Steam locos have WAY more character and charisma than diesel. I'm sure some of the engineers of that era that were around during the transition to diesel were disappointed. (but then again...there were some who were jumping for joy. running steam was a lot of work. compared to running steam, running diesels was almost like being on vacation at work) Really nice vid.

The H8 whistle was actually a shrill high pitched one.

Love those K-4’s! I pulled one out of the park in Peru Indiana one time back in 1986

I am not sure what you mean, you pulled a real K out of a park?

I am sorry I didn’t explain better. I was part of a group of volunteers who pulled C&O engine number 2789 from the park to the old C&O yard in Peru, Indiana just before the abandonment. It took a lot of effort to roll it the first inch. After it was freed up, I was able to move it with a JD 4020 tractor as long as it was perfectly flat track. We had to lay about 750’ of track through the park to connect with the CSX owned track.

Man you made that so realistic, very neat. Do they make the ones that smoke anymore?

Lewis BIG Huber , they make smoke units, but, the costs are high and demands are low. I could install smoke units if a customer wants it.
