This song strongly influenced Get Right Back Where We Started From, a year later. Painfully obvious. Nosmo here looks like Gilligan from Gilligan's Island😂.
Nosmo King and the other writer of this song got a nice pay off after Maxine Nightingale's very similar 'Right Back where we started from' hit the Top Ten in 1975, settling the issue out of court.
@@Jamomail What was the story behind the name then? I always assumed it meant 'No Smoking', but as someone else points out, there was another Nosmo before you in the 50s. Did the label/publishing company/producers decide to name you directly after him, and if so, what was the reasoning behind that? Or was it just a random thing?
No, this was written by Nosmo and someone with the strange surname of Doctors, according to the record label. A brand new song in November 1974 which became a Soul Classic.
Don't remember this one at all but it got to No. 26 in the UK charts. Supposed to be Northern Soul but it sounds more like a pop song to me,.... tbh... it's quite ordinary - mystery how it ever charted.
I remember this first time around; I rediscovered it about a year ago and really like it!
Great chorus, it has stuck in my head all this time.
What a cracking tune love it
I was only five when this was a hit here in Britain in 1974, and I loved the song.
Can TOTALLY hear the influence on the awesome song "Right Back Where We Started From" Maxine Nightingale....This is a nice template...

Now you have to be of a certain age to remember that. I unfortunately am, and do.
Northern soul music classic
Behave, it's manufactured shite.
But by Maxine nightingale bro

Only found out about this a couple of weeks ago - classic!!
Sounds like right back to where we started from
Yes, but it was released a year older. Nosmo and his co writer of the song got a nice pay off from the producers of Maxine Nightingale's soundalike.
Correction, earlier. This was 1974, Maxine Nightingale's song was 1975.
Still keeping the faith.
It's pop music, never Northern Soul!
@@lennylaa1686correct . It’s bobbins .
Wonderful!
Fifth form classic! And I'm not even from the North!
This song sucked many kids into NS ,it is a perfect song to dance to and the Javells have great voices
I remember this 😀🕺🏻
I know his brother, Nopar King
Guy Mortlock 😂
What about his Uncle, Nowan?🤔
@@alanarscott Or voyeur sister, Pea King?
timeless
Top Tune, great record, what memories.
Must admit, I never heard this on the radio at all.
The name "Nosmo King" was actually coined by Russ Winstanley & Richard Searling they took from a sign on the studio wall...... NO SMOKING
No it wasn't !
@@Jamomail LOL! You were singing it! haha. Man in the hat.
Found you on cat45! Now gonna check your other release.

@@Wyngardian Just a random thing. Only found out about original NK after our record was released
@@Jamomail I wonder if Engelbert Humperdinck aka Jerry Dorsey knew about the original musician to bear his name?
Wigan casino patch on his hat.
the first Nosmo King was a music hall variety artist called Vernon Watson. He died in 1952!
Vernon Watson died in 1949.
@@MiguelSerrano19-57 Sorry I got the year wrong - but I love the name being a sign from the theatre/cinema - no smoking!
Fantastic song. Why is it never played on the radio?
They play Maxine Nightingale instead
Was never on in 1974 either. Most of my friends heard it in discos.
Ah. Just caught the end of that clip. If Jimmy Savile was presenting, it'll never be heard again.
I was under the impression this was a USA rerelease from the sixties. As I didn't think Pye Disco Demand put out new releases at that time.

Gilligan !!!!
Stephen Jameson ex The Truth
Is that Gilligan?

The song might sound like a 1970s Eurovision entry, but it's a catchy pop song.
Like a lot of the songs played loud at the Casino, it sounded completely different at the anniversary all nighter. Monster.
Everything that was crap about the Casino and Russ Winstanley.😟
There was some great music in the 70s - this isn't that! Total garbage!
