Went to my 1st Zep concert at 13 and I grew up that day.
Synchronicity brought those four gifted men together and they were/are geniuses.
Gods actually. Im 65 now and still listening to them daily, in the car mostly.
My all time favorite song is Since I've Been Loving You, Live version 1973 at Madison Square Garden. Epic.
You need to see this Live to get the full experience.
    It's a beautiful thing!❤😂🎉

While lotta love and Since I've been loving you Live MSG 1974, Black Dog is an incredible song tool
The strings you heard Jimmy used a bow across the guitar. These songs are definitely an experience in concert.
Your next band you'll absolutely love will be Pink Floyd. I hope you'll consider these recommendations. First time on this channel! I like you already. Wishing you great success with these reactions. Old guys like me enjoy watching the expressions and the joy you find as you discover greatness in rock and heavy metal giants! As a 50yr old, who didn't really grow up listening to them until high school, I consider Jimmy Page as the king of rock n roll blues guitar 🤷

    • @Ledzepnut
      @Ledzepnut 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@hognautI see your point, however applying that term to an individual goes beyond their playing ability, at least with Jimmy Page, his style, his imagination, his composing, and his overall abilities of playing various types of guitars puts him in a place where others could only dream of being. He may not be the fastest, or may not be a virtuoso, but his overall capabilities is what sets him above so many others. I do agree with you though, to say he's better than some other well known guitarist who is also great with their abilities is the same as picking out your best Led Zeppelin song or even their best album, it's virtually impossible

    • @hognaut
      @hognaut 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@Ledzepnut mmm, it's not difficult (for me) picking out yer favourite Zep album out of a choice of just 8, picking yer favourite Zep track out of 94 that's a bit trickier. Saying who's the best guitarist out 1000s..not a chance. Page is certainly one of my favourites aswel...but not live. Depends what you're looking for in a guitarist, Gilmour live takes some beating for me, and a lesson known Tony McPhee is up there 👌

Jimmy Page, the lead guitarist, also happens to be an electronics engineer. He built new equipment for distortions and effects between his guitar and amp. The down slide in the chorus is played by sliding down the fretboard. He was also known to use a cello bow on the electric guitar.
    Genius.

So, after the lyric “whole lotta love” it is indeed a slide on the fretboard of the guitar. The other part with cymbals and congas (not bongos) with all the strange distorted sounds going left and right in your headphones, was also originally created on guitar, but the engineer was manipulating the tape in the studio to create those noises. After that, we hear Robert’s voice singing the lyrics in a ghostly way in the background, and then repeating them in a stronger way… this was entirely unintentional, and was the result of a phenomenon called “tape bleed” where occasionally, recorded information bleeds into the next layer of tape as it rolls over itself. This caused a lot of panic, as they were so pleased with the take and felt that they would never be able to replicate it, so the decision was made to leave it in. I think it sounds cool. Call it a “happy accident”.

two points.... neither bongos nor congas, that particular percussive element was Bonham playing the drum kit with his bare hands.... and the electronic sound in the middle section was created on a theremin....

Your reaction to the lyrics might be funny. 🙂
The thing to remember about Led Zeppelin is, they experimented with all sorts of sub-genres of rock, but were (at heart) a blues band.
This song is solidly rooted in blues, but extends *very far* into psychedelic rock. 😊
For another potentially recognizable tune, try "The Immigrant Song."
Also, to showcase the band's range, try, "When the Levy Breaks", "The Battle of Evermore", "The Rain Song" and "Two Sticks."

You nailed it! I’ve always thought Plant was a male Janis Joplin. Similar in power and Bluesiness! He reminds me of her frequently. He’s the most powerful male Rock singer of all time and she was the most powerful female Rock singer! It makes sense!
This song is a Heavy metal version of a Blues song. It’s actually You Need Love by Willie Dixon with more powerful drums, guitar and vocals. But the verse is borrowed completely.
I’m glad you liked it! One of their best!
Led Zep have a lot of great songs so you’re just beginning your journey with them. Stairway is another one! Good review!
    Thanks! 😮😊

Nice reaction... In this song, Jimmy Page is using a violin bow to play his guitar... very cool effects. Naturally, "Since I've Been Loving You" has them performing a Blues/Rock song like the way it's supposed to be... awesome! Then, for something different from them, check out "Fool In The Rain"... their last song before drummer John Bonham passed away. They never performed this live. There is a very fun Latin/Samba instrumental bit in the song. Well worth the listen.
If you are into orchestral rock settings, then these 2 songs come to mind:
    1. Fool's Overture... by Roger Hodgson of Supertramp
    2. A Whiter Shade Of Pale... by the group Procol Harum
    Enjoy!

