Your table may not be perfect, but it's still beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Tina! 😃
The color of the glass table looks fabulous in the room.
Doesn't it? I love that colour! 😃
It is always so interesting to see you work through the steps of a project, even if it doesn’t work out perfectly the first time. The color of the glass is spectacular in that room! Such an interesting and modern creation, especially juxtaposed against so many traditional elements. I’m glad that you didn’t put those little glass tubes into the kiln😂 It seems like the resin is a perfect solution. I also love that tiny silver bowl, it’s beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this experiment with us!
Basically, it is an unfinished design process 😉 I like that juxtaposition of styles, here of course the link with the rest of the room is the colour but also the proportions. The silver bowl is Georg Jensen's Henning Koppel Wave Bowl, made by Jens Torp. It was my birthday gift last year! 😃
Fabulous! Every project is an adventure, thank you for bringing us along on your journeys! The end result is stunning but i know the imperfections will bother you as i’d be the same but everyone else will enjoy the beauty of it. The colours the light casts is delicious! ❤
Thank you so much Wendy! Well, I know that when I have time I can try and remake it, so I'm okay with the imperfections for now. Delicious, what a great description of those colours, love it! 😃
You come up with some amazing ideas Josje, I love that you shared experimenting with glass, gorgeous colours by the way, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
Thank you Julie! The colour...it's like a piece of jewellery in the room. 😃
I am amazed at how many different media you have learned, and you do so well in all of them!
Thank you! But with the glass I am just a beginner, playing and exploring. 😃
Oh I really like that! I love your rooms. Your peices are superb. You have excellent taste.
Thank you so much! That's so kind of you. 😃
I love this idea! The mixture of contemporary styling in an antique room is fantastic. That table will be beautiful. Perhaps you could find a glass blowing kiln somewhere and ask them to make you the top that you need. It would be a great project for a glass art student. I was given miniature, wooden cutting board made a wood shop student many years ago and I still love it. Also, I love that you have a tool for every occasion! Your studio is a wonderful space! Hope you feel better soon! ❤
Yep, that's what I've been thinking too. When I have time I'm going to see if I can make that happen, and maybe even learn a few things myself.
I love tools and would have loads more if I had the space. I wish there was a Makerspace in my area, I would probably be over there a lot!
Wonderful to have such a miniature given to you by a shop student!
Thanks Dana! 😃
I love the table even the unevenness of it Lol. I think I have a theory why you got those bubbles in the glass, there was probably some air trapped between the two layers of the glass and when it melted the air got stuck in there ,we learn from our mistakes, you’re doing great you can say you did that on purpose😅
Haha yes! I think you may be right about the air trapped between the layers. The bottom of the glass was quite uneven. Thank you Kara! 😃
Gorgeous artwork. 😊❤🎨🖼What a shame that the wallpaper got damaged by something that should not have caused damage.🤨
Thank you Vicki! I should touch up the wallpaper with some paint, even if it is not visible behind the painting. 😃
I think it is a really creative idea and I am sure, that if you can get a longer piece of glass in the same beautiful colour, it will be a very pretty piece. And the colour does go very well with the other colours in the room. At least now you know at what temperature you need to fire your glass 😊. Hope you are soon past your cough.
Well, if I find a new piece of glass it could be a different COE (Coefficient of Expansion) than the one I've used now. I'd have to do a test in my kiln again.
But I enjoy testing, trying out and experimenting. It's just a shame I didn't have enough material to continue experimenting this time. I hope I can find a very similar colour because this one is perfect! 😃
It is indeed 😊
So beautiful! Glass top would be beautiful with a wooden base too. Very modern.
Thank you so much! It would, but then I would put a carpet underneath it to separate it from the wooden floor. 😃
Beautiful concept. Modern, but not stark. I'm glad you removed the carpet. It came together beautifully. See you "next time."
Thank you Melissa! Yes the carpet was just there temporarily, it didn't go with the room at all. Sometimes I put things in a room just to see how a shape or a colour will work, and I forget that others will not know my thought process. 😉
A lovely table and a great idea ❤ I perfectly remember when you explained how you made the sofa, I made one following your instructions 😊
Thank you Rosanna! I looked up the sofa on my blog. That was 11 years ago 😅 Time flies! Did you get your sofa finished back then?
