You can check The Animatrix now. It has very fine segments. Then you can watch Reloaded and Revolutions which are... not as good as the first movie. Or watch the Matrix Dezionized fanedit. ;°)
I just watched this movie for the first time. I absolutly love it. Should I watch the 2 Sequels also, or will it somehow destroy my vision on this Movie?
Another worthy point to note is that The Matrix came out in 1999, just because the feared Millenium bug. So the world was already a little paranoid about technology and computers.
It just made the decade that for me was one of the best for action films in general. Nothing against the 80s but there's something about 90s action films that makes me remember that decade fondly and The Matrix was a nice way of capping it off.
Zouhair E.M. I love it too, but I wouldn't say it's a perfect movie, the characters are kind of bland and the acting is kind of emotionless and robotic.
I wouldn't say the characters are bland, I mean they're all pretty iconic. The acting was just fine too, I'd say, maybe you're thinking about Neo? I don't think you mean the Agents because they were created to be emotionless. Keanu Reeves isn't the world's best actor because he can't convey emotion as well as Leonardo Dicaprio maybe, but somehow his "kind of" acting and his look really paid off. I couldn't picture anyone else as Neo.
I really enjoyed the Matrix the first time I watched it. But whenever I rewatch it, I laugh my ass off: the battery, the whole "he's the One, ahhhhhhhhh" and martial arts mumbo jumbo, don't think you can, know you can; difference between knowing the path and walking the path.
And the 1975 Dr Who story 'The Deadly Assassin' with Tom Baker. Let's see....a massive computer system (it's even called The Matrix!!) that characters can 'connect' to in order to enter a VR world where they can manipulate the normal rules of reality. Oh wait....rip off.
Just watched it in 4k blu ray and it holds up so well. The only VFX that looks outdated is right at the end (spoiler: agent Smith) otherwise it's fantastic.
You can't make a list like that without star wars.... The impact star wars had on our society alone makes it one of the best series of all time. The same can't be said for lotr or Shawshank redemption. TBH neither can the matrix
These are my top 10 favourite films so far: 10. Inception 9. It’s a Wonderful Life 8. Brazil 7. Gravity 6. Saving Private Ryan 5. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy 4. The Elephant Man 3. Fantasia 2. Vertigo 1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
Keanu can act. He just can be really clumsy. My Own Private Idaho is a great movie that Keanu was actually good in. Nicolas Cage is also really good in stuff like Leaving Las Vegas, Raising Arizona, Mandy, etc.
The Matrix was my favorite movie for many years when I was younger. I would still put it in my top 5 after some other ones like Pulp Fiction and The Dark Knight.
Jdiskvah Miyamoto I don't like the term overrated. I don't think it makes sense. Because if lots of people love something and say its great - then its great. Its not like people are lying about how great it is. If many people say its a good movie, then its a good movie - it deserves the rating it has been given. But then if someone doesn't like it and is a minority, they call it overrated. But how is it? You not liking it doesn't mean its overrated. Its rated exactly what it should be with a majority of people loving it. The only way I can see the term making sense is if a reviewer overrated something beyond what they felt it actually deserved because they were bribed or something. Anyway, its a shame you don't like it. But for most people, it is as good as its claimed to be
Just because people agree on something doesn't make it true. It is still an opinion, so I really don;t care if you do not like the term "overrated". Just because Pewdiepie has 20-something million subscribers, doesn't mean he is a good TH-cam channel, because he really isn't.
I saw this at a midnight screening in 99 because i worked at a theater at the time before i joined the army. I worked a full shift that day in midtown Manhattan, heard nothing about this movie and wasn’t really wired to stay until 2am to take the train home 1 1/2 hour away from my flat in Brooklyn. I was wired in the first 5 minutes of the movie and had so much marinating in my head about it on the way home lol. My eyes were as wide as can be throughout the whole film and found myself flabbergasted at how intriguing it was. Definite A+.
There was a scene Neo says "Woah" . That was literally my reaction watching this movie for the first time as a kid. And now watching it again made me realize all the deeper meaning. What ever the subtle dialogues actually meant. A Masterpiece!
