This was such a fun review/comparison video! Thanks for comparing these 3 cameras, I've got an older Sony camera already but have been debating between the Fuji and the Leica for a new EDC camera, so it's good to see the differences and benefits of each camera.
I wanna echo the ending statement. The A7C is a beast for mobile street photography. I like to just set my ISO and adjust shutter speed and aperture on the body/lens. Even without the pricey G pancake lenses there’s plenty of good older used options like my personal favourite the 35mm 2.8 Zeiss Sonnar. I find it to be a fantastic lightweight carry that has ultra fast auto focus with enough aperture to get some nice depth of field shots if you need as well. That camera+lens combo gets you better results than the RXII with much newer features Still…. that Fuji X100V is so damn beautiful
Damn man, this was super enjoyable, I'm not a photographer but I'm a "gadget enthusiast" let's say and like watching reviews of cameras and a bunch of gear that I will probably never use and this was just pure gold, subscribed!
The Ricoh GR line is truly pocketable and one of the most discreet cameras. I shoot with the GRIII and an X100v. If you asked me to decide between them, I am not sure I could. They have a fair amount of same use cases, but I also find they have enough differences that I have convinced myself to keep both. I usually put the GR III in my jacket pocket if I am headed out with friends and think I may see a random cool shot or something I want to capture. If I know I am headed out specifically to shoot I will grab the X100V and still sometimes throw the GR in a jacket.
i've been following and watching your videos for a while now. love the new presentation style and your high energy! it's so entertaining and very engaging :) keep it up!
Despite being a Sony A7 IV shooter myself, I find myself lusting after the Leica Q2. I have had the luxury of trying one out at a premier Leica store and I am compelled to admit that in terms of in hand feel, it is absolutely unparalleled. Truly in a league of its own. Well, it's got the price tag to match 😂
Same, trying out the Leica in store, the feel is next level and that lens is beautiful almost justifying the price. But I can’t get myself to spend 5-6k on a camera (or I will never get my wife to let me). Trying to pick up the x100v for an everyday carry but it’s hard to find right now for retail.
exactly same boat as you, i have an a7iv with the tamron 35-150, 14 gm, and 50 gm. was lusting after the leica for years and finally found one second hand for 4k with a thumb grip and hand grip. i sold my x100v the same day and bought the leica. haven't felt a single ounce of regret
In terms of how it feels in your hands, I agree, 100% ... 110% but lets be realistic, the isn't what a camera is for. an old A7R3 with 35 2.8 Zeiss compact lens blows the Leica away in terms of capability, image quality, pure usability and it isn't physically any bigger.
I literally just bought the RXR II, and it’s by far my favorite camera I ever used, and I just came from using a Leica. With fast color calibration, I’m getting amazing Zeiss pop and color repro. The AF is fine for daily use. You just can’t beat the size to performance ratio. Great full frame compression, high resolution, and despite the battery life being limited, the batteries are dirt cheap and charge fast. I can’t wait to conduct a proper review when I have more sample photos. I have large hands, but adding a grip makes handling a breeze.
All three cameras are amazing! I`ve personally owned the RX1 and RX1RII and currently own a Q2. For me the RX1 really inspired me to look at photography in an artistic way, and the RX1RII is to this day still my #1 camera. However some shortcomings of the RX1RII have become more and more unbearable for my shooting habits, especially the tiny batteries and total lack of weather sealing 🥲 I love the Q2 for its intuitive controls, great battery life and proper weather sealing, and the photos (even straight out of camera) are super sharp with great contrast and depth. And funny enough, with the rangefinder-like frame lines and 28mm FOV, the Q2 in 35mm crop mode is actually imo the better way to shoot 35mm. However, the gentle (not aggressively sharp like the Leica) but detailed look Sony has achieved with the RX1 series is still irreplaceable for me. Hopefully we get to see a mk3 some day ☺
question. as you own two RX1R, is it still worth purchasing the camera in 2023? I`m up for small but definitive shot camera. like x-e4, 100v, x-pro2 with 23mm... such. arigato.
