- Miniaturist Journal 102. I'm answering more questions from viewers because I didn't get to all of them inthe Q&A of my previous vlog. Questions about insurance, future-proof materials and modern miniatures for instance.

Things go bump in the night! Miniature mysteries. Thanks Josje. J
They certainly do here! 😃
"Visiting" you, Josje, is such a pleasure. I relax while getting both information and the 'eye candy' of seeing your stunning houses and miniatures. I am a fan of the Bauhaus movement, which is elegant and is true modern historically, but current contemporary furniture with simple lines has a lot to offer. I also like Shaker style which is timeless.
Thank you! Ah yes, Bauhaus. Gropius of course and so many famous artists of the time. In the Netherlands we have "De Stijl', with Mondriaan and Rietveld probably internationally the most famous artists. 😃
Did you ever do a Bauhaus project in miniature?
I would also like to add that the temporary Wax and tack we use to hold miniatures in place can stain miniatures. I have seen very expensive pieces of furniture ruined because there’s checkmarks on the top from the oils. I don’t use it at all. I had a $500 hand crafted table someone gave me that had marks everywhere they had the wax. I could not get them off. It was a ruined table. Best, Dale
That's very true! I inherited a chest of drawers from a friend and had big stains on the top from old, dried temporary wax. I managed to clean it up quite well, but there is still a shadow left on the top. I found out while I was cleaning it that the chest was made by Barry Hipwell...
I'll mention it on my next vlog. Thanks for the reminder Dale! 😃
Oh, I hope you find your little silver piece! Your houses are quite stunning and I love your videos. Your voice reminds me of my aunt's voice which is a plus! ❤
Thank you, I hope so too! I'm glad to hear you've got a positive association with my voice 😃
🎉it's the fairies 🧚♀️ lol x
It must be them! No other explanation. 😃
@@MakeMiniatures hehe such naughty 🧚♀️ fairies 🧚♀️ x
I love your peices and your exquisite rooms.
Thank you so much! 😃
Thank you, Josje and the kind miniaturist who have answered my question about glues, I will give the Gutermanns fabric glue a try if I can find it here in Australia. I never tire of looking at the close-ups of your dollhouse. The domestic details really show it is lived in, the half made bed and empty toilet roll as well as the dried up flowers make it so ‘real’. Your talents extend beyond making the miniature pieces, the arrangement of objects to create a complete picture is also a great accomplishment. 👏
Thank you so much Coby!
I forgot about the Gütermann fabric glue. I have it but I rarely use it. I just looked at it and it says it is solvent-free. Not sure what that means in terms of fabric preservation, but I'm sure it's something good 😉
It was Idske who answered that question for you 😃
Hello, it looks like there's something in the coal scuttle, real flowers are always gorgeous no matter how big or small, I saw the short you posted with the vases of flowers they were beautiful, Thank you for answering my question. Best wishes from Yorkshire
My pleasure Diane. The simple answer to your question was 'Yes' 😉
I looked in the coal scuttle, nothing but coal I'm afraid. I'm going to cut open the vacuum cleaner bag! 😃
Hi . Love your videos, im amazed every time i watch. You have such beautiful treasures. I watch over & over as i want to see everything ❤ looking forward to your next one.. by for now from me in the uk..xx
Thank you so much! 😃 🌞
I haven't seen all the rooms you showed on this video - they are amazing! The bedroom with the papered walls (and doors!), wow! The floors are particularly wonderful, I I will look back through your videos to see if you're already covered how you make them - if not that could be a future video! Again, thanks for sharing.
Our vacuum cleaners become the monsters in the closet when searching for our missing tiny treasures! 😱
Yes, real ones! 😅
You can put a hose ( stocking0 over the nozzle so that when you pick up a mini from the floor, it will not get sucked in.
I dehydrated natural flowers in my ninja foodie for the dollhouses. They keep their color, but don't need water.
That's a great idea! I don't have one but maybe one day...😃
@@MakeMiniatures I love my foodie. It's great for cooking too. Lol
🎉very interesting hun thanks for sharing 🎉😊
You are so welcome
Thank you, Josje, once again, a great informative video, love it! P.S. Hope, you find the runaway silver piece.
Thank you Urbania! I will look for the silver piece tonight.
Thank you so much for answering my question! I’m already forward to seeing you set a dining room table when you get one. And I would like to live in that pink bedroom! I am crazy about toile. It is such a treat to be able to see so many of your beautiful rooms! I like to pause the video and zoom in on the tiny beautiful perfect details. I hope you find your little silver piece!
You are so welcome! I like toile too. To me, these always seem like fitting patterns for a bedroom. Thank you Jen! 😃
PS: Have a wonderful time at the Kensington fair this weekend! Unfortunately I won't be there...
Thank you!
You're welcome! 😃
Loved the fresh flowers. I was hoping someone could identify them. J
It was a hawthorn tree!
