    1st - congrats on these videos. I've watched a few, and as someone who understands and appreciates the need for quality, 👏🏾. Crisp video and great sound. Now, I just wanted to share a few sentiments. The one thing that concerns me (and this is for anyone reading this), this is a very expensive proposition:
    2 Macs, Sony mirrorless, Shure mic, iPhone, iPad, 2 elgato capture cards + stream deck, ecamm pro account, Oh yea... there's 1 PC too 🙃. And that's just the items we saw. There must be about $7000 in hardware there. let's not forget the solid internet this needs. I know this is really non of your concern ultimately, but I think about this a lot for those who want to get going. But you're doing great content, so keep going.
    The last bit I'll mention is that 70% of TH-cam content is consumed on mobile (I research this data for work), I actually watched this in bed on my phone, and transitioned to the laptop to write this. I gather your brand colors are this kind of Tiffany blue w/ white text. On a phone, it's a challenging read, esp for ppl w/ low vision. In fact, it doesn't meet the contrast requirements (again, an area I work in). Again, this may mean little to you, but if you could darken that background color or heavier fonts, you would prob convey some of your content w/ more clarity, esp for the ones watching this on phones. Anyhow, you're making great content. I've been considering eCamm as it looks like what i want/need to enhance the streams (conf speakers here)... Just need a few more q?s answered. Cheers from Toronto!

      Hi Henri, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. It's appreciated.
      For the tech, since facilitating live workshops is my core job, I have made investments in this tech over time. My aim is to teach a variety of ways to get set up, and luckily, most people can elevate the quality of their presentations with free software, eye contact, and some good lighting.
      Regarding the contrast, that's a really helpful point and I will take that into consideration. I do want my content to be accessible!

    This is great! I have been trying to figure out how to share my laptop screen with my Mac Mini (dedicated to Ecamm Live) for the past few days! NDI to the rescue! I'm finding your other Ecamm videos (e.g., how to create animations in Keynote => export & use in Ecamm) really useful. Thanks!

    My iPad Mini is not showing as video capture device in OBS when connected via USB to my computer. Do you have to install a plugin in OBS for this to work?

  • @eyckpoetter
    @eyckpoetter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, I do it in a similar way. Windows PC connects to zoom, other devices are Laptop, ipad (to quickly draw with pencil in some apps (goodnotes or so), what I can´t do with my Windows PC/ Windows Laptop )), iphone (rarely) or other cams filming my hardware whiteboard. I bring the other devices in with an BMD Atem Mini Pro now, before that I used as a starting point also the HD 60S+. Can´t have enough inputs. Cat, like your content a lot, so well presented. Just found your channel by chance. And subscribed. Go on doing it that way. Thank you! And you may find it useful to join John Barkers Here2record server on discord (if you haven´t already), will meet a lot of nice people from the field there.

    Would NDI work on an ATEM Mini Pro so that I could use the network output as a camera rather than have to use the record output lead. That way I can use the USB c Ouput to record.

    Great stuff, congrats! I'm just wondering if turning off the camera's auto focus is a good idea to stop refocusing during presentation, when you are not showing something close to the camera. Sometimes it happens on yours, and is the only detail in your brilliant presentations. I know on DSLR cameras is possible but not sure about webcams, any ideas on that? Tks

      Yes, I agree with you. I had been putting this off because it's not easy to change the settings while set up in my teleprompter... and earlier this week I tried adjusting and it did not go well.
      It's on my list of things to come back to!

    Re: Zoom presentations: I have heard that presenting a PPT as a camera input causes much lower resolution than using Zoom's native "Screen Share" feature. Have you had this problem, and if so, is there a workaround? I would love to present my PPT in Zoom using ECamm. Thank you for these videos! So helpful!!!

    Love your hair cut and the information! Can you tell me where to get the download for the NDI scan converter? The only thing that I see is the access manager download. Also, can the NDI be used with two pc's connected by ethernet to the ethernet switch? I have most of these things that you speak about in the video. However, I need to learn how to use them. I am learning soo much from your videos! Thank you!

    • @CatMulvihill
      @CatMulvihill  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the kind compliment! If you scroll to the bottom of the page (ndi.tv/tools/) you can see the Download option and it downloads a pack that contains all the tools. On a PC, you are looking for the Screen Capture (I'm not sure why they have different names!). And yes, if you have 2 PCs connected with a switch, all you need is the NDI software.
      I'm going to make a video just on NDI set-up soon.

    Hey Cat thanks so much for the tips. One thing you didn’t cover that I really need help with is how you’re putting a border around your camera in Zoom and also having that blue background. For me when I screen share my presentation & record it puts a black background and my camera is just the typical box. How do you make yours look nice like that?

    • @CatMulvihill
      @CatMulvihill  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a virtual camera for Zoom, so I can bring in the effects. I have a video about it here: th-cam.com/video/53G2kEBqAlM/w-d-xo.html

    I'm confused about why there isn't a date on this video. Is it because it was a live video? I've seen a few of your videos not have dates. I really like knowing how long ago videos were made.

    • @CatMulvihill
      @CatMulvihill  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of my videos are recorded live, which might be part of it. Instead of date, it will say "Streamed X weeks or months ago".

    Does NDI cost money to run

  • @mathewstillerreeve

    As always, super helpful. Thanks Cat. I will be attempting to connect a second device via capture card to my main iMac in the next couple of days. If the second device is showing a Keynote presentation with a transparent background, will that transparency directly translate within Ecamm? Will I be able to see what's underneath if I layer the Keynote from the second device on top of another camera input within an Ecamm scene?... Did that make sense?

    • @CatMulvihill
      @CatMulvihill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! If you bring in the presentation with a capture card or NDI, you can add Keynote as an overlay. However, instead of having the Keynote slides with a transparent background, the background would be green, and in Ecamm's Camera Effects, you would choose the "camera"/capture card from the drop down list, then select Green Screen and check off Transparent PIP.
      This is actually a great idea for a new video, so I'll do a demonstration of it soon!

    Fascinating video Cat. You have a lot going on with your setup! Terrific idea to use presentation content as a camera source over ethernet using NDI. I have two workstations and a laptop all connected via ethernet to a modem (for internet); it sounds like all that's needed is the right NDI software to move the screen information from one PC to another as a video source. I had tried the NDI tools for another video use case but the audio quality did not work out. Look forward to seeing more on how you set up the various NDI application if you have the opportunity.

    On your 8 port device is which is the input that you plug your router into or does it matter? How do I get the IP address of my second computer?

    • @CatMulvihill
      @CatMulvihill  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does not matter which port you use (but always read your instructions!).
      To get your IP, go into the 2nd computer's network settings. The IP address should be listed there.

    Great stuff here! Question: If I’m running OBS on my Mac mini (main pc) with a webcam, during a live stream, can I use the FaceTime camera on my MacBook Pro (2nd computer) during a stream as a second camera angle via the Ethernet switch?

    • @CatMulvihill
      @CatMulvihill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting question! When you connect your MacBook Pro via NDI, it treats your screen as the camera, showing whatever is on the screen. So as long as your screen was displaying you from your FaceTime camera, I don't see why it wouldn't work. If you test it, I'd love to hear if it works.

    • @CanvassData

      @@CatMulvihill It works! I got to work wirelessly without hxcapture but the obsndi plugin. It’s a little laggy. I’m waiting on my switch and will circle back when I have it connected via ethernet
