    So happy you guys are enjoying this video! ❤I wanted to quickly mention that I know not all of you will be living in places that have 4 different seasons, and in those cases I'd recommend focusing more on the overall expression of your wardrobe. You can try and rotate some items every 3-4 months to shake things up instead and make your wardrobe feel fresh and updated, so you still get that capsule wardrobe "feeling". Just an idea to try it out if you're interested!🥰Signe xx

    thank you for explaining about what doesn't count in capsule wardrobe! because i always wondered why people that speak about capsule/minimal wardrobes forget to tell us about pajamas, clothes that you wear at home, stuff that you dye your hair or do any other "dirty work" in

    "Slowly as I started making peace with my wardrobe, I started making peace with myself and my life...." I so relate to this! It is often hard to explain to others how life-changing it is, but the reason it is so transformative is because it isn't about the clothes per se; it is about habits, intentionality, and an understanding and acceptance of oneself. Hearing you describe your experience helped me to finally articulate this amazing process!

    I’m currently tracking what I wear each day because 1) I’m not sure if I’m keeping things just to keep them, 2) I’m not sure what items go in each season and 3) I want to track my cost per wear for a bit. I’m really thankful for channels like yours as it help me to refrain from shopping.

    I came back to this old goodie and once again: I love that you produce content that is well thought through, intelligent (not just throwing buzz words here and there, but actually explaining their origin and meaning) and so beautiful and inspiring. 💜

    Excellent content and so well presented! I have really been struggling lately with myself because I went on a large declutter spree early on in my journey, doing away with many items I wasn’t wearing… But that absolutely fit my current style. On a couple of occasions… I hate to admit, I actually went out to the thrift and consignment stores I gave those items to try to find them back! Of course I didn’t, because they were really great pieces and I’m sure they made someone happy! I am now being much more careful and taking time to put things aside. It was actually a struggle for me to keep a maybe box because I knew they were things that were just being stored and not used. All of these minimalist/capsule wardrobe videos I watched in the past did not validate doing this and instead made me feel a little guilty of keeping things to the side. Not doing so DOES result in major decluttering regret. I strongly advocate for having a maybe pile and storing things away that maybe just don’t speak you in the current season.
    I also think that writing down the pieces you decluttered and why including your thoughts around them is very important for future purchases. If you find yourself considering a purchase of a very similar item, you can go back and evaluate why you declared it in the first place and look at your thoughts around it.

      @iuli3se 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Many of the minimalist/capsule wardrobe videos promoted throwing away / decluttering 90% of your wardrobe. And that was in the end and on the long run absolutely counterproductive, like in the case of the comment above. Or because people who did this, then really went back shopping because it did not fit their lifestyle to own that little amount of clothing.
      One cannot get to be a minimalist over night, it‘s a process. And each person then gets to have a different style or kind of minimalism. It‘s not about having just 20 pcs of clothing, it‘s not about a number. Because each person is different. I think it should be more of being conscious of the belongings and getting rid of the truly unnecessary. But then again, what would be the definition of necessary. It is again a very individual thing, and there is no 100% correct way for everyone

      What a great idea, writing down why an item was donated! I took pictures of myself wearing certain donated items for just that purpose but I love the idea of also detailing why not to re-buy certain types of garments when a picture doesn't necessarily capture that!

    This is so visually calming and immensely helpful!
    After trying capsule wardrobing for about 4-5 years, I’ve landed on a system that works for me: I use about 3 capsule wardrobes interchangeably. It amounts probably to an intentional year-round capsule. This works for my extreme seasonal climate, my lifestyle with 4 kids, and fluctuating body weight. The 3 capsules each have a distinct style and I use them interchangeably which gives me a personal style that I love. I have a color palette that I stick to and it helps avoid purchases that don’t match. My color palette mostly consists of Sage green/ olive green, Khaki, Cream/Beige, Grey, Mauve, Salmon-peach. And Navy & Cranberry in the winter.

      How do you navigate fluctuations in weight with your capsule wardrobe and keeping or getting rid of items?

