One key point in pike push ups is to keep the toes pointed at all times, sounds simple but it makes such a big difference because it shifts even more weight into the anterior shoulder. It also requires more pike flexibility and compression strength, so you also work on your core a lot. Another very good exercise that is helping me a lot is doing handstand push ups negatives facing the wall , but when you get to the bottom position slide you leg off the wall into a tuck position, like in a bent arm press to handstand, and hold for a few seconds, simply amazing for overloading the shoulders.
Some ideas: nutrition, sleeping and in general how to speed up recovery. Currently struggle with this, training and working at the same time. And thanks, good content as always.
take naps when you can! this helps me at least. and having food ready to eat (like in a slow cooker) after work helps too, so that you can come home, eat, digest, workout, and then sleep and not lose precious time cooking
After school, I usually have to clean up house or do labor jobs. I only gets to sleep 6-7 hours a day. When it was exam time, I probably could only sleep to 5-6 hours only....
Nice explanation. Easy to understand. So 3 exercise to handstand push up is:- 1. Military press preferably shoulder width hand position 2. Pike push up preferably shoulder width hand position 3. I dont remember 3.
Best Pike Push Up Tuturial on TH-cam, because Dominic points out the nuances. I thought I could do them well with proper form. But staying protracted and posterior. Whole new level on the Delts. 👌🏼
When you asked what topics we would like to see I responded with “more information on the hspu” Thankyou for making this video! I’m a taller guy and I struggle with the hspu more than I should.
Sindre Jenssen Yes front lever has been very hard. I can do a straddle front lever for about 3-5 seconds. You can check it out on my recent video, calisthenics pull workout if you wanna see it.
Bro you your english is much better then 8years a go ,when you made a video about fails and never give up, and you still a legend big up to you champion 🙏🙏
Hands down the best video on the pike pushup. It's amazing in how many ways one can cheat oneself out of the pike pushups benefits. Very helpful, as I am still struggling with it. Thank you.
The only channel that shows perfect technique along with mistakes, while talking simultaneously. Unlke other guys who do a voice over and remain calm throughout the video
I've never imgined before close grip pike push ups but they are really PHENOMENAL 💣💣💣 💥💥💥BOOM💥💥💥 And please can you do a motivation video when you perform very cool and strong stuff in calisthenics, freerunning or anything else.
Another excellent progression is full ROM handstand pushup negatives on parallettes with the parallettes as close together as possible to allow the head to pass between them. Reps should be repeated until you no longer maintain a controlled descent. This is much more difficult than negatives with the parallettes shoulder width or wider apart.
Thank you so much for uploading this video! I was stuck at a couple of freestanding hspus. After incorporating the close grip push ups it changed the game!
Hey Dominik! Two questions: 1. What do you think on doing the pike push ups on rings? since in the video you only used the floor and parallettes. 2. Some time ago you mentioned that you're interested in going to ufc, how is this going? PS: So glad that you're back on yt :D
Hi Antonio, I've been experimenting with deep pike push-ups on rings lately. I find it difficult to be in the shoulder width grip as you have to press the rings towards each other as you go deeper in the movement. So it's rather a wide grip pike push-up for me on rings. I may not be strong enough yet to perform them correctly.
100% Solid! Yeah, I noticed the Anterior Delt loses out on that Arch (Anterior pelvic tilt) and lack of hollow body. I was 3rd beast tutorial on your site and I didn't understand why I wasn't feeling that initial pressure on my delts when performing the rep. Thank you for clarifying what I needed to do.
Wonderful advices! I was struggling for years, because I didn't know of the proper form and muscules required for the handstand pushups. I have a solid handstand hold on hands and on parallets as well as the slow pushing from a crouching position to a handstand, but no solid handstand pushups. Now I started doing pike pushups and 45 degree negative handstand pushups with a 15kg vest, like you have shown and they are really targeting the anterior deltoid muscules and now I see how weak they were and that this was the main problem. I also love doing the millitary press, got to 1 rep with 85kg but I am currently 93kg bodyweight so I hope the pikes help me with that. I currently bought from aliexpress a couple of cannonballs for pullups (they are great for climbers) and would recommand them for you, if you haven't tried those yet. They developed my grip strenght and forearms so much in just a month use and are a great addition to my training equipment. Again, love your videos, thank you! PS: Would love if you do a muscule up tips video! :)