@@MakeMiniatures oh yes 😂it's been in the Casa Rossa since then 😁
Hello, could you coat the glass with a layer of resin to get the smooth surface and edges instead of firing it ? That way it would be the size you want without the shrinkage. UV nail lamps/torches are really cheap too and would cure the resin in minutes.
Best wishes from Yorkshire, England 😊
That would probably work. You see so many videos of people doing that in full scale. However, the look of resin just isn't the same as glass. But yes, it would be a good alternative to my tiny kiln. Maybe I'll look into getting a UV light. Thank you Diane! 😃
Beautiful glass table even in its imperfections. I’m sure you will figure it out
I hope so! Thank you Claire. 😃
Josje, I like the edge not being perfectly straight, I think that is part of the beauty of glass. It is a very contemporary and unusual piece next to the majority of your formal furnishings. It is going to be beautiful when you get the top the right length for the tubes. Could you cut the glass down to the width you want and then use the leftover to add to the length? I don't know much about working with glass.
Thank you Elisha! I could add the cut-off to the length, but you would still see where it was attached, even after firing. To make that seam disappear it would have to be fired really hot, but that will make the glass lose its shape as the glass will want to start forming a ball. Even hotter and it will start to flow, so in principle I could put it in a form. However, my kiln can't reach temperatures of around 2000F or 1100C. So, I'll have to try and find the same colour glass and try again. I'll get it right eventually. 😃
Love the colour and despite it being the blue room, this green colour is better and warmer! I thought maybe divide the glass base in 2 with about 5 x 5 in each ‘leg” with a gap in between so you can see through the glass top a bit more? Very brave to work with glass, though. It’s the one thing I’ve ruled out as it seems to me you need a lifetime of experience with a material that fickle….
Yes, it is a difficult material to work with and basically, I know nothing. 😅
And as I don't work with it very often, with long periods in between, I often forget what I've done, even though I try to write down my experiments. But it is fun and sometimes beautiful pieces come out.
I quite liked the simplicity of one block of the glass rods and that you can see them underneath the glass top. It feels balanced to me. Ideally, I would have lots of material and try out many different forms and compositions. I could do a whole design process on paper of course...😃
Great video with a lot of info of glass. Found out there's such a thing as a microwave kiln? New to me. Thanks.
I don't know exactly how that works, I have a normal kiln. But yes, apparently there is something like that. Glass is a beautiful and interesting material, but can be difficult to work with and often is a bit out of scale unless it is used for lampwork. I've never done any lampwork, but it would be cool to learn a bit about the technique. 😃
LOve this room, it looks so inviting.
Thank you! It is a favourite of mine 😃
It’s still beautiful, as it is, but I have no doubt at all that you will get this table exactly how you want it. The colours in this room are simply gorgeous. New subscriber & enjoying your videos. (Not David …. Wife of David)
Oh thank you so much! And welcome! 😃
Table idea is cool!
Thank you! 😃
Using a clutch of skinny glass tubes as a support for your glass top coffee table was such a clever idea! You've constructed a one of a kind Modern Art piece that goes so well with the room and with the 2 new contemporary floral paintings on the walls! And I Love the organic shape of the silver dish on display as well.
Do you have plans to fill in the "L" junction between the sofas with an additional piece of furniture or leave that corner void?
Thank you Elizabeth! The silver dish is a miniature version (made by Jens Torp) of Georg Jensen's silver Henning Koppel Wave Bowl (ca. 1948).
I don't know whether I'll do something with that space between the sofas. I like it empty as it seems to balance the space on the other side of the room. But who knows. The sofas were designed to be pushed together but have been turned around and I quite like them this way. But again, who knows, I may change things around again in the future. Isn't that what happens in most interiors? 😉
Very pretty glass. 😊
Thank you Tara! I love the depth of colour of glass. 😃
The glass tubes look like pipettes they use in labs to transfer small amounts of blood or liquid matter to do testing.
They could well be! But the ends did have a silver-coloured glaze or paint on them which stayed on when I washed them. I don't think pipettes would have that. But pipettes or other small medical glassware could be great to use for miniature projects. I've been thinking chandeliers would be cool too. 😃
