I’m 51 years old. This wouldn’t have been an unusual friendship back in the day. Especially in small town America. People are people and neighbors are neighbors. That’s the world I grew up in.

It's not that unusual now. I was 45 when my wife got cancer and died 5 years later. The most wonderful, Godly, elderly black woman (I'm so white I'm almost blue) friend across the street was the best friend I could have ever asked for.

I saw a old black man every morning at the bus stop going to school. He told me that my life was mine and it was up to me how I lived it. I'll never forget him. I'm 52 now, and I'll always be grateful to him.

@wendyparker1986 Same. Back then, things were seemingly getting better racially. Not ideal by any means but certainly making a turn for the better. I hate how we've taken so many steps backwards. I just don't understand how this happened.

Can I just say; I'm a 55 YO white man and not one day in my life was it frowned upon to be friends or even date outside my race. I know that it sometimes seems that the racial divide was always horrible. Truth be told we were solving problems and coming together until those who made big bucks to push racial division got so good at their jobs.

I've been very fortunate as I have had several of those people in my life over the years-in fact thinking about it, there have been many, -find a few, they are out there-the stories, and wisdom they can impart is amazing,it's the quiet and thoughtful ones you need, not the loud, and brash as life taught them long ago that the more you learn, the more you know how much you yet need to learn. We are all issued our ticket to the other side, and it gets punched at birth, the adventure is seeing where the journey will lead, and what we will learn along the way-every day we are granted on the way can be a blessing, but it's up to us to make it so-I think from what I see here you will have a great trip !

This song reminds me of my "Mr. Wriggly", His name was Mr. Levi, he worked on my great grandparent's land as a sharecropper as a young man, raising cattle and farming and taking care of it as it was his own because it was. When my great grand parents died they left the majority of it to his family. He lived to be about 96, outlasting my great grandparents and grandparents. He was like a great grandfather to me, always one of the smartest and funniest and wise people I ever knew. I still miss spending time with him fishing my pond and picking his brain, talking about nothing, and everything.

I grew up in the deep south. Race wasn't a conversation. I ate, lived, worked with many races without a second thought. I was equally welcomed in their homes as well. It's today's culture bringing back racism. I still talk to all my childhood friends and shake our heads about the "powers that be" tying to divide the country with lies and subterfuge. We are ALL God's children, equally.

I grew up in the south of Texas. As a child I experienced racism that at the time I didn’t even realize was racism. I was unintentionally ignorant but have learned that racism did exist heavily in the south during the 20th century up until now. However now that I’m mature I have decided to not let one time experiences over shadow my feelings on an entire race or ethnicity.

I want to tell you about my friend Mr. Roberts, "a black man" who passed away when I was very young, perhaps 8. He owned the big farm house and rental cottages at the end the road that I grew up on, in a tourist town in OOB, Maine. We were a big family. He was always so kind to us and loved us children coming around to bother him. My great-grandparents , grandparents and Mr. Roberts were friends. My grandparents told me they had been friends with Louis Armstrong. My grandfather also said he knew other famous people like Bette Davis. (all of this happened around WW II). As far as I know, Mr. Armstrong stayed at Mr. Robert's rental cottages when he played at the venues near where we lived My grandfather told me he, Mr. Roberts and Mr. Armstrong went to bars that would have them many times to have beers and play cards. I swear I am telling you what everyone I know said is true. I never met Louis Armstrong or Bette Davis to ask them about it. being only 60

when i was growing up there was an elderly man and his wife that lived behind our house. George would come outside as school was letting out, and sit on his back stoop. My mom would let me go visit with him while she was making dinner. We would visit for about a 1/2 an hour, he would ask what i learned in school. And then share stories about when he was growing up. He once taught me how to fold a hand kerchief into the shape of a mouse... something they did when he was young because store bought toys were just too expensive for most families back then. It was just a little time out of his day but it was something i looked forward to. It's not really like that anymore... people don't have time for others and no one seems to care about anyone like they used to.

Thank you to Pete Potaczek for pointing out that part of this post, about this song being based on a true story, is not true... I had read it in an article awhile back, but now, I can not find it, or any other source that backs it up, so I deleted that part of the post... I had also phrased it poorly, saying it was a true story instead of BASED on a true story, which is what I had meant to say, but didn't... Like I said earlier, since I couldn't back it up, I deleted it. I left the part that is true.

Feeling it is the point. Music can raise you up, bring you down, or just calm you. But all of those emotions are things you need to be a complete person. Its how you get in touch with how you feel about life, love and the world around you. Don't pass up listening to music because it might make you feel sad. That doesn't mean you have to listen to it immediately, but don't completely pass it by either.

I had this relationship with a Black woman as a young child. Even later I skipped school, pretending to have a stomachache, because I knew she was coming over to the house. I loved that lady and she loved me. Race relationships were actually better back then. You're too young to remember. The recent hate and division has been stirred up on purpose so we'll fight each other instead of those in power who make our lives miserable. All of us together could force them to be what they are meant to be, servants of the people who elect them and pay them. But there are those who pay more and it's THEIR will that's followed. Their will is to enslave us all.

Don't worry sweetheart, we cuss too and cry. I was in the Army in the 80's before the current storm of lies and I can tell you "we are all the same" no matter what anyone tells you.

Listen or read the words to this song and if you are a Christian you would realize how much it repudiates God's Word.

The most important point to me was, this old man lost his wife and son. That is more than enough to destroy a man. Many would have cursed a God who would let this happen. Many would begin to hate everything, everyone including his own cursed life. Many would have found some solace in a bottle of booze or packet of drugs. But not this old man. He believed. He believed there is more to life than this. He believed in God's mercy and that he would one day be with his wife and son again. He decided to keep on living. Do his best to love others anyway. Yes, even this young boy whom he shared his wisdom with. I believe, too. I believe he made the correct choice.

In the beginning of the song , Mr. Wrigley believes and at the end , Ronnie believes, too .
Ronnie Dunn was a youth pastor before he was a country star

Brooks and Dunn beautiful outrageous vocals. Dunn is pronounced like "fun". In the bible it's all about Jesus who died suffered and rose so that we could all be with Him and see our loved ones cause our life belong to Him who will raise the dead again : Believe it

God saw an ederly man who had lost his own son and had no one to pass on his life exoeriences, and He saw a young boy with no father figure in his life.
God simply put them together and let them meet each others prayers.

DONE. NOT DUNE also that gasp when you realize how lovingly inclusive this. Some of my all time best friends ate the best. I call at least of them my brothers. And the lady my lover. Were still working out how to have our happy ever after. She's in Memphis I'm in Nashville but she's the most beautiful gal I've ever seen. She and I worked to save someone to. We fell short
