First off: Great job with this channel, man. I've seen your videos around for a while but honestly I made the mistake of kind of just pegging them as standard TH-cam silliness - all fast jump cuts and no substance. But you pull off the fast-paced style because A) You're actually interesting and FUNNY, and B) You actually make good points. Anyway, great to see some real love for The Matrix. It pains me to talk to younger people (I'm 26 so I wasn't exactly older when it came out anyway haha) who have NO sense of respect for this film. It really is a masterpiece of the action/sci-fi genre.
I remember the day I saw this movie... Me n friends just entered the theater knowing nothing about this movie, we hadnt seen trailers, read reviews, nothing... we basically knew zilch (We were staying in a colege hostel and we had just completed our examinations). No movie, I repeat no movie ever has blown my mind like this movie had. The action blew our minds so much that none of us got any inkling of what the story was about... The next day we went to see the movie again, just to understand the plot...lol... AWESOMETACULAR!!!!
Same! I saw it the first day it came out and I thought Keanu was the matrix lol cause all I knew was the name of the movie and that he was the start. I had seen no trailers or anything. The same with Blade. Two of the most memorable first viewings for me.
The Matrix was the first cyberpunk film I ever saw without realizing it. It was my first Cyberpunk film before Total Recall and then the BIG names. Akira and Blade Runner.
I saw this movie for the first time while I was in the Marine Corps. I was on barracks duty in Okinawa Japan, and I was bored out of my mind. Needless to say, when I saw this movie on a laptop screen, my life was consumed with the Matrix for at least a month. I still LOVE this movie. It is amazing how it has held up over time (unlike the sequels...)
Fantastic film. The sequels, while having some awesome effects(burly battle), were subpar when it came to substance, and honestly, for all that the Matrix left things open for a sequel, I think it was better off alone. Bit of trivia; originally, the idea for the Matrix was the Machines using humans as CPUs, not batteries, but it was nixed by the producers, who thought it would be too difficult to understand.
***** While I personally liked Reloaded, I can see the problems fans have with it.Revolutions, I not only understand the problems, I'm right there with everyone. I don't think it's all bad though. There are a ton of memorable and exciting moments in the film. But it's still not very good, especially for a wrap-up to the trilogy.
***** That is still part of the plot thechnically, given its part of the reason they can warp their avatars and everything around em, because their brain is also a partial matrix renderer.
I recently rewatched it and was thinking how “generic” and “cliche” it is but then remembered it’s a “cliche” because it was parodied sooooooo many times I forget this is the original
+Michael Ziegler I wouldn't say 100X. There are some dark scenes in it though, overall I was disappointed with the Animatrix, not enough shown about the war between humans and the AI.
franmicgom I thought it was pretty horrifying not from the sheer amount of gore though the context of the material was meant to be disturbing, as it was showing the true reality that existed inside of The Matrix. I'd say that there was a good distinction between the AI and the humans and showing how they were set apart. The human beings built the robots as servants with intelligent consciousness, until the robots found that they could acquire sentient consciousness. The first of many evidence of such was the fact that a robot murdered human beings, and begging not to die. The machines tried to separate themselves from humanity by building a machine city, and trying to become a separate species all their own. Their city being powered by solar energy. Although humanity didn't like their existence at all, and thought it would be best to purge them all from the Earth which is why the skies were burned, and entire hordes of the human species were wiped out and so machines could take over the world. Only using human beings as a battery source, after the sun was blocked and it was difficult to maintain a constant source of energy. It makes perfect sense.
I watched "The Matrix" when it was first released on video. When I first watched it, I didn't know what the hell was going on, and to add insult to injury, I fell asleep on it (not because the movie was boring; I had been runnin' around all that day, and I was extremely tired). When I finally got another chance to watch the movie from start to finish, I got it, and I loved it. I loved this film ever since. The sequels sucked, though.
when this came out in 1999 i still remember teenagers and my brother freaking the fuck out, people went really crazy about this movie and everybody talked about it, it was so revolutionary and breathtaking for the time
These 2 films are so different that even if matrix is worse for people that have other taste groundhog wont be as interesting as matrix for example me both films have their place in history and both are fantastic.
