    Man I cannot believe that you have the first Transalp “review” on American TH-cam! At least the first one that I’ve seen! 👍I was shocked actually when this popped up.

      Same here. I've been waiting for months now for an American to review this bike on American roads. For some reason, the European reviews just don't speak to me.

    Awesome job on this overview. I'm so glad you bought a Transalp. I thought about it, but I am committed to the new R1300GS... better save my pennies for that. I agree, this is more of an upgraded CB500X, and that's probably perfect for a lot of folks.

      Dork (ben) said he felt like after the marketing redesign, the final product ended up being a tall Honda Hornet. Which was far different from the original vision.

      We saw the new R1300GS at Barber also and it’s sweet! We test rode several bikes there including the Tiger 900 (which we both liked). Very glad to see a good review on the new Transalp. Great job sir and thank you for your efforts! Hope that foot gets better soon.

    Probably a great new bike, but it is ugly as hell. An adventure bike should look like a 4x4 not a transformer. I would pick a Enfield Himalayan just on looks over this thing.

    Welcome to the club. You have finally Transalp in America. I have one too the white one (I waited longer than black or silver but I am in Crete and we have sunshine) I have 3000 km already and I am in heaven. You will need extras and both deflectors are making a difference. But the best accessory the quickshifter is already on your bike.
    The buttons on the left (the joystick and all the others) are not so easy to use but time will make it easier, I think they will change it in the next versions.
    The tall windscreen is for tall riders, I personally dont need one (I am 1.80 m = 5 ft and 11 in).
    The phone is pairing with the bike easy, they keep updating the app but is not so useful yet.
    I like the behavior of the bike in crosswinds. It's amazing.
    There is major criticism about the tires (the majority wanted tubeless) and you mentioned the reasons (the cost).
    The 2023 Transalp is the best Transalp by far (and I have riden them all and I sold my 2002 Transalp with 160.000 km after 21 years without any major issue). The Transalp is not a baby Africa Twin, Honda may give a different version in the future and Transalp is not a big CB500X either (and they share the headlight).
    Τhey say the engine was designed with testing for two years and the engine itself for another two years.
    The factory located in Japan because because the cylinders have a specific coating.
    Try to locate the oil filter and the reason it is there..

    Congratulations man im glad you ankle is better now. Im sure you're glad and tired of sitting at home. It looks like a bigger cb500x. Same headlight and taillight and turn signal.

    • @adventureundone
      @adventureundone  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah 100% bigger cbx. All this Africa Twin comparison is a bit much, and if at all it has to be only compared to the base model.

  • @JonathanSchwarzmann
    @JonathanSchwarzmann ปีที่แล้ว +4

    What a great review. Hard my European spec Transalp for 3weeks and you have nailed my thoughts. Your criticism on the clutch is my main pet hate with the bike. I have tried to adjust but still too far letting out the clutch lever before the friction zone. When i have finished my run in period and take the bike in for the first service i will try to get it sorted. Cruise control is only other option i want. Every review says the same.maybe Honda will bring out a dealer fit accessory. Let's hope.

    I love the color. Options would be nice, but even if we had options, I would choose that color. Also, this bike needs tubeless and cruise control, but I guess Honda has to leave something for future iterations. I hate that it doesn’t save traction control off. Pretty cool that is has self canceling turn signals and a quick shifter as standard from the dealer.

    • @adventureundone
      @adventureundone  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, again I see this as a “base” model, Honda need and adventure sport version of this, just like the AT

    • @Jack-yl7cc
      @Jack-yl7cc 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've personally had bikes that were 30+ years old at this point that had cruise control(of sorts) despite the fact that they had carburetors and a throttle controlled by physical cables. With this brand new bike it has "throttle by wire" so the lack of cruise control is I feel an intentional omission from the software that controls the engine. Honda has many motorcycle models with cruise control so until proven otherwise, I can only assume that getting cruise control on this Transalp will be a cash grab from Honda as one of those optional "features / ride modes" you will have to pay for.

    Changing flats with tube tires is awful and requires carrying a ton of tools. No cruise control, in 2024?? Wouldn't ever consider this for one road, and it's not set up for dirt roads. It's a wannabee.

    Congrats on the new bike! Very exciting that they are on the ground here in the US. Once again, surprised by Honda's choice of paint schemes. They didn't bring Americans the White/Blue? Red white and blue and gold, are literally the 4 colors on the American flag. Unbelievable that they didn't give any color options. Seriously, just having 5 or 6 color options, would make this the most popular ADV bike on the entire market. Royal Enfield has at least 4 color options of some of their bikes.

