The new version was like a flash mob or choreographed dance at a wedding. Still fun and interesting to watch but lacking spontaneous joy

+Juanita Franklin No comparison and did make my comment above. This 2011 version sucked in my estimation and as I said, leave the Classics alone and find another story line to bring it into this era and don't mess with what worked the first time. Not in favor of remaking classics.

It was mad fun and a great feeling of freedom always knowing that you could do anything back then. Hands up and rock on to all my peeps loving it all from the 80's! These movies especially ones so highly energetic like this one nobody will ever forget. Kevin Bacon ruled the floors here no freakin doubt! 80's HERE WE COME AGAIN!!! YEAH!
To me the people that saw their movie when it came out should pretty much be on their deathbed Before You remake it that's how old it should be, not people like me that saw when I was young and I'm still early 30s (36 sry😢🤣) 😂

The original movie came out three years after my mom graduated high school, while the 2011 adaptation came out when I was 16. In my opinion, both are immaculate and boomers to millennials alike can relate as the same story is told in two very different time periods. It’s safe to say, I love them both.
Denischa Briddell you can always tell when a society is. collapsing. when movie makers try and make a great movie better and turns out to be crap! that movie was made for the 80's. Don't poison an icon with today's no, class, no style Bs!!

That was back when a movie was actually enjoyable to act in, no buddy was striving for perfection, just something real, where you could tell the actor's were enjoying there rolls, they truly were having fun... I always loved 80's and 90's movie's...
I think the 80s one was way better spontainity wise... not choreogtaph... like i read in another comment just a bunch of kids having fun w/o knowing it'd be a hit Plus the kid in 2:23 mark was on point! Popping and locking 🤣🤣
My family use to live by someone that was in the 1984 movie. I haven't seen the 2011 verison all the way through but since my family is friends with that person, it holds special meaning for us. We lived in Orem and the movie was filmed in Lehi. Times really have changed!
yes because it gives nostalgia otherwise it is very obvious that new version is more fast and much better.. also this new lead dancer is more talented dancer than kevin bacon
M Muneeb You are missing the point, I lived this pal, you are not listening to the lyrics, "everybody could footloose", and that's why this movie was so big, because it was true, we all could do it just like in the movie. What you see in the remake, you gotta be a professional dancer to do that shit, regular people like you couldn't make those moves even in your sleep.
M Muneeb Kevin Bacon was a very natural dancer, very fluent and real along with all the other dancers in the 80's version, none of it look rehearsed unlike in the movie. Although I did like some of the things they did in the new version it could never be what the 80's version is. Don't even get me started on Blake Shelton's version of Footloose because ugh, that was just not right. Although I do enjoy some of Blake's music it's hard to top Kenny Loggins.
I love the 1984 version everyone's just being goofy and having fun even though no one is really a great dancer, unlike the 2011, they try to make it seem like everyone got moves.
The 2011 one felt so choreographed. Obviously it’s a movie and it has to be somewhat choreographed and planned but the new one just felt like I was watching a bunch of dancers do a professional performance while the original felt like they were dancing for themselves and just having fun, even if some of them weren’t very good at it. That was kinda the whole point
Except for the pop and lock guy at 2:23, everyone in the original *might* be on the upper end of small town teenage dancers. In the remake they are flipping through the air like ninjas.
The timing in each of the 'final' dances is brilliant in both versions but I cant get away for the 1984 version. It was so ahaad of its time which is evidenced by the fact that it was 'imitated' in 2011. Copying or imitating is the highest form of praise or flattery. This song & dance will never age for me.
I like both versions. But I have to admit the original 1984 has just something so special. Its energy and atmosphere of the dancing and the music is unbelievable. And nothing can be better. But still you cannot say that the remake is bad, it is not bad, it is not just so good. But I admit the actors in remake are much more better dancers but sometimes that is not everything so that is why the original will be forever the best.
it's because the people in the 80s version weren't doing a whole spectacle bombastic thing, they were just young people dancing and having fun. the 2011 remake was about "let's make this as insane and big as we can" and it lacks heart.
Ok folks, take a step back and look at society around the years these films were made. '84 saw the unveiling of apple computer, a society that was all about excess, and in December, saw the creation of Band-aids "do they know its christmas. 1984 embraced movies that got down to just plain un scripted fun as we saw a nation fresh off a recession in a recovering economy. Fast forward to 2011, we get the end of the shuttle era, Katy perry and lady gaga take numerous awards, a still weak economy, that hadn't recovered from the Great Recession yet, and a generation that seems to only like mechanized dances, leaving out the pure, self-expression dance. Numerous cultural changes happened between those two years. Movie making changed to. Not many movies of the now really have any hit home or realistic take to them. Movie making now is mostly about making money at the box office and less about how much it mirrors real life
All movies in a box office aim to make money. That's a goal, no matter how dedicated the director is to the film above all else. There are plenty of films today that are made to mirror real life, just like how there were plenty of films in the 80's that were pure fantasy. Also, call me skeptical, but I doubt you could back up that statement as fact, so please don't try and sell it like it's fact. Nothing against you, but your comment seemed too...well...pretentiously hipster to ignore. Not that I'm saying you're a pretentious hipster. You may be an okay guy in real life.
***** Band Aid and Live Aid were 2 different things. Band Aid was a British project with the "Do They Know It's Christmas" recording. Live Aid was a global concert.
TheJodo2010 Honestly, I was 20 when 84 came out, Almost Paradise was the song I danced to at my wedding with my wife. But the remake was far better in almost every way.
The truth is that I am 60 and I danced (learned the moves of Kevin Bacon) so many times at 1984 version. Today, while I was watching this video on my chair and said to myself "why not". Sorry for my neighbours in the first floor. Could not help myself. So beautiful memories.
As soon as the video started I had a smile on my face. I LOVE Footloose! Then when it got to the remake, my smile faded. not because of the dancing obviously the dancing is good. It just lacks something that the original has. An innocence maybe. Or it could be that Kevin Bacon charm! ;) Gotta love that man.