I owned the Fuji x100v for about a year, and I currently own the Q2 mono and A7c. I sold the x100v after acquiring the A7C. I agree with your opinions. I loved the x100v, but I like shooting the Leica and Sony better. To each his own.
I just recently bought an x100v to replace my a7c. I shoot with an A1 and a7iv for work purposes, but wanted something small that would ensure I'm not tempted to grab multiple lenses when out with the family, along with the film simulations saving me time from editing.
What a great video! As a professional photographer I have been looking to add on an EDC camera for travel and street photography when I don't want to bring all my heavy gear and lenses along with me. I have been really leaning towards to Leica but now I'm also curious about the Fuji X100V . Thanks for a great comparison!
Possibly my fav video on the x100v. Ive been planning to take mine to Disney this year instead of my usual big camera setup and i loved seeing how the different simulations look in the park.
i saw that you use a strap attachment from peak design. please tell me if there a way to use it with a fuji so I could open the battery compartment without removing it or you also carry a key with you to remove it before swapping batteries?!
If you really love the Fuji workflow I'd recommend the X-E4. It is sort of the middle ground between 100V and A7C. You can get a super compact setup with the 27 2.8 pancake like the 100V, but with added benefit of interchangeable lens options. Having owned both X-E4 and A7C, you definitely have a slight image quality loss with APS-C vs Full Frame in certain situations - but I'm way happier using the Fuji since I'm confident I can get ready to post/use images quickly and can spend more of my energy focusing on shooting and enjoying the moment I'm actually trying to capture.
a friend of mine had me try his GFX and i'm hooked! good thing it's higher price of entry is keeping me at bay! 🙈 Unfortunately as much as I'd love the Fuji's faster workflow, i'm not interested in investing in another interchangeable lens system at this time. That's why the X100V and the Q2 are so appealing to me. I get to sample of their best features without committing to their ecosystem.
@@JasonVong I understand not wanting to commit to another ecosystem, but the X-E4 is $350 less than the X100V at $1,050 new with the 27mm f/2.8 WR included. But I know I'd be tempted to start buying X Mount lenses if I got one myself. So, I'm going to work on some custom JPG settings for the a6600 (and lenses) that I already own. You've given me a winter photography project!
@@scs6757 the X-E4 and the 27 mm are a good pair! i own several other fuji cameras, as well as the higher toer GFX, and the X-E4 is as good as any of the others, save for the next gen. X-H2S, which is just amazing!
@@grendizer6139 The X-E4 actually has 18 film simulations, adding Eterna Bleach Bypass on top of the 17 other film sims it has in common with the X100V.
Jason, are those air tags hanging down each of the camera with a touch of orange? Pretty cool looking wonder if you can share what those are? Thank you
This may have been your best video yet, J. and V. and I don't say that lightly! Your production was slick, the pacing was perfect, and the information ( including intergratiing the KEH ad) was solid and, well, informative! Keep it up! Once small criticism - no love for the Ricoh?? Including that camera in the lineup would have made this the go-to bible of comparison videos!! Peace! Oh, and I agree with you about the A7C- I just love mine so much and the 35F1.8 and the 55f1.8 are the sweet spot of lenses for the camera. I carry mine in my 3L Peak Design sling and use the Cuff PD wrist strap with it - truly my EDC setup and it has stopped me from lusting after the Fuji x100v!
Ricoh GR III for absolute pocket power. Or, X-E4 with 18mm f/1.4 instead of X100; better low light and clarity. Or, X-E4 with a 27mm pancake for a more normal look.
My only issues with the Q2 (apart from price) are the huge file sizes and proprietary batteries. The original Q could use third party Panasonic batteries, which cut that cost considerably.