  • @ferkuzuel

    First I want to say is that is good to see you doing well on your recovery, the bike looks like it does fits you very well, I think the big advantage of this bike is its weight, just by looking at it, it looks light and nimble , I think that will attract a lot of buyers especially those who just want an adventure bike for what is meant to be.
    Cheers 🎉

    I bought an '89 Honda Transalp XL600V new and road it for 28 years. I sold it for more than I paid for it. I loved every minute of the years I owned it. Off road has lost its appeal. I'm glad I had some years riding around northern New Mexico before I sold it. Other than the regular maintenance, and replacing tires, chain and sprockets, I had no problems at all. I've switched to a 2012 Honda NC700 with luggage as I moved into my retirement. With an AirHawk seat it's easy to take on a ride as long as 12 hours.

    Man.. I have a 2017 AT that I absolutely love. This doesn’t do anything for me. It’s like it came out of the same think tank that designed the 150L. Cheap and not well thought out.
    Touching on the low slung exhaust. My wife has a 2018 CB500X. She immediately complained about the low slung exhaust because when she stood her heel would be on the exhaust. Having Pivot Pegs made this even worse. Scorpion makes an upswept exhaust for the 500x that she has. Maybe they will make one for this. Doesn’t sound bad either. Moved the can up and away and doesn’t touch her heal anymore

    I specifically hunted down a first-gen KLR650 for my ADV bike, because I needed it to be 100% analog, reliable and durable, easy to work on, and cheap to maintain. Nothing from BMW qualifies, and the T700 is close. I was hoping the TransAlp would hit that nail on the head, but the digital touch-screen dash, quick-shifter, cruise control, rider nanny, and throttle-by-wire are all unnecessary (and expensive) tech that will break at the most inopportune time possible. So far, the Royal Enfield Himalaya and new KLR are the only two new ADV bikes on the market that stick to the KISS principle. Thanks for the overview.

    Great review!
    Just so you know, your audio is just fine. No real wind noise, and in fact I would rate it as a 9, on a 1 to 10 scale. The only variance was when you got on it to show the exhaust note. It kinda sounded as if you edited it to get the sound of the exhaust. Otherwise, I can just hear the shifts & acceleration, but it in NO way covers your audio.
    Your camera is set just right, also a 9. I can really feel it when you stand up, just like I was on the bike.
    Have to say, so far I’m impressed. I am very much your size, and after trying Hondas like the 300 Rally I see now that the advantages of a flat foot seat height. I guess I really prefer that. I’m well behind your riding experience though, so I still feel cautious about the size. If it were a 350 to 500 I’d feel more comfortable. Though you have convinced me that 750 is at least a possibility… I really didn’t think that was realistic, but I’ll be watching your rides. And I’ll be checking it out at at the local dealer when (if) they come in.
    Colors are way better than the 300’s fire engine red.
    Only real questions so far is, along with your suggestions about the wind screen extensions, have you thought any about some sort of protection for the pipes, as they are hanging out there (rocks & stuff). Also if you will consider any crash guards (I feel your caution after your “spill”).
    My wife is a cautious person, but she spent some time cruising on the back of my last bike (Kawasaki 90), she likes your grab bars. Though I had a 1200 Harley, and a Honda 350 before that (she never rode those).
    😁😎

    never ridden..plan on cb500x being my 1st bike next spring and I'm already PRETTY SURE when I upgrade it will be a transalp in 2-3 years time so they should add cruise control by then. Il end up with a electric Dual sport for a Dirtbike replacement doing offroad asap so its a low priority going about Rally Raiding the 500x and not really a consideration for the Transalp Except basics like Seat, Barkbusters and aggressive alt Tires. having the Stock Tires Will Be Perfect For The Gravel, Street and Highway miles il accumulate early and Provide a backup pair when I go aggressive. Then il proceed with Skidplate and Crashbars...Then Heated Grips, paneers(?) etc... Probably Buy a Taller/Bigger Windshield before I get the Bike....Probably be the Only Bikes I buy from a Store unless im lucky.

    great video.
    One plus to having tubed tires, is Slime. Ive been using the product (a self sealing liquid that goes inside the inner tube) for 20 years in my bicycling.
    if you get a poke (up to 1/8 inch) and lose some air, slowly rotate the wheel to distribute the slime, add air, and move on with your day.
    they make a tubeless tire slime as well, but its a HUGE mess at the tire shop when it comes time to replace. Shop techs will NOT appreciate you.

    Let's compare it to a 1979 CBX. Both have low front fenders that clog with mud. Neither will go up a real hill or slam through a set of whoops WOT in third gear. The Transalp is about 100 pounds lighter. The CBX has about 20 more horsepower. The CBX will hold its value much better. By my criteria, the CBX is a much better adventure bike. 😉

I left about a 3/4 inch cut in the tire. I might have been able to patch the tube, but I don't think I could have plugged the tire. Replacing tubeless tires requires a compressor and tank with sufficient volume to seal the bead. I wanted tubed tires so I could replace tires on my own with a bicycle pump.
    I'm not a fan of cruise control. I've never liked the feel of being propelled down the road without my direct control. I use a CrampBuster. In traffic I can easily keep two fingers on the brake and work the throttle. On the highway it just takes a light grip and I rest my hand on the throttle. I've done numerous long rides with no hand fatigue.

