    For your next visit to Portland I recommend hitting up the different neighborhoods. Each one has their own flavor and you’ll find more of the fun local shops, parks and places to explore. Downtown is not terrible at all but it’s kind of empty and boring. Plus once you leave the core you start running into more diverse people and businesses.

    Hey! Native PDX'er here. Next time you should visit Deadstock coffee in downtown-- black owned with a super fun run club on Tuesday nights. ALSO--- Doe Donuts on the eastside {of the river} is amazing, Vegan and actually worth the drive and money, Voodoo is purely for tourists, which you identified perfectly; haha. Hope you enjoyed visiting!

    Please move up here and start a Philz coffee Portland :D Glad you got Roseline, Heart coffee and Never Coffee and Case Study are all great spots too. Junior's is a coffee roaster here with really good beans too. Tov is also an amazing Middle Eastern cafe with really unique drinks. If you didn't make it to SE Portland (Hawthorne, Division areas) that would be a great spot for next time. Definitely the coolest neighborhood in the city.
    For vegan food, you gotta try Boxcar Pizza and Jade Rabbit, an all vegan dimsum-ish spot. Ben and Esther's is amazing too; you should def try their breakfast sandwiches next time - the "bacon" they use is next level. Glad you liked our city :)

    Thanks for this video. I've been curious about Portland and you showed some nice things. I was curious what your thoughts are on the diversity (of people). I've always heard that Portland was very white. I saw a handful of people of color passing by in your vlog, as well as your interaction with the vodka guy, but did that aspect stand out to you at all? Thanks again for sharing your experience. It's very helpful :)

    • @Muton230
      @Muton230 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I live in the area and you are right, its not as diverse as other cities like LA, SF, NYC, etc. but it's not 100% white. There are definitely people of multiple different backgrounds and a diverse food scene due to all of those people. I'm white, so I can't tell you how it feels to be a person of color here, but hopefully you give Portland a visit sometime :)

    • @taylakurner

      @@Muton230Thank you for your input! I most definitely will visit. I'm looking forward to it, actually. I guess my hesitation would be living there, which I'm considering. I'm from the Bay Area, so living in a diverse area is what I'm used to, and prefer. I think it's important for mental and spiritual wellbeing to see people who look like you (as well as people who are different than you) when you step outside your door. I've also lived in several homogenous parts of the world, and while they weren't terrible experiences, I've come to realize how important it is for me to be surrounded by ALL kinds and colors of people. Either way, I'm excited to explore Portland and see for myself :))

      @@taylakurner hey I live in Portland!! You can’t go wrong with diverse food for sure (definitely in agreement with the first comment)!! Overall statistic wise it is a pretty white city for sure though but Portland and Beaverton in my opinion are the most diverse. I would say definitely visit during the summer and fall if you can before deciding to live here though, traffic can get pretty bad if you drive! I hope you like it though!! Definitely research a lot before moving though, as beautiful as the city is we still have our lows for sure, currently the homeless crisis is bad and downtown can feel pretty scary at night depending on where you are!! Overall this may be a lot to read but definitely visit for sure even though I’ve lived here all my life I still adore this city. I love the Saturday markets, pretty much all the places shown in the vlog, the parades are fun in the summer, the rivers, fun mom and pop stores downtown!!! Oh also I’m black/hispanic so I definitely relate to wanting to know if there’s spaces for POC around town and town diversity!!!

      Portland is very white. I can't say that it has changed much visually in my 60 years. In fact when I moved to NE Portland 30 years ago it was much more diverse than it is now. That said there are pockets of diversity. SE when I was growing up was white and Asian, N and NE was black with a population of elderly white folks. When my late Aunt was small NE was immigrant central with a large population of Italians.

      @@KaylaaHazel Hi!:) I'd say start small by doing more local solo trips so that it's not as daunting. Then eventually go to further cities once you build up that confidence. In terms of safety, one thing that helps me is pretending that I belong there lol and researching the area a little beforehand. I'll probably do a separate video on this topic!
