    As a former men’s barber and salon owner of 38 yrs, I cleaned up more scalps and facial skin concerns than most Dr’s. Truthfully Male or female, if you do not keep the bacteria off the scalp, (including beard, mustache areas) then the scalp & facial hair will not only stink… smelling sour but will cause all kinds of scalp / skin concerns. Wearing baseball caps / hats continually without allowing your scalp to breathe also causes issues. Shampoo w TWO Sudsing’s, with tepid water. The first lifts it off the scalp, the second removes it out of the hair.
    Experience has proved to me, 90% of Dr’s, and dermatologists truly don’t ’get it’s… but William Gaunitz certainly nailed this 100%.

      The guy in the video is most likely a certified trichologist and the scalp should be treated like your face or body, you wouldn't go more then 2 days without washing your face or body it's the same for your scalp. I wash my scalp every other day, because I would have scalp itching and flaking, now my scalp feels relieved with cleansing every other day. I'm a hairstylist and the clients with the thickest longest hair wash daily or every other day, and some of them just use drugstore hair products🤷‍♀️ like pantene, dove, suave

    I had cystic acne all over my forehead and I went to dermatologist only for acne problem. She suggested salicylic acid based shampoo, and adviced me to wash my hair everyday for 5 days then gradually every 2 days, 3 days. And my acne has gone. I never knew I had itchy scalp and my hair was thinning. Now I wash my hair everyday with mild shampoo and once a week I still use salicylic acid shampoo. I have no problem of hair thinning or acne.

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Wow, that's awesome! 🎉 It sounds like your dermatologist gave you a solid plan, and it really worked out for both your acne *and* scalp health. Sometimes scalp conditions like buildup, dandruff, or even excess oil can cause or worsen acne, especially around the forehead area. By using a **salicylic acid-based shampoo**, you're likely reducing oiliness and unclogging your pores-not just on your scalp but also in areas close to your hairline. This, in turn, helps with acne prevention.
      Here’s what’s going right for you:
      🔬 **Salicylic Acid**: This is a great ingredient for both acne and scalp care. It helps to exfoliate the scalp, remove dead skin cells, and control oil, which prevents clogged pores and keeps your scalp healthy.
      💧 **Daily Washing**: Washing your hair regularly with a mild shampoo helps keep your scalp clean without stripping it of its natural oils, which seems to be working perfectly for you!
      🌟 **Hair Health**: The fact that you’re no longer noticing hair thinning is a great sign that your scalp is in a much healthier state now. Healthy scalp = healthier hair growth!
      Keeping up this balance with your current routine (mild shampoo daily, salicylic acid once a week) seems like a great strategy moving forward. Just keep an eye on your scalp’s needs, and adjust if necessary!

    is it okay to use these shampoos alternative days or just to stand with one, i have hairfall and extreme dandruff issue
    1 - ketocanazole
    2 - salicylic acid plus tea tree
    3 - peptides and adenosine
    4 - cheveux with amino acides vitamin b5 ceramide
    all the above have different constituents, is not better to use benefits of all these four ??

      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey @aryaa9725! 😊 You’ve got a good mix of shampoos there, each targeting different aspects of hair and scalp health. Here's a quick breakdown:
      Ketoconazole: Great for controlling dandruff and reducing DHT on the scalp, which can help with hair loss.
      Salicylic Acid + Tea Tree: This combo is excellent for exfoliating the scalp, reducing oiliness, and preventing buildup, which can also help with dandruff.
      Peptides and Adenosine: These ingredients are known for their role in promoting hair growth and improving hair density.
      Cheveux with Amino Acids, Vitamin B5, Ceramide: This sounds like a nourishing formula that strengthens hair and repairs damage.
      Using all these on alternate days could give you the benefits of each, but it’s also important to monitor how your scalp and hair respond. If you notice any irritation or dryness, it might be better to stick with just one or two that target your main concerns-like hair fall and dandruff. Also, rotating between too many products can sometimes make it hard to pinpoint what’s really working for you.
      Finding the right balance is key, so start slow and see how your scalp reacts! 👍

      If your scalp is super oily, washing your hair every 1-2 days is usually a good balance. 🧴💦 This helps keep excess oil in check without stripping your scalp of natural moisture. Look for a gentle shampoo that’s sulfate-free but still designed for oily hair. Using something with salicylic acid or zinc pyrithione could help too if you’re dealing with dandruff or buildup.
      Just don’t over-wash-washing too often can sometimes make your scalp produce even more oil!