You probably don't care but I'll go ahead and throw in my thoughts on it: Reloaded wasn't that bad. It still had great fight sequences and took it up a notch on many levels. It wasn't nearly as groundbreaking but that's expected. Where it failed was that it became so involved in it's own convolution it became too distant as a story; tried going too far down the rabbit hole, if you will, to the point the philosophical inquiry became overbearing and not nearly as powerful as it should have been. Some of the ideas they had that expanded the world I liked, but only in the Matrix world. Zion however, was just a completely uninteresting place with even less interesting characters. Particularly, it lost most of what makes the original so great of a watch; the mysterious, almost claustrophobic and isolated atmosphere(even while inside the Matrix), and suspense brought on particularly by the Agents. When you have the One kicking everyone's ass like it's nothing, you kind of lose that. (As for Revolutions, it took all these bad points and put them to the forefront.) The original ended perfectly; you didn't need to see any more beyond that. Doing the sequels took away that sense of intrigue. imo of course.
I don't know why all the hate for Reloaded, I loved it just as much as the first one, it has some of the best action scenes and I was glad to go "further down the rabbit hole" with these characters, I was engaged in the story so that's why I guess I liked it more than most people.
Gianluca Giordimaina I think it's too long. the idea of Neo being the 7th "one" and making his choices and so on where a neat idea. But nothing felt new about it. It just did not grab me the way the first one did. But to each his own.
Do not try and bend the spoon; that’s impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth. What truth? There is no spoon. There is no spoon? Then you will see it is not the spoon that bends - it is only yourself.
Thanks for mentioning Don Davis' score. It's so iconic. Like, it's immediately recognizable as music from _The Matrix_ and no place else. *Edit:* Oh, yeah, almost forgot: This movie has one of the best _licensed_ soundtracks for any movie ever. The guy who curated it is a genius. So many elements for this movie just perfectly came together.
In absolutely no particular order, here are the favourites that I can remember: The Prestige, The Next Three Days, Children of Men, Truman Show, Paprika, The Matrix, Fight Club, Memento, REC, Batman Begins & The Dark Knight, Pulp Fiction, Groundhog Day, Little Miss Sunshine, What We Do in the Shadows, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Rules of Attraction, Star Wars trilogy, Misery, Jaws, Oldboy, Blade Runner, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Shining, The Thing (82), Wall-E, Toy Story trilogy, Michael Collins, Whiplash, Birdman, Zootopia, Let the Right One In, The Life Aquatic, The Fugitive, The Fifth Element, Poltergeist, Babe, This is England, Edge of Tomorrow, Seven, Sideways, Shawshank Redemption, Equilibrium, Leon, Back to the Future, American Beauty, Primer, The Fly, Schindler's List, As Good As It Gets, Coraline, Alien & Aliens, Kill Bill 1 & 2, The Road, Terminator 2, The Others, TLOTR: 2 Towers, Life is Beautiful, Unbreakable, Moon, Ghost in the Shell, The Bourne Ultimatum, Downfall, Bone Tomahawk, Martyrs, Invasion of the Bodysnatchers (78), Looper, The Usual Suspects, Anchorman, Rear Window, Inside Out, Amelie, Election, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Saving Private Ryan, The Departed, In the Name of the Father, 12 monkeys, Serenity, Star Trek First Contact, American Psycho, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Spotlight, Princess Mononoke, Being John Malkovich, The Iron Giant, Shaun of the Dead, Casino Royale, Triangle.
I think I am the only one who loves everything about The Matrix and it´s expanded universe (Sequels, The Animatrix, videogames) those are really underrated, the sequels are hated for dumb reasons.
I'm such a huge fan of the Matrix trilogy and the Animatrix. I ate it all up. I loved the story of the films. The first film was the best for sure but the sequels continued such a fantastic story (with an ending that was far more sophisticated than people were expecting). I want to watch them all now.
LuxGamer24 I watched through his recent video of him going through his whole Blu-Ray collection and he said that he gets one or two requests a week to do an Analysed Review of Donnie Darko and that he'd do it in not to long (hopefully)
Finally : THE MATRIX!!! You know what? You're absolutely right about the experience. When I watch The Matrix for the first time, I never seen the trailer, I never knew the buzz, I knew nothing about it, and when I watch it really blew my mind in a million direction, I event watch it 2 times in a roll and spend the next day sleeping. And the thing is, I watched it on VCD back then, how amazing is that? It's once in a lifetime experience. I event change my life course because of this movie, that's why I am currently a video maker in youtube, and I am a Law school graduate, how about that! LoL
My top 20 (no order here because I can't rank these movies) -Lord of the rings trilogy -the dark knight -the matrix -fight club -goodfellas -shawshank redemption -saving private ryan -Good will hunting -the godfather -silence of the lambs -the green mile -Hugo -stand by me -godfather 2 -pulp fiction -the empire stikes back -revenge of the sith -return of the jedi -American psycho -the dark knight rises
Nice review, Chris. Now you need to do a Hilariocity review of The Matrix: Revolutions. That'll make it the first franchise to appear in both segments.
