@@Archynan Probably not. You're going to want to remove the motor board as it probably has a thermistor that would be tripped when switching over to Lipo. I could be wrong but that's my guess. Also, I advise upgrading the wiring when switching to a Lipo. Running that kind of current through small gauge wire is actually dangerous. It may look like a lot but I promise you if you have decent soldering skills this mod is pretty simple.
Ok thanks you, and thanks for the fast response. I may stick with stock Rival blasters, but eventually I’m hoping to do some more modding with my old stryfe.
Archynan I tried a 3S Lipo without touching the internals just to test, it ran a few times then the motors die down until the rev trigger does nothing. I’m assuming the circuit contains some safety measures that kill current flow if too high. I’ve since removed all the internals and it runs fine, although my shots also pull hard to the right.
Yes, the motor board definitely has some limiting diodes, rectifier, or whatever they use to do it as my PCB skills are somewhat limited to know what I'm talking about lol. But I actually don't use RC packs, I use hi-amp 18650s w/ 3D printed sleeve spacers, or 26650 cells arranged in series, then a conductive copper spacer to fill the gap and make the circuit. I'm not claiming this to be superior to LiPo packs, but 18650s provide more than enough current for these motors. This way, however, I am able to quickly change between 2S, 3S, 4S etc, without needing multiple LiPo packs to do it.
Oh man, my kids and I are gonna have an awesome summer. I’ve been stacking up Nerf Chargers (Sale at JCPENNEY). I have 10 of them... brand new in the box. Thanks for this VERY detailed mod guide.
Thank you for this video. I just finished completing this mod on 3S and it went from 83 FPS to 125 FPS! It runs like a beast! Followed your great guide. Biggest hassle was getting the switch to fit perfectly. Added a voltmeter in the empty space in the front grip that displays motor voltage during rev.
@@jeffreymuu5451 if you have the money to buy a premodded one of Etsy, I'm sure you can afford the tools which aren't expensive. Knowing from experience.
Like buttoned, 'SMASHED!' Great video. I saw the charger at my local Wal-Mart yesterday. I fought myself from buying it just bc I'm not into modding motorized blasters. I'm terrified of doing any soldering. Even though I have a Dremel and all the resources to mod a charger. But, after watching this video I'm thinking I should definitely try it. Thank you! Thank you for taking the time to make this guide vid. Thank you 💓
I followed this tutorial a few months back and at first I wasn't happy with the curving shots, but I find it kind of useful now and I discovered you can actually control the curving shots by rotating the blaster side to side.
Thank you very much! I followed it all the way through and modded my first rival blaster! I’m trying to get it in between 100-120 FPS, do you think a 2s Lipo will do the trick?
when i searched and found this video top of my results it already had earned a thumbs up. after watching all the work I seriously doubt I honestly will mod the 2 mxx-1200's i picked up bnib for $10 each, great for indoor target practice. Dollar store has the panasonic alkaline batteries for $7, im still running the firat set but after a dozen to 20 reloads on day 1 the speed was definitely reduced Would love to try this mod and wow great video, stellar work. But probably not before I buy a second or third round of batteries. Definitely will use your links
You should call this segment OCD modding. I'm not knocking it. You did an amazing job. I've just never thought to go that far myself. (unless I was on Adderall)
I followed this but ended up making it full auto I obviously put something back together wrong can you post a better shot of the upper piece of the loading tube where the lever is suppose to move the balls forward
I may have missed it; but any reason to not keep the existing rev switch, and wire the lipo directly into the board? Melt it? Existing wires for the switch incapable of handling the voltage/current? I thought batteries in series were functionally additive and would effectively be pushing more juice than the lipo alone?
The thing I like about the Charger, is that for me (being an adult) it is one of the first Nerf guns that has a long length of pull between butt and trigger/grip. I'm surprised I haven't heard this mentioned yet. The Perses, with it's short LOP feels like it should be wielded by a midget!
Hello, greetings from Mexico, it is the best video that shows an excellent modification. Ask what type of switch did you use? I wish you could help me. greetings thank you .
@Naptown Nerf I'm looking to mod a nerf blaster (possibly this one) but need to be able to set it up for single trigger use (rev motor AND firing). It looks like your mod does this, is that the case?
Thank you so much for your video ours would not work. I took one back to the store and only because I saw that the door had a switch where we able to get ours working.
I actually lucked out and found the same style switches at one of my local hardware stores, however they are only 15amp, which work but probably won't last for long.
dude great video. cant wait to mod our nerf someday. i just discovered your channel. do you have a video for easier mods for beginners? would love to check it out. thanks!
Great Video and instructions. I just got done modding my charger. What a difference! I too, have the hop up issue where the rounds curve to the right. By any chance did you figure out how to correct it?
I would also like to find out if that curve ball effect can be removed or reduced. I had tried adding weight to the ammo with a BB and that did improve it a bit but it is too much work to do each ammo ball.
Did it curve before the mod? Just picked one of these up and it looks like the cartridge, flywheels and barrel are all on different lines. It looks like the flywheels would push the round into the left side of the barrel (looking down range) causing a counter-clockwise rotation (looking at the round from above) and hence a curve to the right. Increasing the FPS would probably just extenuate the curve. The only solution I can see would be to adjust either the flywheels or the barrel so they are in line with each other. Not sure why the would be like that in the first place... Granted I haven't even shot this thing yet as I already have a 3s lipo and don't want to get C batteries.
@Crazy Stranger should have bought 1 set at least to test before and after, I wonder how much the mod costs in total including the whole setup of handy hands, solder and knife, those cutter snips and spools of wire. looks like I'll be spending a lot but be setup for future builds with and for my son. So absolutely worth it
The curve sounds like an issue with the hop-up tab (black rubber tab in barrel) being a bit overzealous. Filing it down to adjust the spin it puts on the rounds should fix it
You might want to get a "solder sucker" for getting rid of the solder you're trying to remove, then you won't need to jam a screwdriver under the circuit board.
Akash Deep Singh I’m running mine on 2s with no switch replacement and it’s working just fine. Of course switch feel would be much better with a replacement, but just to switch to 2s lipo is about 20 min to pop open case, remove battery connectors, open up the bay a bit to fit the lipo, solder an XT60 and your shooting at about 110 FPS, with a$30 blaster on sale!
Just buy a Nerf Rival Hera if you want a removable mag. It's basically THIS, only supports mags and rechargeable batteries. I'm sure you can mod those as well. It will just be more expensive if you screw something up
I can’t say for certain, but the removal of the board is bc the way he wired the blaster. The switch he added replaces the need for a board that controls everything. Just a guess, but seems somewhat accurate.
I found three at Walmart on clearness for $7.47 each I'm 17 but feel 10 again my gf enjoyed the surprise when I took her off roading gave her one of the guns and I just said run and we had a shootout in the middle of the woods and lost all the ammo
I was thinking. Why is the nerf community using xt60 connectors? Deans is much more used in things as airsoft etc. But i also thing it would be a problem to plug a 11.1v li-ion to a rival charger LMAO

