After playing the game for 30 mins I started to see each pot as having different patterns and designs, each blade of grass a chunk of land blowing in the wind, each chest different in it's ornate structure based on location found. It truly is a game that rewards a good imagination with some of the most free form gameplay ever. I killed a king today by putting a bomb on a cat, then selling that cat to his daughter, waiting for her to go home before I detonated it. Name another game that features both cat bombs AND kindercide. I'll wait.
Caves of Qud is a masterpiece. It's ADOM meets Gamma World in the most deliciously outlandish way possible. The systems are deep, and diving into them is rewarding. Also, while the graphical style is quite distinct, once you get used to it, it can even be beautiful. Combined with the absolutely stellar descriptions of characters and objects, and the ethereal soundtrack, Qud has a very compelling aesthetic of its own.
The descriptions are like poetry. The ones about technologically advanced items read like some sort of tech preist is accurately describing them in his own way.
My current character has built a series of teleporters that can take me anywhere I want that I've been to. I had an amazing follower who I decked out in the best gear who was basically imortal. He slipped on a small puddle of slime and fell down a shaft and died on impact. Oops. Wow wasn't expecting that.
I'm fresh and learning but know once I learn the controls better and understand the ui more it's def gonna be top 3. So long Golden Sun 1/2. 4th place is gonna be your new slot.
This game gives my brain an embolism.. Still its mystifying, deep and I will probably never have the patience to submerge myself into the full beauty of this game and that's a sin.
Yeah the "Fantastic community" got offended when a certain Sseth critiqued the game and noted that you couldn't kill a trans bear in game The devs got offended and the community tried to get Sseth killed lmao
Previous character dies. Ok I'll create a new one. Start in Joppa as usual. Moves 1 tile. *Blue Warden snipes the yellow dude who gives you your first quest with freezing ray, runs to his location and kills him as well as 3 other farmers crazy enough to defy his power*. Hummm guess I'll pretend this never happened and go do the quest as usual... "Perfect".
Yeah man try it. I put off trying this for years. Then, withing five minutes of getting it I was hooked. Just make sure you wear headphones. The soundscapes are amazing.
You can find a tattoo gun and give yourself and friends cool tattoos! I gave myself a tramp stamp that says "UWU". My fists each have bulgey and wulgey tattooed respectively.
The controls aren't bad in caves of qud, at least these days, especially if you have a numpad. Movement and melee is really intuitive on it, then basically everything else in the game is space bar, the menus, t for throwing, f for fire weapon, and a for abilities. There's also mouse control for lots of that. You get used to it pretty quickly.
@@jcdenton4911 sseth "reviewed" the game, spam pinged the mods, he got banned because of this, he invited his actual subhuman edgy community to swarm the server as a result, and it got super strict rules afterwards.

200 hours in and I can comfortably say this is my favorite roguelike I've ever played and in at least my top 3 RPGs I've ever played.

Caves of Qud is what Torment: Tides of Numenera should have been but failed to be.

because you never really need to move diag, only interact/attack diag if you have to.

This video lowkey helped me start my channel, been mainly uploading Caves of Qud stuff! 🙏🏼

Do people really find traditional roguelikes hard to get into? I'm comfortable playing roguelikes. I find new games hard to get into.
are you serious? You sound in denial. Anyway, I can get into either.

Don’t cares about graphics all i want in acceptable controls no reason to make it unnecessarily complex we don’t have technical limitations

Well, the creators are making a steam version with graphics. And then there are mods to put graphics in.
