If you havent seen the fallen of WW2 then you ought to. Its not just about death and destruction but carries a very powerful message about peace in the modern world; not just what we ought to do but what we have already achived. As to myself I am in what might seem to be a dark place but I am at peace. I can see hope for a world where the evils and ills of the past are done. Agriculture has not been kind to humanity or the planet and we may just be seeing the key to undo at least some of the damage it has done.
Of course it's not necessary to make to make a separate video for the ending credits. Your reaction is perfect as it is. This song is not about the ending credit vocals, but all about the story of the truce as portrayed in the song / video. Don't feel bad about it missing out on the ending credit vocals. If you want to, you can always watch the music video in its entirety in your own time.
So sorry you didn't let the video finish. Floors voice was the finishing touch of a masterpiece. Sabaton began working on this song in 2014 and wanted to get it right. Having Floor sing the outro during the credits is as healing and moving as every part of this song. Hope you had a Merry Christmas.
@@MentalAmanda I am not having a go at you , so please don't take offense but why do you feel the need to put " Suicide Survivor " in the video title? That is Floor, I did not know. But ofcourse it is! Her husband is the drummer? Love it. As much as I love Sabaton, and this song, my critical side can not overhear the clear play on our common love for a sertain composer..
@@michaelhawkins7389 No offense taken. The channel is about mental health. My reactions are from the lens of my mental health experience. By putting it in the title, it lets people know that right away and it has helped thousands of people open up and share their own stories.
Sabaton is an amazing band that never disappoints. The power and the emotion they convey is almost unmatched. ever. I hope you had a great christmas and a great new year!!
This song is what I consider the most powerful Christmas song I've ever heard, not to mention that it is the song I would say is the Metal Song of 2021 -- nothing else comes close. Every time I hear this song, I either come close to shedding tears, or I do cry. Amanda, a couple of things. First, after the Christmas Truce had completed, a German commander ended up moving his unit to another part of the front lines, as his men refused to fire at the men they had made friends with during the Truce. The cross actually exists, being erected near Ypres, Belgium. This song is a strong reminder of what it means to be human -- while reminding us why we should never forget history... "Lest We Forget."
@@theshermantanker7043 as they should have. You can’t have a once in a generation mass event of defying orders of fraternization and kill your new friend. It would be so demoralizing.
Sabaton is a Swedish power metal group that deals with war. As you can see from this video, it is not always about glorious heroism. Again and again, the suffering and humanity in war play a role in their songs. They also make videos that explain the background.
Sabaton sings of war in the context of the heroism, sacrifice, history, and remembrance, without taking a side, and impartially, since their second album, All of there music is worth listening too, they have a youtube channel that tells the story behind each song.
I’ve never heard this group or this song, so thank you for the introduction! When you are in the throes of this kind of violence, any glimpse of peace is priceless. Thank you Amanda! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas
So sabaton is a group that do songs about historical events and this one is about an amazing ww1 event that happened on the first Christmas of the war. It's such a amazing story too, what happened on the western front. Also amazing song from them, also about a real event, is called no bullets fly.
There are many things that make this song awasome : - epic video - band members as soldiers of both armies - Joakim playing piano - using "Carol of the bells" in the song - Pär visiting the Cross over 100 years later - Floor Jansen from Nightwish (the beautiful female voice in outro) - beautiful family co operation (Hannes - the drummer of the band and Floor Jansen are married) - there is also animeted version of the song made by Yarn Hub Did I missed something?
One of the interesting parts of the credits between them and night wish is that they even credit the little guys that help like the drivers and junior assistance's. A lot of bands just gloss over them.
Maybe nobody cares after a year but if you read this, another heartwarming story from Sabaton you have to watch is NO BULLETS FLY (animated story version)
Someone else mentioned this but I have to echo his thoughts. You really need to listen again and let the credits run. Floor's solo gives this a closure that you really need to hear all of. Also, regarding your thoughts about them still seeing each other as fellow humans. An interesting detail is why the truce worked in 1914 but attempts to repeat it in 1915 and 1916 failed. Aside from attempts by generals to make them stop "fraternizing with the enemy", what you need to realize is that in 1914 the war had only been going for about 5 months. Soldiers could still see their opponents as people. In subsequent years the horrors of war had vilified the enemy and the soldiers were less willing to put things aside and accept them.