For chlorine and salt water but conditioner on your hair before you get in the pool/sea. Always rinse out the chlorine and salt after. Then I use Cantu Co-wash and always use a leave in condtioner after. scalp and hair is happy. Now if you have bleach or relaxer or perm.......they do not go well with chlorine.

      Hi! Persistent dandruff can be frustrating, even when using dandruff shampoo. Managing dandruff often involves a combination of the right products and a proper hair care routine. Here are some tips to help you address dandruff effectively:
      1. Use a Medicated Dandruff Shampoo: If over-the-counter dandruff shampoos aren't effectively managing your dandruff, consider trying a medicated dandruff shampoo with specific active ingredients. Common active ingredients in dandruff shampoos include:
      Zinc pyrithione: This helps control the yeast that can contribute to dandruff.
      Ketoconazole: An antifungal agent that can treat dandruff caused by yeast.
      Salicylic acid: Helps exfoliate and remove dead skin cells from the scalp.
      Coal tar: Reduces itching and flaking associated with dandruff.
      Selenium sulfide: Controls dandruff and prevents its recurrence.

      Yes, but be very2 gentle when shampooing, I mean like really gentle, almost like a soft touch. I used to wash twice daily when the flakes were thick. I add two drops of tea tree oil as antibacterial antifungus cleaner on every shampoo routine. And when your scalp starting to heal, those thick flakes on scalp and eyebrows will become thinner and fall off, it will be super satisfying to see the flakes fall off itself, sometimes I peeled it with hands, please don't do that, just let it peeled itself. But the first 2 or 4 weeks, you'll experience a break outs, the tea tree oil purging the fungus will create some reactions. Just keep doing it, the key is to keep your scalp clean. Now I only shampoo once daily. Tea tree oil, remember that

    This advise DOES NOT work for coily, tightly curled African American hair. Most black people can not wash their hair daily regardless of the condition of the scalp. Even twice a week might be to much. They won't have healthy hair if this is done because most black hair is naturally dry. Moisture and oil is needed daily to nourish and hydrate black hair. Otherwise, it will break, tangle, knot, and other issues which is not good.

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you exercise daily and sweat a lot, it's important to keep your scalp clean, but you don't want to over-wash and strip your hair of its natural oils. Here’s a balanced approach:
      Wash Frequency:
      3-4 Times a Week: Aim to wash your hair about 3-4 times a week if you have normal to oily hair. This frequency helps remove sweat and buildup without drying out your scalp.
      Use Gentle Shampoos:
      Sulfate-Free Shampoos: Opt for sulfate-free shampoos that cleanse your scalp effectively but gently. These are less likely to strip your hair of essential moisture.
      Rinse Between Washes:
      Water Rinse: On non-wash days, you can rinse your hair with water to remove sweat and refresh your scalp without using shampoo.
      Condition and Protect:
      Light Conditioner: Use a light conditioner on the ends of your hair to keep it hydrated. Avoid applying it directly to your scalp.
      Dry Shampoo: On days when you skip washing, you can use dry shampoo to absorb excess oil and keep your hair looking fresh.
      Adjust the routine based on how your scalp feels. If it feels itchy or irritated, you may need to wash more frequently or adjust your shampoo.