I prefer Revolutions over Reloaded, although non of them are essentially Matrix films, but more like weird spin-offs or chaotic pretentiousness. But still Revolutions worked better as a film imo. You can say that overall, while Reloaded was a tiring over-bloated mess, action-wise, Revolution was the same story-wise (yes, it has a lot of action in the end), but to me the last part is defiantly the most enjoyable of the two - just don't view ANY of the sequels as a true Matrix movie (because they don't hold anything to the original and its idea). And that is what I did with my recent second-watch of the sequels of the franchise and it made them a lot better.
It's my favorite movie, I watch it every year just to re experience that feeling when Morpheus is first explaining what the Matrix is and the fall of mankind, and when you see the thousands of humans plugged in as living energy sources. Fantastic film throughout with balls to the walls action scenes.
I first saw the Matrix when it came out in 99 .. I hadn’t seen any reviews and was fully spoiler free and remember being completely gobsmacked .. one of my all time favs.
1) empire strikes back/a new hope 2) LOTR trilogy 3) raiders of the last ark 4) the shawshank redemption 5) lawrence of arabia 6) goodfellas 7) the usual suspects 8) saving private ryan 9) judgement day 10) collateral
1. Amadeus 2. Pan's Labyrinth 3. Whiplash 4. Song of the Sea 5. Edward Scissorhands 6. Princess Mononoke 7. Duck Soup 8. Edward Scissorhands 9. Casablanca 10. The Wind Rises
Not only is The Matrix Trilogy, my favorite trilogy, but the first Matrix is also my favorite Sci Fi film of all time. Its a movie that changed so many things in the film industry. Its definitely one of a kind and there will never be anything like it.
I think trailers should have the director promote it to you. not much footage, just the director and some of the sets. Like what Hitchcock did in the trailer for Psycho.
10)pulp fiction 9)the godfather 8)the godfather part 2 7)the dark knight 6)memento 5)the departed 4)the empire strikes back 3)aliens 2)inception 1)lotr return of the king
You don't descibe fight scenes in screenplays, because the directors are gonna make it the way they see fit anyway, and it slows the flow of the screenplay down. So unless something specific happens during the fight that's important for the story you just write, they fight.
Matt Greer You are wrong. Well you are right about choreographers, except if the director doesn't like it he'll have to change the choreography. Everything else you are wrong about. It's one of the million traps you can fall into when writing.
basquat76 There's a distinct difference here, though. And that's that movies with writer/director's, like The Matrix, can pretty much do as they see fit with their scripts (unless there's studio involvement, of course), and if they have a clear vision for their action and/or scenes without dialogue they do often write them out in detail. Tarantino, for example, his scripts look nothing like the script you would try and sell to be made by someone else -- which is what I assume you were referring to when you were talking about scripts generally. His come off more like novels. I think Chris was just expressing his appreciation for the vision being laid out so early on, and seeing that same vision come to life. Whether he knew it was a thing most screenwriters can't do is another conversation. But in the context of this particular review, where writer/directors were involved, it was a fair point to bring up.
Josh Lewis Reviews Yes. A writer/director can write as he see fits, cause he's writing it for himself. Although he still needs to sell it to investors or studios. Tarantino and the Wachowski's probably doesn't anymore but they did back in the day.
basquat76 They need to sell the idea as one that can make money, and themselves as filmmakers with the vision to pull it off. The script being a bit heavy with description won't be the thing investors worry about. If anything, that clear distinctive vision expressed in the script might just be the reason they believed in the project.
Josh Lewis Reviews Well in the case of Matrix it was Joel Silver, and it wasn't the Wachowski's first film. They'd already proven themselves as film-makers. What's interesting about Matrix is they wanted to make something that required brand new technology. So describing the scene had to be very specific and precise. So when Stuckmann says how well the fight scenes were described in the screenplay in contrary to other screenplays, there's a reason for it. And there's a reason why you don't write every punch in a fight.
I know this is an older review, Chris. But I must say, your reviews are the most informative, insightful, intelligent, and just plain entertaining that I've ever seen. You are the man, my friend! Keep up the great work, man. Love ya.
The coolest thing about these film is it immolates that childhood like imagination with it's fight scenes. Like I remember as kid before this movie was released and well after drawing stick figures doing flying kicks, punching through concrete, or mid air combat all that stuff and even play fighting with friends along with that same imagination, these movies just completely embody that with their action.
