    I think the reason why Neo had a hard time fighting one Agent Smith is because that version was the Oracle prior to being infected. With The Oracle being one of the most powerful entities in these movies, it would make sense that some of her power was absorbed into Smith, giving him an advantage over Neo by being much stronger. It also makes sense considering he can suddenly predict the future, much like what the Oracle could do.

    • @Blade-hf9po
      @Blade-hf9po ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It wasn't just that, every time Smith made a copy he got just a tiny bit stronger. Multiply that by the millions of copies he made of himself and he was def stronger than Neo by that point. The oracle even mentions it in her boring talk with Neo.

    You know, this whole trilogy of reviews makes fun of the Agent Smith character, but Hugo Weaving's performance was so memorable (and encapsulates the tone and identity of the movies so perfectly) that as monotone and stupid as he can be, Agent Smith left a huge impact on pop culture.

    • @romandobrov8460
      @romandobrov8460 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Actually, he is a very interesting character too. He experience emotions despite the fact he is a program and this is shown in the very first movie. He sincerely hates human being and this is a very good trait to have for an agent program. This is why he continues the search in the first movie before the subway scene takes place while other agents do not.

    I think I know why Neo was having issue fighting that last Smith, while he was kicking the shit out of an army of them. When Smith "hacks" someone he basically just erases their identity and copy/paste his on to their shell. And while the copy's share his personality and knowledge the shell is still the shell. So when smith hacks a bystander the new smith is only a bit stronger then that shell due to smiths knowledge of hand to hand. It's basically an army of inferior copies. But when he hacked the oracle he hacked a very powerful program. So that copy was the superior copy. He even gains the oracle "visions" and why he can fly. That copy is now on the same level as Neo because he infected a MAJOR program

      @DoctorDodge 8 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      KashelGladio Thanks for the tip. I generally go for director's cuts if I can, anyway. I know that there are many cases where a perfectly great, refreshing and original story was ruined by studios trying to make something more acceptable for a larger audience and failing badly. It sounds like Dark City was just one more example of that.

      @@TheSchemer1 to be fair... i didn't realize that's why Smith freaked like that until you guys pointed it out. There may be a logical reason for most of the stuff (plot-wise) in the series, but seriously, The Matrix movies really needed to make it more obvious as to what the plot was instead of prioritizing the symbolism and the gun fights. Like maybe they could've had Smith see the future happen right then, or have him flashing forward to a freed Zion or maybe even he starts talking in The Oracle's voice, or just something to clue us into the fact that the Oracle was still there. Honestly, Critic's got a good reason to mock these movies when most of the plot twists and plot itself is a confusing jumble of words, fighting, and explosions explained/shown to an overstimulated audience in like 6 seconds.

    Why can't Neo just punch Agent Smith as easily the second time? Because Smith has the Oracle's power. When Smith absorbs someone, two things happen. 1) He absorbs their power 2) He absorbs their PURPOSE.
    *** THIS IS HOW NEO DEFEATS SMITH! ***Between the real world, and the 6 Matrices, Neo is the 7th incarnation of Jesus Christ. As such, his purpose is to 'Die To Save Mankind'. When Smith absorbs him, it becomes the purpose of ALL the Smiths to Die to Save Mankind. And since Smith is the principle threat to mankind.. BOOM, all they can do is self-destruct.
    The entire ending fight is a trick by Neo. He knows if he just surrenders to Smith, Smith will sense a trap, and just kill him, and win. He must get Smith to ABSORB him. So he plays the Stupid Hero and tries punching Smith, even though it's obvious that the best his DragonballZ power can do is fighting a single Smith to a standstill, and there's literally a world, if not WORLDS, of Smiths waiting to go next.
    At first, Smith is amused. Then Smith is annoyed. Then Smith is ENRAGED! THIS idiot is his arch nemesis? It's making HIM look bad!! He throws cold logic to the winds and goes for the defiling absorption..
    Smith gets a warning just before it happens.. a vision from the Oracle that he doesn't understand.. that he's playing right into one of her plans. But then Neo starts moving again, and Smith lashes out.. absorbing him. Neo-Smith smiles back at him in satisfaction.. and suddenly Agent Smith loses all his composure, and whines "Oh NO.. it's NOT FAIR!!" Realization. Checkmate. Chain of exploding Smiths.
    Everyone comes back at the end, except for Neo, whose glorious sacrifice has finished his own purpose, and now he no longer exists.

      +BlackfootFerret There's a bit of a flaw with your conclusion. The entire reason Smith was a threat was because he no longer followed programming, he just did what he wanted. The Matrix was thrown into chaos because no one was fulfilling their purposes.
      It seems more to me that Smith died because he was connected directly to the Matrix's core through Neo. With direct access to Smith, the center of the Matrix could shut him down once and for all.
      Of course, symbolically, it's supposed to represent how Jesus became sin, died and took all the sin with him.