They're lovely, aren't they? Yes, hawthorn! By the look of the leaves and the thorns I vaguely knew it was hawthorn, the name just escaped me. It is the base onto which my medlar tree is grafted. I have another one in the back with single white flowers. I had never seen this one in flower before as I usually cut back any branches sprouting from the stem. This one, with the profusion of dark pink double flowers, reminds me so much of miniature roses! No surprise then when I read that they are a species in the Rosaceae family. 😃
🎉I love your pink room🎉
Thank you Dorothy! All inspired by the wallpaper colour. 😃
@@MakeMiniatures it's lovely 😍
Love seeing more of your collection! Wondered what the tea caddy is made of in the sitting room next to the bouquet in the glass vase. I wondered if that was painted or actually a type of wood….
About glue and other problems, I’ve had a few disasters that took years to ‘develop’. One was with a chair/sofa I had used a foam layer between the fabric and wooden frame. It took a while before I understood what these odd crumbs were, I was afraid mice had been there, although there weren’t any droppings. I see these things as ‘time for something else’ and as you do improve over the years, that is not a bad thing!
In terms of glues, I have at least 10-12 different glues and will probably add some more for quite specific things. I have several PVA type glues including Aleens tacky glue, but also faster curing and slower curing ones and it just depends on what you need it for. About gluing silk, the only glue I’ve found that does not stain, does not come through the fabric and holds up for about 5 years now, is Gutermann fabric glue. It smells like UHU glue in a similar type of tube, but it’s thicker and a whole lot more expensive, but at least a tube lasts a very long time.
I think and hope there will be more and more modern miniatures also because there are cheaper 3D printers available and also nail art is useful in that respect. Queen City Minis uses both and she has a lot of fantastic videos.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I have also found that the foam used in bought furniture perishes after a few years and crumbles to dust. Tacky Wax does leave a greasy residue after a few years but I have read that Museum wax does not….haven’t been able to find any of this though.
The tea caddy is painted to simulate tortoise shell. It was made by John Hodgson. The silver was by Jens Torp of course.
Oh yes, the foam! It will crumble. If not in 5 years time, then in 10 or 30 years. But crumble it will!
I forgot about the Gütermann fabric glue. I have it but rarely use it as I keep it with my 'real' sewing stuff. 😉
Yes, I agree there will be more modern miniatures due to the easy access to 3D printers. In the past few years, I've bought small, fun, modern pieces from several sellers who produce 3D-printed miniatures. I must say though, that along with some great designs, there is also an enormous amount of cr*p flooding the market. It's one of the reasons I rarely go onto Etsy or eBay etc. (unless I know of a specific seller) because of the endless junk you have to weed through before you find something half decent.
Thanks Idske! 😃
I've read that museum wax will also leave some residue on wooden furniture, unless it is completely sealed. Tacky wax is one of them. Great for surfaces that are completely sealed though.
I'd love to see more dollhouse styles between 1940 and 1970.
Yes, that's an interesting time period. Lots happening which was reflected in the interiors! And some interesting building styles developed as well. My childhood dollhouse was from the 60's, but that's a plastic one. 😃
Little Bits and Pieces by Julie channel here on YT is doing a 1940s dollhouse
Could the silver item have fallen into the flowers into the water? Thank you for showing your beautiful things🤩 The pink flowers are from a form of hawthorn, or May blossom, I think😊
Yes! You're right, hawthorn! I just couldn't remember what that tree/bush was. They used it to graft my medlar tree onto. It keeps sprouting and I often cut it back, but I've never seen it flower before. Very pretty.
The silver item is not in the flower's water, unfortunately.
I hope to find it yet. Thank you! 😃
Josje, you have some beautiful minis in your collection. I'd love to know where you got the blanket draped over the furniture at the end of this video (with the laptop on it) or what fabric you used to make it. It looks so warm and cozy. Thanks for sharing.
Hello Tina, I made the draped blanket from silk velvet (which I bought to make a scarf years ago). It's a gorgeous fabric with a beautiful sheen, very soft and drapes well. It's one of those fabrics you want to touch all the time, so soft! 😃
Thanks so much.
I love your doll houses I wouldn't mind having a piece of your furniture foreign exchange of one of mines or something one day and stuff it's beautiful
Thank you so much Jules! Well, who knows, we might do a huge swap in the future 😉 At the moment I think I'd have a hard time letting go of these pieces. 😃
🎉daylight is damaging aswell as dampness🎉
Yes, very much so! 👍
Hi, i used to have an etsy shop but due to their taking my money for weeks i hadto close. I used to sell modern and antique style furniture and accessories. Ivd yet to find a decent site to sell. Thanks xxx
Etsy are pretty awful. I use them for European orders but otherwise I just sell direct to customers now.
Well I'm no help to you here. I don't sell anything so I don't have experience in that field. I've heard several negative stories about Etsy though. Such a shame, because the idea of a platform for selling only handmade items is good. I hope you find another way of selling your items! 😃
I can not believe you printed the toile fabric! Wow. It's just gorgeous. 💕🩷 I still say you have a tiny dollhouse mouse who scampers at night and knocks things over.😊🐀
Thank you Vicki! Or a couple of mice set up home in my dolls house, à la Beatrix Potter's story. 😃
@@MakeMiniatures Yes, possibly.🐀🐀😄