The First Matrix Movie is just amazing. Too bad they crapped all over it in the other movies, which are still technically good but made us realize that the Story writers actually didn't know what the fuck they where doing.
they did know what they were doing but i genuinely think it was originally supposed to be one movie then the studio execs came in , and they tried to stretch it out when the story was done.
Indeed, my only regret is, that I watched the Matrix back in 1999 in Germany and not the original version... One of my favorites too and deserves an A++!
1. Malcolm X 2. Shawshank Redemption 3. The Matrix 4. Jurassic Park 5. Indiana Jones Series 6. Coming to America 7. Terminator 1 and 2 8. The Six Sense 9. Goodfellas 10. Boyz n tha Hood 11. Inception 12. Finding Forrester 13. Forrest Gump 14. The Avengers 15. The Dark Knight 16. Back to the Future Series 17. Se7en 18. Contact 19. Blade 20. Meet the Millers 21. The Hangover 22. Avatar 23. Enter the Dragon (Bruce Lee) 24. Total Recall 25. Predator
The Matrix is a sci-fi masterpiece, and one of the best films ever made!! The acting is terrific, solid music score, the action sequences were awesome, the VFX looked great, and it had an interesting story that’s very well developed!! It’s a shame that the sequels didn’t live up to the hype. Overall, I’d give The Matrix an A+.
You know a film is iconic and legendary when so many other films after it try to emulate the thing. But what they always fall short with, is the character development.
If I did have to choose a favorite movie of all time, it probably would be The Matrix. The movie just blew my mind when I first saw it, and complementing the mind-bending twist was a host of great action sequences and suspense.
Here's my favorite movies of all-time: 1. The Dark Knight (Best movie of all-time) 2. Blade Runner 3. Fight Club 4. Pulp Fiction 5. Distirct 9 6. Lost in Translation 7. Taxi Driver 8. There Will Be Blood 9. Apocalypse Now 10. Almost Famous 11. Looper 12. Good Will Hunting 13. Pan's Labyrinth 14. The Incredibles 15. United 93 16. The Matrix 17. Superbad 18. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 19. Munich 20. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy 21. Inception 22. The Empire Strikes Back 23. Metropolis (1927) 24. The Thin Red Line 25. Heat .....
The Matrix is by far my favorite Sci-Fi movie. I saw it as a kid and I was blown away by not only its visual style and kick ass directing, but the lore and the philosophy behind it. It changed the way I was watching movies forever. Many consider it way too overrated, with too many plotholes. Some even laugh at the script and the way the movie tried to be this metaphysical groundbreaking experience while it felt like a Teen attending philosophy 101 in high school wrote the screenplay. Yeah I've read that all over the Internet, especially on Vice. But this movie is the one that changed everything for me and really turned me into a huge film enthusiast.
If the Matrix sounds like adolescent screenplay in philosophy that deserves an A+++ Because most philosophy is often long winded arguments about nothing written by old men. But what really sucks about the Matrix is the fanbase and the metaphorical abuse of the blue pill and red pill
Hugo Weaving became THE actor on whom all agents were modelled in every movie that followed. He made Keanu look better for sure. The "Mr. Anderson" is just unforgettable
Did you not like it? I really like matrix reload but a lot of people say it’s not as amazing as the first movie. The first matrix tho is a complete masterpiece of a movie! Fantastic film!
Had the pleasure of seeing The Matrix twice in theater this past week for its 20 year anniversary. I never got to see it on the big screen when it came out and it’s now my favorite movie of all time so it was very special. I’m curious about what they’re going to do with Matrix 4....I always hoped they’d make The Second Renaissance into a film.
1. Terminator 2: Judgement Day 2. Casino Royale 3. Die Hard 4. Kill Bill 5. Captain America: The Winter Soldier 6. Aliens 7. The Matrix 8. The Road Warrior 9. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol 10. Predator My favourite action movies
Kyle Gaunt Reviews Yep. Sorry. It's one of those movies where I'm aware that everyone loves it, but for some reason it just doesnt click for me. The story and characters are good, but to me the action falls flat. I know I'm alone on that. Schwarzenegger clearly doesn't know how to fight so every hand-to-hand combat scene comes off as sloppy. The chase scenes can be good, but often times they come off as too slow, especially compared to the likes of Fury Road and Speed
I don't really have a favorite movie, but there are some that I love beyond anything. Those Top 10 are: 1. The Empire Strikes Back 2. LOTR The Fellowship of The Ring 3. Forrest Gump 4. The Dark Knight 5. Wall E 6. Star Wars 1977 7. Toy Story Trilogy 8. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 9. Terminator 2 10. Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Matrix is actually one of the reasons I will no longer watch movies with my dad, because if he figures out what the twist is before he thinks you've figure it out, he will make sure to tell you about it. It was worse in this case because he saw the movie before I did, and while we were watching it at one point he literally said to me, "Yeah, but this isn't the real world either!" Yeah, great, Dad. Now I don't need to watch the rest of the movie. Thanks.
