      I think it is because both legal and social restrictions were quite high in 80's. So overcoming of a restriction resulted in heightened mood compared to 2022's...

      Yeah, 38 years at this point. While I'm a 2 left feet kinda guy, I can at least tap 'em whenever I hear the music. BTW, is it me or is the 2011 version kinda blurry? Even at 720 setting. Weird.

      I love remakes unlike most people but I have to agree with you. The 84' version was a bunch of unknowns making a teen movie that the had no idea would go on to become iconic. Their dance scene was like a bunch of people showing off their moves at prom or at a wedding, doing the Soul Train line type thing. The new version was like a flash mob or choreographed dance at a wedding. Still fun and interesting to watch but lacking spontaneous joy

    • @atmos3155
      @atmos3155 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Right? But that's pretty much just because the dancing in the 80s version was more a social dancing. Also, I'm sure there weren't as many studios back then to teach stuff like that, especially street dancing.

    • @Killercoldice22

      @@atmos3155 thats not the point,,,this was a highschool dance,,,at a real high school dance you ain't gonna have dozen fucking people out of no where doing the exact same dancing and doing all these flips in shit. 2011 version was pretty trash.

    • @Jourmand1r
      @Jourmand1r ปีที่แล้ว +10

      yeah because the remake is a shitty soulless modern hollywood movie that needed to meet racial quotas and appear in vines/youtube videos.
      They weren't making a movie. They were trying to create a brand

    • @Jourmand1r
      @Jourmand1r ปีที่แล้ว +3

      dont you understand? they had to have acrobatic flips and break dancing because they had to represent "minority dancing". It had to be in your face the entire time or you might not have seen they were trying.
      They think having dudes doing street dance moves would make this movie popular with Black audiences so they could make more money.
      and before someone says "the original had flips and break dancing"
      Lol no. The OG movie had wacked out white kids pretending to break dance and doing weird flips. It's meant to be goofy because theyre so turnt up.
      the remake has a bunch of professional dancers doing Chris Brown moves.

      well, loved the 80s and admire your love for it too, and while there was no taking of selfies, etc. there was, however, judgment like today. we did want to dance and enjoy the night with our friends, but there was plenty of not being accepted going around back then. In 20-25 years (Hopefully less!) you will look back fondly on your teenage years, and tell stories of it, and your kids and grandkids will probably tell you things about your time just as you are envisioning my teenage years. I enjoyed them a lot, but there was still many of the same probs as today. but this movie was one of the great things that xcame from the 80s!

    The 80s version is definitely the best, although the dancing isn't the best. The remake had better dancing, but it was a little over the top. The Kenny Loggins version of the song Footloose sounded so much better and actually makes the watcher want to get up and dance. Kevin Bacon was definitely better in the role.

      Erica Poitras which is why the acting was awful the original may not have had professional dancers but the high caliber actors made up for it but even with that I still liked the dancing in the original better I was a teenager in the ‘80s so original holds a special place in my heart imo the remake didn’t do the original justice

    I went to a small school in a small southern town, and even tho it was the 90s, this song, "Shout", and "Cotton Eyed Joe" were absolutely mandatory at any school function, Black or White. . . And those were the only songs that guaranteed every student would forget about cliques and crews, and just have fun and be silly. I miss those days!

    I think the 80s one was way better spontainity wise... not choreogtaph... like i read in another comment just a bunch of kids having fun w/o knowing it'd be a hit
    Plus the kid in 2:23 mark was on point! Popping and locking 🤣🤣

    My family use to live by someone that was in the 1984 movie. I haven't seen the 2011 verison all the way through but since my family is friends with that person, it holds special meaning for us. We lived in Orem and the movie was filmed in Lehi. Times really have changed!

      M Muneeb
      You are missing the point, I lived this pal, you are not listening to the lyrics, "everybody could footloose", and that's why this movie was so big, because it was true, we all could do it just like in the movie. What you see in the remake, you gotta be a professional dancer to do that shit, regular people like you couldn't make those moves even in your sleep.

    • @DJoy221
      @DJoy221 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      M Muneeb Kevin Bacon was a very natural dancer, very fluent and real along with all the other dancers in the 80's version, none of it look rehearsed unlike in the movie. Although I did like some of the things they did in the new version it could never be what the 80's version is. Don't even get me started on Blake Shelton's version of Footloose because ugh, that was just not right. Although I do enjoy some of Blake's music it's hard to top Kenny Loggins.

      The 2011 one felt so choreographed. Obviously it’s a movie and it has to be somewhat choreographed and planned but the new one just felt like I was watching a bunch of dancers do a professional performance while the original felt like they were dancing for themselves and just having fun, even if some of them weren’t very good at it. That was kinda the whole point

    • @Thunda1986

      Except for the pop and lock guy at 2:23, everyone in the original *might* be on the upper end of small town teenage dancers. In the remake they are flipping through the air like ninjas.

    The timing in each of the 'final' dances is brilliant in both versions but I cant get away for the 1984 version. It was so ahaad of its time which is evidenced by the fact that it was 'imitated' in 2011. Copying or imitating is the highest form of praise or flattery. This song & dance will never age for me.

  • @lenochod6
    @lenochod6 2 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    I like both versions. But I have to admit the original 1984 has just something so special. Its energy and atmosphere of the dancing and the music is unbelievable. And nothing can be better.
    But still you cannot say that the remake is bad, it is not bad, it is not just so good. But I admit the actors in remake are much more better dancers but sometimes that is not everything so that is why the original will be forever the best.

    • @scz1770
      @scz1770 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      it's because the people in the 80s version weren't doing a whole spectacle bombastic thing, they were just young people dancing and having fun. the 2011 remake was about "let's make this as insane and big as we can" and it lacks heart.

  • @nugeproductions93

    Ok folks, take a step back and look at society around the years these films were made.
    '84 saw the unveiling of apple computer, a society that was all about excess, and in December, saw the creation of Band-aids "do they know its christmas. 1984 embraced movies that got down to just plain un scripted fun as we saw a nation fresh off a recession in a recovering economy.
    Fast forward to 2011, we get the end of the shuttle era, Katy perry and lady gaga take numerous awards, a still weak economy,that hadn't recovered from the Great Recession yet, and a generation that seems to only like mechanized dances, leaving out the pure, self-expression dance. Numerous cultural changes happened between those two years. Movie making changed to. Not many movies of the now really have any hit home or realistic take to them. Movie making now is mostly about making money at the box office and less about how much it mirrors real life

    • @YouTubeGetsWorseAndWorse
      @YouTubeGetsWorseAndWorse 11 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      All movies in a box office aim to make money. That's a goal, no matter how dedicated the director is to the film above all else. There are plenty of films today that are made to mirror real life, just like how there were plenty of films in the 80's that were pure fantasy. Also, call me skeptical, but I doubt you could back up that statement as fact, so please don't try and sell it like it's fact. Nothing against you, but your comment seemed too...well...pretentiously hipster to ignore. Not that I'm saying you're a pretentious hipster. You may be an okay guy in real life.

    As soon as the video started I had a smile on my face. I LOVE Footloose! Then when it got to the remake, my smile faded. not because of the dancing obviously the dancing is good. It just lacks something that the original has. An innocence maybe. Or it could be that Kevin Bacon charm! ;) Gotta love that man.
