LIP BALM ADDICTION

  • Lip Balm Addiction
If you apply lip balm multiple times a day or panic when you don’t have chapstick on hand, you may be wondering if you’re addicted to your lip balm
Turns out that lip balms don’t contain any addicting ingredients but there are a few reasons why you may need to continually apply your lip balm:
    1. You may have formed the habit of licking your lips more often because of the flavor of your lip balm
    2. Your lip balm may contain irritating ingredients that irritate your lips making you want to apply it more often
Ingredients to avoid: Camphor, Menthol, Peppermint, Castor oil, Fragrance, Propolis
    My recommendations:
    -Vaseline original
    -CeraVe healing ointment
-Aquaphor (not their lip balm, but their regular ointment)
Finally, if that fails, consider switching your toothpaste! Many toothpastes contain ingredients that irritate the lips!

Hi I’m Elizabeth and I’m a lip balm addict… its been a 25+ year/multiple applications daily habit. About 3 years ago I was going to Disney and needed a lip balm with spf and at the store my only option was Herpicin L and it has SPF 30. Not only did this help me not to get sun burnt, but it feels more like a hard lotion than a balm, and it has not only softened my lips when I use it, But… I have been able to significantly reduce my habit from multiple times a day to every so often or only when I go out! I was embarrassed buying it at first because I didn’t want people to think I got cold sores, but I quickly realized I don’t care what people think (nor should anyone else), and it is the best lip balm I’ve ever used.

As someone who have tried out many lip balms, I can confidently say that vaseline isn't the best kind. I mostly use clear lip balms, and most of them doesn't soak into the skin it just remains there waiting to be smeared dry upon lip's contact with something and thus provide no help for the chapped skin, it felt even worse if small hard dead skin pokes out from the lips. Not to mention, application just look bland and plain on the lips as it doesn't compliment the skin at all, most also darkens the skin like some deodorants does to Armpits. While vaseline is very affordable and might work good for moisturizing certain body parts, it doesn't work best for lips. So I settled for Tender care; although not tinted, it isn't greasy or liquid-ish, even the container is small and adorable but the most important is the product. Although containing no colour the one I'm using) it makes my lips soft and pink-ish proving it's magic in moisturizing, furthermore it doesn't have any sight effects and works wonders.

It's so light and and after some time it just fades away while the lips still stay moisturized . While all the lip balms ( top brands ) I have tried always feel so dry . And after a few minutes they are wiped away and then it's back to the all moisture sucked vampire lips .
I don't know which Vaseline you use but the basic one is amazing .

Treatment ended but I didn’t stop the habit of putting it every 2-3 hours. Sometimes I wonder, did my lips permanently got dry after the medicine or I didn’t care about my lips being dry before x_x I think the second, because now everyone tells me if I did something done to my lips and that they look “juicier”. As a chronic lip picker, I can say the Vaseline is one of the worst. It doesn't soak into the lip, it just sits there waiting to be disappear when you eat. It makes my lip drier if anything.
So yes, I have been picking my lips ever since I was ~7 years old and now I'm 22. It get worse when I'm stress. I pick my lips to the point that the bloods drips down to my neck. TBH I love the pain. It's something indescribable. I think it allows me to focus on the physical pain instead of my mental pain which is stress.
Back to the main topic. I just put a punch of pawpaw Lucas ointment on (by a punch, I mean a lot, like a thick layer of the ointment). So the urge to pick the lips somewhat go away.
But regardless, lip-picking is a habit that mainly triggers by stress so no lip balms can alleviate it.

Thank you Dr. Shah, for confirming what I felt was happening all my life. I hardly ever needed lip balm-but as soon as I applied some, I couldn’t stop and never knew whyyy 😭

Labello tinted ones are the bomb. I started using them last year and my lips almost didn’t chap at all this winter which used to be a huge problem.

On both occasions when I was Accutane, my lips got severely burned. First time was because I used Vaseline at a hot and humid event. Second similar thing happened. Lip balm with SPF is MUST. Blisters on your lips are horrendous!

I love Vaseline right before bed. I like the Aquaphor Protect & Repair SPF Stick for daytime. It has virtually no sunscreen flavor (I use it every day and only very very rarely do I notice it) and a natural finish. And unlike the one in the squeezy tube, it stays on really well and doesn't slide around.

I've been addicted to lip balm since I was a teen ager. I cant leave the house without it. I have about 15 tins of Vaseline balm plus a few others scattered around my house and in my bags

I put vaseline on my lips before bed and I wake up with nice soft lips. I use the vaseline with cocoa butter.

If you got eczema, you got no choice. Vaseline clogs the pores around lip. Yep, some people have that alongside eczema.

I've heard chapstick addiction stems from replacing the normal moisturizing components your lips make naturally. Keep putting on chapstick, lips stop making natural moisturizers, then lips feel dry all the time and you end up using more chapstick....I've always thought that sounded legit😂

Storytime: I hate lip balm, but this once happened to me. My mom went to Venice for work and when she got back, she brought us presents. I saw that she bought me a Coca cola lip balm. I tried it some days later and holy shit that actually tasted like Coke. Then, I realized that they also sell them here and in other flavours. I bought a Fanta one, a Sprite, a Coke one again and I only wore them for their taste. I would carry them everywhere.
I still like this kinda of lip balm and I can easily get addicted to it, it's just that every single one I bought expired now and I haven't gone and bought any new ones 😂