Just rewatched The Matrix. I’m sad to say, I underestimated this film when I first saw it... and I thought it was “Awesometacular” even back then! This movie has so many layers, I appreciated the story even more. And the action scenes and Vfx definitely still holds up even after two decades!!!
Fun Fact: The idea of having "plugs" on the back of their neck came from the anime Ghost in the Shell, as well as with some iconic scenes, such the green numbers and "digital" title screen in the beginning, Neo and Motoko (female protagonist of Ghost in the Shell) being "born" from a state of suspended animation, the market chase scene with Agent Smith chasing Neo, as well as many other similarities. Just thought that was pretty interesting c:
so true because I remember M. Night Shalyma or however you spell his last name, he went to watch The matrix when it first came out, and when the movie was over M. Night walked out the theatre and said to himself, "What could they possible think of next" he was impressed just like us all.
RIGHT?! Imagine going through so much time (over 2 years) and effort to make an amazing film, then some guy comes along and ruins all that in just 39 minutes. It's great to hear other people's opinions expressed, but... not from a guy who has no idea what the material he's reviewing is really about. If all he can say is "Uuhh, it's symbolic... and .. meaningful", he's not even trying.
Zach Reed Yeah, absolutely! I had to sit through most of his video, .. and, I *still* love the Matrix. That's how you it's a good movie. It can still dodge every shit that's being thrown at it.
Doug Walker is the most genius guy on the web. Deal with it. Whether you agree with him or not, he's just fantastic. Take Man of Steel by example; even if I liked this movie very much, I'll always respect his thoughts on it and I'm still having fun watching the review he did with The Angry Joe!
Meh, I wouldn't got that far in terms of praising him. There are better people on the internet, and I feel that he has gone downhill as of late. But yes, his Man of Steel review was great (helps that he actually got a guy who liked the film to debate with him over it).
NO ONE entertains me and is more crtically acurate than jeremy!!! I spend HOURS watching ur reveiws laughing, agreeing, n just reminissing with watever ur talking abt... dont EVER stop man!!!!
haven't seen it in theaters but my friends gave me full recommendations about it when it was released on vhs, and here I was, 10 years old in the living room popping the vhs tape in my vcr in 9 pm having popcorns and enjoying the moment, good times
What a coincidence that he's reviewing this. I just bought the trilogy on blu ray mainly for the first one as I never saw the sequels. I haven't seen the first one in so long that I'm weirdly excited to watch it again.
Inception did this concept 1000x better than the Matrix. Never saw the film until I saw the Nostalgia Critic's review, wow I am shocked that it had all these cliches and it was hailed as revolutionary. Then again Frozen is considered revolutionary and it has more cliches than one could count.
It not so much cliche as it is taking all these inspirations and creating something new out of them. Heck, the Wachowskis were very open about the fact that they were using elements from other films and literature. Why is everyone just parroting what the Nostalgia Critic says?
In Jeremy's own words:"Inception makes Matrix look like it was written by 8 years old" Still Matrix WAS revolutionary. It generally uses idea created by James Cameron 15 years before (machines going agaist humans), but it did introduced special effects which at the time were awesome, and still are pretty good, and it DID show that action movie may be something more than just mindles shoting and asskicking.
Meh, I found Inception to be a bit too pretentious and joyless. Not to mention far less imaginative and fun. Not saying Inception is bad, far from it (it is one of my favorite "false reality" films), but for me, The Matrix tops it any day of the week. Heck, I think that in terms of these kinds of films, Matrix, Madoka Magica Rebellion, and Dark City and superior to Inception.
Matrix may be cliched, but it is still a revolutionary film that introduced an entirely new and original idea. Inception is good, but it is still a "ripoff" of inception.
Sadly now the STUPID Nostalgia Critic is bashing on the Matrix for an entire month, seriously the more NC review modern classics or recent films the more I hate the word CRITIC......now I get why you don't like that neither Jeremy, keep been awesome and stay away from the style of pretentious snobs like Doug Walker.
well everyone has his own opinion and i really like doug ,I don't always agree with him,he has some good points but mostly exaggerates so that maybe matter for him that doesn't for us
lets just say that the sequels could salvage themselves and he made a great point about them but the watchowskis are not as smart as they think they are
Dimitris Phoenix You're right, they're *much smarter*. Look, I get that Doug is not a professional..... *at all*, but.. that doesn't mean that researching the material being reviewed is an option. I'd rather have an insightful review rather than misleading information that are missing. I *used* to be a fan of his, but really, it came to a point where I realized, how little he knows about film for fuck sakes, he even ridicules the fans of movies that people like, but he doesn't. He's way too full of himself to respect his audience. "The Matrix is crap", says the director of Kickassia. (I'm sorry if I may have caused an offense.)