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Great question! If you’re a guy with short hair, the need to wash daily really depends on your scalp type and activity level.
      👨‍🦲 **Oily scalp**: If your scalp tends to get oily quickly, daily washing with a mild shampoo might help keep things fresh and clean without drying it out.
      💪 **Active lifestyle**: If you work out or sweat a lot, washing daily can help remove sweat and prevent buildup.
      🌿 **Normal/Dry scalp**: If your scalp is more on the normal or dry side, you can get away with washing every 2-3 days. Over-washing could strip your scalp of natural oils, leading to dryness or irritation.
      Short hair is usually easier to maintain, so just pay attention to how your scalp feels and adjust as needed!

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist

      Yes, it’s totally okay to use conditioner every day! 🌟
      Conditioners are designed to keep your hair moisturized and smooth, so daily use is generally fine. If your hair feels dry or needs some extra TLC, daily conditioning can actually be beneficial.
      As for shampooing, using it only when your hair feels oily or dirty is a good approach, especially if you’re concerned about over-drying your hair. This method is often referred to as "co-washing" (conditioner-only washing) and works well for people with dry or curly hair types.
      Just make sure to:
      - **Choose a lightweight conditioner** if you’re conditioning daily, to avoid buildup.
      - **Clarify occasionally** with shampoo to remove any product buildup and keep your scalp healthy.
      This routine can keep your hair hydrated while preventing it from getting weighed down or oily. 🌿

    Can we wash with water only

    • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
      @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you can wash your hair with water only, and this method is often referred to as "water-only washing" or "water-only hair washing." This approach involves using water to cleanse the hair and scalp without the use of traditional shampoos or conditioners. The idea is to allow the hair's natural oils to balance and regulate themselves.
      Here are some points to consider if you're interested in water-only washing:
      Transition Period: When transitioning to water-only washing, there may be an adjustment period where your scalp and hair adapt to the new routine. During this time, your hair may feel different as it adjusts to producing less oil.
      Scalp Massage: Massaging your scalp thoroughly during water-only washing can help distribute natural oils and promote blood circulation, contributing to a healthier scalp.
      Water Quality: The quality of your water can impact the effectiveness of water-only washing. Hard water may leave mineral deposits on the hair, affecting its texture.
      Brushing: Regularly brushing your hair with a natural-bristle brush can help distribute oils from the scalp to the ends, promoting overall hair health.
      It's essential to note that water-only washing may not be suitable for everyone, and its effectiveness can vary depending on hair type and individual preferences. Some people may find success with this method, while others may prefer using minimal-ingredient, sulfate-free shampoos.
      If you're considering water-only washing, be patient during the adjustment period, and pay attention to how your hair responds. If you have specific concerns about your hair care routine, consulting with a trichologist or dermatologist can provide personalized guidance.

      Great question! 🏋️‍♂️ If you're sweating a lot from daily sports, it's important to keep your scalp clean, but using shampoo every day can sometimes dry out your hair, especially if the shampoo is too harsh.
      Here’s a good approach:
      - **Mild shampoo**: Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo that's designed for daily use. This helps cleanse your scalp without stripping your hair of its natural oils.
      - **Conditioner**: Always follow up with a good conditioner to keep your hair hydrated and prevent dryness.
      - **Scalp care**: Focus on washing your scalp rather than the entire length of your hair every time. This keeps your scalp fresh without over-drying your hair ends.
      If you notice your hair getting too dry, try reducing the frequency or alternating with just rinsing your hair with water some days. 🚿

    😭 I am very confused. I thought washing your hair too much striped it and caused damage? I have been washing my hair once or twice a month for years. I hate when information changes and I don't know about it. Washing hair once a week or daily seems excessive but I guess the information I have lived by is significantly out dated.

      It's only if you have a scalp problem. Also if you are shampooing daily always use a shampoo from your trichologist/dermatologist. Do not change your routine if you have no scalp problems or hair loss.

    I need to wash my hair every other day because I have an oily scalp, which has been exacerbated while being on holiday in a hot/humid climate. I’ve been washing my hair everyday and I’ve found that I’m losing less hair and my scalp feels clean and not itchy.
