    *Innate Practice* :
Repeatedly doing a certain task will upgrade the skills related to that task
    *Inspired Practice* :
Enthusiasm and energy drives you to develop yourself
    *Developmental Practice* :
When you consciously choose to practice and learn
    Exercises for that practice:
Exercise 1: _One-Picture-Repeat_ "Draw a single image many times, with an ever-decreasing time limit"
Exercise 2: _Life Drawing_ "Produce 2D representations of 3D objects or people"
Exercise 3: _Tutorial Marathon_ "Spend time dedicated to from creative tuition resources"
Exercise 4: _Deconstruction_ "Take complicated detailed images, and break them down visually into simple geometry"
Exercise 5: _Construction_ "Take simple representations of complicated things and 'fill in the blanks' "
    *SECRET FOURTH PRACTICE* :
Get the 3 practice together by doing a project that:
    i) Will make you practice your craft
ii) You like so it gives you enthusiasm
iii) Challenges you (learning new things)

Right, I've got stuff everywhere . I'm in my bedroom next to a box of pens and pencils, looking at 3 painted canvasses leaned against my large light table that has oil paints, more drawing supplies, some clay, vellum, thermofax paper. If I walk out of my room though, my tattoo station is nice and clean as it should be, but then my metal shop is cluttered with all kinds of stuff, tattoo machine builds, my motorcycle build, knife building, agate stone carving. Then in the basement my woodshop is covered in wood shavings...

Funny thing, my depression and anxiety actually helps me draw at some points. Heck, my depression is the reason why I started to draw in the first place.
I was bullied a lot and I was always left alone as a child and that kept happening for many, many, many years, so I began to develop thoughts of self-harm and anxiety. To cope with this, I started to draw. It made me happy. It gave me a chance to express how I felt. Express things I couldn't describe in words.
Although I hate my mental illness with a passion, as it also stops me from drawing sometime. But I cannot lie and deny that my depression didn't have anything to do with my hobby that I want to have as a job today and that I love with all my heart.

+Interela1000 Jojo (Interela1000) thats funny, i draw for a similar reason, im not very good at making friends, and when i was in 3rd grade i swiched school, basicaly, all my new class hated me and i got very depressed. Then, in 5ft grade, guess what, i swiched school again, yeeei, and guess what, i couldnt make friends again. So now, here i am, doing my art. I actually plan to buy a digital tablet to start drawing manga there. sorry for the gamatical errors, im from portugal and im better speaking english than talking.

    • @nightcoreangel7220
      @nightcoreangel7220 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

+Neko Saiyajin I started drawing because of the same reason. I used to get bullied a lot as well and I didn't had many friends. I was scared and I'm still scared to call someone a friend. When I did go to my second school, well, it was even more worse then my first. I was scared to go to school, I was scared that people were gonna blame me again. I wasn't good at sport. I got blamed every time that my team lost. And my teacher blamed me each lesson. She made me cry a lot. I was also a lot of day's sick. I couldn't follow class because of that. After all if I told my mom about it, then she wouldn't believe me.
What I wanted to say is, I draw since I could remember. It helped me a lot. I think that I wasn't here anymore if I didn't draw. It's the only thing I actually can do. The only moment that people didn't blame me.
      And now...
I got a lot of friends. My class is also nice to me. I ain't scared to go to school either. I like it. I finally love my life.

When I started learning art, people kept telling me that I needed to have my own projects and I needed to draw for fun. But I honestly couldn’t think of anything that I wanted to do for fun. The result was that I did nothing but developmental practice for about six month. Then I finally started having ideas. When I began drawing, I was utterly shocked at how much my skill level had gone up. Art fundamentals FTW.

It's frustrating, and I think I tend to overthink the flaws of my drawings too much. That, or I feel like I need better art tools to colour and outline better, as I don't exactly have that good art supplies and the shops that do have these things really inflate the prices :/

Don't focus on details yet, see the big projects. Time yourself even for 1min, 3 times a day. Focus on the big picture more than the details. For example: if you want to draw a dog, don't focus on the eyes, the mouth, the legs, the fair, etc. Instead, focus on the big picture, its overall form, break down into simple shapes(triangles, ovals, rectangles) practice that first and then get to the details. Go on your own pace

Out of all the art videos I have seen, yours may be the catalyst that helps me regain my art passion. See I am perfectionist; most artist are. I published something that didn't do well and gave up after criticism of how good my art is not. I would get frustrated not being able draw things how I wanted and just did not want to do it anymore. After seeing this video I now understand more what happened and I now doing these activities you suggested with my personal twist to improve. Only time will tell but I not so critical on myself because I will judge the progression after multiple pictures later not right now. I am glad I finally found something on how to train yourself instead of the normal how to draw this and that tutorial. That's dude.

This helped me a lot. I was always scared of drawing from the neck down though I really want to. And when I'm so inspired and want to draw, when I take out my sketchpad and pencil, I don't know what to draw or I draw the same thing which doesn't even look good. Everytime I draw, there's always this voice that's saying "You can't draw this", "you're not good enough" and I hate it a lot. I dislike watching drawing tutorials but this video didn't disappoint me. It made me realize my flaws (I'm always impatient and negative about my drawing skills) and inspired me to start over again and try to do better. Thank you!