They have DNA tests you can take now which will reveal your parentage. I bring this up because there's no way a father would actually do that to his real son!
The Matrix is also one of my favorite movies of all time (definitely on my top 5 list). You should do a film analysis on the Matrix (not the sequels, just the first film). I think there's a lot to be said in terms of its themes, symbolism, etc. Definitely think about it! Keep on rocking Chris!
I would absolutely love to hear your review of the movie "Layer Cake" starring Daniel Craig. It is said that he got the role as Bond mostly thanks to his performance in Layer Cake, despite the character being a polar opposite. Thumbs up if you'd like to see a Layer Cake review from Mr. Stuckmann. I will be leaving this comment on several videos. That's how much I want this.
F*** yeah! The Matrix was definitely more than a movie for me. Like you said it was an 'experience'. When I first saw it in 99' I was like "Wait...what?I had to watch it again on dvd and analyze the story, and once I did my reaction was "Ok that pretty much kicked ass all over the place" It's a very rare and special thing when a sci fi/fantasy movie doesn't suck, sci fi being my favorite genre and all I wanted to get best picture. However, I know that I could not expect that. I believe American Beauty got the Oscar that year?
Wow, A+. I remember seeing it when it was released and thinking that the acting and dialogue were pretty wooden and silly. And ironically, the one thing that Chris seemed to love about the movie (the Matrix being a technological creation) was what I remember being disappointed about the most. I went into the movie expecting it to be a much more philosophical experience, and the reality of it being machines controlling people seemed underwhelming and disappointing to me.
@@almomedvedec896 LMAO HELL NO! It’s NOT “it is” AT ALL! The movie is NOT “tHe WoRsT fiLm” ever AT ALL as that’s just objectively not true in the slightest. Now THAT’S one of the most ignorant comments I’ve ever seen in my life about this film. It’s a FANTASTIC movie and an amazing stamp on film culture.
@@nathanslay6342 whether or not you like the film is your opinion but it’s FAR from being “oVErRatEd” in ANYWAY as it EARNED its reception as a fantastic sci-fi action movie on film history. It’s not pitch perfect but the positives of the movie from story, visuals, themes, characters, and acting are all fantastically well done and brilliantly made which WAY MORE than makes up for it all the way through for this brilliant film.
I have NO idea on what you're even saying in your complaints as it just seems like ridiculous complaints to make. The movie IS that on all you're saying on what you wanted out of it as it's fantastically well made and done and FAR from being any kind of "silly" "disappointing" or even comes CLOSE to "underwhelming" in ANY way for ANY of the aspects of this brilliant done film in all of extremely positive aspects. That's just nonsense to say about this movie at all. The acting and the dialogue is FAR from being “pretty wooden” AT ALL nor is it “silly” in anyway. Yes it can be not subtle but it’s VERY well written overall and done executed for what this movie is going for in it's story and complex themes which it truly succeeded in. The acting is NOT “pretty wooden” AT ALL as having the characters be stoic for a lot of the scenes in the movie is the whole point of the movie having nuanced performances. And the movie IS a philosophical experience with existential themes throughout the movie so I have no idea why you're saying it’s not because it IS and it’s themes of technology and the machines controlling people are brilliantly done throughout the movie. I have NO idea where your coming from saying ANY of that stuff was anywhere close to being “underwhelming” or even CLOSE to “disappointing” to you because it’s NOT! It’s all fantastically done. Not seeing how you can say any of the stuff was in ANY way “disappointed the most” AT ALL because all the themes of technology and how it’s transcends everything was brilliantly done for its time and still holds up fantastically well today.
Nice to see one more of these reviews, and also I'd like to say that you handle promotions in a really classy way that actually make me feel like you pick the stuff you support and tell us about them, instead of just doing any old promotion to support the channel. Thumbs up for that.
I grew up with this movie. Saw it when it first came out (I was 9), and I’ve seen it more than almost any other movie. I have the entire movie memorized like the back of my hand. I actually really like the 2nd and 3rd movies, and I saw them in theaters when they both came out the same year, although I’ll be the first to admit they’re nowhere near up to par with the first one. I’ve got Smith’s “why do you persist” speech from the third movie memorized by heart. I even grew up playing Enter the Matrix and mastered the hacking minigame. I absolutely adore The Matrix.
