  • This video explains all useful information about the LoRaWAN protocol. You will understand the LoRa modulation with the channels, bandwidth, coding rate and Spreading Factor. Then you will understand how you can communicate with thousands of end-devices using the frequency multiplexing, the Chirp Spread Spectrum and the duty cycle. The next chapter is to present the different network architecture that could be public, private or hybrid. For any of them, the network infrastructure is the same with the end-device, the LoRaWAN gateway and finally the Network Server and Application Server. If you want to increase your network coverage, you will be able to increase the power, or to change the spreading factor, and the Network can help you with this choice by using what we call the ADR (Adaptive Data Rate). We will also explain the different classes A, B and C as well as the downlink capabilities of each class. Then we will have a look inside the LoRaWAN Network Server to see the uplink, downlink data frame, as well as the mac command frames to manage the LoRaWAN protocol. Finally at the end of the first part, we will explain how you can connect your IoT platform to the LoRaWAN server via MQTT or HTTP protocols.
During the second part, we speak about roaming to extend the network coverage, but also densify the Gateway which will improve the overall network capacities. Finally, we will speak about the FUOTA service to help you update a LoRaWAN device over the air. It uses other service like time synchronization, multicast, and data fragmentation.
To help you to learn more about LoRaWAN, you can download the free ebook or watch our video on the elearning platform. All information on our website : www.univ-smb.fr/lorawan/en/

The best lecture indeed. You enclosed the whole LoRaWAN network into 40 minutes of lecture. Please post some lectures on LoRaWAN security. Thanks

To be honest that's the perfect lecture I have never watched before. Everything is crystal clear and easy to follow. I studied the book and I have a question that how can we demonstrate the Replay attack as given in the example?

to send a replay attack, you need to copy the raw payload of a device frame on your gateway. Send it later to a the Network Server with APB the end-device registered. If the network server is not protected against replay attack than the user will receive the decrypted data that he didn't send. If so, the replay attack worked.

@@sylvainmontagny thanks for your reply. The network server is always protected like TTN, Actile, etc so how do we know if it is not protected? I have sent a request message to your linkedin, is it possible to carry out my research work under your supervision? I am working on LoRaWAN security and it's my final year of Ph.D.
      Thanks

Hello, can anyone here guide me about how can i use the LoRaSIM simulator and using it to simulate a LoRa Network, nodes, gateways and Network servers. Also, the use of the adaptive data rate on the LoRaSIM.

Can the LoRaWAN end device be used as a tag for a moving object like a forklift or stationary object like a wheelchair ramp? Can it be safe from environmental harsh conditions like oil, heat, extreme cold, rains and flood? Thank you in advance.

Yes, there are LoRaWAN devices for industrial asset tracking that are rugged with IP67 or IP68 level.
