I'm right there with you brother. I felt the same way about the NFL bs. Fought 2008-2010 in Kunar Province. People here have 0 idea about what the world is really like. I'm 11th Generation military and it will end with me. I refuse to allow my family to be walked on for a country that could care less. I told my kids that our family has done more than our share.
I never comment on any of these videos but Ima say thank you for what you said and how you held your composure. I am still currently serving and that subject pisses me off as well and I know I wouldn't of been able to not curse. Do you know what it's like having a conservative mindset in New York, arguably the most liberal state in this nation? Mate, I know exactly what you mean with the disrespect being shown towards your nation's flag, I used to live in the USA and would stand (albeit not at attention or with a hand over my heart, (I'm not American) ) for the National Anthem and the Stars and Stripes being unfurled/flown.
The Stars and Stripes are even , ironically, a symbol of freedom from oppression regarding us Brits. So in fact, the people protesting against oppression by kneeling are disrespecting the symbol of what they want and what gives them the freedom to protest in the first place.
There is a time and a place for democratic, rightful, peaceful, protest. During the National Anthem of your country, is not that time.
Oh, and Rob, thanks for serving your country, so that your fellow Americans can continue having their freedom of speech and rights, and visitors to your country can enjoy everything it has to offer!

If they want to make a statement, that is fine, if they want to protest, go right ahead, but it should not be done, in my view, during a National Anthem. A big statement would have been to not even bother coming out of the dressing room, simply stood around in there until the Anthem is over, then all of them take a knee. It would have been more powerful.
I am fully aware of the current issues within the United States' urban areas and the dissatisfaction people are having with the President. I have witnessed the issues first hand, regarding the former of these topics.
I just don't think that they should be using the National Anthem as a platform for their political protesting. Would they kneel through another country's anthem? Probably not.

I do agree that there is a way better way to protest than kneeling but only time will tell. Its a very touchy subject.

The flag stands for freedom and liberty to do as we please as Americans. It stands for the countless men and women who have DIED to give you the freedoms that alot of us honestly don't deserve. There is no "correct" way to peacefully protest. Your argument on how a free individual should protest is completely one sided. Half of my family has served in the military. Two of them have died wearing that flag. While I completely sympathize with your loss and understand your point of view, the problem is you have no idea what it is like on the other side.
My great grandfather was lynched under a 45 star flag in a country that frequently overlooked great injustices toward African Americans on a daily basis. The only thing he felt before he died was that he didn't belong under that flag because he didn't fit in with the majority. I couldn't imagine the pain someone must feel battling the same injustices in the year 2017 under a 50 star flag. As a free citizen, it is not an individuals responsibility to respect a flag. Any flag is merely a symbol of what an individual believes it stands for. As the President of the United States however, it is Donald Trump's responsibility to respect and uphold the basic right to protest anything in a peaceful manner without threat of retaliation. No individual should have to choose if he/she should protest peacefully or not while the leader of the free world obnoxiously jesters while screaming "you're fired!" into a microphone on the biggest stage int he world.

Wait... So you fought for people's freedom but you don't want people to use that freedom? Forcing people to praise a flag is what a dictator does, it is what communist countries do, Not Americans/America. Do I think it's dumb? Yes! is it a disgrace? Well look at the situation. Rich people are very very peacefully protesting for the poor Americans affected by Racism and Police brutality. Seems like a very good reason to peacefully protest.
Now Should they protest the flag? Well look at it again It is a problem all across America not just one area, The Police are part of the government of America, so this is an American issue (The Flag). Now is kneeling to the flag an effective way to bring attention to this very serious issue? Well....Yes! Obviously very effective.
Now should you be mad that these people don't live in a communist country and are able to express their freedom which you so proudly fought for? by peacefully protesting American racism? No!!! You should be proud that they have that freedom, because people like you fought for it. You should be angry that America is still having problems dealing with racism, something America also fought for. You should be helping them by calling out racists and bad cops, so that the good cops don't look bad and so America doesn't look bad. You want people to adore that flag.
I speak as a person who did not serve, but my family has. My Brother served 6 years and my Father served my entire life until he died from his wounds he received during his 2007-08 tour with CO B 834. He died in 2009. I was born and raised on military bases and lived in base housing for the first 16 years of my life. Military and America are my life.
And although I would never do it, I think it is fine that they are (It is their freedom), and that we should maybe pay attention to why they are doing it and try to fix it so that they can proudly stand at attn. to the American flag also.
Not letting people make a choice, is NOT freedom. Disgracing people because they use their freedom, is NOT freedom.

The flag is a symbol it doesn't grant anything it represents the ideals of the nation, liberty and justice for all. When you feel like your not getting justice at national systemic level wouldn't it feel like an ideal of the nation died? Hence the kneeling at the loss of one of the pillars of the symbol
Yes this country is free but when they say the anthem and when you stand for it it is about respect and by not standing you are disrespecting every man or woman whether they are black white or even Asian that made this country what it is today so yes you may have good intentions but by doing that it means a hell of a lot more that what you are doing. We have the right in the USA to speak out about the things we don't like. We have the right to dislike what our government does and we have ways to work on changing our government, But not by dishonoring our flag or our Country the two very things that gives us those rights! I agree with you all the way, Lunkers. It upsets me that people will stand on the flag, burn it, spit on it, degrade it, or kneel during the anthem. I lost my uncle who served in The Marines, seeing my grandpa who is a World War 2 vet who lost his ability to hear and not able to stand for long due to shrapnel which is still buried in his spine and close to a vital nerve, yet he still musters strength to stand for the national anthem. I lost a good friend in high school who served in Afghanistan. The people who do things to the flag don't understand that it is more than just a cloth, it is a blanket that wraps our fallen, protecting them this time on the way Home and the Gates, it's a fold that we shelf to remind us that our friends and loved ones.
My grandpa has the flag that was on my uncle's casket as he was buried, and I will always remember what he asked and said. "Do you know why we fold the flag the flag in a triangle? The fallen has sacrificed their life for the big three, God, Country, Family. Thus, the flag is folded as a symbol that they given all they had for just those three things."