Considering that this song is from their early days, it’s really going to be a treat if you dive deeply into their catalog… There is so much good music from this group, and like a lot of other people have mentioned, you have only just scratched the surface. It will be a real treat to see your reaction to one of their more complicated pieces, where there bassist and keyboardist, John Paul Jones, brings his immense talent to the table! Every member of the group was super talented in their own, right, and the deeper you dive into their Catalogue, the more it becomes obvious…

Given your classical background, I'd love to hear you react to some early YES, another London band formed in 1968, like Led Zepplin. YES headed out in a different direction from Zep's electrified blues style incorporating more classical influences. In fact, back in 1971 when YES started to really blow up, I'd refer to their sound as "classical rock" as you'd often hear the influence but is better described as Progressive or Prog Rock. Usually quite dense with musicianship, always featuring these great vocal harmonies, grounded in the dominant bass line of their virtuoso bassist, Chris Squire. His Industrial-Melodic bass line inspirations are always heard prominently in the mix. Their masterpieces were very experimental, but always imbued with a lot of melody, but with more complexity than other bands would dare to attempt. I recommend *Yours Is No Disgrace* as an introduction. With YES music, always listen to the *studio version* first as they did a lot of excellent studio effects like you heard on Whole Lot Of Love (e.g., the panning effects). Your classical ears will rejoice!

I would like to suggest two extremely popular mid sixties songs, with combined orchestration, and the band's live. One was performed in Denmark in a really nice outdoor setting. The band is Procol Harum, and the song is a classic from those days, "A Whiter Shade of Pale" This was done in 2006..The other is The Moody Blues, "Night's In White Satin" At the Royal Albert Hall, May of 2000.These two bands were an important part of what came to be known as the English Invasion, after the Beatles came over. England flooded the US with a seemingly endless parade of new bands. I'm pretty sure you'd enjoy both..Orchestrations for both are beautiful!

In case no other commenter mentioned it that race car sound is made by sliding the guitar pick along the strings likely in conjunction with an effects pedal. "Ramble On", "What is and What Should Never Be", "Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid", "Gallows Pole". "Nobody's Fault But Mine", "Hey Hey What can I do", 10 Years Gone", "When The Levee Breaks" and many other great Led Zeppelin songs are in the rabbit hole. Have fun. Also it's a Led Zeppelin trademark style to have slower, calmer sections combined with faster high energy parts in any given song. Also Jimmy and John Paul Jones were British studio musicians in their teens and played on many top singles from various artists in the U.K. in the 1960's. Jimmy played in a band called The Yardbirds j(who also had Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck at different times) ust before starting Led Zeppelinlin . Many worthy songs there too.If you like this genre, another British Psych Rock Band called "Cream" featuring Eric Clapton on Guitar, Jack Bruce on Bass, and Ginger Baker on drums are worth reacting to. Some of their best songs include "White Room, "Sunshine of Your Love", "Badge", and "Tales of Brave Ulysses".

Best sounding band ever, and every song is different. Best Hard Rock band and there is no debate for me. They set a standard for all who followed, they are the true Gods of Classic Rock. Try the studio original for Dazed and Confused from the amazing debut album. It is another experimental track, reinventing old blues classics. You should start with the first album and just complete their catalog in time, 9 albums, 10 CDs worth of Rock Glory, surpassed by no one. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶🔥

Led Zep's version of _Whole Lotta Love_ was an adaptation of Willie Dixon's song _You Need Love_ which was recorded by Muddy Waters in 1962. Willie Dixon also wrote a song called Back Door Man which was recorded by Howling Wolf in 1960. Back in the 1920s and 1930s a "back door man" referred to a man who was having an affair with a married woman, and he would enter and leave her house through the back door to avoid being seen. That's a little different from what people first think of now when they hear the term "back door man" in an older song.

Back in the day when this was written, bands had to get creative to get around the censors on the radio. The result was some of the most imaginative lyrics ever written. Whole Lotta Love is a perfect example of that as soon as you put it in a more, ahem, sexual context. And you need to listen to Stairway to Heaven. Considered one of the greatest rock songs ever written.

We have a blending of genres in this, and many other Zepp tunes, inc the blues, and "classic" & "psychedelic" rock... Other very popular Zepp songs are heavier on some or one, with the frequent additions of "folk" & "jazz" rock.

If you want to check out a live version of Kashmir look no further than Celebration Day when the three surviving members got back together for a one off concert in 2007 (I think). They got the late great John Bonham’s son Jason to play drums.