I was thinking of doing this and once I saw the whole thing I was like “hell no!” Good thing I can buy a modded Charger on Etsy for a decent price.
How did you find it?
You can find them on Ebay or Etsy
Well not all of us are knuckle scrappers and actually have time (money) and skills to do it ourselves

This would be cool if you used a Milwaukee M12 pack and a drill battery receiver in the front, making it easy to quickly exchange batteries.
Awesome, now to try full auto charger
"reload every two seconds" lol
Exactly... I'd rather keep S/A action on the Charger and not waste my (limited) shots.
This works better as a Carbine
Get a Perses, Nemesis, or better, a Prometheus if you can afford the bragging rights, for an full auto Rival blaster.

What voltage battery did you run? I only had time to skim through the video. Ill watch the whole thing later.
Great guide!! You gotta love those giant battery compartments!!!
I think a more important mod the community should focus on, would be......... *How to center align the barrel*
hi, what button did you use for the nerf? What are its characteristics?
Hi, You could Say me how amperes and volts use battery lipo that You use ir?...sorry for My bad English.
Can I buy modes nerf guns like this? If so where
Great guide as usual!
Mildly disappointed you didn't add in mag compatibility so it becomes a legit P90... But hey, 140FPS is kinda nuts too XD
I'd just get a Zues. Give this to the kids so they won't lose the mags.
Nicely done!

Would it probably be fine to use 18 awg wire? Sorry if that's a noob question lol
Dude that is an awesome guide great job!
Great video!
Dont change the pop up tab u can learn to shoot it like it is n then u can shoot around corners slightly
Im doing this mod asap gotta order my lipo
Does it have to be a 21Amp Micro Switch? Or can I also do a 15Amp one?
15 should be fine
I have a suggestion you should not fast forward during the soldering some people might not know how to.
Can the motors handle a 2s lipo on it's own? can I just wire the connections to a battery?
Yes. The blasters motors are rated to 9.6V. A 2s LiPo is only 7.2 volts.
Do you have a rapidstrike video?
My stock Heracles has a slight left deviation on most shots.
Do you think this would work with a drill battery??
Yes but your Chargers motors are only rated to 9.6v and 50w which I'm sure any drill battery will just burn out in seconds.
What size motors are in this?
Bought one I have to mod as it didnt work out of the box...
Hi, how come it didnt turn on when c batteries were installed? I bought it new
Maybe its not enough power?
Thanks
Did you make sure you clicked the jam door closed if it’s not clicked it will not work
Yeah, the door was closed tight and screw in , still no sign of power
What size are the motors?
Questions can u buy the switch from a local electric shops and what it is called ,tnxz in advance
From my experience, it's very difficult to find switches like these in local shops.
I actually lucked out and found the same style switches at one of my local hardware stores, however they are only 15amp, which work but probably won't last for long.
Couldn't you just cut the wires of the battery and put on one's for a lipo
what you just said was very stupid sonny
Why not just use a 9.6v NiMH and use all the stock components?
Unless the 9.6v NiMH also has a high discharge rate like a 3s LiPO, won't offer the same performance.