Copying someone's art is easy and at this point I can say that alot of things I can draw almost perfectly by copying step by step.. But my problem is that i've seen so much of ther people's art that.. I just can't be creative.. I can't make a thing that doesnt exist or ive never seen before.. I cant be.. creative.. i will always somewhy draw something and think that.. oh, this is actually unique.. noone has made this exact thing and I made something original.. I show it to my friend and said: Oh.. This is the drawing we,saw 8 months ago while at my aunt's place.. ..How even... How to be creative.

Take a moment in your day to draw anything in your mind. Hungry? Draw some food (and then eat some food) Tired? Practice drawing beds. Bored? Uh, draw. Just draw anything. Even if it's a rock. Now take that rock, and keep adding details until it looks like the best rock ever.

    • @CowzSings
      @CowzSings 7 ปีที่แล้ว +73

And one day, you will have great ideas. A good thing to do is write down your ideas, so you don't forget them later.

    • @crappiccino1
      @crappiccino1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +37

I think that being creative can heavily benefit from inspiration you get from others' creations. This doesn't necessarily mean "copying", but It's essentially taking ideas from other sources and using those as a reference to create your own. Do you like to watch certain movies? Play videogames? Do you feel attached to a certain character or setting in a book that you've read before? You may find it easier to create something when your interests can fuel your creative ability. Again, I'm not encouraging you or anyone else to directly rip off something that another person has created. If you can't start anywhere, using something you like as a foundation to create something entirely unique can be a good way to create something.
This is a method that works for me, personally. Other people have different opinions and I can respect that.

    • @labellosimmer4948
      @labellosimmer4948 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

I don't think you have no creativity,I think you don't have much fantasy, but that is not the biggest problem! Maybe just take a look around your desk and draw something that is on it and add more things until you drew the whole desk. Also, you don't have to "copy" something, just take some inspiration and add your own things! For example, if you can draw a body, but you don't know what he/she/it could wear, you can take a look into some fashion magazines, if you draw a fictional character like a fairy or an elf, maybe look up "amazon warrior" or something!
I hope that this helped you :)

@Mark Alvarez So for an example let's say you draw spongebob for 30 mins. The second time you draw him you only have 20 mins to do it which makes you speed up the process. The third time you'll only have 10 minutes to draw him again and by this point you'll be able to draw him much easier and quicker than before so that if you want to fix things or make changes you'll still have time to do that.

It's so weird... all this time, I've been practicing to improve my drawing skills but I just realized that I've been doing all three types of practice for over freakin' YEARS. And I'd never known about this channel until now!
I started drawing a comic (that actly didn't have any dialogues lol) when I was in 2nd Grade, and then made my own official comic book that is made up of folded papers that glued together in 4th grade. It was only something that I decided to do for myself, but since my classmates liked it, I made another comic book which is the continuation of the former one. Before I knew it, I was making a series of that story and I was improving this whole time, considering the fact that I forced myself to hone my art skills for the sake of my and my group's project on comic strips.
I'd never noticed that I was INNATELY improving my art skills by drawing comic strips multiple times over the years and had been continuing the story until the very end because of how I was INSPIRED to make fantasy stories. My art style has just gotten a lot better ever since I made the decision of DEVELOPING my skills on drawing by going back to the world of art and by putting my brain, heart and soul on important art lessons on the internet. I did a lot of ambitious challenges that I'd never thought I'd ever face in my whole life.
Now look where it got me... I'm an artsy writer dork who has a wishlist of art materials!

    1. Stop playing video games - go practice your drawing.
    2. Stop watching videos of people playing video games, movies, trailers, reaction, unboxing, reviews, fails, porn ,etc - go practice drawing.
    3. Stop watching Speed drawings, drawing tutorials etc - go practice drawing.
    4. Stop with your online chatting, liking, arguing, commenting, forums etc. - go practice drawing.
Once you can get pass these, you are on your way to becoming a great artist.

Man, your articulation, and frankly, your abundantly crystal clear explanation of these types of practices is absolutely insane! I'm an (mediocre) artist myself, and I could not imagine having explained this (or having heard explained) any more precisely. Admittedly, I recently found your channel and have been relentlessly "binge-watching" your videos for about a week now. I watch ALL SORTS of content on TH-cam, and with full sincerity I have to say that your videos - The content, the quality, the execution, are the absolute best I have seen... Literally EVER. My hat goes off to you and your team. GREAT stuff!! Cheers from Florida 😁🍻

Try drawing it a bit differently, like possibly adding an extra feature or two, or possibly alternating the positioning/ angle of that certain object after every drawing. You will still be drawing the same object and it won't feel repetitive...it feels like this is cheating and not following the rules, but it's still practice. You will also notice the things like "oh, this hairstyle looks better positioned this way in this angle compared to the previous one" etc etc.