"Since I've been Loving you" Live from Madison Square Garden. 1973. You will thank me later. It's Zeppelin at their peak. Doing a song that was not at all a hit for them until the youtubers discovered it about 10 years ago. Pure blues and Plant and Page are just spellbinding in it. Zeppelin was known for ad libbing their songs live so they rarely played many of their songs the same form night to night. In this song, you can practically tell when Page or Plant is ad libbing something on the fly. Heres the thing about Zeppelin live. They were much more concerned with the feel of the song than perfectly playing it. Thats why so many of their live performances are epic.
I would recommend for Kashmir. doing the reunion show version from around 2007? They are old men in it but I feel it's the best version because to me, the sound quality is not that good in the other two live versions.
When you said climatic, you have no idea. LOL. When he is saying way way down inside he wants to give you his love. He actually means way down inside in a bragging about his antonymy sort of way. Jimmy Page is using a bow on the guitar strings to make some of those noises.

I’m one of the rare Zeppelin fans who absolutely disagree with suggesting watching the live version of “Since I’ve Been Loving You” before hearing the perfection of the studio recording on the album. There is much more control and focus on the studio recordings than in the live performances, especially with Jimmy, because he had the talent to do it, could get a little bit when I call masturbatory in terms of overplaying because it’s a concert and it’s a live performance and bigger is better in that context. That song, and that solo in that song are in my top five of their entire discography, but I personally just don’t have any real use for the live performance over the studio recording. Again, I know I’m in the minority, but that’s my take on it.

To say Since I've Been Loving You wasn't a hit until TH-cam is one of the wildest statements I've ever heard, and extremely false. That song has been one of their most popular since it was released in 1970. It may have become a hit over the years to a younger generation, but for those who have been listening to Zeppelin since their music first come out, it has always been a hit

The "studio versions" and the live versions are always so very different. To those of us that know Zeppelin, we LOVE the live versions but, for those that are not yet familiar with Zeppelin, the studio version is often the best version for "virgins" . . . . .

I like hearing them live. You get to see where the sounds and their techniques and styles come through. They don’t usually do a song live the same way twice. The studio is good for hearing clean and structured The story telling of the songs is amazing I like both with preference towards the live. I think you will like them live and be amazed. Good reaction.

As a 69 year old man, who lived and loved the music of the 60s and 70s, I suggest you listen to the studio version of any song, then find live versions and make your own decision and opinion on which one you like best. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes about each version. Studio or live.

    Great reaction!
First, im glad finally somebody reacts to the full studio version.
Kudos for pointing out the use of vocals as a guitar and vice versa!
A few suggestions for you next Led Zeppelin reactions:
    1. LZ's music is mostly about rhythm, groove and feel, rather harmony and melody. In the late 60's an interviewer mentioned that unlike bands like the beatles and such, LZ's songs aren't made to be whistling along to.
Therefore - the drums take a major part in LZ's sound, so you'd want to pay attention to drums in most songs. Here for instance, by hitting the snare on the third and then on the fourth intermittently, John Bonham (drummer) brings the funky groove into the song. (Imagine how it would sound if he'd played standard 4/4).
    2. Speaking of the drums - unlike most bands, in many of their songs it seems the drums are used to enhance the guitar's presence. Its mostly made by hitting the bass drum/snare along with specific guitar parts (that arent necessarily fall on the beat).
Therefore - try to pay attention to the relationship between the drums and the guitar.
    3. Speaking of the relationship with the guitar - as you pointed out, Robert (vocalist) and Jimmy almost mimic each other's sound. By that, they almost achieve the effect of 2 guitars being played at once. Furthermore, the "call and response" method between the two shines every now and then.
Therefore - pay attention to the relationship between the vocals and the guitar.
    4. As for John Paul Jones (bass guitar, keyboards, practically anything that isnt vocals/guitar/drums/harmonica) - he really doesnt shine in this particular song, but im certain you'll notice his contribution to the band, mainly by sick bass guitar lines and other instruments he plays.
Therefore - look for unexpected instruments (hence, anything but bass guitar/guitar/vocals/drums/harmonica) and pay attention to the bass guitar lines.
As for influence, the band is mainly influenced by blues music, folk music, r&b/funk and sometimes even oriental musical elements.
    Thanks!

The song came to Zep via blues singer Willie Dixon and the Steve Marriott fronted band "The Small Faces". Zep's version is the most well known. Ideally, I think you should listen to their first album and catch their earliest live performances and progress from there. The music evolved in complexity and originality, while both the singer and musicians had to adapt to the stresses of age and longer shows. But I know you won't do that so nevermind.❤️

The 1973 Madison Square Garden live version would be a good one - you get a rock and roll medley thrown in along with a theremin solo.
