While freestanding handstand push-up requires a lot of balance and is hard to do for reps and sets, the wall handstand push-ups perfectly meets the criteria for a good strength training. And you don't need to buy plates and bar, only the weight vest eventually
I would love to see you show that perfect form with dumbbells too! I prefer doing my overhead pressing with those (not that I have a choice, I don't have a barbell), since it feels way more natural on my wrists! I've gained so much strength and musclemass ever since starting doing overhead presses with my dumbbells. They have been a blessing and it's thanks to your video about the military press being one of the best pushing exercises you've shown recently that made me give it a shot! Excellent and honest content right here!
Great tips Dom, nice vid 💪👍 Let me add a little tip : if you haven't good shoulder mobility , closer neutral grip with dumbells (following same rules) is a good alternative imo.
A few things to take care of, is that the overhead press/millitary press (standing) is NOT the best exercise for people with long limbs (long arms). The Z-press (sitting flat on the ground with no back support and the legs straight in front of you) is a way better choice.
Great video as usual! Dom, in my program I’m doing elevated pike pushups, anterior deltoid press, and pseudo planche pushups for hypertrophy to improve my delt/overhead strength. Should I sub pikes for the military press? My goal is to get handstand pushup this year
As I know, OHP in general is superior to dips. Well, in that case do you prefer to do pike push ups imstead of doing dips, if you could only choose one of the two? Thanks.
Depends on the goal! If you are after the Iron cross... dips may be fore beneficial!... there is no "good or bad" there is only that which aligns with your goals & that which doesn't! ;)
Hello Dominik. I am struggling not knowing what to do with the dips exercise. In the first set I can do like 9 to 12 reps max with bodyweight, then the second and third set i can only do like 4 to 6 reps with bodyweight , so I really don’t know when should I start adding weights? Should I add weight when I can do 12 reps in all sets with bodyweight? Thanks!
@Xavier Campbell that’s all you need in callisthenics period 😂 almost every advanced move I.e OAP , planche , impossible dip, FL, handstand involves the scapular. Obviously you should strengthen other areas but having a stronger scapular will assist you very greatly!
Started working on OHP like 10 months ago, went from ~85kg to 97.5kg 1RM. I was hoping it would improve my freestanding HSPU. It didn't. Still, nice exercise anyway, still doing it on regular basis.
You say less than 70kg is not great but for a 60 kg guy , is 50/55 a great target ? I'm targeting a 3-5 sets of 5 with double 22 kg dumbbells . What you think about it compared to the barbell ?
I wasted so much time with fucking pike push ups and eccentric hspu, cause i didn't have any barbell. No comparison, with military is so much easier to get stronger
I've been subscribed long enouph to know beforehand that you would say the military press and that the bench was only a gag, BOOM
You know it haha
Same lmao
Thank you for transforming my training dude. Finally making gains in all areas after making some changes thanks to your videos

Love yourrre content thanks sharing me some of your precious strength knowledge and helping me in journey of increasing my strength 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Over pressing used to be king. Bench was unheard of. The question use to be: "bro what can you overhead press".
Brilliant content 🙌🙌💪💪💪

I was a about to write the same thing 👍
would you be able to make a video on the reason you dont like exercises like the bench press and what the problem with laying down during a workout is
Here you go champ! th-cam.com/video/wp3mhqhAU74/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the videos, mister Dominik.
Thank you Mr.Dominic.You always make good and intereting videos 🙏👍❤️
Can you do a video on how your time in the 🇺🇸 was? And stuff on your mma training, it would be awesome
Haven't gone there yet champ! Preparing like crazy & heading out in a month or 2 ;)
aah finally no bs of bands selling placement or wtvr else ,straight on point , thanks bruh ;D
He Dominik. Have you ever tried hit training? One slow set to failure for every exercise? Greetz
I always read you need to have your low back neutral, in anterior pelvic tilt you can damage your back.
This man is a genius
What about breathing during the exercise ? Inhaling before taking the weight, that's OK. But then, during the concentric and eccentric part ?

What do you think about banded shoulder Press when you lack on place at home

OHP is awesome but a lot of people lack shoulder mobility and they can injur their shoulders so I would give tip #1 get the mobility
This + pseudo planche push ups = rock solid serratus anterior and shoulder strength

Where have you been all this time?we miss you bro.
I hope Dominik didn’t forget his account password …💪🏻💪🏻great stuff
nice, thanks! were you talking when you should have been listening? (shiner)
How much weight do you think i should be able to pull in a weighted pull-up to start to train for one arm pull-up ?
75% minimum!
@@DominikSky1 Thanks for answering !!
@@lucashenriques4242 75% of bodyweight?
@@RaphyJmusic Yeah
This AND protracted push ups (your previous video) ;)
Dominik skyy....you should try olympic liftinh!!!
You have a poster of Blade :)

Maybe you're strong enough but lack balance and body tension? Spend more time upside down
@@FaulksDigital I don't care about hspu so much, so whatever. Stuck at 7 reps for a year or so. Spending time upside down every other day tho
Dominik: if u can military press less than 70kg , ur weak
Me:20kg 😢
You say less than 70kg is not great but for a 60 kg guy , is 50/55 a great target ?
I'm targeting a 3-5 sets of 5 with double 22 kg dumbbells . What you think about it compared to the barbell ?
It most certainly is. You can press almost your bodyweight so I presume that handstand push ups are easy for you, as far as strength Is considered.
Shoulder Press standards says that with your bodyweight: [21-beginner]--[32-novice]--[46-intermediate]--[63-advanced]--[81-elite] (of course in kg)
@@karolkonieczny9130 as a one rep right ?

how the hell do u engage the glutes and do APT at the same time , its impossible. messing with my gains !
All cali guy immediately knew he was joking when he started bench pressing at the start
I am 63kg and can military press 55kg
good?
Yes
Big fan
And what about weighted dips??
Why does he not lock out the elbows?
What's best exercise of glutes for Calisthenics?
P.S. We call you Guru Ji. 🙏🙏
Coming!
Weighted squats obviously
What about weighted dips??
Very good exercise! But poor transfer to majority of the other calisthenics elements!
@@DominikSky1 Amen!
@@weshallneversurrender you agree with this?
@@elicohen8156 Yeah bro, weighted dips don't help much with calisthenics skills, certainly not as much as overhead press...
Shoot, I don't have the equipment for a military press...
I wasted so much time with fucking pike push ups and eccentric hspu, cause i didn't have any barbell. No comparison, with military is so much easier to get stronger
Will this help with weighted dips?
Not really. Front delt is slightly involved into dips.
It will help some long term because it builds front delts and triceps
You looks like Khamzat Chimaev ! your faces look a bit alike : p
HSP?
Watch the whole video brother! If you can rep out 5x5 freebalancing HSPU go for that... otherwise the balance is the limiting factor ;)