Exactly!
Agree 100%
I have never seen footloose the 2011 one or the 1984 version but it sounds like the 1984 footloose is better than the 2011 one
oh hell yeah!!! that's exactly what the 1984 version was all about, just having a great time, not show off bullshit
I agree
The 1984 version is far superior to the 2011 version. I miss the 80s.
I miss remembering the eighties 😳😷🇨🇦
Absolutly
The remake sucks👎🤮
I agree wholeheartedly and I have the 80s version on my playlist, always :)
I agree 100%. I miss the 80's also. Good times.
It's 2019 and this song is still a favorite . A real evergreen. Love it!
It's 2022 now and it's still popular.
Good lawd my man @2:27 killed it! I was 9yo when this movie was made so I couldn’t appreciate the pop-locking then
2020: Kevin Bacon still finding glitter in his hair.
...but hardly anyone else is.
That Rogaine...!
🤣😂
I literally lol’ed😆
😂😂🤣
I genuinely laughed 🤣
Nobody can beat the energy of Kenny Loggins
Kevin Bacon
I think we knew what U meant - Cheers
Who wishes that Kevin, John Travolta, Patrick Swayze all had a dance off in the 80s
Omg that would be like the best thing ever!!😎😎
Who would win i wonder
yep
Oh girl! I would watch that movie to many times!
@@coryskidgel3932 me2 i'd probably copy the moves with my grown self ol
The 1984 movie will always be the best
I'm a pretty jaded skeptic.
But dance sequences like this are just pure, joyous magic. This is my 3rd watch-through and my smile hasn't faded. Pretty amazing. Both versions.
THUMBS UP IF YOU LOVED 1984 BETTER!!!
Yes
Way, Way WAY up!!!!
+Juanita Franklin No comparison and did make my comment above. This 2011 version sucked in my estimation and as I said, leave the Classics alone and find another story line to bring it into this era and don't mess with what worked the first time. Not in favor of remaking classics.
+Melanie Philip if they really cared about the classics the redos would be even more epic^
thumbs up to that the Ren in the 2011 version is cute
2:27 did the best freakin dance and you CANNOT change my mind.
Colby whats the actors name?!
look at how the people in the back are dancing / clapping. so funny
Best dancer and no one knows who he is?
I like the kid before him
@@theon_ean_donly I went searching for his name myself, apparently his name is Steve Hammers
No matter how many remakes they do, nothing beats the original Saturday Night Fever, Dirty Dancing, Footloose and Flashdance.
I like the 1984 version WAAAAAY better :D I saw the '84 movie and I loved it :) I think it's more fun and just awesome, and 0:45 is seriously the best part ever lol
Ouch ghhj k
I agree with you whole-heartedly! The 2011 version just isn't the same...
Ya lol
it's the glitter
Nothing can compare to the original!