      Yeah I felt the same way when I first started using cruise on a bike. But now I love it.

    Aside from the taller wheels it doesn't look like it was meant for off road. Plastic looks cheap and the muffler is way too low. Looks like a Chinese knock off.

    No real biker gives a damn about TFT screens. The rest of the bike seems like a worthwhile purchase. It's a road bike. Should have a 19-inch front wheel and tubeless tyres.

    Thanks for the nice video. How tall are you, so I can gauge you standing just flatted footed? As far as feel on that fire road compared to some of your other bikes, I'm guessing those other bikes are heavier and you have not adjusted and fully broken in the suspension on your Transalp. I personally like the ability to have a strong suspension for riding faster on the dirt, but also being a motocrosser, I'm used to strong suspension. Regarding the long pull on the clutch lever, which I can totaly see your point, you probably can adjust it a bit, but I would buy a replacement lever, that has a bend that brings it physically closer... and hopefully still give you a full pull. Regarding the tubed tires, I believe that is on purpose because people who do utilize the bike off-pavement can deal with a repair easier (in the field). That being said, you do make good points and cretiques, which I do believe can mostly be solved with the aftermarket. Good luck with your new bike... looks like fun.

    3:49. The common theme among reviews is that the Honda Transalp has the best street handling, and the best ergonomics, in stock form, out of any of the adventure bikes. People constantly say "Honda knows how to build a motorcycle." Because they have figured out exactly what a person needs for comfort. The suspension isn't supposed to be fancy, but one reviewer did say that it's the best handling ADV bike he's ever ridden on the street. 5:00. Regarding the windscreen; why are windscreens so small on all the modern ADV bikes when 100% of reviewers complain about horrendous wind noise in the helmet, and wind buffeting? The manufacturers need to get together and agree to install massive 24" tall windscreens on all their models, that way they all have the same "dumb" windscreen. IF you want a smaller screen, then you can go with a smaller aftermarket screen (if you want to look cool).

    Two things:
    One, thing that is sad to me is that they completely changed the look of what the old epic transalp was. Especially the air protection on the old one was just, kinda perfect IMHO.
    Two:
    That exaust. Why. Honda, why. Is this really for offroad?
    But thanks for reviewing it ❤ i was speechless to find somebody that already owns it. Who knows for the EU version what'll change.

    Honda using the low exhaust to call to us old guys who rode SL350’s, ah nostalgia! That tailpiece looks like it came straight off my ‘21 T7 and will fit right into your Trashcan, no problem. It’s a shame that Honda chose gimmicks like the quick shifter over practicality like Cruise. WTF do you need a quick shifter on this Bike for? Please. The Tricolor (red white blue) is absolutely gorgeous but, this black is growing on me. The excess tech like “ride modes” won’t make up for a lack of Rider abilities and I’ll never understand why anyone would want these electronic bandaids on a Motorcycle. I would very much like to park one of these in my barn next to my T7 for longer rides but, at the rate the DC Cartel is destroying both our economy and our Constitutional Freedoms I don’t know that it will be possible. Congratulations Man, enjoy it and please keep us updated as you Ride.

    How old is liked the transalp line even back in the 80s when they first came out come out I never bought one because the time I was in the dirt bikes and trail riding and that’s just not exactly what they’re meant for, having the exhaust on the bottom And his bikes, being kind of engineer in the middle to be good on the street and we’re both on and off road means there’s a csacrifices. So for me, it never worked because I wanted to go to rocks and logs and things like fairings, and when the screens were way too breakable, but as I get older and my knees are shot and I have back injuries, now I appreciate these a lot more and though I’m much more of an XR 650 L guy, in general, and that was about as dual purpose as I ever really wanted to go, now my bees are changing because I’m not gonna be jumping logs and rocks and doing a bunch of single track but I’m still not gonna buy a street bike because I live in the country and we’ve got gravel roads and dirt and right now this is a pretty viable option and some thing I think I’d like very very much, I also like the Africa twin but honestly, I’ve never been a huge fan of the bigger, heavier bikes, I’m kind of old enough to where the sport bike thing is over in the high power high-speed stuff doesn’t really appeal to me anymore and I’m kind of loving the new Transalp, it’s got sort of the Africa twin vibe going, but is a reasonable size. I’d actually like to see them maybe do you like they do in Europe and have some smaller sizes come out with newer technology and 450 might be pretty awesome and be much lighter. I think it looks pretty cool too, I’m glad you got a hold of one, it looks like a pretty awesome ride.