@@andrewludwig9251 True, but propaganda isn't as powerful as a year of watching friends die at the hands of your enemy. As watch German/British/French soldiers shoot or bayonet your friends it gets harder and harder to put aside the feelings those horrors evoke.
Just wanted to add here, Amanda this is not a knock. I would have missed the credits song too except the first time I heard this was on the Charismatic Voice premiere video.
And of course, some of the front-line units were replaced as military command (probably rightly) feared that they, having personally met their enemies, would be less than enthusiastic about firing on them again.
The greatest tragedy is that the war didn't end there and then but the butchery continued for another 4 murderous years and 109 years later, we STILL haven't learned anything.
Considering your interest in mental health, there is a special song from Sabaton that I hope you listen to. The song is called "To Hell and Back", and is based on the life of one of the most decorated soldiers of WW2. After the war, PTSD (then called shell shock) nearly destroyed him. The medication used at the time was normally very addictive and not very effective. Trigger warning, it does talk about his own near suicide, and the official video shows him nearly doing it. He later in life managed to gain control over the PTSD, and rented a hotel room for 2 weeks where he stayed after flushing all his medication, and used that time to flush his body of the drugs although by his own admission if he had any weapons with him at the time he would not have survived.
This is a great anthem of humanity, but it's definitely must to watch to the bitter end. For two reasons. Firstly: Members of Sabaton (and Nightwish) are true humble gentlemen, who want to credit everybody who were involved to their outcome. And secondly: Never in the music video history is the outro of a song as influential as this, because there is the Floor Jansen doing it.
This song came out October 29th and I sent it to my mom We decided it would be the family song for Christmas She passed away on Halloween 2 days after the songs release Only Christmas song I could listen to this year
You are beautiful inside and out, there is something so attractive about someone with intelligence who understands the concept being shown. Keep being you.
@@MentalAmanda its ok. Just advising, When you are in metal , symphonic metal and so on, better to just let play out. You never know what gems you might find.😃😉🤗
I don't think you realised that it was Floor Jansen who sang the outro at the end credits. She is of course the wife of Hannes!! ( de drummer van Sabaton ).
This Song is such a Masterpiece I love it, Sabaton is my favorite Band and this is just one of the best music videos I‘ve ever seen and Joakims Voice is so fascinating, it‘s so deep and rough and there‘s so much power and emotion behind it, it‘s incredible
First, I love that you did this video, it's an incredible video by an incredible band. Second, these kinds of videos barely scratch the surface of what these soldiers in combat face, I come to this conclusion based on videos I have seen about being homeless and relate them to my actual experience of being homeless. Third, this video didn't reignite my faith in humanity, I am lucky in that my faith in humanity will NEVER waver no matter what bad we do. I see the worst we do as a species as the opposite of the best, so the worse we do shows we can reach those same levels of the best as well.
I was afraid that Nightwish's Floor Jansen would become a widow. The guy the grenade almost kills is her husband ;-) And you missed her by skipping the credits. She is the female voice.
@@MentalAmanda She is also part of the background choir for "the last stand" and "the great war". But you have to listen carefully. That is why she is also called the unofficial member of Sabaton. As a guest singer, she has not yet appeared. Her husband is the drummer for Sabaton.
Loved your reaction, So great to to have you still with us and would love to see more reactions about sabaton, this is just one of many amazing songs by them.
On the Christmas Truce itself, there were a few other things the video wasn't able to show. It started with an impromptu singing competition the night before, when the British heard the Austrians singing "Stille Nacht" after spotting lit christmas trees on the Austrian trenches. To bolster morale in their trench, the British sung back another Christmas song. Before long, both trenches were singing along the same songs, which helped break the divide the following morning. Both sides exchanged gifts with each other, cigarettes, food from home (chocolate from the Austrians, pasties from the British) and trinkets. One man even set up a barber's chair in No Man's Land and cut hair for men on both sides. I high recommend watching Extra History's episode about it.
Im so glad you got a shot at listening to Sabaton, especially this song (I got SUPER emotional my first many listen, still tear up a bit). They are a truly special band! Their musical talents, how they treat their fans, and their absolute respect for history. Ive had the fortune of seeing them live 4 times! The last time I took my kids, and Sabaton pulled them both on stage, treated them like royalty. They do this at almost every show they can. They are truly special folks.