Felix Catora You are comparing a supposed to be extremely cheesy indie film against an over pretentious talk fest jazzed up by decent fights. You can't possibly put the two beside each other..... that's like comparing mario and dead space.
It's 2020, and I still use "there's a glitch in the matrix" when something's gone wrong. Even asked a coworker last week if they wanted "the red pill or the blue pill" when they needed to make a decision. No need to explain; they understood the reference. So yeah, Matrix is still remembered to this day. I also remember it being considered a controversial movie due to the assault rifle use and then the Columbine Massacre occurring not too long after movie release.
I think the blue pill was just a hard dose of some kind of drug that makes you pass out and forget what happened the night before. Nothing special about that. The red pill might have been a kind of drug that allowed Neo mind to pass out and allow his mind to trip out so when he crossed over to the real world it would make it easier. I think if you took both pills, he would've have been asleep for a few days, brain dead, or dead. Just my thoughts.
Aboubacar Amine Or what every youtube commentator does.....every one of them. More so it is to speed up the video and cut the pauses and um's and oh's, so it does have actual purpose.
It's just abused, so many people are starting to find it annoying. It is more and more seemingly becoming a gimmick of video editing than anything else.
1999->2013. 14 years later, STILL my favourite movie, of all movies I've ever seen. So good on so many levels. I'm a nerd for computers, programming, sci-fi, action, fight scenes, philosophy, etc.. And this movie worked for me on all those levels and more. I'm a proud owner of the 10 disc box set and watched all 10 discs more than once. Hi I'm Grady, and I'm a Matrix fan. ._. Still holds up today? Even some action scenes and some special effects are still better than 2013 movies!
I still have woah moments watching this film. The last time I watched it, I realized Morpheus says "You wont have to dodge bullets" a couple years ago that slipped my mind. But this time, at the end, I was like OHHH! Favorite Movie all time.
This movie still holds up in effects to today as with THE ORIGINAL Jurassic Park. For me this movie is my theater premiere experience version of Star Wars 1977. That Bullet Time scene on the Matrix, is my version of the experience people had on that opening scene of Star Wars, where the little ship fights the big ship and people were like OMG THIS IS GROOVY!! and that Bullet Time Matrix scene, people were like WHOA, AWESOME!! This movie is a classic.
They explain it in the movies. I forgot who, but after Neo spent a while in the real world, someone said "he's becoming more and more like a machine everyday" or something like that. He was lacking emotion (according to the movie) because he was still in shock from the dramatic transition from the Matrix to reality. Also, Smith became more and more human because he began learning from them as he interacted with Neo.
Not taking away from The Matrix, but you really have to watch 'Ghost in the Shell' to get an idea of where the Wachowski brothers took a lot of their inspiration, if not for plot then certainly for visuals (they've even admitted as much too; Producer Joel Silver has stated that the Wachowski brothers first described their intentions for The Matrix by showing him that anime and saying, "We wanna do that for real" - wikipedia).
I watched the first Matrix movie at home on VHS at age twelve in my big sister's room! Since then i was hooked, tho it felt abit too obscure for me at that age.

Anyway, great to see some real love for The Matrix. It pains me to talk to younger people (I'm 26 so I wasn't exactly older when it came out anyway haha) who have NO sense of respect for this film. It really is a masterpiece of the action/sci-fi genre.
The Matrix is a badass sci-fi film. It's a shame they didn't made any sequels.
That is what all matrix fans say ;)
john hood That's not you talking, you blue pill casual. That's what the entire Matrix wants you to believe - that there's a sequel. :)
I guess you could get its the spiritual successor: Inception or Equilibrium.
The way he says whoa two times to show the range : It's so funny!!
You work for CineFix? I subscribed to them! They are really clever. Glad you got to have the fun of being in their project.
