Just a suggestion there are a lot of your video titles that interest me but its rare that I have an hour plus to invest. How about making some of these topics available in a 20 to 30 minute video. Thanks for what you do.

They’re broken up into chapters, in iOS you can double tap with two fingers and advance through chapters. I don’t know what Android people do, prolly something cooler than that.

I don't know how well a nanoVNA works with a tablet, but is plays very well with my Windows 10 laptop and an attached monitor. I can set-up the VNA with mouse clicks (rather than trying to select items on the tiny touch screen), see a large display on a 24" monitor, print SWR (or other) graphs and, best of all, get higher resolution plots (higher frequency resolution) than the nanoVNA's 101-sample screen-size allows. Sure, it is still a $50 VNA, not a $50K instrument, but for HF antenna construction it is a godsend.
On Field Day 2021 I built the ARRL HF end-fed antenna kit and used the nanoVNA to trim the antenna, moving the SWR minimums into the digital portion of the 40M and 20M bands.
When used with a laptop-attached projector, the nanoVNA becomes a great teaching tool. The entire class can see the plots.
Regarding the use of the RTL dongle on HF, as you no doubt know, there is an upconverter that will shift the HF bands up 100MHz. The RTL dongle then works pretty well as an HF receiver.

Motorola is taking Garmin's idea of position reporting (on their RINO radios, currently brand-exempted for Garmin only) and expanding it to be automated. That's much needed. Hopefully, it will allow general data transfer (i.e. APRS-type messaging, also supported on RINO), and not be restricted strictly to position reporting only.

Fun fact, SOME Chromebooks also run and have access to the Android app store. This includes a keyboard and a full size USB standard. They are about the same cost as this tablet.

Is the tablet faster after hacking it?

    • @Pigeon__Man
      @Pigeon__Man 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@shuumai I wouldn't say faster. It gets rid of the Amazon "skin" they put on it so it's just fresh Android, maybe that helps speed slightly. I wouldn't get one if you don't already have one laying around. Mine was basically just used for netflix once in a while so I decided to give it a use. I'd go for one of the Lenovos if you're buying something new.

You can do the same with Android Phones (with an OTG cable or hub for more ports), Android TV or an Raspberry Pi 4 running Android but that is just the surface of what you can do with Android which is out of scope for this comment.

Tablets are *excellent* compact controlpad for sdr. I have a Pine64 Pinetab with a build in rtl-sdr card working surprisingly well. As little interference as my blog v3 externally. Fits well w/sma threads coming out back. It has absolutely become my favorite control dev. Wonder if you could mod android tablet to carry same (internal sdr card, ie: if it has any "free" space, ready/open ribbon cable clip/port etc)...

Radioddity is a radio manufacturer that make and also rebrand different radios. Baofeng is kind of like a name we loosely connect to a very specific dual band VHF/UHF radio. A Baofeng can be made by a few companies and share a similar look at feature set.
Sometimes, inexpensive handhelds are referred to as "Baofengs" - If its a Baofeng it is likely a Chinese made radio.

Any way to use SDR Touch or the like to receive aprs packets into APRSDroid? Seems like a great way to receive packets in a simple and cheap package...

Your rules are unclear about entries for the Ham Nation sweepstakes. AS I read it you are allowing only one entry per person but the rules don't say this in a clear statement. So your contest is likely defective and liable to disputation.

      Are you trolling?
“Only one entry per person (duplicates are automatically deleted).”
“Any attempt by Entrant to obtain more than the stated number of Entries by using multiple/different email addresses, identities,
registrations, logins or any other methods,
including, but not limited to, commercial contest/sweepstakes subscription notification and/or entering services, will void Entrant's Entries and that Entrant may be disqualified.”

WOW, Not to be like that, but it is amusing watching Apple users use Android for the first time. He's marveling at Features that have been part of the OS for years. No offense dude.

@@HamRadioCrashCourse so I would like to make some additional points on my own studies on ham radio and Android first of all did you know SDRangel and SDR++ have android version (SDRangel has poor touch support and SDR++ is not available in the Play Store you have to sideload it. As point but pretty much have all the same capabilities as the desktop version) also as I know you love APRS did you know APRSdroid can work through headphone jack with mobilink in my opinion a good way of doing APRS on the cheap just some thought I thought you might be interested in by no means an expert on this.

Everything works when you spend 4-5K$ on a antenna setup, if it only sorta works then rest assured it won’t work for you, affiliate links make more money then the TH-cam video it’s self, one source is ClickBank . This is a commercial

While idk if your generalization is bad. Do I fit your generalization? All the gear in this video is like maybe $600. And you don’t have to buy all of it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ the antenna is a $100 mfj vertical for 2m-70cm.

Depends on what models you get. Though android phones will work better with this. And this would need to be dedicated devices for radio and even then I'd use it as a hobby.