The Christmas Truce was a unique event that was never repeated again. At 8:26 you hear the cannon fire resume and this was a result of the generals on both sides worried that the truce would be used by the opposing side to take the front (there were multiple truces happening) and so they ordered the artillery to resume firing to break the truces up. In 1915 and '16 they two sides attempted to do the truce again and both times the generals thwarted the efforts.
Sainsburys a British supermarket chain, did a Christmas television advert which was about the Christmas truce also. Its a powerful watch, as was done for 100 anniversary of the truce.
This song is a tear-jerker as it is with it's music video...reminds you of all goodness that rests within our hearts...I am, per se, crying every time I hear this song
I always remember Christmas Eve 02 when I was a conscript in Somalia protecting merchant ships on a minesweeper and I had a deck watch from 20:00 to 00:00 and we all felt that death was in the same jar with us and because there were strong doubts about a possible battle we were ordered to be constantly ready and then at 22:00 it broke and I can say that it's a pretty hellish lullaby for an 18-year-old when bullets whistling by the ear and in that noise 1 was wounded and death caught 2 young people and somehow every Christmas I remember that night strongly
The sad thing is about Christmas Day 1914, not every section of the western front had a truce. Some sections continued fighting, others used the day to bury the dead that was left in no mans land from the fighting. The leaders of the units that had the truce moved the men around so that the following year this would never happen, they even went as far as issue a standing order that anyone attempting such an act of "treason" would be shot in front of a firing squad. Though I would highly recommend the Sabaton History Channel if you want to know the stories behind any of the Sabaton songs including the full story of the Christmas Truce 1914.
Thanx for doing this one! Sabaton is a Swedish band that writes and sings about Actual historic events, battles, moments of heroism and wars. They will be releasing their 10th studio album on March 4th 2022. Nice thing about them is that their video's never blocked so it's TH-cam safe. (except for some Wacken video's that gets blocked by Wacken) If you really want to go down the Sabaton rabbit-hole, I would recommend these: (These are all from the Sabaton Channel, and they never block videos so it's safe to use) [live at Woodstock 2012]: Ghost Division, 40:1 and Uprising [Great Tour Live Videos]: En Livstied I Krig (make sure to turn subtitles on), Red Baron, Swedish Pagans, Primo Victoria, Fields of Verdun, Devil Dogs & Angels Calling [Lyric videos]: Attack of the dead men, The Final Solution, In Flanders Fields, 82nd All the way, Sparta, Shiroyama, Cliffs Of Gallipolli and The lost betallion [Music Video's]: Bismarck, Steel Commanders, Defence of Moscow, Livgardet (make sure to turn subtitles on), Fields of Verdun, Rourke's Drift, Screaming Eagles, Uprising The Future Of Warfare (Building Blocks Video) & Seven Pillars of wisdom [Animated History Video's]: Night Witches and No Bullets Fly (not animated music video's, the animated history/story video's) [Covers]: Kingdom Come [Offical video] and I'm sure people told you but in case, Sabaton have another channel (Sabaton History Channel) where they do a deep dive into the history behind the songs with Indy Nidell.
The thing you have to remember about the Christmas truce is there were fronts that didn't understand why some people were not fighting. Since the British empire at the time expanded to many different countries, some were brought in to fight the war. They were just happy to have a day of peace and quiet as well as exchange gifts with their enemies. Also Hitler was an officer during WW1 and when the Truce happened he forbad his soldiers from contacting the enemy.
Survivor's Guilt is probably the worst thing I've ever had to deal with... Moral Injury is also super bad. You add in PTSD, and life pretty much sucks.
@@MentalAmanda I have. I've gonna thru therapy and EMDR. It helped me immensly. You actually featured me on one of your weekly win segments. My point was about pre treatment.
Another great review. Just stumbled across the channel tonight, and love the reviews I've watched. Another good Sabaton song with a strong mental health connection is "To Hell and Back" about Audie Murphy. Some incredibly powerful imagery, but be sure to watch the official video, the intro and outro text is important.