    • @christiana_mandalynn
      @christiana_mandalynn ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@erinpompa I have a couple bins in my closet/under the bed that I use for my Larger size and things that I am not ready to let go of yet (smaller size). I only keep what fits me hanging in my closet. I revisit the bins when I rotate my Warm weather and Cold weather clothing, and see if there’s anything that no longer suits my tastes or I am ready to let go of. Lots of things I don’t want to get rid of, but they don’t fit me either so I put them away nicely. Then later I can re-assess if it’s worth my hanging onto it, or if I can find something better to fit in the meantime, or it I would probably not wear a specific item even if I gained more weight.
      I also try to be realistic about my lifestyle and if a “dream item” is actually useful with my current lifestyle. For instance, I have a blouse that I love that is for breastfeeding, but since I am not nursing right now, it fits me weird and is too saggy. I put it away because I don’t want to part with it yet, but it doesn’t fit me. Vice versa, I have a dress that I’ve been hanging on to that has too short of a hemline for my lifestyle as a mom. And let’s face it, I’m not really going to wear a cocktail dress anytime soon… I’ll be parting with it, but I am not quite ready yet, so into the bin it goes.
      It’s kind of an ongoing process. I keep a size Up ⬆️ and a size Down, and I pay attention to what I’m not reaching for anymore. I try not to keep too much in the bins, and mostly wear what I fit in currently, but of course there are those items that are lifesavers for days when you are feeling hormonal, bloated, etc.
      I don’t really wear jeans, so waistbands are easier for me in stretch cotton (eg, jeggings) or comfy skirts or dresses that allow for weight fluctuations. I really like skirts with elastic waistbands, and dresses by Lands End (I thrifted mine).

    Well said & lovely presentation ! As a baby-boomer , I grew up w/ " coordinates " - being able to mix 'n match & wear key pieces in multiple combinations . First consideration was quality , then asking how many ways & how many times will I wear each piece . In Illinois ( US ) we have four seasons , which seem to overlap or bounce back & forth , which is an interesting challenge . Thankful for today's fabrics that are easier to layer !

    I find that getting rid of clothes that are out of style just leads me to re-buying them again years later so I don't do "true" capsule wardrobes. Instead I just put the stuff I'm more likely to wear that season front and centre. I also get bored easily, so mid-season it allows me to grab an item from the "haven't worn in quite a while" area and feel like I got something new again.

    I started with seasonal capsule wardrobes in 2004. In 2013 I discovered Project 333 and paired my capsule wardrobes down even further.
    Now I keep a simple minimal wardrobe that sees me through all 4 seasons (cold climate) with the use of strategic layering and mostly vintage pieces. I rarely shop and, when I do, I go second hand. My wardrobe is not typical. I don't wear shorts or jeans or tshirts or anything white. My work wardrobe is slacks, blazers, blouses and skirts. My casual wardrobe is skirts, button ups, camisoles/tank tops, cargo pants & sweaters.

    Living in Iceland makes storing away off-seasonal clothing a tad more complicated. We can have all four seasons in one day even in summer. 😂 However, I do try to pack away really heavy woollen jumpers/thin summer dresses, mostly having to drag some out at a point, though. 🙄😑 So, I could argue that I have an extensive all year capsule wardrobe, right? Yes! (This is me trying to convince myself, and not be a wee bit jealous of others having actual four seasons in a year...)
    Brilliant video, Signe. ❤

      I am in MA, USA, and what you describe, is us, too!
      But I am not yet even having the 4 seasons clothing!

      I am looking forward though, to 'always having something to wear' again.

      I do the same thing as we have the same problem where I live! (Or at least I try and convince myself like you do 😂😂) The actually weather is all over the place and so are the indoor "climates" 😂 It's not uncommon to see me in a super light, flowly dress in the summer with a cashmere turtleneck jumper over top and thick winter tights because my office is only 15 degrees while it's +35 outside 🙄 I still try to store off-season colours (kind of... haha).
