.html.
You can see sweep play by base guitar and more hard guitar play.
😛🤘
Rising Moon is a little bit more traditional of a song
Maybe for an appetizer on a future Asterism reaction, here is Hal-ca doing a guitar cover of Band-Maid's Choose Me

MY comment is unrelated to this but I just randomly remembered a song that I really think you would DIG! if you don't wanna check it out, that's fine by me! But you should give "Shum" by Go_A a try! It's a folk song from Ukraine! ....with a twist!
It is an ESP 7 sting bass. Custom made for Miyu. By the way, he turns 23 soon.
Please check out their latest song, "Crescendo". Hal-ca sings (beautifully) and it's actually a great song even if it's a bit pop. It's an anime opening and I think it will open up doors for the band to a wider audience. And YES, they still shred.
I told you, that the good Hal-Ca is a 'decent' guitarist. :) And Miyu on bass is a monster. The bass is indeed from ESP, a custom-made model that can't be bought.
The numbers in terms of their views and followers are so far from what these 3 deserve (imo). And believe me, with Church you've picked up their probably 'quietest' track. :) You want a shred fest? Then I recommend either their first MV for 'Rising Moon' from 7 years ago when the good Hal-Ca was I think just 15 years old, or the probably quite rightly most frequent recommendation “『DAWN』2019/04/20” on Takako's channel. Yeah, the fact that recordings like this aren't on their own channel probably also contributes to them flying so far under everyone's radar out there.

I mean, they have a version of "Dawn" on their channel. Absolutely awesome, too, but everybody always just wants to see Takakos fan cam 😊
@@UltraHD.7 Of course you're right. :) However, I don't think they've done themselves any favours with the 360° cam. Nice gimmick, and interesting if you want to concentrate on one of the 3 in particular, but for a first impression the fancam is more pleasant to watch and somehow has that certain something. A clean recording like this one here from Church would certainly be recommended more often. But of course that's just my opinion. 😇✌🏻
Congratulations on finding the best new power trio since (in my opinion) Cream. They are from Fukuoka, Japan, and consist of:
Haruka Noma, guitars (“HAL-CA”) (23 November, 2002)
Miyu Yoshinaka, bass (12 March, 2002)
Mio Yoshinaka, drums (13 November, 1999)
They started as an all-instrumental band, and have recently begun adding vocals.
They were formed in 2014 when Noma was 11 and the brothers were 12 and 14 respectively. They were all playing at a talent fair for young musicians in their hometown, when one of the music scouts noticed them, had a hunch and suggested they play together. The result was, to say the least, explosive.
Most of their current youtube catalogue is fan-made live video footage, much of it at the Hard Rock Café in Fukuoka. There are also several clips from their tours of the U.S., including stops in Austin, Los Angeles and New York. From the start, they have written most of their own music, covering a wide range of styles.
The brothers bring a lot of jazz and funk ideas into their playing. Miyu plays 4,5 and 7-string basses, which are co-lead instruments in his hands. They are all phenomenal talents, but the big draw has been Noma, known by her first name Haruka or by her stage name Hal-Ca. She has been likened to a reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, with bits of Joe Satriani, Nuno Bettencourt and Akira Takasaki, among others, thrown in. Even in the Japanese scene, with its overload of extraordinarily technical instrumentalists, she stands out. She also writes most of the band’s music.
Best clips to start with are:
“Rising Moon” (their first professional MV): th-cam.com/video/IfxMi0Bx4x0/w-d-xo.html

Love this band. this is one of their more soul-ful songs. I got to see them in concert and they just mesmerized me. My favorite is Rising Moon the link to the video I will provide the guitarist, Hai-Cal is 16 years old. th-cam.com/video/IfxMi0Bx4x0/w-d-xo.html
Hal-ka fucking rocks! When this band was invited to play in LA, the three of them had a few days vacation before their concert. They were excited to be in the US, try out our food, see Disneyland, Universal, and the rest. One afternoon before their concert, they set up on the sidewalk in Hollywood. They did a set of songs for the people on the street, just because they were so happy to be visiting here. Most people just thought they were street performers. Hahaha
Note: the girl’s name is Hal-Ka. She is born Korean, but raised in Japan. Her name is Korean. Some people in chat are getting her name wrong. It’s Hal-Ka.
You ain't heard nothin yet...try Blaze live.
A solid recommendation.
I was lucky enough to see them in L.A. at the tail end of their first tour of the USA in 2019.
Rick, I am happy that you caught their show. I fear that I will never see them live because I live in Australia and our music market is so small. However, I hope they will come some-day. On the positive side, I saw Hanabie back in November and I get to see Babymetal twice in three days in March; so, to be honest, my cup is pretty full. I will front up for Asterism when they find their way down here, they are such good musicians.
@@lencooke944 Hanabie are definitely on my must see live list.
And yeah, BABYMETAL are amazing live.
I'm surprised that Shonen Knife play Australia so often, but it's been years since they've been in the USA.
HAL-CA was a child prodigy and was 19 when this video was made. I think there are videos here on YT with her as young as 12 performing for crowds, She steals the show from brothers Miyu and Mio. One of my favorite bands ever.
Have you watched HAL-CA on Rock Fujiyama with Marty Friedman (ex. Megadeath)? Speaking of "stealing the show" 😜
Shade mate and Cody mate!
Greetings on a fine crisp shiny day (I will have to change that kind of greetings, lol)!
Great reaction, but I7m stating the obvious!
You pointed out that that particular song did not have so many visits. There is a reason to that, but most people prefer to stay away from this kind of consideration. But being agnostic and truly thinking that anyone is entitled to his/her opinions/beliefs, I will submit this comment in all humility. The title "Church" is voluntary, as they Christians, with Hal Ca often sporting a crop. They hail from Fukuoka Prefecture in the southern island of Kyushu, where the great majority (a minority in Japan) of Japanese Christians have resided since the 17th Century. This particular recording was done when Hal Ca was still only 16~17 years of age. She is 21/22 now. Her two friends (brothers) are only 2~3 years older than her.
IMHO a more suitable piece to react to is "Dawn", another Hal Ca's composition performed at the age of 16 in a club in Fukuoka City. It is a fan cam, but of a higher quality and compare it with live version performed in Paris:
-Fukuoka live version (2019): th-cam.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/w-d-xo.html
-Paris live version, fan cam by Wladimir Chupin, the most famous fan of Band Maid and Asterism (2029): th-cam.com/video/dznF5KISCMs/w-d-xo.html
Bear in mind this is THE song/piece that made them world-wide famous!
I'm sure that you and Cody will appreciate them!
Best regads,
Robert-Gilles Martineau
Sorry, but I doubt the song is called "Church" because they're christians. I've never seen any evidence that they're at all.
Instead this song is part of their Guernica+a instrumental concept album about the bombing and destruction of the small town of that name in the spanish civil war in the 1930s. Picasso has made a famous painting with the same name.
So,I guess, the song reflects a specific occassion in this context.
@@UltraHD.7 Everyone has a different opinion! Cheers!
You and your friend should react to Lovebites "Hammer of Wrath". Your friend will like Fami!!
@@outwest1014 yes! Next time he’s here I’m forcing him to watch a love bites song! I need to listen to some new lovebitea tbh