Excellent review. I have a Q2, Sony A7Iii and a Fuji x20. Out of them all I agree that the Sony is the grab and go, with the 35mm f1.8 or the Sigma 24mm Contemporary for a more discreet unit. I chose the A7III over the A7C for its far better grip which adds nothing to its size with a lens fitted. All three of the cameras you tested are superb and will serve their owners well.
Shoulda put a Ricoh in there. I have an rx1rii but the thing that kills it is the lack of a joystick or touchscreen and the lack of an option do directly select autofocus point with the wheel/ pad. Sorry, center focus with tracking just doesn’t cut it. Also, the lack of an nd means having to stop down in bright conditions and, as you point out, there is an odd color shift that you have to fix in post. The camera is sooooo close to being amazing but is just lacking a few key features to improve usability
@@balboa0621 we rely on tech instead of fundamentals and that’s the problem with these new cameras. Too many spec driven models overriding learning how to manual focus and control exposure. Soon all these cameras will be big cell phone computational image devices with no soul. The end of an era is almost here.
@@rumporridge1 I was talking about an autofocus joystick. That isn't really a technology or a spec, unless you consider autofocus itself a new technology that limits the purity of photography.
People do want to find their dream cameras. As for me, the best camera is the one that you can pick and be ready shoot all the time at different scenarios. Bearing that in mind, a small and pocket-sized camera with high quality image(without post-pocessing) and different focal lengths with fast AF should probably be the best. My preference would be Q2>RX2>/ Fuji . The images of Q2 are very unique and strong in character. I also have A7C and it is quite up to the above mentioned features but giving too many lenses to choose from sometime would be quite overwhelming. You always need to predict, expect and evaluate your journey, targets and theme of that day. At the end of the day, may be choosing one of the cameras from the video may help us save more time and enjoy more when going out😅.
Hi, thx for the review. I was intrigued to find out that sony has a portable electronic viewfinder? do you know if this is compatible with other sony devices that have no viewfinder, like ZV-E10 for example ? Also if answer is yes, where can i buy it from in Europe ? i found it only on sony asia website. Thx in advance
Would've been interested to have seen how the Ricoh GRiiiX stacked up in this group, opinions of that little beast seem universally positive other than its battery.
I’m pro photographer/videographer….primarily real estate. Every time I’ve gone a holiday I take my Sony A7sii with every intention of using it for something more interesting than real estate…..and I always end up using my phone. It’s way more convenient and more acceptable in public. The images are waaaaay easier to share. A camera like this look good but in reality I’d probably just use my phone on holidays, RAW in the iPhone is really good if you’re just sharing on socials.
Hi Mr. Vong. I have the A74 with GM35. Just curious, do you think the RX1ii picture quality will be as good as the GM35 at f2.8 and beyond? I love the RX1ii for its size but not the price! Thank.
Hi Sir, Could you please advise me on whether to choose the Leica D-Lux 8 over the Fujifilm X100V in terms of picture quality, considering the differences in megapixels? Will I notice a significant difference? I primarily intend to use the camera for family photos, travel, hiking, and posting pictures of art paintings (I am artist) on Instagram and my portfolio. Therefore, portability is important. Perhaps is good to know I am a beginner. So, this will be my first Camara. I have read that the lens of the Leica D-Lux 8 is superior, and some reviews suggest prioritizing the lens quality over megapixels, but I am unsure. I would appreciate your opinion on this matter. Additionally, do you have any other camera recommendations? Thank you for your support.
I have used the A6400 with the Sigma 30 as an EDC camera for more than a year now. It is no slouch. I wish Sony made a 23 or 27mm f2 compact prime with OSS and weather sealing though.
Wait, did fuji take Macro mode out on X100V? I have my X100T and I have a dedicated button for macro. It's not "super" macro but I can get really close to my subject.
Bravo, I really enjoyed your presentation style with these fine cameras. Old school here and after growing up with film with the Nikon F2 and F3, I am hooked on the XPro cameras (1-3) with all their quirks, I feel inspired as you remarked.