Awesome review Chris. I love The Matrix so original and Awesome. That made many copycats but none could do it like this film. I gave it my Bad Ass Seal Of Approval. I agree with Josh you should do a Hilariocity review of the other 2 crappy movies.
i remember watching this in theater.. it was so ahead of its time.. even now, got the same feeling even watching it in bluray.. first 10minutes of the movie insta-blew your mind.
I like that you talk about the script and how well-written it is. I too have read it and really appreciated the way scenes were described, as opposed to most screenplays. One could read it like a novel.
I know im way too late but heres my top 10 10. Captain America:The Winter Soldier 9. The Matrix 8. LoTR:The Two Towers 7. Pulp Fiction 6. Interstellar 5. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug 4. Avengers: Infinity War 3. The Dark Knight 2. Inglorius Basterds 1. LoTR: The Return of the King
I don't get it why people hate the sequels so much. I really liked them, except for some forced action scenes...like that god awful boring action segment on the highway
I still love everything about this film. I was so shocked in a good way when I first watched this at school when I was in sixth grade. Yeah. My teacher actually made me watch this. EDUCATION!!
Nix Caffery I think I’m like the only person who didn’t like Equilibrium. I love Christian Bale, Sean Bean, and Callum Keith Rennie. I didn’t care for the movie when I saw it. It felt too much like a Fahrenheit 451 fanfic to me. Maybe I need to see it again.
I really enjoy the movie but I disagree on the special effects. Even if I concede that point, the fact that phone booths are a main plot point makes it seem dated.
I just saw it yesterday, the only regret i have is not watching this a long time ago
Me too, I was like: Men, how did i miss this?
You can check The Animatrix now. It has very fine segments. Then you can watch Reloaded and Revolutions which are... not as good as the first movie. Or watch the Matrix Dezionized fanedit. ;°)
Sean Eredia How did you not watch The Matrix until 2016?
+EonHSD They might just be very young.
Manly O'Beeferton then how did his parents never showed matrix to him :3

Lucky you, when I was 8 I didn't know what was happening and why.
10/10 movie for me. Revolutionary, legendary, game-changing. One of the best ever.
nigeldaman For me too. What a kickass movie with enough cool action to please an adolescent, and enough intelligent plot for the adults.
I just watched this movie for the first time. I absolutly love it. Should I watch the 2 Sequels also, or will it somehow destroy my vision on this Movie?
Steve23 SM watch the sequels
Steve23 SM sequels are know where near as good in my opinion
The sequels aren't as good as standalone movies, but they definitely progress the story
Another worthy point to note is that The Matrix came out in 1999, just because the feared Millenium bug. So the world was already a little paranoid about technology and computers.
@Joga Grande True. I guess what I meant to say is that we tend to forget about the Millenium Bug. In 1999 it was a real concern.
@Joga Grande k boomer
It just made the decade that for me was one of the best for action films in general. Nothing against the 80s but there's something about 90s action films that makes me remember that decade fondly and The Matrix was a nice way of capping it off.
The Matrix is a perfect movie. Every single shot of the movie looks like it's been thought about. I've seen it probably like 15 times.
Neo and Trinity literally act like robots when they're in the Matrix.
i've seen it maybe 100 times. in the last year.
Keanu's "The day my face stood still" was just perfect for this film. It just works in this one.
'The day my face stood still', hahaha. This just slayed me :D Brilliant :D
LOL
And in John wick
Whenever people who were born in the 80's and 90's say they don't know what Matrix is, it genuinely surprises me.
M ason , Right!
Who says that? No one. The first one was a cultural juggernaut.
That would suprise me the matrix of leadership was in 1986 Transformers movie as well as 1982 tron
Ghost in the shell deserves credit too, since it inspired the creators into making the matrix.
Professor Pants amen
its shootout scenes were the best done for an animated film
And the 1975 Dr Who story 'The Deadly Assassin' with Tom Baker. Let's see....a massive computer system (it's even called The Matrix!!) that characters can 'connect' to in order to enter a VR world where they can manipulate the normal rules of reality. Oh wait....rip off.
Professor Pants well in that case, Blade Runner deserves credit for creating the look of the Cyberpunk aesthetic
Maester Pee-more ghost suck ass
Such a great film. The tension and claustrophobia of the scene where Neo has to evade the agents through his office cubicles is just masterful.