From the original to the remake what a difference!! The drop of enthusiasm and energy is beyond the scale. Nothing bits the original!
100 % de acuerdo.
big hair, friends, good tunes and no cell phones
exacto!!!
Agreed!
yeah...remember those days when we had to use our mouths to speak to people? I told my daughter "you don't know what records are!!" she said "Oh yes I do!! those are those great big black cds!" lol
+Mike Lazembie actually she does have a point...lmao
I refuse to get on board with those, I'll never cell out. LAN line is plenty.
hands down plus two thumbs up for the 80's decade. All these movies from back then were all and still are awesome. YEAH!
I was a junior in high school in 1984 when Footloose came to the theaters - this movie meant so much to me!
No more songs or dance like this,so pure and done with heart and soul!!!BRAVO!!!!
2:23 As a kid I used to watch this scene on repeat for this guy alone. I had such a crush on like a 15 second character lol.
They really need to stop making remakes of classic movies so quickly after the original because how do you improve on such awesomeness !!
27 years is obviously quick
@@prodbyjko right! Like SOOO fast⚡
They were like foot loose+token diversity=fixed it🤪
To me the people that saw their movie when it came out should pretty much be on their deathbed Before You remake it that's how old it should be, not people like me that saw when I was young and I'm still early 30s (36 sry😢🤣) 😂
Good point, leave the movies how they were there better in the originals
Só quem dançou esses passos combinados sabe o que é passar a semana toda ensaiando para dançar com a turma no fim de semana. Ah, que saudades que tenho desse tempo!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Brilliant and the message is very simple …. The world would be a better place if people just DANCE 🕺
The original movie came out three years after my mom graduated high school, while the 2011 adaptation came out when I was 16. In my opinion, both are immaculate and boomers to millennials alike can relate as the same story is told in two very different time periods. It’s safe to say, I love them both.
Exacto, respetos la original pero la versión moderna es genial 😏😍 conocí la otra película por la versión del 2011
read the second comment
How about Gen X? This is our generation.😂
I love the 1984 version. honestly there was no need for a remake.
Yeah it sould stay so
Luis I barely watched the whole movie. I wasn't impressed.
Way on way
me too I like the 1984 one
Denischa Briddell
you can always tell when a society is. collapsing. when movie makers try and make a great movie better and turns out to be crap! that movie was made for the 80's. Don't poison an icon with today's no, class, no style Bs!!
Original is so much natural and incredible❤️ love the 80’s
Some classics just cannot be remade. 1984 just wins on ALL levels.
Dance is forbidden...but everybody dances like pros.
Manuel Lugo just because it was forbidden doesn’t mean they’d never dance before in secret or before the rule was made 😂
Public dancing was against the law. Key word there being public. So they could have danced in the privacy of their homes or danced anyways.
Manuel Lugo The ones the camera doesn't focus on, dance like Baby's sister.
when you feel the music, you feel the music
Exactly !!!
I can't believe The Umbrella Academy made me return here😂😅
See the umbrella vs the sparrow dancing is the best thing i see in this year till now, even id ir was an allucination
@@Retrogamer-pl9zu I was so confused! But I was enjoying it too much to figure out the logistics of it so once we realised it's a hallucination,it made sense😂
I was so excited when they did that theme bc its my favorite dance movie
I was watching this to try and figure out if they changed the dance to see if I was learning the og version or the umbrella academy version, turns out I'm learning the umbrella academy version ajjajaja
I see that kkkkkkkk
A heck of a way to leave high school with the lyrics of the classic Footloose song by Kenny Loggins.
I sincerely prefer the 1984 version all the way.
I just somehow feels more real, fun, not amped up too much.
That was back when a movie was actually enjoyable to act in, no buddy was striving for perfection, just something real, where you could tell the actor's were enjoying there rolls, they truly were having fun... I always loved 80's and 90's movie's...
@@bigreddes2000 you’re a moron they still do that today
Definitely have to agree the 80's version. The. Best
This always makes me smile , I bet every kid there forgot that the cameras were rolling 🔥🌷 The original to me is the best one..
I think the 80s one was way better spontainity wise... not choreogtaph... like i read in another comment just a bunch of kids having fun w/o knowing it'd be a hit
Plus the kid in 2:23 mark was on point! Popping and locking 🤣🤣
1984...my favorite
The 80s will always hold a spot in my soul I'm 18 years old love the 80s lol

