This was my wife and I song. We were together for 39 years. She passed away May 2020. This song comes on while I'm shopping in the market. Clean up on aisle 5. I can't stop listening even though my heart aches. I can't stop missing her. Music brings such memories, good and sad. Love to all who lost their true love.

Obviously he did the song also but this is actually a separate reporting that was done for the movie back then there was a lot of songs and movies that were not recorded by the artist but by others to minimize royalty payments very close on it but while I don't think Stoney Jackson on stage actually sang it for the movie probably session singers but yeah contrary to popular belief that's not Dan Hartman on the track

Jason, one of the actors is Robert Townsend. He has played many other parts, in late 80's and 90's films. He played Mawby in the Jamaican based movie, the Mighty Quinn with a very young Denzel Washington, he, also played in the acclaimed movie, taken from the stage play 'A soldiers Story', the Hollywood Shuffle with the Wayans brothers, and also in the fictional Motown style movie 'The five Heartbeats.

In the movie the lead singer of this song was the late Winston Forde who was African American. The director Walter Hill didn't think that Dan Hartman voice didn't sound "Black" so he hired Mr Forde. Watch the movie again and you will hear the difference between them. Dan Hartman tried to pitch this song to Hall and Oates, but they already had completed the Big Bam Boom album and didn't need it. I like the movie version and this one as well. RIP Dan and Winston.

I am fairly certain that this is Winston Ford on lead vocal...not Hartman. Great song...Soul, Rock'n Roll, Motown, R&B and even Country Music has all morphed into some soulless slop without good lyrics or ever a powerful beat...The music fell apart about 20 years ago, and now the whole damn country is coming unraveled.

@Denise Bacher very true although I guess the actor certainly got the lip movement synchronized pretty well. Maybe this was the inspiration for Milli Vanilli LOL but yeah this was actually session singers that did the song for the movie same backing track but not Dan Hartman voice that you typically would be hearing playing the song on the radio certainly back in the eighties they did that a lot and to a lesser extent in the 90s to minimize how much they had to pay in royalties because every time the film aired from start to finish songs and all certainly they had to pay all of the artists and easier to pay them a snippet of it to versus the whole kit and caboodle.
Funny thing is since of course Dan Hartman passed away a lot more stations are actually playing the track from the film when it comes up in rotation or request

This would have been a perfect performance on Lip Synch Battle. In The UK so many Boy Bands have admitted that US Boy Bands like Boyz To Men were a major influence on them growing up. Dan Hartman who wrote the Song also wrote James Brown's Comeback Hit "Living In America" and it was parodied as Living With A Hernia. Loleotta Holloway who sang backup on Relight My Fire also sang backup on Good Vibrations with Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch and it was a Hit all over again with Take That (whose Manager Nigel Martin Smith wanted them to be the UK equivalent of New Kids On The Block) with Lulu who sang along with them. The Music was also used in an Commercial for Senchal Perfume in the 1970's as well.

Watching and listening to this song and video, it makes me realize how lucky those of us who grew up in the 1980’s really were. MTV on one hand ruined more than a few recording careers but on the other hand, when you watch this video, it really hits hard that this time will NEVER be equaled. Ever.
This to me, is one of the quintessential performance videos of the 80’s.
This video takes me back to the simpler times. Oh how I miss those.

Two other top rated(but not by critics) was "the 9th gate"(featuring johnny depp) and "the last of the dogmen". During this time the critics would shit on anything not as good as the titanic and then people avoided the movie as a result or copied what the critics would say, the movies have vary good reviews. The 9th gate has a slow burn but it progresses quickly so it doesnt feel like the story is dragging out like similar movies, This movie doesnt explicitly answer all questions but if you pay attention you can guess with high accuracy. though the answers are all fairly obvious IMHO, the writer later came out and clarified for those that wanted to be sure...
