I loved Portland! I also went on a work assignment a few years ago and brought my little sister along with me. We had so much fun, now I'm returning with my boyfriend in a few months so I'm looking for new things to do and I came across your video! Love the editing style and thank you for the recommendations.
Portland is on my bucket list for my next US trip. Did you feel safe while you where there? I've heard a lot about how the city has become less safe. On the other hand, when I went to San Fransisco people also talked about how dangerous SF is, but I didn't feel more unsafe than most other big cities.
It definitely depended on where I was! Especially as I was exploring by myself, I tried avoiding certain parts. Downtown/Chinatown are the worst areas where drug use is very prominent. I was always cautious walking around, but I felt pretty safe in the Pearl District and any other area that was outside of Downtown :) If you do decide to stay downtown though, I would recommend being with someone xx
Hi😊 I’m from Portland. Exactly the situation you found in SF is what you’ll find here and, as you said, in almost any city. Portland got such a bad wrap in the media for two reasons I think. The riots a few years ago were such a visual spectacle that they really seem to have made an impression in the minds of people all across the nation. Even though the truth is, that whole situation was in like a two square block area in a metropolitan of two and a half million people. So,, not a true depiction of the city. The other is that Portland has been so sought after/talked up for so many years leading up to the issues that I think the contrast factor sticks out like a sore thumb. In regard to the homeless epidemic (which is in EVERY west coast city as well as many other U.S. cities now) yes it’s more than pre Covid. But still 90% of the city is beautiful and quirky and full of good food and beautiful forests as it’s ever been. The two main areas to avoid are Chinatown and the chunk of S.E from like 60th ave to 181st ave. The homeless camps have been pushed into those areas. The best areas to vacation in my opinion are the Pearl District (the 1900’s wearhouse district turned into a neighborhood with lots of shopping and restaurants. Think Soho in N.Y.). Then there’s Nob hill/The Alphabet district (which in local verbiage is simply called Northwest Portland. To me it’s the prettiest). And then there’s the Hawthorne District (the old school hippie neighborhood). Also an advantage of being in Northwest Portland is the walkable access to the forested hills right next to you. You can eat and drink at 5 star places or small mom n pop places, find coffee and beautiful architecture everywhere and then literally go hiking on rainforest trails all literally without even renting a car.
Algo sent me, and I'm probably not your usual demographic, but your editing is so good! Cool for me to see Portland from thousands of miles away. Subbed. Do you have any tips on filming public? I'm trying to shoot videos too and I get self-conscious, lol.
Thank you!! Honestly it took some time to get comfortable filming in public (I still get self conscious), but it's worth it knowing you'll have enough footage to actually edit a video. I also film with an Osmo Pocket 3 which is soooo portable, great quality, and small enough so people don't really realize it's a camera. The more you do it, the easier it gets! Hope that helps :)
Moving there soon and I can’t wait to explore and get to find all these neat spots in Portland.
Congrats on the move! You’re gonna love it!
It’s an endless treasure of secret places and cozy vibes. You’ll love it 😊🌲☔️

Portland’s crime level downtown is at or below 2019 levels again!

@@megannlandersonn That does help, and the Osmo Pocket 3 looks super stealth. Thanks!
She says she’s solo traveling but spends the video with her partner. Would have liked to see an actual solo traveling experience in Portland:(