    • @BlackfootFerret
      @BlackfootFerret 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Shady Doorags Do you remember the conversation Neo and Smith have before the massive fight in Movie 2? "We're not here because we're free.. we're here because we're NOT free." Smith is compelled to fight Neo, part of the Oracle's plan. He must still abide by the Purposes he's absorbed. Everything in the Matrix has a purpose, when it losses it, it ceases to exist

    He has a giant army at his disposal. So why not use it? Even if only the main Smith is strong enough to survive one on one he can still use the army to distract Tom or wear him down.

      1) The film series is so unsubtle and so on-the-nose with their ideas, that if they were doing this on purpose, it would totally be mentioned.
      2) Even if it is on purpose, it serves no "purpose" in the actual plot, character progression or thematic construct of the story
      3) Whatever purpose there might have been, it's clearly not completed by the end of the film series and serves nothing towards the end goal and thus is just yet another hanging plot thread.
      To say this was on purpose actually hurts the film series more than helps it.

I understand the story, but since the emotionless performances took me away from what its,"philosophies" that they were tryimg to express, it just doesn't work in my opinion. Acting and storytelling have to be comnected and for these movies as they give the story emotion and sense, and these movies don't have it. That's just my opinion though. No harsh feeling towards this trilogy.

      Michael Oh, I get what you mean man. I actually thought about that myself when I first watched the Matrix. But I don't know, maybe it's just that for me, emotion is what gives a movie more tension. If it's the movies point to have them be focus and emotionless as they are in a war, that's perfectly fine. If you think the acting and the whole movie in general is great, then go ahead and enjoy man.😉Others and I may find the movie flawed, but there are still great things about it, for me, like it's premise and its action (I'm a sucker for action so yeah). So many problems with this, but 12:21 "best messiah ever" because he sacrificed Zion for Trinity? That's not what happened. The alternate choice was for Neo to choose 16 females and 7 males to repopulate Zion and the rest would be destroyed. So he actually ends up saving far more because he rebuffed the Architect's choices.

    I have a love/hate appreciation of the Nostalgia Critic's review sketches. The programs tend to annoy me greatly because he complains, insults, or makes fun of several aspects that I enjoyed about the movies. Even for some movies that I didn't enjoy or though were just fine shall suffer several of Nostalgia Critic's nearly-unjustified thrashing. On the other hand, some of the moments of the shows are very funny. The Mindy & Buttons routine was hilarious, for example. I hated the way he complained about the Mobil Ave subway stop. However, I never realized the sign was there. Even if I had noticed, I wouldn't have realized it was an anagram for "Limbo."
    Yes, this program often pisses me off, but I learn things and get a good chuckle now and then.
    BTW, the machines planned to annihilate Zion, whether Neo returned to the source or not. The architect said, "This will be the SIXTH time we've destoryed Zion." Because Neo chose to save Trinity, it lead to him stopping the war. So that makes Neo an excellent messiah.

    Just a thought for how the finale for this movie could have been just as bat-shit crazy as the Smith fight in Reloaded: Tom gets the machines to give him access to all the data from the previous 'Ones', powers included, and they all fight the army of Smiths. Now imagine like a dozen Toms versus a million Smiths.

    17:54 as Smith assimilated more programs to his image, he gained more of their respective powers. The Oracle is such an old, powerful program that she literally has God like powers that smith easily took advantage of.

    19:40 Smith was using the Oracle's powers to see the future he describes. The Oracle makes him say something she said earlier in the series "Every that has a beginning has an and end, Neo.", which wasn't in the future he saw. Maybe this timeline was the one exception to the rule, idk. (It's kind of obvious to some, but this is just to clear up what was happening there.)

    I thought the two worst things about this movie were: the kung fu choreography was boring and very simple compared to the first and second films which amazed me and inspired me to research martial arts. The second thing wrong with the movie is that the whole point of Neo in the first one is to eventually destroy the Matrix and set everyone free, and we are told and shown that it's so important it's even ok to kill people in the Matrix for the greater good. I spent years of anticipation and build up for three movies only to see them not deliver in the end. It was just like the show Lost teasing some significance for the numbers, why the "others" were so evil, and why so many people got that weird sickness. They teased us for years so we would come back for each new episode and at the end of the last season they either don't explain it at all, or they just say something lame like "The numbers never meant anything after all. Jacob just has a thing for numbers" You can't promise your audience for years that you will deliver the answer or solution, then end your franchise without a solution.
