I’m on a Mac, and Canon’s website didn’t show a download available for the Mac. However, I downloaded the Windows firmware file instead, and the rest of this process went smoothly. I was able to update my 5D Mark IV to the latest version. Just FYI for anyone using a Mac! Thank you for this video tutorial!

Also when you install the update will erase the camera configuration settings you modify?

The HDMI port should work for an output signal to a big screen. For a computer, you need a specific USB cable to connect.

SO what do you do when you Have this camera, but menu option 5 does NOT show Firmware drop down? The only Drop down I have is. Multi-function lock. Very Frustrating because there are other drop downs, like Sound Recording that are different too? So I am totally lost.

This video as well as the official instructions are missing one crucial information - the camera mode must be in one of the non-automatic modes (eg, P, TV, AV, etc.) ... If you have it in [A] mode, the firmware update option will not be displayed.

Honestly, we would expect anyone to be using this camera in Manual Mode because we are pros and that is what pros use. Automatic Mode is off our radar.

Thanks for this! I reformatted the two different SD cards, inserted them into my mac, and copied the firmware file but then it won't let me paste the file into the card folder on the computer. I can't put any files onto the card from the computer. Thoughts?

Try dragging them. If not successful, restart your computer then try again.

Check the file system of the card. NTFS or Ex-Fat

yes, by default the format of the SD card is wrong. It will only let you copy 4GB or less to it at once. So, right click it and go into properties and change the format from FAT32 to NTFS or exFAT. If your camera has virus issues then contact Canon. Not sure what to do for that specific problem. Have you connected it to unsafe third party sites?

The update doesn't give you CLog. You have to buy that.

The only missing information here is you have to put your camera in M Mode to be able to see the whole menu..lol
