  • The Full Crew is BACK in studio for Door Bumper Clear after NASCAR’s West coast swing to recap the race in Phoenix. After hearing solid criticism for short track package, the group discusses what makes Phoenix Raceway unique, and it’s not just the royal treatment for spotters. They urge fans to take Phoenix for what it is, but do wonder if the Championship race should find a home elsewhere. Are the tires to blame for drivers having a hard time passing? They then chat about Austin Dillon’s bad luck, and the consistency of cautions. The crew debates about Toyota’s dominance leading all but 14 laps of the Phoenix race, and if Toyota is the favorite headed into Bristol. Prepare to laugh in reaction theater where callers don’t hold back their feelings about saving the teams money, and don’t forget to call in and leave a message for next week’s episode: (704) 802-9572.

I said this on Denny’s video, there was some good racing but we couldn’t see it. Gibbs’ onboard cam showed Bell chase him down which was dope and really showed the rocket he had under the hood. Now what they really need to do is make these onboard videos available on YT!

To TJ's point at 1:05:10 there was fast cars and pit stops and different strategies, Bell chasing down Gibbs, there was plenty of action but none of it was hyped or pointed out by t.v. Everyone is quick to focus on the product but sometimes it truly is the packaging

There's 2 reasons why the championship race is at Phoenix... 1) Phoenix did all those upgrades that cost so much and they need all the revenue from the championship race and that's the only way they can make it back in a timely manner. 2) the championship race is in the desert so no risk of the race being washed out for a day or 2

I think a lot of the problem is most fans think every race should be side by side with a finish like Atlanta every week. Hell I’d love to have that too. Realistically with circumstances etc it’s unrealistic.
When there’s a horrible race the blame always goes to NASCAR which I’m happy they listen and try to make changes to help.
There’s always gonna be races that are just snoozefests. Throughout the history of the sport there’s always been boring races. Just part of it.

I hate that the championship race is at Phoenix. Its crazy to me that places like dover and pocono only get 1 race a year but phoenix gets 2 and one of them decides our champion. I like the playoffs system points wise but the whole "rounds" thing is dumb. Just make it 16 drivers and whoever has the most points at the end wins. Crowing a champion bc you happen they have a good Phoenix set up that season is silly

I commented yesterday on Phoenix and how it sucks. What I didn’t say is the should not go to Phoenix. I think the vast majority of us, just do not want to go there for our championship battle. That what sucks. You watch this race and realize that the championship battle will just be a shit show. Move the Championship NASCAR!!

There's been a huge bump in TV ratings for the first 3 races.....get ready for what will soon be known as "The Phoenix Ratings Drop." If race coverage has trouble keeping a multiple decades NASCAR fan interested, you know the newbies pulled out their phones to watch something else......Can't wait for the Championship race to get lower ratings than last year.

One point made in the article you covered about Andretti and Penske is that one of the owners of the Juncos/Hollinger entry is also in there talking about how when he approached Penske about these concerns Roger seemed like his priority was the Indy 500. Which is great because it's the biggest race in the world, but the whole series needs attention and the rest of the races need to be promoted more. I think his point about getting off the plane when F1 is in town and it being everywhere vs IndyCar being nowhere in terms of visibility to the general public is pretty strong.
I dont think IndyCar has any stars, just like NASCAR doesn't, in that nobody is a household name to people who aren't watching. But I will say I look down the starting lineup or the championship rankings at any given point and see nothing but exciting names, a good number of which have a real shot of blowing everyone away on any given weekend and making a statement. I think because there's no playoff reset, and the season is much shorter, everything is just more intense and meaningful in IndyCar. As a racing fan that series even when they run lame street courses is far more exciting and interesting to watch. I don't look at the lineup or standings for NASCAR and get the same excitement from just the list of names.

The problem is still the integrity of those low profile tires and wheels on a 34, 00LB race car on a banked turn!
That's why NASCAR had to DUMBDOWN to 550 package! You go taller on that sidewall, you'd have a completely different series and the racing would be amazing!

I was at the race yesterday, i didnt think it was terrible, stage 1 was pretty exciting and gave me hope with ty, denny reddick and hamlin battling it out. Stage 3 ran long and became a strategy race but you definitely could pass, i watched the 20, 17, 6 and 12 make many passes moving up, from being there the fords and the toyotas were the best at passing. The track venue itself from a fan perspective is top notch, facility and infield are game changers. I think just a couple more tweets to the package phoenix could have some potential

Agree on the status of the HMS drivers. It’s great to see 5 and 24 good, but where is the help for the 9 and 48? Do they need a personnel change? More sports psych or training? I feel like they’re letting those two start falling through the cracks

Just seems like everyone in the media just counts on the 9 getting better. I don’t think that’s really gonna happen.
Last year when he came back, I thought he would be good after a few races, and I was surprised the team didn’t get better.
I don’t get it either. Same with the 88. They were decent the beginning of the year last year and then they fall off.

