Wow, I was struggling yesterday. Hitting the ball crisp. Saw this video last night went out today and my results were so crisp. I was hitting the ball so solid all day. Thank you guys.
Hi Rick and Eric, great drill, I've purchased the Y to Y program and have started the drills, I read a book you guys may know this book Harvey Penick's little red book, he always started new players off with short game and pitching , and this is in essence what you are doing ,love this program ive watched the drills many times each time getting a little more understanding .
Hey Jason! Good question but I'm not sure I'm 100% sure what you mean by rotating to it vs making a straight line toward it? Can you explain what you mean by each of those so I can best answer?
@@PerformanceGolfZone to clarify, I think if it as two ways to get the second Y past the ball. One way is almost like a U shape - being hands down and rotate to past impact to the second Y. The other way is a feeling of a straight line like throwing the hands from the top of the trail shoulder to the place past the ball to get to the second Y
Could you comment a little more on the trail wrist position on the follow through? It seems that Rick Smith is condoning a full release of the wrist about one or two feet past impact when the majority of pro golfers still have their trailing wrists bent at this point. Disclaimer: I'm not a pro golfer, but it seems that all golf instruction is geared toward making us amateurs look like one.
Hey! We'll do more on this in the future for sure..... Trail wrist should still be bent at impact......but.....its in the process of straightening. Usually fully straight by about 45* past impact (few feet past impact) The better the body motions the later it releases.....worse body motions (lack of rotation ) or open club face will always release earlier -Eric
Sounds like something to try. And slowly I’m learning the alphabet. First we had the “K” at setup. Next we had the “X” factor swing. Then we had the “L to L” drill. And now the “Y to Y”. Anxious to learn the next letter.
Hey Mark! Yes same concept. If you speed is lower you want to feel like you are throwing it a bit earlier.....so you have enough loft and hit up some to max the distance you get relative to your speed
I'm interested in this course but the link in the comment doesn't go to Rick's course and when I look for it on the Performance Golf site, the price is $197, not $47 as mentioned in the video. Can you provide a link to the discounted program?
The following comment is my opinions, nearly all coaches are not good enough athletes to tell you how to swing it will lead you to a tense and unathletic series of small body movements and constrained body positions that will rob you of whatever athletic potential you do have and there is no "technique" that will counteract your athletic inability only supposed insightful techniques that will constrain any athletic ability you do have. I believe Tiger Woods dominated his generation athletically mainly because of this type of coaching being imposed on all young potential rivals of his generation until around 2010-20 when many new athletic swings were developed by younger athletes ignoring this terrible imposition of individually constrained unathletic positions and movements.

Rick Smith is such a legend.
What a video!

When getting to that second Y past the ball, are you rotating to it from the top or making a straight line toward it?

Was coming into this video thinking it was gking to be some bs. But that drill is actually great at visualising the key part of the swing.
Thanks Jamie :)

Great video thanks
Thanks Stuart!!

It’s just like that GEM training aid !
I like it!
Hey Eric, does this same swing thought apply to the driver?

@@PerformanceGolfZone Thank you!
Not surprised Eric that you hit punch supposed to be 30 to 40 yards that goes 115 yards. LOL 😂
Reminds me of the Milo video. 😂 🏌️⛳
Lol 100% Tony....
Easier said than done for me :)

Drill only works if you use body rotation to square the face
Hey Jesse!
For sure you need to move your body well---thats always the case!
Best
-Eric
20% of the swing affects 80% of the results 75% of the time
Excellent job though of follow up detail questions……paints a better picture
Appreciate it!!

save your money, play checkers!

Great drill however I might add that hogan was the best golfer of all time not Jack
No that’s tiger
Haha I hear ya---both legends!
-Eric
@@PerformanceGolfZoneJones Could've caught em both if he hadn't retired early
Jack is the top of the mountain, that's who tiger was chaseing.ben has the best golf swing in history.
Jack... then Tiger... then Hogan. But remove 'putting' from the game... Hogan becomes #1...
Bobby jones was the best player and he wasn’t even a professional
Wrong … scooter mcgavin ..best ever
