Gotta agree with Phil. Most guys hit one or maybe 2 versions of the pose well. Phil hits every variation of the most muscular well.
His attitude aside, Phil has the best most muscular. Conditioning, roundness, symmetry, all just come together perfectly

That's interesting facts. Denis James and big ramy train together. Both of this guys look phenomenal in the gym, but never nearly good on stage.

This is definitely Phil's pose. Most guys do one or maybe two of the most muscular poses well. Phil does all 3 amazingly well. Crab, hands clasped and hands on waist. Phil does all of them equally well.

This is very true, Phil hits multiple most muscular shots and all of them are top notch, he's the fucking gift, people just hate on him because he's the champ, the same people were cheering him on in 2010 and 2011 to beat Jay, .

looks like turtle with that gut but if we didnt have that to look at he would win I think kevin at his best would beat him even flex wheeler looked better but 2011 phil was incredible as well we will never know 20 yrs apart if they were in the same generation who knows

Sorry but Levrone is structurally much wider than Phil. Levrone definitely had superior delts and pecs, and might pip him in triceps also. Phil has him beat in the biceps, forearms, legs and back. He would beat Levrone at his best on back alone. Having said that I would rather Levrone's physique any day.

Levrone def appears structurally wider in poses like the lat spreads I'll agree with you there. But in the hands clasped he is just as narrow as Phil through the chest, maybe even more so. I still love em both in that pose and if I had to choose it's Levrone, but like I said Phil owns him in the crab so discussion is over lol
If we put levrone and phil side by side in there primes, levrone wouldnt beat phil in a single body part. Some even say triceps but line up phils triceps with levrones especially the side tricep pose and theres just no contest.

For the past two years I would probably agree that Roelly has surpassed Phil in this pose. But Phil's been better at it for longer and he's still very dominant in it... if that makes sense

It’s one of those unexplainable hate phenomenons that was blown out of proportion by memes and the internet in general such as, for example John Cena. A great wrestler and like Phil, a respectable human being with drive and integrity

I'm not a big Phil fan but he has the best most muscular i've ever seen,it's flawless. From the wrist size to forearms, to bi's n tri's, shoulders, traps, chest...all his muscle groups are fully proportional,no weaknesses.And that shoulder/arm separation is insane, not to mention those alien forearms that migrate high inbetween his biceps and triceps is just nuts and those two upper peck muscles look like they've grown upwards on a 45 degree angle from the bottom of his anterior delts over the topof an already thick chest.

Levrone is clear winner, of this pose. Phil might be more completed, but Kevins delts and traps smokes Phil.
I think Flex Wheeler's physique, especially in the later 90's and 00's, was extremely ugly. His arms were so fake and smooth it was disgusting to look at, and I can't believe people actually liked that physique. Look, I'm a guy who think's Ron is the best BB ever, so it's not the mass that's disgusting, it's just the fake ass arms.

I'd have to give the king of most muscular to Kevin Levrone. All variations: head on, side transition to side chest, hand over fist are all epic.
But best hands clasped to me is Shawn Ray. Symmetry is outrageous. Perfect. Pecs delts arms flow with total uniform aesthetics. Technically levrone is a little oversized in delts and arms in that pose but it's freaky and works. Same freaky arm size problem to Priest and Phil I think. But symmetrically, Shawn can't be touched. Notice that the narrower guys in the shoulder width: Phil Kevin Shawn all kick ass in the hands clasped version. Guys with brutally wide clavicles look funny in it. Yates Dillet, and cutler didn't even attempt it. It wouldn't look good on jay at all

Never quite liked Ronnies most muscular, when he stood alone the asymmetry through his chest and delts was too glaring and he had this sort of illusion of narrowness. Next to other people his sheer size and conditioning just won the pose for him. Phil honestly is the best pick for the win

Phil's left arm looks bigger than his right by like 1-2 inches
It is bigger by an inch or so. Remember him saying that but he also mentioned that other bodybuilders throughout history had the same thing because nobody is 100% symmetrical. Dexter for instance has a noticeable size discrepancy in the front double bicep.
Oh yeah when you start picking them apart you see it in a lot of guys. Like ronnie back right side is wider than his left side in his back double bicept
I think thats the way hes flexing. One arm is fully flexed while the other is holding the wrist. Atleast if your looking at the hands clasped mm.
The difference in size between Phil's left and right is the main thing I notice in all his most muscular poses.

Bodybuilding is all about personal preference. not everyone will agree with each other, and thats the best part. here is my take on the same pose.

No crowd has ever reacted to a pose at a show I have been at more that Markus Ruhl doing his most muscular. Ruuuuuuhhhhhhhlllllll!!!!!! Just a fucking roar like the lineup from Braveheart.
NO ONE in the history of mens professional bodybuilding owns any pose more than Levrone’s hands clasped most muscular in 1997. The first pic you put up of Kevin, Phil, and Roelly - That photo of Levrone is one of THE most iconic bodybuilding photographs ever taken.
And to make the statement that Levrone is “narrow” like Phil? Brother, sometimes I really have to double check that we are looking at the same photos. Then again, I once heard you refer to Jay Cutler as “shapely”.
Not hating, my man. Please don’t misunderstand or misinterpret my tone in any of these discussions. I know it’s a very subjective sport and there are so many factors to consider like lighting, angle, guys missing their peak etc. I guess that’s half the fun of following competitive bodybuilding. I’ve been debating the finer points since I bought my first copy of Flex magazine in early 1993. There was a photo of Shawn Ray on a pec deck that the second I saw it, I knew I was done for. Almost 30 years later and I still can’t forget seeing pics in that same Flex mag (that I still have somewhere) of Levrone at the ‘92 NOC. Everyone still talks about how Flex Wheeler at the ‘93 Arnold was the greatest physique to ever grace a posing Dias. Id put the ‘92 NOC Levrone up against ‘93 ASC Wheeler any day.
‘97 Levrone, when he almost made a clean sweep of the post-Olympia European Grand Prix shows was, hands down, one of the greatest combinations of mass and conditioning mixed with unbelievable shape and symmetry along with impeccable presentation ever. No version of Phil Heath could hang with the ‘97 Shaved head European Grand Prix Levrone.
Phil's chest is just to narrow...his physique does not flow at all. He does have a lot of muscle, but bodybuilding should not be just about size. This guy is about as aesthetically pleasing as a turd, remember when Bodybuilders used to be athletes? Now we have big bloated buffoons who stuff themselves with too much food and too many drugs till they look pregnant.
Levrone's chest is also narrow in the most muscular...