A like before i even seen the video. Will be emotional. It's a Swedich band that makes songs about history mostly ww1 and ww2 related and offcorse Swedich related things tought out history. Anyway you missed the outro by Floor Jansen
@@MentalAmanda i did see it. I wrote on ther too but this comment was around 4min after you posted this video but take a look on that comment i think you will be happy
This was such a good point in history where humanity truly showed itself during such a horrible time. Even during time of killing/etc on one single day both sides showed true humanity even if it was only a short time. Both sides venturing into no mans land, exchanging food, gifts(souvenirs), even prisoners during that time, and allowing of the taking care of comrades who died in no mans land. Sadly it was nearly only word of mouth from soldiers back then as press on both sides basically tried to hide that this happened. And even when they were forced to release things, higher ups still didn't with full truth and not saying what truly went along during the truce that took place over like x-mas eve and day back in WWI in that battle field back then. Sabaton's music teaches so much history with their music. Joakim and the band are just awesome.
This video gets me every time I watch it (which has been many, many times till now). This truce was probably the most honest and sincere Christmas: A short moment of humanity in an inhuman surrounding. But then, when the fighting continues the next day, it shows the cruelty and madness of mankind in the most obvious way. It's sch a sad moment. And if I am not at least close to tearing up, Floor will give me the rest with her incredible voice at the end (as you experienced afterwards)
War always shows the horrible and ugly face of mankind. Let's never forget the good traits of humanity: Love & Compassion 🫂Offering hugs from overseas, Bavaria/Germany. I wish you and your family strenght and positivity for the new year!
The hardest thing any combat soldier has to hold onto is their humanity, here the courage it took for these men who shared the hopelessness in the frozen mud and snow covered trenches longing to be home for the Holidays is truly remarkable. This was a soldier's truce one the Generals made sure never happened again, and punished many that took part in this. Sadly, few of those who did celebrate this great moment ever lived to see the end of the war some 4 years later. A song of Remembrance as well, for all those lost in any war and to those left with their memories to cherish at Holiday times. May we never forget them but more importantly may we remember their courage and try and be better each day that we were granted that was taken from them, it is the least we the living can do. You missed Floor, the Valkyrie Goddess, claiming the dead on the battlefield and returning them to rest with her Aria during the end credits. Something anyone who has lost a person to war will surely find moving.
jumping down the sabaton rabbit hole i see... No Bullets Fly animated story video is a highly highly highly recommended video: th-cam.com/video/dslO-3GgenY/w-d-xo.html Night Witches also another highly recommended video: th-cam.com/video/FEWnnUga5tA/w-d-xo.html These 2 are literally just scratching the surface to what Sabaton has. Can confirm I have learned more about WW1 and WW2 from listening to Sabaton then I have in 4 years of high school.
it's a true story, Belgian, French, English and German soldiers stopped the fight and shook hands on Christmas Day. I hope all those soldiers who died in this butchery rest in peace. These are moments that prove that humanity is not completely dead. Ideally humanity should learn from their mistakes. I Don't know if we can find it in your country but there is a nice French movie that tells this story. It's called "Merry Christmas"
People keep f orgetting that the French soldiers were there also. Pär Sundström has said: "Christmas Truce was our highest priority when we decided to write songs about World War One. Not only was it the most requested topic from our fans, but it was, for us, the most emotional story from the war. This song took us years to create since we wanted the music to reflect the mood honestly and it was a big challenge, but we feel we managed to write a song that captures the spirit of this day, over a century ago." OMG! You just went right by the woman singing at the end. Her name is Floor Jansen, wife of their drummer,Hannes Dahl. He's the one who gets nearly hit by the grenade, with long blonde hair.
The Christmas Truce of 1914 is one of those stories that restores faith in Humanity. In a promo for the French film Joyeaux Noel about the Christmas Truce, they put in, "The world made them enemies, but one night made them brothers."
If learning about the truce in more detail interests you may I recommend Extra History here on youtube who dedicated 2 episodes to this. One on the truce itself and one reading a letter written by one of the soldiers. Peter Capaldi, who was playing Doctor Who at the time and just visited the event on the show also read a letter from a soldier at an event.
