Is there anyway to remove or replace the plastic trim on the bumper without removing the entire bumper?
Perhaps get it soaped and wam and wet n pry pull off

What about all those Christmas tree clips holding the harness. Do those need to come out?
Hey there! Once you disconnect the harness, if there are still plastic fasteners holding the bumper side of the harness to the truck, then those will need to be removed.

Are the bolt patterns the same for a 2017 1500?
The 2500 does not share the same pattern as the 1500. The bumpers would be specific to the 1500 or 25/3500's.

Yes you do. Had to watch this video to see how many bed bolts I needed to loosen. It will not come off without lifting bed.
You could of just removed the bottom hitch than the bumpers
