  • If you don’t understand that shifter on the left in your 4XE, I hope this video helps.

    Great video! New 4xe owner here and had these same questions about 4H Auto.

    I have the 2024 4xe Willy’s and have buttons for everything lol . I have had countless 4x4’s over the last 40 years and my last 6 vehicles have been Jeep (it’s a jeep thing you wouldn’t understand) lol however I’m new to all this modern technology now with 10,000 hard miles on my Willy’s it still drives like day one

    Very good information, like all your videos.
    How does 4H Auto work mechanically?
    Is there a permanent differential or is it a clutch?
    How is this clutch connected?
    Could you make a video about this with images of how this clutch works?

    In the 2.0l Jeep w.rambler manual (2021) it states that the front axle is engaged in in 4Auto but power is only sent to to the rear and then if loss of traction is detected 4WD will engage. Fuel efficiency will be reduced in 4Auto.
    For variable driving conditions, the 4WD AUTO mode can be used. In this mode, the front axle is engaged, but the vehicle's power is sent to the rear wheels. Four-wheel drive will be automatically engaged when the vehicle senses a loss of traction. Because the front axle is engaged, this mode will result in lower fuel economy than the 2WD mode

      My head tells me the same thing; that 2WD HAS to be more efficient but I've never been able to prove it to myself. I've done test after test and can't find any difference in range or fuel economy. Even the engineers couldn't find any noticeable change in efficiency during their testing. In my interview with one of the engineers, he stated that there was a slight hit to efficiency in 4 hi auto when the windshield wipers were on. I don't remember what is engaged in the front axel when the wipers are on but there's something that is enabled to give a quicker response during wet conditions. It sure seems like there would have to be added resistance. Maybe it's such a low percentage that it's just not quantifiable over 22 miles of electric range or even over the course of a tank of gas.

      @@Wrangler4XEFansI wouldn't have thought the difference would be much. I'm in Europe with 6$ plus per gallon so every little helps though :) I wonder if it increases wear and tear? I just leave it off on tarmac unless it rains as it's just not needed. (no snow here where I live)

    I'm always in 4 auto, but I'll shift to 4H if the roads are snow covered

    How does the traction control button play into that?

    Can you please show the trick on how to switch from 4h part time to 4l and back? It's very hard to switch from 4l to 4h on my 4xe and takes a lot of muscle, and I sometimes feel I might break it.

      Put the transmission in neutral. You have to get all the pressure off the transfer case.

    • @jeevansreenivas5087
      @jeevansreenivas5087 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Wrangler4XEFans I do put it in neutral, bring the jeep to a complete stop, and with my foot firm on the brakes. Shifting from 4H part time to 4L is relatively easier, but pushing it back from 4L to 4H part time is extremely hard.

      @@jeevansreenivas5087 I try to get it down to like 1 or 2 MPH, put the main shifter in neutral then push the transfer case in to neutral while it’s still rolling. It’s sort of a process but it seems like it makes it easier. But I bring it to a full stop before going from neutral to 4 high.

    You can also shift from 2H to 4H Auto while driving. But at what maximum speed is this allowed?

    • @Wrangler4XEFans
      @Wrangler4XEFans  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t think there’s a max speed since it’s mostly electronic changes.

    • @aus935
      @aus935 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the max speed allowed is 72km/h when changing from 2H to 4H Auto

      Yes, the wheels are all locked so you get the hop! I did this by accident and now double check before heading off that I am in 2H or 4 Auto. I leave it in 4 Auto for winter.

      That makes me wonder what’s going on. It really shouldn’t be any different from 2WD unless it senses wheel slip. I don’t know if it would make a difference but is it a Rubicon or a Sahara?