"The Matrix" is one of those films that is clearly of its time, yet still remains unbelievably cool today.
Just watched it in 4k blu ray and it holds up so well. The only VFX that looks outdated is right at the end (spoiler: agent Smith) otherwise it's fantastic.
@@RH-nk7eothe thing is, even that looks better than some of the Marvel CGI nowadays😂
Hahaha! I love that amateur recreation of Neo vs Agent Smith! The "bullet time" is actually really well done, all things considered. Hats off, kids!

You said Keanu is the best bad actor. I disagree. That award goes to Nick Cage.
I don't believe Keanu is a bad actor his performance in John Wick he was amazing
@@teddygallagher372 His acting is brilliant in Constantine !
I would still put it in my top 5 after some other ones like Pulp Fiction and The Dark Knight.
i feel like an idiot.. i haven't seen matrix.
Mother of god... Get to a television as fast as you can!
watch it! well worth it
The Matrix is overrated garbage for people with short attention spans; I would recommend passing it.
Am I the only person in the world who thinks that Reloaded was also pretty amazing?
(As for Revolutions, it took all these bad points and put them to the forefront.)
The original ended perfectly; you didn't need to see any more beyond that.
No. You are not.
Gianluca Giordimaina
I think it's too long. the idea of Neo being the 7th "one" and making his choices and so on where a neat idea. But nothing felt new about it. It just did not grab me the way the first one did. But to each his own.
Matrix Reloaded is one of my favorite sequels. Didn't like Revolutions.
ARGUABLY THE COOLEST MOVIE EVER.
Fight Club, Django Unchained.
The Brown Knight I prefer inglorious over Django
Inception and 1408
Matrix is one of the greats for sure. Favorite line in the movie is the "Spoon is not real".
Cheetos Hmm actually the line was there is no spoon. you can't bend it that's impossible. once realize this it's you that bends.......
mY favorite line is, "Squiddy?"
Do not try and bend the spoon; that’s impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth.
What truth?
There is no spoon.
There is no spoon?
Then you will see it is not the spoon that bends - it is only yourself.

The first matrix easily the best overall
The second was had the best action
The third was....one of the most disappointing things I've ever seen.
I dunno, the action in the first is far better to me because the stakes felt real and all practical fights rather than too much cgi and such.
You said it was best action in 2nd? I mean some of they are good but super long... the whole chase was 10 mins longer than it should had.
@@NathanBaldassero that's true it's been a long time since I've seen them all. I don't know how badly the cgi will have aged the 2nd movie.
@@hardhirbajwa542 but it was one awesome scene. Fury Road is one of my faves and the entire movie is one big chase.
What about the 4th? Resurrections?
I think I am the only one who loves everything about The Matrix and it´s expanded universe (Sequels, The Animatrix, videogames) those are really underrated, the sequels are hated for dumb reasons.
You are not alone. :)
Me too :)
Could not agree more!
I like all the Matrix films. I like the first one best though.
I'm such a huge fan of the Matrix trilogy and the Animatrix. I ate it all up. I loved the story of the films. The first film was the best for sure but the sequels continued such a fantastic story (with an ending that was far more sophisticated than people were expecting). I want to watch them all now.
I would love it if you reviewed my favorite movie of all time: Donnie Darko

Nice review, Chris. Now you need to do a Hilariocity review of The Matrix: Revolutions. That'll make it the first franchise to appear in both segments.
Nice idea Josh. I hope Chris looks into that :)
and Reloaded aswell.
I don't think they are really bad enough sequels to be on the hilariocity reviews
They're not as good as the first one, but definitely does not belong in a hilarioucity review, I wish Chris with me on this...
It's my favorite movie, I watch it every year just to re experience that feeling when Morpheus is first explaining what the Matrix is and the fall of mankind, and when you see the thousands of humans plugged in as living energy sources. I remember surround sound making the scene...the Matrix was the go to movie for testing...it was awesome!
This reminds me of how I felt with "From Dusk till Dawn", would love to see a review of that movie.
Salma Hayek has one of my faviorte movie scenes ever!!!!!!!
The Matrix fight short film/clip that you shot with your friends was awesome. Pure gold.
Love ya.
Apocalypse now and the matrix are my top 2 favorites
The coolest thing about these film is it immolates that childhood like imagination with it's fight scenes. Like I remember as kid before this movie was released and well after drawing stick figures doing flying kicks, punching through concrete, or mid air combat all that stuff and even play fighting with friends along with that same imagination, these movies just completely embody that with their action.