Thanks for a great reaction. Sabaton's from Sweden and so am I and, like many others, we are very proud of them and they knocked it out of the park with this song but then again they've spent many years writing it because they wanted to do the event justice. If this is your first encounter with them then you have a great journey ahead of you, some recommendations are: "En livstid i krig" - Gothenburg live concert, it's in Swedish but there are captions and this is the best version of this song, "No Bullets Fly" - animated story, "Devil Dogs", "82:nd all the way" and "Defence of Moscow" are a few. Sabaton also has their own History Channel where they give you the real history behind the war events of their songs, name another band that has that 😉 But since it's Christmas I couldn't find that you'd reacted to the accapella group Pentatonix so I have two suggestions for you: "Hallelujah" - their cover of the Leonard Cohen song and "The Prayer" - their cover of the Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion song. Both are great but you ought to start with Hallelujah and do The Prayer after.... then they also have a 90's dance mix which is amazing. Looking forward to seeing more of you. Take care
My grandfather fought in WW2 in the South Pacific. He flew scouting and recon missions. When he passed about 15 years ago, he was still given a military services and burial. The sound of the guns fired as the flag was on his coffin still lingers with me today.
I've been watching reactions to this song all over TH-cam and I wat to thank you for this pure, honest reaction. I wish to extend my hand to you in friendship and you are welcome to talk to me whenever you feel the need
Though such times may be rare, there are times when humanity's inate kindness and compassion shine bright. Bright enough to where, even if for only one day, one miserable day, it can even break through the Fog of War. Christmas Day, 1914 was one of those times
When the Rodney and King George V sunk the Bismarck in WW2, the sailors on the two British ships just wept in silence. Even in war, they knew how tragic the deaths of all the sailors on the Bismarck was.
Sabaton is along with Nightwish one of my most cherish bands. Saboton is not political but sings mostly of sacrifices/ heroics of the common soldier/citizens throughout history. Please go back and listen to the aura of Floor Jansen who sings over the credits it represents to me sadness, joy , hope and beauty in mankind. Sadly if true Floor’s aura is not on the studio version & In my humble opinion the first time Sabaton has made a mistake in their storytelling. My suggestion is to do Sabaton’s music video ,” To Hell & Back”. It’s the story of Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier of WW2. Audie Murphy was truly a hero and To Hell & Back was a movie about his heroics in WW2. But Sabaton did the truly remarkable and little known story about Audie Murphy’s willing himself off of his morphine addiction. The treatment for physical & mental ( shell shock-PSD today) was to treat with Morphine. As he was making movies and touring the country as a hero celebrity raising money for War Bonds and raising Patriotism he was literally being torn apart mentally with morphine addiction. He finally decided to secretly lock himself in a hotel room ( under a alias of course) and for over a week he willed himself to overcome his addiction. He had wrote a note explaining if he was found dead in his room it was not by his hand that he fought to the very end to live but the morphine killed him. He went on lived a long time was successful in business movies and life in general. That’s the story that Sabaton chose to tell. Sabaton’s Mantra is, Lest We Forget. They also have a history channel explaining the story behind their songs. May you have a very happy holiday season and a blessed New Year! From a very old Metal /Rock head!🙏🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
There was no official truce during christmas, this scene took place in only one small part of the frontline, the others continued to fight each other but this small part of the battlefront they decided to have an unofficial peace truce during Christmas and they greeted one another and showed each other mutual respect.
There was one in 1915 but it was ended b6 senior officers, Celtic Thunder does a song about it called Christmas 1915. I am third generation and do have PTSD from too many dead friends and acquaintances in the military
I really recommend checking out the film "Joyeux Noël" for this. It tells a dramatized version of this event through the eyes of Scottish, French and German soldiers.
The worst thing about the Christmas truce is that the commanders saw that and the following year made sure that there were all assaults on the front and punished anyone that didn't want to follow orders to make sure another truce didn't happen.
You should check out their song called "Hell and Back." It's about Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier of WWII. He was awarded every medal that the United States Armed Forces could bestow upon him including the distinguished service cross, Congressional Medal of Honor and 3 Purple Hearts, as well as medals awarded to him by the French and Belgians. When he came home he suffered from crippling PTSD as well as drug addiction. He wound up locking himself in a motel room for a week to rid himself of his addictions. The man literally went to hell and Back. Twice. And lived to tell about it. He even played himself in the movie adaptation of his book titled To Hell and Back.