I started with Nikon F, F2, F3, and F4. I also used Leica M6. When I started shooting digital professionally, I tried Leica M10, Fuji X-Pro1 and X-Pro2, and Olympus E p1 and E p3. To my surprise, the Fuji have been the most reliable.
Of course the leaf shutter of the Sony - others too? - w/ fixed lense has quite some advantages over the electronic/mechanical shutter of the alpha7C(2): the latter is either somewhat loud or might add pattern (not mentioning Efcs).
@@JasonVong thanka for responding! Yeah Sony AF is next level. I finnaly made the switch from Nikon a few months ago. My first camera was a Sony A7 II, had that for a few months and an old photographer told me Sony wasn't what Pros used and that I should use Nikon or Canon. Being I was brand new I bought a Nikon Z6II, love that camera very much but when I tried to use it for sports or birding, it fell short. Thought it was my technique, so I tried and tried. Finally I discovered that the tracking focus just wasn't fast enough, and it had to do with the hardware in the camera being to slow. So I bought a Nikon d500 and bam I got great fast action shots like I always wanted. But I wanted full frame results. So I finally tried the Soby A9II and a 200-600 lens and wow 😳 what an experience. Tracking focus that locks on. No blackout. Game changer. Then I went all in on Sony, bought some great primes and just need to sell my old gear. I'm attached to Nikon in a way love the colors and the feel of the bodies, so I'll likely buy a used one for street, landscape and portraits
@ 3:22 it never gave B&W sepia film 😂 Sepia was obtained by an additional chemical treatment to B&W prints, or with the use of a special B&W printing paper and with normal B&W films
GR series is best cameras from all pocket ones, but have severe dust problem. Dust comes in because of collapsible lens and after a year or so any camera get dust, while cleaning is possible only in service centers.
I sold my Ricoh. It started making a horrible squeaky noise with the lens extending and collapsing after a year. I was just afraid it wouldn’t survive and I had a canon g1x mk3 which had a slightly worse lens, but felt more robust even though it was a zoom and also had way better jpeg processing which is why I love it.
@@timetraveler_0well it definitely doesn’t feel like that. I have a rico griiix and the xt-3. For travel hands down the best camera you get bring with you. Compact and razor sharp. The dust problem is easily solved. But tape on the mic hole and soundholes. Buy a 20 dollar adapter and a uv filter. Done. Reduced dust problem with atleast 90%.
Reviewing 3 cameras at the same time and keeping it short is impossible. If I miss important things, I'm sure I will never hear the end of it 🤣 but hopefully it's entertaining enough to watch through the whole 20 min of it!
The Sony A7c is essentially an A7 mk3 but in a tiny package, and with modern/upgraded AF. Slap the 35mm zeiss on and you have a very small street camera at higher end performance levels.
As someone that has owned all of these, I would say that none of them is the best EDC camera. After wading through all of these cameras I settled on either a Sony a7r3 with tiny Zeiss 35 2.8 or canon EOS RP with 50mm 1.8 ... they barely take anymore space and in some cases less space than any of these cameras and do everything these cameras do and more.
I have the RX1 and still use it today. Have owned many fujis and still have one as my main ILC. The Sony’s image quality is way way better. The lens is amazing. It’s frustrating to use as its quite slow and has a horrendous interface, but the IQ is far far better. The Leica is the closest we can get to the ergonomics of one and the IQ of the other.
I looked them up here in Australia. The Sony is around 2.5x more expensive than the Fuji, and the Leica nearly 4.5x as expensive. And the Fuji isn’t cheap at $aus1969. Expensive fixed-lens cameras.
Is video decent on these cameras? I've had the original rx1 and leica q and video was bad. I hope they're better on these updated models. Guessing fuji has the best video of the 3?
More info at 16:14 but overall, this Sony doesn’t have 4K if it matters. All are geared towards photography more but can do short video clips no problem!

IMHO it lacks nothing.
