I was 15 years young in 1968 and listened to a lot of BBC and BFBS radio shows here in Berlin, a year with great musicians and their hits, thank you very much for your videos😊
Yes, I saw the Archies cartoon in 1969 and bought the record. I didn't notice I was seeing it in black & white because in 1969 everything was! We didn't have colour t.v. in our house until the mid-1970s. (I'm pleased to see this has not been colorized.)
Was anything actually proven against him? we were promised the truth and that never happened all the TV docs since just so old clips of him with no meat on the bone.
@@Comfortzone99well I read a news report that qouted from an official report. It was a Daily Mail newspaper report and usually I won't think much but they were using a lot of direct quotes from the report. Now unless the many many people interviewed and questioned for the report are lying, which I extremely doubt, due to the numbers involved, I think it is alas true. Shame but it happened and can't be undone. This episode is good.
i remember seeing The Archies on TOTP and it really annoyed me we couldnt see the full episodes. Sugar Sugar is a song I hate because of that to this day!
The Pan's People routine is actually Chicago, I'm A man from Jan 1970, there is a clip of the Archies Sugar Sugar but a cameraman spent way too much time zooming in on an audience dancer and was not used in the programme
I was about 9 when this was shown, I probably watched it with my parents and elder brother. The diversity of music genres at the time was quite impressive! BTW, was this originally broadcast in colour? ...mind you, not all of us had a colour TV at the time.
My coffee bar year, the two most poplar jukebox records were Call Me Number 1, The Tremeloes and The Liquidator. Harry J & The All Stars. Biggest mistake the Monkees ever made - turning down Sugar Sugar. Davy Jones would have been perfect on lead vocal.
This is well put together. I just wondered if the audio used all the same versions as featured on that show as I am aware some band's re-recorded their backing tracks or did live vocals. Some did, of course switch tapes, as you say. Actually, the more I hear, the more i releiase it isn't as the audio is too good. I find the Top of the Pops Orchestra fascinating.
Occasionally I will leave the TOTP performance intact if it differs significantly from the released version, but for this episode all the songs were replaced to improve the sound quality.
When I first went to the UK in 1980 I first saw Jimmy Savill on Top of the Pops. He revolted me from first sight and I didn't even know a thing about his predatory ways. Just looking at him made me feel ill.
Ignore the fact that saville introduces the program. It's the quality of the music THAT counts. Saville was evil and it's history now , but just listen to the music and the bands.
This was before a bourgeois criminal named Robin Nash was allowed to get his grubby hands on TOTP, & declared MUSICIANS (especially SERIOUS ones) to be "undesirables" & that TOTP was "bubble gum fun show" for kids. Enter The Wombles, Gary Glitter, Barry Blue, Alvin Stardust, Bay City Rollers, etc etc.
I can never tire of hearing and seeing 'oh well ', that Peter Green was a guitar genius. ❤
Jimmy Saville is one of the worsts pedophiles in modern history
@markgreen2238 and Danny Kirwan ..
Danny Kirwin played most of the lead parts.
Two of the greatest Songs of all time!
„He ain‘t Heavy…“ and „Oh well“
The best version of Fleetwood Mac I reckon.
The real Fleetwood Mac.
definitely more please!

The Hollies, Tremeloes and Fleetwood Mac. Perfect
Brilliant. I turned fifteen that very day. Great memories.
Happy 70th birthday!
I was 14. Remember every track.
I was 13 "Oh Well" by Fleetwood Mac was the first single I ever bought. I still have it.
These are absolutely brilliant. Keep them coming! The photo of Jimmy Savile in the cake hat is something I haven’t seen before 👍
Excellent. Thanks for this - the tunes from Mr Sarstedt and The Trems in particular were good as well as The Hollies' classic number.
Wow - some great tracks!
Love "Sugar Sugar"! Great song and cartoon Archies! :) Awesome!
Excellent job !
I still have the Peter Sarstedt album this track was taken from. God I’m old!
No you're not!
I liked some of his stuff but my wife hated him for some reason.
First time seeing that Peter Sarstedt track, great lineups 👍
Fantastic
"Taking the cake to a children's hospital" Monster.
Was anything actually proven against him? we were promised the truth and that never happened all the TV docs since just so old clips of him with no meat on the bone.
Yes, I shivered a bit when I heard that line too. Pity because the music in this episode is great.

One of the best concerts I ever saw was a Hollies concert
more please!!
The Archies weren't s
a group. It was just one man 👨 🧔 🎉❤

Where do you go to my lovely?...one of my alltime faves!
Hello there. You do realise that Peter Sarsted doesn’t sing ‘Where do you go to’ in this programme? 😅
" as it 'appens, now then, now then, 'ows about "
Andi forever opens the show!
Yes! Lovely Andi.
Thanks for sharing, great episode, jimmy as always entertaining

Colour from 1970 I think, bbc2 from 68
Episode 304 (27th November 1969) was the first colour episode of Top of the Pops. I'll be posting a reconstruction of that soon... ;-)

My dad would tolerate totp up to the end of the pans people appearances.
Neither Pans People nor Legs & Co did anything for me
Very young Pans People!

The Archies were cartoon characters now we are inundated with them Boyszone, Westlife, U2, one direction and the most unbelievable Take that etc.
I think the Monkees were the first boy band, but they were a lot better than some of the ones who came after them.
@@TreviscoeAnother manufactured band at the time was The Partridge Family, featuring David Cassidy.
U2?
Savile off to a children's hospital after this gives me the chills
I absolutely agree. The worst of pedophiles. Should be kept off all platforms. Not seen, I believe on British tv. Died before he was convicted
You here for that or the music? Must be obsessed
This is the best video quality of the Pan's People doing this performance. Oddly enough however the video quality of the rest of the show sucks.
Pans People and return to Django . LOL. Choreography by some 50 year old with no idea.
When I first went to the UK in 1980 I first saw Jimmy Savill on Top of the Pops. He revolted me from first sight and I didn't even know a thing about his predatory ways. Just looking at him made me feel ill.
Enjoy the music, forget him.
Must we have Saville on this
Must we. Have you
What do you suggest. It is what it is. You could watch something else or simply accept that the turd actually presented the show. Choice is amazing.
Jimmy ❤ national treasure, touched so many lives

Not condoning what he did, but he did raise lots of money for charity.
This episode didn’t age well especially with jimmy saville
Obsessed much. Enjoy the friggin music