They say that those involved in the truce were reassigned elsewhere because they couldn't bear to fight each other after this, despite the war continuing
During December,24th,1914,the truce happened when a German soldier climbed out of their trench and came out with his hands up showing he was unarmed. This after the Germans had put up little candlelit trees along the trench wall. They had lso begun to sing Christmas carols. The other sides, the Belgian, and the British soldiers heard them and came out to join the German soldiers who had also c ome out of their trench. They exchanged small items,as gifts, sang, shared food, and then came the most iconic soccer game ever recorded in history. (which the Germans won) After two days their higher ranked officers arrived with dissapproval. It was all stopped and some soldiers ran because they no longer could take all the killing for nearly 14 years. Some others were transfered out,and others were shot right there for refusing to fight any longer. No one wanted to kill those they had met.
Amanda Webster Sabaton is a band who sing of different historical events or people; the song is based on the true story of the spontaneous Christmas truce of 1914, yes it’s during the first year of World War One, at that time called The Great War, where in different locations across the trenches, the German, English, Scottish and French soldiers lay down their weapons and came together in peace and harmony in honour of Christmas. Sadly, did not last nor was repeated, till after 1918.
That cross they showed at the end is based on an actual cross placed at one of the battlefields in Belgium, and the inscription on it is very close to the one in the video.
i'm a 62 y/o youtube fan and i love this video. my dads father fought in ww1 in gallipoli and he was shot in the arm. he died of injuries from his wound in 1926 when my dad was 4 years old
There is a documentary that came out a week or two ago, about this. I can't remember the channel, but you can look up The Christmas Truce, and it will be with several different videos. This on is a little over an hour long. There's also a 10 part series on WW1 on a channel called Timeline. Go to the created playlists and scroll through. The thumbnail image is of Franz Ferdinand. His uniform is a shade of blue, with medals and a red and gold sash. Hopefully that's enough info, if you choose to check it out. I have watched it several times. This song hits the feels hard.
Thank you for your open, raw reaction. I believe this is Joakim's finest vocal performance to date. You missed the outro, sung by none other than Floor Jansen, so you might want to go back and listen to that part. You're right : December 1914 is the only time this happened. The following year, an order was passed to the British troops that anyone fraternising with the enemy was to be arrested and court-martialled, with the firing squad being a likely outcome if the soldier was found guilty. I don't know, but I imagine that similar instructions were given to the French and German soldiers too.
Oh this was so nice, oh I know the song, I'm quite a long time listener to Sabaton but your reaction and the message afterwards hit a note because what's left of my family usually ends up in sequential minor interdependent fights along "the Season" when we each see the others after a while and instead of feeling happy (I personally detest the notion of baseless "thankfulness") about getting to see one another we do the exact opposite of the Central power and Entente troops in this episode and re-light our decades old conflicts and misgivings, buried resentments and entrenched opinions - only this year, year 2 of the virus (2 oV ;) ), we had the same, but much milder, much friendlier, less filled with old resentments and newly ignited hate. And it works. It is exceedingly nice to see this option and to see it work. Maybe it was just a Christmas truce, but it was nice. Maybe the Fourth Horseman has a good side after all... (not religious but isn't it a nice metaphor?) (also as a former history teacher I tend to think in terms of historical analogy anyway, so yeah? ;) ) Best regards Raoul G. Kunz
check out "en livstid i krig" live from Göteborg,it is in Swedish but there are subtitles, the song deals with a soldier in the 30 years war and his feelings and thoughts (you can almost feel the PTSD and anxiety), wery powerful, how about some short snippets of the text, "becuse war, it can destroy a man " or another line "a husband, a friend, father and son that will never come home again" hope you feel well and hoping to hear some more reactions on Sabaton
The one thing I think most sabaton fans forget, they don't hold back on what happened. Their music covers stories from wars, they don't glorify it but rather make sure the stories are told. I would give fair warning about the To Hell and Back video, they pulled no punches from it.
The Cross at the End, actually exist and is in Ypress in Belgium (made in 1999, 75 years after the WW1 started). Also the blowing up the Piano and leaving the Cross back, is such a strong Image.
Sorry you didn't play the outro, it gives a perfect closure to the song. If you ever do another Sabaton song, remember: from the beginning till the very end. Many times at the end or beginning there is explanation about the song (No bullet fly for example)
I learned my lesson! Watch credits from now on! Posted the rest of the reaction. Sorry for not knowing!

