Then add up all those amounts and subtract 10% of your adjusted gross income from that total to calculate your allowable casualty and theft losses for the year."
So if someone steals a pack of gum, $1.19 -$100 is negative so I don't think you can calculate that. I think the Casualty Loss tax code was to deal with large theft (like a vehicle or something).
I think the IRS thought about retailers trying to get massive tax write-offs from petite theft and made the law specifically to deny them that loop hole. Odd, really, considering that it seems like most tax laws benefit large companies.

Who cares about her side? She stole $40,000 worth of merchandise that the rest of us have to pay for. That is illegal. Go to jail, like I know I would have to.
My only question is why did nobody see her entitled face until now.

Target and all the other big companies that continue to get robbed need to put pressure on the governors, judges, etc. that continue to let this happen.

If these CORPORATIONS paid their fair share of taxes, I'd agree.
      Political donations are not taxes.

It is easier to steal than work for it. There are so many food pantries, they can get boxes of food every day of the month.

She's most likely stealing to support her drug habit or someone else’s. Keep her in jail!!