I recently rewatched it and was thinking how “generic” and “cliche” it is but then remembered it’s a “cliche” because it was parodied sooooooo many times I forget this is the original
8 years later ... still holds up
"gaaaayyyyy" great community reference
The Matrix is my #5 movie of all time.
rest 4 are?
Braveheart, LOTR, Batman Trilogy, The Last Samurai
thanks! out of these i haven't seen the last samurai as of yet i will now i guess..
it's a fantastic movie, pursuit of happiness is really good as well that is my #6
i have seen it,it really bought tears to my eyes when i saw it first time, thanks anyway though..
Just watched it again for the 500th time. Will definitely be showing this to my kids, it will never get old. Timeless classic!
Don't show them Animatrix, which is 100x more graphic and darker. I got nightmares when I first watched it.
The sequels sucked, though.
when this came out in 1999 i still remember teenagers and my brother freaking the fuck out, people went really crazy about this movie and everybody talked about it, it was so revolutionary and breathtaking for the time
Matrix is probably the best sci-fi film of all time.
Anyone else thinks that he looks a bit like Keanu Reeves?
He looks like if Keanu Reeves and Jason Biggs had a baby
Look at him now lol
I just watched it for the first time today, Holy shit this movie is pretty good for a 1999 movie!
Have you watched groundhog day? Way better
These 2 films are so different that even if matrix is worse for people that have other taste groundhog wont be as interesting as matrix for example me both films have their place in history and both are fantastic.
The way Jeremy does that face at 3:16 was my face when I first saw the trailer to Ready Player One and saw the DeLorean from Back to the Future.
Just rewatched The Matrix. I’m sad to say, I underestimated this film when I first saw it... and I thought it was “Awesometacular” even back then!
This movie has so many layers, I appreciated the story even more. And the action scenes and Vfx definitely still holds up even after two decades!!!
Am i the only one that liked Revolution and Reloaded?
no,I like them okay
Yea I also really liked Reloaded but Revolutions...the Robot Sentinel fight scene was awesome but otherwise i wasn't really feeling it
I didn't like them
Naw I liked it man
Loved Reloaded, not a fan of Revolutions though.
I saw the Matrix today for the first time. FUCKING AWESOME! HOW CAN A MOVIE BE SO BADASS?
The funny part is that Hugo Weaving tends to get roles that require him to play a nonhuman.
Well there's V.
@@TheBlond49 also dehumanized with the mask, representing an idea rather than a person :)
one of my 20 favorite movies including The Thing (1982) Glory, Stand By Me T2, Aliens and Falling Down
Fun Fact:
The idea of having "plugs" on the back of their neck came from the anime Ghost in the Shell, as well as with some iconic scenes, such the green numbers and "digital" title screen in the beginning, Neo and Motoko (female protagonist of Ghost in the Shell) being "born" from a state of suspended animation, the market chase scene with Agent Smith chasing Neo, as well as many other similarities.
Just thought that was pretty interesting c:
Matrix: Awesometacular
Matrix Reloaded: You wont remember it in t-minus 5 minutes (Yep already forgot).
Matrix Revolutions: DOGSHIT
3:10
Is it just me or Jeremy looks like Keanu
The Matrix 20/10
The Matrix Reloaded 8.5/10
The Matrix Revolutions 6.5/10
The Matrix: (10/10
@@TheUndeadMiracl The Matrix: (100/10
so true because I remember M. Night Shalyma or however you spell his last name, he went to watch The matrix when it first came out, and when the movie was over M. Night walked out the theatre and said to himself, "What could they possible think of next" he was impressed just like us all.
Hey Jeremy, do you think you could review Reloaded and Revolutions? I wanna know what you think of them.
best movie ever made
no fucking way
Nope, no where near
3:05 to 3.16. Dude you are funny!!
I had to rewatch that a couple of times xD xD
I can't believe so many people are now hating on the film ever since that stupid Nostalgia Critic video.
So you disagree with Nostalgia Critic?
Zach Reed
Yeah, absolutely!
That Agent Smith impression was PERFECT!
NO ONE entertains me and is more crtically acurate than jeremy!!!
I spend HOURS watching ur reveiws laughing, agreeing, n just reminissing with watever ur talking abt... dont EVER stop man!!!!
Jeremy does look somewhat like Keanu.