For those that did have no choice but to fire, they all aimed at the ground to deliberately waste ammunition and pretend to fight the enemy
Thank you for being here and sharing yourself with us!
So sabaton is a group that do songs about historical events and this one is about an amazing ww1 event that happened on the first Christmas of the war. It's such a amazing story too, what happened on the western front.
Also amazing song from them, also about a real event, is called no bullets fly.
You missed a great solo by Floor Jansen (sp) during the credits at the end. She’s married to the drummer from Sabaton
I finished it in a separate video upon having it pointed out!
There are many things that make this song awasome :
- epic video
- band members as soldiers of both armies
- Joakim playing piano
- using "Carol of the bells" in the song
- Pär visiting the Cross over 100 years later
- Floor Jansen from Nightwish (the beautiful female voice in outro)
- beautiful family co operation (Hannes - the drummer of the band and Floor Jansen are married)
- there is also animeted version of the song made by Yarn Hub
Did I missed something?
❤️❤️❤️
You did: the bond and love that humans can share even our darkest hour
Maybe that the real cross is still erected at a plain in Belgium.
Yarn Hub also made an animated video for Night Witches. The Official Sabaton Animated Music Video uses the clip from the YH video.
You forgot one thing: Joakim's knee wasn't abused in this video
Sabaton's "To Hell and Back" would be very fitting for your channel.
One of the interesting parts of the credits between them and night wish is that they even credit the little guys that help like the drivers and junior assistance's. A lot of bands just gloss over them.
I posted my reaction to it in a follow up video. I appreciate everyone who pointed this out and I have a whole new perspective now!
Propaganda was powerful during those years, in order to kill your enemy, you have to first dehumanize them.
Thank you for the insights! I posted a follow up where I finished thanks to you all!
Those credits deserve to be seen. Lest we forget. (Never Forget) 💪
I posted my reaction to it in a follow up video. I didn't know!
@@MentalAmanda Not everyone does but it's a masterpiece in disguise.
No check in on No bullets fly ;)
This song came out October 29th and I sent it to my mom
We decided it would be the family song for Christmas
She passed away on Halloween 2 days after the songs release
Only Christmas song I could listen to this year
You are beautiful inside and out, there is something so attractive about someone with intelligence who understands the concept being shown. Keep being you.
Oo... you skipped Floor Jansens end singing.... thats not good🤔😉
I posted it in a follow up video. I didn't know!
It's turning into a running joke...
Joakim: "We need a power soprano to close out this song."
Hannes (on phone): "Honey, do you have a few minutes?
I absolutely zoned out once the credits started rolling. Conditioning! I posted it as a follow up video!
AND TODAY WE ARE BROTHERS - TONIGHT WE ARE FRIENDS
ONE MOMENT OF PEACE - IN A WAR THAT NEVER ENDS
Very nice reaction Amanda, happy holidays. And to the incoming Sabaton army, take it easy on the little lady, she didn't know about Floors outro...
I posted my reaction to it in a follow up video. I hope they will forgive me!
True
I was afraid that Nightwish's Floor Jansen would become a widow. The guy the grenade almost kills is her husband ;-) And you missed her by skipping the credits. She is the female voice.
I finished it in a separate video upon having it pointed out! I didn’t know that is her husband though. Crazy !
@@MentalAmanda His name is Hannes. He is Swedish. Hannes, Floor & Freyja(sp?) live there now.
Hi Amanda. I certainly shed a tear on this one. Love this song and I love Sabaton. Amazing band.....
Thank you for your wonderful reaction!

Christmas Truce: Happens
Acoustic Guitar: Happy Electric Guitar Sounds
The thing you have to remember about the Christmas truce is there were fronts that didn't understand why some people were not fighting. Since the British empire at the time expanded to many different countries, some were brought in to fight the war. They were just happy to have a day of peace and quiet as well as exchange gifts with their enemies. Also Hitler was an officer during WW1 and when the Truce happened he forbad his soldiers from contacting the enemy.
Survivor's Guilt is probably the worst thing I've ever had to deal with... Moral Injury is also super bad.
You add in PTSD, and life pretty much sucks.
Have you talked to anyone who specializes in trauma? It's a scary beast and almost impossible to battle alone.