The original was just so magical so genuine!!!! Kevin Bacon had major swag he was just too cool !!!
You said it right: "genuine"!
Agreed, can't say it any better
The 84 dance version is more energetic and makes you wanna dance with everyone. They rock hands down.
My family use to live by someone that was in the 1984 movie. I haven't seen the 2011 verison all the way through but since my family is friends with that person, it holds special meaning for us. We lived in Orem and the movie was filmed in Lehi. Times really have changed!
There will always be one and only one Footloose! The 80’s!
80's version will ALWAYS top
yes because it gives nostalgia otherwise it is very obvious that new version is more fast and much better.. also this new lead dancer is more talented dancer than kevin bacon
M Muneeb most fast and more edited, its not talent of dancers
M Muneeb
You are missing the point, I lived this pal, you are not listening to the lyrics, "everybody could footloose", and that's why this movie was so big, because it was true, we all could do it just like in the movie.
Although I do enjoy some of Blake's music it's hard to top Kenny Loggins.

.....
I love the 1984 version everyone's just being goofy and having fun even though no one is really a great dancer, unlike the 2011, they try to make it seem like everyone got moves.
Except for that one dude. Like how do you do that with your body?!
It was the modern era of course people would be better dancers in 2011
Except for the pop and lock guy at 2:23, everyone in the original *might* be on the upper end of small town teenage dancers. In the remake they are flipping through the air like ninjas.
exactly
I like them both but there's just something about the original that makes it special. Good energy and vibe in both videos.
It's Kevin bacon.
And nostalgia!!!
And that is why any remake of an 80's movie will always be nothing but a mere shadow of the original.
This movie is so stupid I don't know how people can watch this crap
TheJodo2010 Honestly, I was 20 when 84 came out, Almost Paradise was the song I danced to at my wedding with my wife. But the remake was far better in almost every way.
Umbrella Academy did a fine job to bring me back to this classic 👌
The truth is that I am 60 and I danced (learned the moves of Kevin Bacon) so many times at 1984 version. Today, while I was watching this video on my chair and said to myself "why not". Sorry for my neighbours in the first floor. Could not help myself. So beautiful memories.
You know, for a town that outlawed dancing these kids sure have some moves
WHAT TF OUTLAWED DANCING WHY DAMN ID BE ON DEATH ROW THEN OR LIFER
What fun! I would have been right there in the middle of it! Love this!
Christina Doxstader That was the whitest dancing I have ever seen in my life. And I actually know white folks who can dance.
If you outlaw dancing then only outlaws will dance. ;)
It was outlawed recently (in the movie), so they already knew how to dance. It's not that it was generations of no dancing going on.
84 one looked more realistic more crowded in on the floor and also the new one feels like it was scripted and artificial.
They all seem to be having so much fun in the 1984 verison. Imagine being in that scene.
80s MUSIC is UNBEATABLE and far ahead of these times !!! The world need another POP/ROCK revolution !
When the guy in the white is dancing, at around 2:42 you can see him (the same guy) in the crowd with Ren and Ariel, cheering.
He's fast apparently
+MeganKerri OMG you're right I never noticed that. They did a bad cut I guess lol.
omg...I have seen this movie a hundred times, but I never noticed that!!

The dancing of the remake is far better but the atmosphere in the original seems more genuine.
Agree with you, 1984 is fun, 2011 is profesional
Although, if everyone in the town was out of practice since rock became illegal then the 1984 version is more reliable
The real souls of this movie is fun and dance. For me the 2011 lacked the fun part.
The 80's version just felt more real because it wasn't full of professional dancers. Yes the 2011 version looks better for obvious reasons but it feels overly produced.
That break dancer in the original.......NO ONE BEATS THAT...
Kevin Bacon YOU ROCK!!! When my little brother & I were on the way to the Caboolture Drive In to see this they played this song on the radio!!! Rock & Roll FOREVER!!!