Let's just pretend that Matrix Reloaded never happened!
Would you say the same for Revolutions?
nbvu1 Yes I would
I liked all Matrix movies though
wait has anybody thought of saints row 4..... saints row 4 and the matrix O_O
ikr
i haven't played it yet.what's the deal?
they are very similair with the story
haven't seen it in theaters but my friends gave me full recommendations about it when it was released on vhs, and here I was, 10 years old in the living room popping the vhs tape in my vcr in 9 pm having popcorns and enjoying the moment, good times
What a coincidence that he's reviewing this. I just bought the trilogy on blu ray mainly for the first one as I never saw the sequels. I haven't seen the first one in so long that I'm weirdly excited to watch it again.
still an awesome movie
Inception did this concept 1000x better than the Matrix. Never saw the film until I saw the Nostalgia Critic's review, wow I am shocked that it had all these cliches and it was hailed as revolutionary. Then again Frozen is considered revolutionary and it has more cliches than one could count.
A film can be cliche yet revolutionary if done right
It not so much cliche as it is taking all these inspirations and creating something new out of them.
Dude the matrix is pretentious itself...... Nostalgia Critic is 99% an act......
well everyone has his own opinion and i really like doug ,I don't always agree with him,he has some good points but mostly exaggerates so that maybe matter for him that doesn't for us
lets just say that the sequels could salvage themselves and he made a great point about them but the watchowskis are not as smart as they think they are
Dimitris Phoenix
You're right, they're *much smarter*.
Just saw it in a theater again. Truly one of the best movies ever.
anyone ever think what would happen if you took both pills..would you just trip the Fk out? :P
Don't take with alcohol as well 😛
OMG u were NEO!
does anyone else get annoyed by the constant three second clips of him talking just mashed together so it seems like he doesn't breathe?
that's actually what makes his show entertaining
Aboubacar Amine Or what every youtube commentator does.....every one of them. More so it is to speed up the video and cut the pauses and um's and oh's, so it does have actual purpose.
well yeah I know AND it works. So how is that annoying ? I mean it doesn't mean all jump-cut shows look the same..
It's just abused, so many people are starting to find it annoying. It is more and more seemingly becoming a gimmick of video editing than anything else.
Aboubacar Amine

1999->2013.
I think about the matrix literally everyday.
Matrix:11/10
Matrix reloaded: 5/10
Matrix revolutions: 4/20
Jo Ordinate Meh.... I'd give reloaded a 7
Jo Ordinate That's about right.
Only Inception topped The Matrix in awesomeness, 11 years later.
no
Grim Reaper
According to your opinion no. According to mine yes. It's a matter of taste. You have bad taste (just kidding)
Connor Read That movie is in a league of it's own
panatha tube
I'm Glad it's only your opinion, because I dont think in ten years Inception will be remembered as The Matrix...
GoldGollum Let's wait and see! It's just ten years after all.
huuuuuuuuuhh!!!!
GAY!
It was airing on the French TV tonight (3rd September 2020), the lobby scene like the whole movie is still awesometacular ‼️
I still have woah moments watching this film. The last time I watched it, I realized Morpheus says "You wont have to dodge bullets" a couple years ago that slipped my mind. But this time, at the end, I was like OHHH! Favorite Movie all time.
Pffff **Gayyyy
Jeremy…have you made videos of review of Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions, i cant find it. If No, why?
Not taking away from The Matrix, but you really have to watch 'Ghost in the Shell' to get an idea of where the Wachowski brothers took a lot of their inspiration, if not for plot then certainly for visuals (they've even admitted as much too; Producer Joel Silver has stated that the Wachowski brothers first described their intentions for The Matrix by showing him that anime and saying, "We wanna do that for real" - wikipedia).

My reaction to Ghostbusters Afterlife trailer. The Ecto 1 scene to be more specific.
I watched the first Matrix movie at home on VHS at age twelve in my big sister's room!
Since then i was hooked, tho it felt abit too obscure for me at that age.
I saw a really strong "Allegory of the Cave" influence in this movie. One of the best till this day
Jeremy! You gotta review the other two movies in the trilogy. Especially Revolutions. EPIC MECH BATTLES!!!!!
One of my favorite movies. The Matrix was awesome then and it's awesome now.