The First Matrix Movie is just amazing. Too bad they crapped all over it in the other movies, which are still technically good but made us realize that the Story writers actually didn't know what the fuck they where doing.
or most probably you didn't understand the story.
armensog87 Sure Buddy.
Johannes Dolch Totally agree. The first Matrix was a standalone brilliant film. The sequels were convoluted, flat and uninspired.
Yes they did. Try again.
they did know what they were doing but i genuinely think it was originally supposed to be one movie then the studio execs came in , and they tried to stretch it out when the story was done.

Awesome list my friend.
If the Matrix sounds like adolescent screenplay in philosophy that deserves an A+++
Because most philosophy is often long winded arguments about nothing written by old men.
But what really sucks about the Matrix is the fanbase and the metaphorical abuse of the blue pill and red pill
one of the greatest movies ever made. so much truth is hidden in it
Hugo Weaving became THE actor on whom all agents were modelled in every movie that followed. He made Keanu look better for sure. The "Mr. Anderson" is just unforgettable
I still remember the incredible amount of hype the second movie had and after coming out of the theater I was like wtf was that.

Winter Soldier is a legit classic action movie. It stands apart from the MCU as a stand-alone genre film.

The Matrix is actually one of the reasons I will no longer watch movies with my dad, because if he figures out what the twist is before he thinks you've figure it out, he will make sure to tell you about it. It was worse in this case because he saw the movie before I did, and while we were watching it at one point he literally said to me, "Yeah, but this isn't the real world either!"
Yeah, great, Dad. Now I don't need to watch the rest of the movie. Thanks.
not really a spoiler, you find out that that world isn't real within half an hour
JNCrane Yeah, but he told me about it within the first ten minutes, thus removing any enjoyment of what would have been a cool plot twist.
***** Sounds a lot like my dad, actually.
They have DNA tests you can take now which will reveal your parentage. I bring this up because there's no way a father would actually do that to his real son!
This was one of the first films I saw by myself in the theater. I was 13. It was utterly epic, a lifechanging experience at that age.

Great movie for sure. I couldn't really absorb it all in the theater but got way into it when the VHS came out. Yep- VHS!
I should rewatch Matrix.
“It’s time to resurrect it.” 😱
I would absolutely love to hear your review of the movie "Layer Cake" starring Daniel Craig. It is said that he got the role as Bond mostly thanks to his performance in Layer Cake, despite the character being a polar opposite. Thumbs up if you'd like to see a Layer Cake review from Mr. Stuckmann. I will be leaving this comment on several videos. That's how much I want this.
Chris stuckmann predicted the fourth matrix movie title like 3 times on here
He did lol
watched it in theater... 20 years ago... no movie can beat that experience... amazing
Are all A+ movies your favorite movies? Or are your "favorite movies" a whole other level?
It is not gonna lie the worst film I've ever seen
Hey I understand. It’s overrated and definitely not perfect.
I think Dark City inspired the thinking on the Matrix
Omg.. I have been watching your reviews for years and I don't at all recall how different your intro was.
You have come a long way, keep it up my man.
Could you review the sequels?
I'm from the future and he does
I grew up with this movie.
How, HOW! have you not seen The Matrix? Also how did I get back here in 2020
Bullet timing was pretty cool in the Max Payne video games just like The Matrix.
Awesome review Chris. I love The Matrix so original and Awesome. That made many copycats but none could do it like this film. I gave it my Bad Ass Seal Of Approval. I agree with Josh you should do a Hilariocity review of the other 2 crappy movies.
i remember watching this in theater.. it was so ahead of its time.. even now, got the same feeling even watching it in bluray.. first 10minutes of the movie insta-blew your mind.
juat to add.. dont forget the animatrix.. that anime shorts story with the "kid" and trinity.. awesome.
...woah. spot on.👌
I'm waiting for your Resurrections review.
That soundtrack though...
I like that you talk about the script and how well-written it is. I too have read it and really appreciated the way scenes were described, as opposed to most screenplays. One could read it like a novel.
Meh - I honestly thought this movie was a 7 out of 10 at best...
I know im way too late but heres my top 10
10. Captain America:The Winter Soldier
9. The Matrix
8. LoTR:The Two Towers
7. Pulp Fiction
6. Interstellar
5. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
4. Avengers: Infinity War
3. The Dark Knight
2. Inglorius Basterds
EDUCATION!!
Do one for Equilibrium!
20 years later the actions scenes and visual effects still holds up
I really enjoy the movie but I disagree on the special effects. Even if I concede that point, the fact that phone booths are a main plot point makes it seem dated.