As a Phoenix raceway season ticket holder. I agree that the championship would be more fun at a different track. But with that being said the race is still fun, great fan experience and deserves 2 races a year.
If it's not Phoenix going forward I would prefer having the championship race at Darlington, Homestead or Charlotte. Maybe have the championship race rotate between those 4 tracks.

We definitely have to be careful as fans not to gripe on boring races too much. The constant complaining about racing or points being uneventful is what lead NASCAR to do stuff like playoff formats and phantom cautions. This wasn’t an eventful race, but it also wasn’t a gimmicky race. I’d much rather prefer this kind of race over something like the 2022 All-Star race any day

I normally watch the race replays once they come out because I don’t have time on Sundays to watch live. Normally I skip the phoenix replay and the New Hampshire replay and just watch the highlights. I legitimately fell asleep while watching the RACE HIGHLIGHTS from phoenix this weekend. We wonder why nascar popularity is on the decline and a major reason is because we have a very dull championship finale with drivers who are very PR friendly with less and less personality.

First of all, there should not be a single race to decide the championship, they should work it down to 4 drivers, and then have 3 races to decide the championship! That said, Phoenix should never be part of who wins the championship. NASCAR has thrown BS cautions for many years.

The hate on Phoenix has gone too far! I can easily name 9 tracks that I prefer to watch less: road courses, New Hampshire, Gateway, Martinsville. Looks like there are only a handful of teams who've figured out a set up that allows them to pass, everyone else just complains. So sure let's go back to a 1.5 mile Championship track. 5 years ago everyone hated all the 1.5 miles, we've now come full circle.

Did Kraft miss the 45 moving through the field on the last run? He restarted 14th, peaked at 6th, lost his handle, and faded. The 12 restarted 15th and finished 5th. The cars that hit the setup could move.

I saw passing all day. The high line and low line both worked.
I saw the leader come from 20th to 1st in just the last stage.
    I saw 5 wide restarts.
I saw side by side racing.
I saw tire wear, Ty Gibbs was crazy fast if the shoet run and fell off
I saw guys spinning I thier own
Honestly, I've been watching for 30+ years this is Nascar, what the fuck do you want? A wreckfest? Phantom cautions?
Go watch a race for anytime in the 2000s go watch single file racing
Honestly there's no making some people happy.... It's just stupidity at this point.

We need MORE HORSEPOWER to make these races worth watching. It’s not the track. If you can go five wide, and you race single file. Truex proved the issue, hypermiling and not racing to save gas is what’s killing things. If everyone is conserving all the way to the flag, no one’s racing. That’s how Truex passed the leaders and almost caught up again. He want conserving anymore. So if everyone’s conserving, that’s the issue

I’m sorry but Phoenix has been a joke for a long time. This car isn’t designed for a flat track. It’s too damn good. The only way to make the short/ flat track package better is make the tires narrower and reduce the braking power. Guess what there goes handling with out having to play with the engine cause one manufacturer doesn’t want more power.

I guess some people have a good opinion short tracks are killing t.v. time take a break until Talladega or Texas or even the next race in Austin. It's an intermediate and superspeedway series with less road course races and no street course put the Bush Shootout back in Daytona no more statuims and short tracks that's my point. And if NASCAR can't do that then there will be a new president coming to fix some things that are a little bit wrong with them. The Gen7 car is still good they just need to drivers stop acting like idiots when the final laps count. Return clean racing and specitcle finishes like 2022.😮

The Phoenix race was good. I seen a lot of passing and side by side racing. It's not gonna be a best race at every track Everytime. And this Phoenix race was better than past. These two clowns in hats are more of a problem for the sport with their social media NASCAR bashing

It’s not the track the car sucks, y’all beat around the bush for ever but never said it, the car sucks, 3&4 wide what more do you want, need more power. Y’all said it multiple times you start 20th and you run 20th what’s that tell you, all cars are equal, Denny explains bad ass on his pcast.

@@kevinlittrell3407 nascar was better back when it had drivers with personalities, that’s all. Dale Jr hasn’t been in nascar for 7 years and he’s still the only recognizable person associated with it. 99% of the general public couldn’t pick Ryan Blaney out of a lineup, and he’s the champion.

@@Commentleaver-c6xThere are personalities in NASCAR, they’re just not faces you grew up with. That’s the difference. Plain and simple.
As for Blaney not being as big as Jr, NASCAR just isn’t a household sport these days. It hasn’t been one for most of its existence and the late 90’s and early 00’s was a special exception.
