Back in 1979, I was earning £65 a week,so 2 & a half weeks wages,the great thing about these bikes are that you can repair them yourself, not like today’s stuff where a check light come on& it’s back to the dealership
Normally only the 5th gear goes bad due to oil starvation in blocks upto '73 after which they were modified to hold 1400cc instead of 1200cc gearbox oil. My advice would be to do the mod yourself while the block is opened anyway.
