Picked one up a few days ago, trading in a Kia Sorento. My only regret is that it took me so long to actually look into one as I’d passed it over when my wife first suggested it. It’s pretty much exactly what I wanted (fun to drive) and needed (seating for 5, plenty of cargo space). All the bells and whistles are the cherry on top.
Great camera work and production values! I got one in soul red, premium plus. Coming from Mercedes E Class and a couple of BMWs, I think the steering is just fine and I am happy to go japanese for less maintenance cost!
Before choosing a CX50 you should consider the following: 1. The GT’s 20” rims and standard Goodyears (Canada) cannot be considered an off-road tire. Hopefully it works in winter but you don’t have much tread depth. 2. This is no competitor to a Subaru product as there is no suspension travel, little ground clearance and a metric tonne-load of plastic under the Mazda (can you find the oil filter DIY’s) 3. Fussy interior: Beautiful sure but it marks so easily and that surface around the shifter is hard to clean and scratches easily. 4. How do you clean the heads-up display that sits in the well in the dash and do you find the display in the glass distorted or clear? 5. Don’t count on great mileage and oil change intervals seem to be more frequent. 6. Body: so many crevices to trap sand and salt over winter = early rust potential? Just wondering (had literally miles of weather strip components) 7. Rear storage: Disappointing! The problem is the roof height. If you travel with small family (4) you must consider bringing empty luggage to the dealership. You may find a CX5 works better as luggage can stand vertically back to back?Try it! Or reconsider other brands. Don’t simply rely on volume data. 8. Purchase experience: Maybe this is happening every where but freight and PDI seems greatly inflated and acting like a surcharge. 9. Ergonomics: Not bad. Glad to see some buttons but the stitching on the steering wheel isn’t smooth, spokes are awkward and grip width at the 9 and 3 position aren’t good. You might agree after 500 miles. 10. Chassis should be an inch or 2 taller to achieve a better ride and provide greater ground clearance. Isn’t this meant to be a better off-asphalt Mazda? 11. Seats. Be sure you are ok with the Mazda designed butt-floss. This is weird and should be changed mid-production. Seats are hard. Bolsters are very hard. Access and egress for taller front passengers is a pain. 12. Look hard at the CX5 before you buy the 50. 13. Outward visibility is poor due to the tall door sills and low seating position. This is greatly annoying and further, the shape of the mirror looks nice but is less functional. I recommend looking at Subaru as outward visibility is fantastic. 14. Decorative exterior panels scratch very easily.
Very nice review. Can you plz do a compare preferred plus and premium plus? is it worth the difference for 1st new car for anyone who is looking for more into safety features and comfort.
@@AutoAcademics absolutely! Probably gonna wait for the Chicago auto show to look at vehicles so we can actually look at the vehicles and not get hounded by the sales people 😭
@@AutoAcademics I bought one three weeks ago, non-turbo premium plus, and I agree with everything you said on here! i’ve been really enjoying driving it and took it on a road trip! I even got to cross a few streams/creeks on a dirt road going to see some falls up in North Georgia. That was fun!

I don’t understand why Mazda doesn’t just make an suv with 4wd and locking differential. I love the style of Mazdas, but I need better ground clearance and a little more off road capability.
As this has near identical horsepower and more torque than an Audi Q5 I wonder why it is so much slower. Can a transmission make that big (1 second 0-60) a difference?
Yes, having more gears allows it to keep the vehicle in its peak power band longer and helps with acceleration and mpg. The mazdas have so much low end torque though they feel faster than they are.
Thank you, Anderson Salazar! We were hoping Acura would have sent us one when they sent the Integra, but I guess we'll have to wait a bit longer. 🤷🏾♂️ Thanks for watching!
I think I’m gonna buy one of these, they’re in stock and for the money it doesn’t get much better. Just wished they had a phev version. One the best looking in its class.
@@i8dapuszy i'm a tech guy, so i'm worried about it not working flawlessly which i've seen on other reviews it does... that would be a HUGE flag for me buying this CX-50.
I'll be honest -- i was looking at this car as my next purchase, and it looks like you get the best bang for your buck with it, but i test drove a gv70 today....I dont think i can go back to this cx50.
Lol. Huge price difference. If gv70 and cx-50 have the same price, well yeah i’ll take the gv70 as well. But i can only afford the cx-50 and im totally satisfied with it

How is the wireless charging and infotainment system? I’ve seen in other reviews it’s practically non functional
I appreciate that you demonstrated how many of the features work. I think that's the first time I've seen that in a CX-50 review. 😊

Is it posable, to convert Faringates?Miles to Celcies/Killometrs?? Also, can I get FM: 88-108 even numbers???
Yes, you can convert to metric standards. I'm not sure about the even FM numbers, though. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
