    Hi Craig,still getting good tips even though im watching them arse to front lol,all good!!nah you need to work on that mate!lol 20:15 ,,,,,,of course in ireland again wat we used to do is return the window/doorjamb with a 180mm
    Cut facing out leaving a 10mm gap straight up with 6 inch dpc up either wall or window,recessed back from outer leaf for windows to fit in,sorry for rammbling on lol

      Thanks mate appreciate you following the build 🙂 even if you are watching it from end to start 😂 I’ve got them in episodes mate, the two extensions we are working on in the most recent videos start at episode 8 🙂
      Yeah mate, thats a proper cavity closer isn’t it. It’s never spec’d over here to be honest. Always leave them open and put the plastic cavity closer in after its built.
      No need to be sorry mate, its good to see how others do things 🙂🤝

    Great video, well explained. If the neighbours ground level is higher than your extension, how wd u arrange for the dpc..? How would u fit the insulation, wd it need to go below the dpc otherwise it wd leave a cold spot..?

      Thank you mate I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
      Regarding your question, it’s not something we have came across much to be honest. That said, all of this would already be planned out by the time we recived drawings to quote the work, with the right reports in there showing the method to combat it.
      Of the top of my head I’d say double damp course. Your first at your damp level and the other 150 above the neighbours ground level. I’d be looking to waterproof that external wall too, a dpc membrane there/ tanking system. Like you say too, the insulation would need to be on your dpc, not the neighbours otherwise you will get that cold spot.
      If possible back fill with pea gravel too for a better soak away against your wall.
      Better still, make the extension smaller to allow a retaining wall against their high ground level then build the extension set back from that. That way your extension would be away from their ground level.
      A few ideas anyway, like i say though. Someone already does the thinking regarding that 🤣 🙂

    Love your work Craig ,do you boys ever have radon barrier to build over where it steps down from inside floor level to 3 bricks lower on the outside,then run your 3 course back up to dpc?must be just an Ireland thing

    • @CraigToddBrickwork
      @CraigToddBrickwork  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ant really appreciate that and glad your enjoying the videos mate :) I've never heard of radon barrier until now, just googled it to see what you mean and yeah defo not used it. thought you may have named it different to us as a cavity tray. We use cavity trays right around a building over here, but not often in the work I do to be honest. I see how the radon works and it looks good, similar to cavity trays around the bottom isn't it. Just rather than getting it up-to damp and dropping a tray down 225 from the internal blockwork the radon goes through the floor, down 225, across the cavity and lay the brick work on top of your radon then you build up-to damp. I think thats right is it? What's the reason behind using this method mate :)

      This is a thick red barrier we put in floors before the concrete is poured to stop radon gas coming up through the floor

    • @CraigToddBrickwork
      @CraigToddBrickwork  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see, thanks mate 🙂 nah we dont have them specs here. Dpm for the floors lapped up the block work and an 18” dpc lapped down the blockwork and tape the joint.
      I’ve used a gas barrier once on a small site of 4 houses. I cant remember how it went now, i remember is was really awkward with all the plastic, dpc, gas memb & cavity tray everything wanted to slide 🤣