Hi Dominik Like you mentioned in the video about shoulder imbalances, I have developed a really big imbalance between my left and right shoulder while doing pike push ups and now it's really uncomfortable when I do hspu and pike push ups and I don't know how can I solve this (especially since I have one shoulder taller than the other) , do you have any tips for me? I appreciate it, keep doing the good work, cheers!
single arm dumbell presses maintaining protaction. always start with the weak arm and whatever reps you do with the weak arm are what you do with the strong arm. that's what worked for me
I’ve really been enjoying your videos of late. Great tutorials. I like full-body sessions, but I’m considering a pull/push/ legs routine. Keep up the great work. Subscribed.
Thank you Dominik for this great video, greetings from Lithuania. Also, could you please do a video on whats in your opinnion is the best progression to achieve OAC and common mistakes? Thanx, you are the best on YT👍💪
Thanks man,you are so amazing person, your teaching is more than wine and dine.however i would like to ask you one significant question.i do hand stand against the wall and i can do pushups in different way.however i can not walk on my hand.what you can advise me to walk on my hand?
Great video na a lot of love from greece so if you can it would be great if you made a video of weighted pullups progressions an d right program to progress fast and right
Hey Dom, great video, really like the progressions, defo gonna try some of these, you mentioned @10:15 about bent legs and work flexibility, my hamstrings are super tight, any tips or video on how to straighten those legs.
Great video! I can do some HSPUs but I'm working on the planche now. Will definitely implement more close grip variations to build that delt strength. Thank you for the floating variation as well!
What’re your thoughts on using kettlebells for military press rather than a barbell? It would seem to me that you can more easily keep the protracted position with KBs than one might with barbell. Love your advice on using pike pushups and have started working on doing sets every other day.
I am severely disabled. Due to that my hips are very stiff. My hip flexion is much below 90°, maybee 45° or even less. But still there is some kind of bend in hips. Should I do like PU at all? Some suggestions for execution?
Missed you man! (even if the email goes strong). What I have to tell you is that the MOST IMPORTANT thing you teached me is how to train strenght. So who better to ask about this? Do you think that it's more effective to scale weight up doing more sets or to stay on the same max weight for that 1-5 60% rep range?
After watching this video, I think I've finally known how to do the correct pike pushup. I have a question to Dominik: I recently stuck in static handstand hold (maximum 1 min or with seconds more) and not able to do a full handstand pushup (can do half-range for 5 reps). In order to progress onto full handstand pushup, should I turn to pike pushup instead of insisting in struggling with handstand hold for longer (for example 2 min or above) ?
I am abviously very weak somewhere, because I filmed myself and I collaspe through the upper/mid back especially on the press portion and shift the load to my upper chest. How do I address this? :S
Dude i was wondering... when you do it on the ground the elbow stays over the wrist as it is supposed to be, when on the parallettes your elbows are a little behind your wrists. I saw the same thing on the parralletes from Devin P.Kelly on Insta. Do you know whats going on there?
3 things that Dominik definitely likes are:
1) hand stand push ups
2) Tupac
3) Mike Tyson.
Pokemon,Batman
Yes plus 4 is it there 7:33 on the wall littlebeastm :) looks besides the window on the left

@@gammazzz3894 Thanks so much for your comment and tips. Didn't know slow cookers exist.
For recovery speed up yo should DEFINITELY take creatine

JFreez i am also tall. And it sucks
Sindre Jenssen Right. Not the best attribute to have for calisthenics.
Not at all. Hahahah. Right now i am trying to learn front lever. I can do a one foot tuck lever now. So i am getting close. What about you
Sindre Jenssen Yes front lever has been very hard. I can do a straddle front lever for about 3-5 seconds. You can check it out on my recent video, calisthenics pull workout if you wanna see it.

I added close grip pike push ups to my routine thks to you damn they are hard all these years of push ups didn t streghtened my shoulders at all
Thank you, great video.I am 40 years old and in couple of weeks i will be able to do my first handstand pushup.

It took me also a while to learn understand the body understanding of being hollow = Upper back rounding = protraction

This is the first video I've seen of yours. I am now subscribed. Thank you for going so deep on this exercise. I look forward to watching more!
This is the best breakdown of how to properly do pike push ups. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the clear explanation of pike push ups!! I will try to focus in my abs and deltoid and dorsi!!

Rings give extra Range of motion. He's stability gains and hspu gains. Rings are proved to be the best.