@@rumporridge1 I don't think there is anybody who wouldn't mind an easier way to change autofocus point.
@@balboa0621 if you rely on autofocus, joysticks etc that’s fine brother. I for one hand do not. There are other techniques beside a darn joystick.
Thx in advance
nevermind, i see it is only for RX cameras, thx anyway!
Would've been interested to have seen how the Ricoh GRiiiX stacked up in this group, opinions of that little beast seem universally positive other than its battery.
I'd love to get my hands on a Ricoh next! That thing is tiny!
@@JasonVong stabilisation in it is meant to be pretty swish too
@@elwick_photo AF speed would be very important.
@@bngr_bngr that I can't attest to! One day I'll get my hands on one 🤣
fuji colors are amazing
for someone like me who's editing less and less, fuji colors are LIFE SAVERS
In the opening scene which camera was used for each photo?
Did you ever have any issues with blowing the highlights with the Rx1r? If so did you feel like stepping down and recovering the shadows helped?
Hey Jason.... I saw you at Kualoa Ranch! I was the worker who recognized you
dude that was awhile ago! HAHA Vivienne was back recently and she was gonna ask you about excursion stuff in Kualoa ranch! Hope all is well!
Thank.
So I saw that you got the RX1 on your other video. What's the difference between that and the RX1RII?
Hey people! Hope you all are having a great day!
Hi Sir,
Could you please advise me on whether to choose the Leica D-Lux 8 over the Fujifilm X100V in terms of picture quality, considering the differences in megapixels? Will I notice a significant difference? I primarily intend to use the camera for family photos, travel, hiking, and posting pictures of art paintings (I am artist) on Instagram and my portfolio. Therefore, portability is important. Perhaps is good to know I am a beginner. So, this will be my first Camara.
I have read that the lens of the Leica D-Lux 8 is superior, and some reviews suggest prioritizing the lens quality over megapixels, but I am unsure. I would appreciate your opinion on this matter. Additionally, do you have any other camera recommendations?
Thank you for your support.
Luved your comparison!
Loved how you went full sony fanboy for the AF!! Hysterical!!!
I love how realistic and practical this is.
I have used the A6400 with the Sigma 30 as an EDC camera for more than a year now. It is no slouch. I wish Sony made a 23 or 27mm f2 compact prime with OSS and weather sealing though.
Excellent presentation,,,I have both the Fuji x100v and the Leica Q2 and your right on with your review. Thank you
Wait, did fuji take Macro mode out on X100V? I have my X100T and I have a dedicated button for macro. It's not "super" macro but I can get really close to my subject.
Still trying to single handedly make the RX1 III happen
Bravo, I really enjoyed your presentation style with these fine cameras. Old school here and after growing up with film with the Nikon F2 and F3, I am hooked on the XPro cameras (1-3) with all their quirks, I feel inspired as you remarked.
I started with Nikon F, F2, F3, and F4. I also used Leica M6.
When I started shooting digital professionally, I tried Leica M10, Fuji X-Pro1 and X-Pro2, and Olympus E p1 and E p3.
To my surprise, the Fuji have been the most reliable.
Another great and entertaining vid. One compliant though, needs more Vivian. :)
maybe we should release the 1 hour extended cut of this 🤣
@@JasonVong hells ya!! Wait…there’s a LONGER version!!??
Of course the leaf shutter of the Sony - others too? - w/ fixed lense has quite some advantages over the electronic/mechanical shutter of the alpha7C(2): the latter is either somewhat loud or might add pattern (not mentioning Efcs).
You are so cool! What a great review!!!! Love this one. That laugh 😂 when you said Sony AF reigns king 👑
Despite it being from 2015, I was surprised how much the AF on the Sony lapped both the Fuji and Leica and those came out 4-5 years later 🤯
This guy is the the grand master of all youtubers. 🎉
Well put together
Well done 👍
LOVE this video ,useful and enjoyable! Thanks !
Kish is all about that Sony camera!