+Utonium Ph. D. I am not a pro artist, but what helped me very much are: 1. an anatomy book. Sounds boring, is boring, but it helps you very much to understand, how the bones and muscles and fat work in hands, feet, arms, legs, etc. There are special artistic anatomy books. 2. practice in different positions. Fastest way is to use your own body, you can either make photos from your own hands/feet and draw them, or other peoples photos (only for practice then, copyright) or for the beginning just sketches in front of a mirror.

I mostly came up with my own drawing, so I will tell you this, for hands, make them hold a thing to hide it, or even make the person wear a coat very big for them, like a child with an adult coat, it covers their hands with the sleeves, the bottom of it is touching the ground being dragged, and so you've nothing to worry about. Either do that, or do what the other person suggested.

Same with me. Up to grade 6 I mainly just drew realistic animals because for me that was something I was comfortable and kinda good at, while I avoided drawing people and cartoons. I still love to draw animals but more recently I've been thinking, 'what the heck, I should get better with drawing more cartoony and practicing people. I think that was also inspired because of TV shows and other artists, but I'm happy that now I'm not too terrible at those styles and gradually improving from the help of tutorials and other artists.

    hi everyone.
a lot of people wish they could draw... And people keep trying to draw.
i believe that if you really like drawing you will be good at it.
i always said to people that if you have it in you, you will keep it going.
as for me, I think about drawing all the time.
so if you don't think of drawing all the time it probably isn't for you no more than sky diving.
in all honesty it really has to be your passion.
if you are true to drawing you will always find a pencil in your had.
for example : my brother in law plays the drums.
no matter where he is he's always taping his hands.
i guess he has a fadish with the drums???
this means that he is musically inclined and has a passion for it..
just like a person that's always working on cars.
well that person loves everything about cars.
As for me, I set myself up for drawing a long time ago and it became a set skill.
I always liked 3D and I liked drawing shapes.
so in the long run i found it useful when it came to my Job as a carpenter.
drawing is fun and creative and opens up new doors to your imagination.
it will give you ideas on where you're going and what you're trying to accomplish.
example : i like nature and I like to draw landscapes.
so i know what I want and I can put it on paper.
i like building houses and other structures so i can make my own blue prints as well.
i like wood carving so I can draw the 3D version of what I'm making.
remember that most skills have everything to do with setting up and drawing it as well.
this is why I love drawing.
we all use it for something.
    penmanship is used everyday.
if you can write every letter in the alphabet YOU CAN DRAW.
if you can write your name in cursive YOU CAN DRAW.
If you can write every number YOU CAN DRAW.
    don't fool yourself.

You obviously know nothing Matthew. Not having a strong passion doesn't mean it's not for you. It simply means you haven't found the right art style or you have other passions over it. Over time a passion grows and others fall, not having a current passion for something doesn't mean you should stop. Don't be stupid

    • @metoowahl
      @metoowahl 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

SmokeyMcNuggett . obviously I've been drawing for 40 years and I'm comfortable and confident with it.
I've made pictures worth a lot of money.
I GUESS I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING AND I'M TRYING TO FOOL MYSELF.
I guess I don't have a passion for it. RIGHT.
my art work is impeccable and I put a lot of time and effort into it I'm proud of it.
I hope that other people feel the same way about themselves because if not.......
it wasn't their own passion to begin with and I don't mean that in a bad way.
      all I know is this....
when I'm at the drawing board I'm not setting myself up for failure.
      it doesn't mean that I won't make a mistake.
it means that I can fix it without worrying about the mistakes.
      it's only paper anyway.
but everything I do ends up on paper before I commit myself to a mistake I can't erase.
I see a lot of people with good ideas but they can't put it on paper because they don't know how to draw.
this video was made to inspire people who are passionate with their art work and want to keep going with it.
I have my own style when it comes to drawing but I also pick up ideas from other people as well.
drawing is the least of my worries.
I'm more interested in finding a way to get rid of the graphite shin on paper.
my only solution is to go with charcoal for the dark shading and useing a brush for blending.
but charcoal doesn't blend well with some of the values in pencil.
      8B 9B.
it does depend on the picture your drawing at hand.
Graphite shin is the mother of all nightmares to most artists.
      almost unavoidable.
but I'm still looking for new ideas.

      I hope you enjoy drawing.
      I had a vision.
and the vision was about someone drawing a picture for me. but in the end.... the person past away and the only thing that remains is my feelings and a picture left behind.
the picture was in great detail from line to line and into light and Dark silhouettes.
it left a big impact on me.
they say that a picture paint's a thousand words but it never explains the person who made it or the signature left at the bottom with kind words saying ... I love you.
But it's only a vision in my eyes and in my heart... It's the pencil in hand that does the rest.
a crippled man wishes he could walk. but a dieing man wishes to leave something behind for you to remember him by.

This helped me by teaching me how to take time to do one section at once.
This doesn’t always have to be used for drawing, it can be used for something like homework like doing one thing at a time, so thank you. 👍

I discovered your tutorials only yesterday, and I'm hooked. You seem to know your subject(s) very well, and your ability to speak clearly and intelligently is a real pleasure. I'm now a subscriber, and fully intend to watch and learn from each of your tutorials. Please keep up the good work.