The troops actually refused to fight eachother after that day. They had to be relocated to fight
Thank you Sabaton for reminding us what Christmas is about.
Let's never forget the good traits of humanity: Love & Compassion
🫂Offering hugs from overseas, Bavaria/Germany.

These 2 are literally just scratching the surface to what Sabaton has.
The hardest thing to keep alive in combat is your humanity.
Old mens biggest fear,
Young men not fighting their wars
"So many brave men fell, in the battles that were racing down below"
Soldier of Heaven, Sabaton
This is the third “Reacting to Christmas Truce” video I have watched today, and every time I start tearing up
People keep f orgetting that the French soldiers were there also.
Pär Sundström has said:
"Christmas Truce was our highest priority when we decided to write songs about World War One. Not only was it the most requested topic from our fans, but it was, for us, the most emotional story from the war. This song took us years to create since we wanted the music to reflect the mood honestly and it was a big challenge, but we feel we managed to write a song that captures the spirit of this day, over a century ago."
OMG!
Hi Amanda my ledge is still 2 inches so im in gpod shape. Thx for staying in touch tho....i appreciate that very much😊
I watched your Floor ending before I watched this. My bad. 😋

Love what you do here, good reaction to a really intense song, I spammed this when it came out
youer reaction is one of the smartest and best i have seen
If learning about the truce in more detail interests you may I recommend Extra History here on youtube who dedicated 2 episodes to this. One on the truce itself and one reading a letter written by one of the soldiers. Peter Capaldi, who was playing Doctor Who at the time and just visited the event on the show also read a letter from a soldier at an event.
The female singer as the end credit rolls, is Floor, who is married to Sabaton's drummer, Thomas ( the first soldier to emerge from the trenches).
Sabaton also has their own History Channel where they give you the real history behind the war events of their songs, name another band that has that 😉
But since it's Christmas I couldn't find that you'd reacted to the accapella group Pentatonix so I have two suggestions for you: "Hallelujah" - their cover of the Leonard Cohen song and "The Prayer" - their cover of the Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion song. Both are great but you ought to start with Hallelujah and do The Prayer after.... then they also have a 90's dance mix which is amazing. Looking forward to seeing more of you.
Take care
The last British survivor from the Christmas Truce died in Scotland in 2006 he was from the Black Watch Regt ..
You might want to have a look at another one of their songs that’s based on something that happened around Christmas. It’s called no bullets fly.
If you want to talk: I'm here and listening.
as you said , "peace for every day" , there is nothing more to add or say stay safe
the true tragedy of that war and so many others..... they didn't hate each other, maybe even the opposite, but they still had to fight.
This very well may be my favorite Christmas song for the rest of my life.
We are definitely kindered spirits! You made me cry GDIt! Lol! I’m a Marine. I love Sabaton and FFDP. You rock!
HUMANATY comes before ALL RELEGEONS
Sabaton has the most epic music videos out there, they tell a story on each song its amazing!
That is beautiful.
You might like the song To Hell and Back, it tells the story about a young man, Audie Murphy, and the struggles he faced both in war and at home
Man this song makes me cry every time. Every time I hear "Voices sang to me from No Man's Land" I lose it. This song made a grown ass man cry.
It was at the piano blowing up that was the final straw for me. Mother wondered why I was crying.
I swear, Pär looks like he belongs there lol
I finished it in a separate video upon having it pointed out!
(not religious but isn't it a nice metaphor?)
(also as a former history teacher I tend to think in terms of historical analogy anyway, so yeah? ;) )
Best regards

It's not just CREDITS it's Floor from Nightwish. Her husband was the first soldier in the video (and the drummer)
I posted a follow up! I didn't know!
check out "en livstid i krig" live from Göteborg,it is in Swedish but there are subtitles, the song deals with a soldier in the 30 years war and his feelings and thoughts (you can almost feel the PTSD and anxiety), wery powerful, how about some short snippets of the text, "becuse war, it can destroy a man " or another line "a husband, a friend, father and son that will never come home again"
hope you feel well and hoping to hear some more reactions on Sabaton
they have another single of new cd coming out on jan 7 called solider of heaven , comes out jan 7 2022. also cd comes out march 2022
I finished it in a separate video upon having it pointed out!