I can definitely see why! But imma need him to tell Sony to give us an RX1R III please.
@@JasonVong he said the same thing!
I love my Fuji but seeing how the Ricoh grx3 can retract it's lens to make it pocketable. Dang that seems nice
Suprised you did not include the Ricoh GR series (APC) or Sony RX series (1 inch sensor cameras)
Great review! Thanks
@ 3:22 it never gave B&W sepia film 😂
Sepia was obtained by an additional chemical treatment to B&W prints, or with the use of a special B&W printing paper and with normal B&W films
With the A7C my RX1Riii dreams disappeared. I just hope they continue the line with an A7C Mkii in the future.
i selfishly think we can still get an EVEN smaller FF camera. But yes, a7C II would be KING!
I know this is off topic but have you tried to compare a mirrorless vs a camcorder? I'm torn between Sony A7 IV and Sony PXW-Z90.
Loved this video ❤
you forgot the Ricoh GR3
GR series is best cameras from all pocket ones, but have severe dust problem. Dust comes in because of collapsible lens and after a year or so any camera get dust, while cleaning is possible only in service centers.
No viewfinder or flash NO THANKS
I sold my Ricoh. It started making a horrible squeaky noise with the lens extending and collapsing after a year. I was just afraid it wouldn’t survive and I had a canon g1x mk3 which had a slightly worse lens, but felt more robust even though it was a zoom and also had way better jpeg processing which is why I love it.
Man that looks and feels like a cheap plastic camera that's going to breakdown in a few years.
I feel like im watching a report on school. I didn't get bored! HAHAHHAA
Dear Jason, your Videos keep getting better, thanks so much! But, please keep them short.😃
Reviewing 3 cameras at the same time and keeping it short is impossible. If I miss important things, I'm sure I will never hear the end of it 🤣 but hopefully it's entertaining enough to watch through the whole 20 min of it!
@@JasonVong You are totally right. I understand. It was a very deep review. I also like keeping it small, but I still love my A7SIII. Great Video!
Still waiting for the RX1R iii
we are the #smallpassionateRX1RIIIcommunity !! c'mon Sony!!
Between you and me ; this is Vivian’s camera and I’m going to steal it from her ! 😂😂😂
Is that says "Potato Head" at 19:02😂
Yep!
I have the X100V but I'd love an updated RX1 camera.
same.
Hi Jason, it's Victor was this the day I took a picture of you guys at the end of the night by pumpkin Mickey
Hey! Yea! Thanks again for helping out!
@@JasonVong your welcome, it was nice meeting you guys
The Sony A7c is essentially an A7 mk3 but in a tiny package, and with modern/upgraded AF. Slap the 35mm zeiss on and you have a very small street camera at higher end performance levels.
🔥Excellent Reviews, but can you recommend a much better camera for Low-Ligh Video ❓🎥📸
A7siii is still the best
@@JasonVong Thanks for responding so fast, Jason. Much appreciated!!
My kind of thinking but now with the R8 and a 24mm/2.8 or 35mm/1.8 IS
How about RICOH GR III?
Would love to get my hands on one next!
Fujifilm X100V is out of stock everywhere. People selling used at 2k mark on FB market
Based on your comment at the end, I'm guessing you would recommend the a7c over all 3 of these if I am already an e-mount user?
Yes for the best hybrid FF capability and the best AF, the a7C is my recommendation
I have an A7C with a 35mm pancake lens already, but I can't help but still having a crush on the RX1R.
Right?!?!?
Don’t. I have an rx1rii. The focus tracking, touchscreen, ibis, and battery make the a7c a much more usable option
@@balboa0621 yes but have you considered its adorable?
@@Cam-pe3nd if that's your standard, pick up a Fuji. She's way hotter.
and which is the best one for beginners?
"'like film film, like your grandaddy's film..." = that moment when you realize someone is not talking to you, they're talking about you, lol.
RX1RII any day of the week and on weekends!❤