Am I the only one who feels that Dexter is the best in this pose? Seriously, his hands clasped looks almost as good as Levrone's and Heath's, but that crab looks absolutely insane!!!!!

I Have to agree with you. Not a fan of Phil or his cocky attitude but theres no denying his completeness, size and insertions. Def got the best most muscular overall but I'd still rather look like levrone or better yet flex.
People can say what the want about Phil but you HAVE to admit between 2011 and 2013 he was THE perfect bodybuilder. He had a great midsection back then. Ronnie in 98' and 99' is superior in many ways but he had worse abs and no outer head on his tricep. Also, why is it that so many bodybuilders can't hit a crab most muscular 🤔? You would think it's and easy thing to do.

Dennis Newman - Turned pro in 94, I think? Dennis was something of a protege of Shawn Ray’s. He was slated to be the next big thing in mens pro bodybuilding along with Mike Francois. Unfortunately, like RIGHT after he earned his pro card, Dennis was diagnosed with leukemia.
He went through chemo and wherever the cancer wasn’t able to damn near kill him, the chemo came close.
He tried to make a comeback and even did an ill advised posing routine at one of the Olympias (?) during the final placings being announced. I vaguely recall Yates being on stage and later saying that while he admired Dennis for his fight with the leukemia, that he thought the stunt that he pulled at the show was disrespectful of the competitors.
He sort of disappeared after that. I know he did a few shows some years later and was always a popular guy at expos and such, but he was never able to come anywhere near his early potential. Luckily he proved to be a pretty smart guy and chose health and life over 90’s era competitive bodybuilding.

I like Markus Ruhl! Your choice of Phil Heath is certainly understandable but when I saw this video my first thought was Markus! I think as far as bodybuilding history MR was under rated. 💪mrwtby
If you don't know too much about Dennis Newman, you should know this guy was probably just out of the juniors in that pic but got ill with leukemia before his career really got going.
He guest posed at a show I competed in in 1991 and I couldn't believe not only how big he was (and I've met Dorian, Ronnie and Kovacs etc) so young, but also how aesthetic and complete he was.
If he hadn't have got I'll I really think he would have been a possible future Mr O.
By the way Charles Clairmonte is much more of a contender for best front double bicep. He just flows in that particular pose and looks like a work of art that I don't think anyone betters.

I hate Phil Heath as a person but I do think he's the best overall bodybuilder.
I always liked Dennis Wolf crab pose.
Guys with really full and round muscle bellies look better in the most muscular. This is 100% genetic guys like Flex Wheeler, Phil Heath, Lee Priest, Kevin Levrone and Roelly Winklaar all have this in common. Their muscles are really round and pop more than other bodybuilders.
I'd give it to Haney in his prime. It was like his upper pecs, delts and traps had reproduced twice

Yeah interesting vid. The only issue is yer comparing a lot of different poses and thus it gets hard to really find a winner. You're right on a number of things, for example Yate's Most Muscular (hands clasped) doesn't look great, the flow is awful and definitely Shawn blows him away. But did you ever see Yates it a crab pose? Holy crap! His was one of the best and completely blew Shawn and Levrone away! So it's really funny how slight variations of this pose can really make or break it.
Overall I'd be tempted to hand Shawn Ray the trophy. I just think he AVERAGES out to looking the best in the following;
1) Most muscular (hands clasped)
2) Crab
3) Both hands on hips
4) One Hand on hip, the other near hip
5) One Hand on hip, the other in the air above head
6) Both arms behind back.
I think those are all the 'most muscular' poses and variations, many never even attempted pose number 5 which Shawn pulls off beautifully. There's a lot going on in the most muscular and the abdominal layout really counts, both Ray and Levrones mid sections make them hard to beat in these poses as well.
So if you consider the poses above, 1-6, Ray might not score the highest in all of them, but if you tally the total up I think he would win. Whereas Yates might smash Ray in the crab he would lose in every other variation (he never even attempted the other shots perhaps because he looked so bad in them).
Levrone would be a close second to Ray overall for these other variations I think (poses 1-6), however I still think Ray takes it. Phil as impressive as he is I just think his mid section (the pattern/split of his abs etc) goes against him and the overall flow is not as pleasing.
So I would just argue this pose has a lot more than mass going on, Shawn made himself look so much bigger in this pose than he really was, he made Yates look SMALL... like wtf. I love BB for that, the art of illusion etc.
A good vid might be front relaxed comparisons. Lee Labrada looks incredible in the line up, or waiting to be picked out in this stance, like a greek statue, perfection. I never liked many of his poses but just 'standing there' he could look perfect! (you can see a little of what I mean in your video at 16:57).
