@@andrehowardhoward4770 Not really, he is very blunt and straightfoward like Shirou, but with a lot more of open sarcasm (Shirou tends to keep his smartass comments on his head, unless is about teasing Rin and to a lesser extent Saber), generally he tries to act like a robot that only follow his masters orders, but ocasionally show sings of being more to him than that, usually around Shirou. What is presents as cryptic about him are his powers, Archers magic is very weird and the way he fights confuse the people around him, him using Rho Aias to stop Gae Bolg actually made Lancer mad with him and wonder how an Archer could have a shield capable of stopping an anti-army weapon.

Dude Logan kills it on a good day, but those two lines, there was so much pain and frustration, and the unspoken 'Why couldn't you do that for me.' It is one of the most twistedly tragic aspects of EMIYA's backstory; that he still had feelings for Saber, but failed to save her heart. He is essentially a Fate Route Shirou that never sought Avalon -- who followed Kiritsugu's path until it destroyed him just like his father.

You could also think of this as a new game+ for archer and nothing is going as he saw in the last playthru

If I recall correctly, Medea was in love with Jason, and in the eyes of the gods (especially Hera), was doing the right thing helping Jason and the Argonauts obtain the Golden Fleece. Jason however started courting the princess of another kingdom while already married to Medea, which is a BEEG no-no in the gods' eyes, especially Hera, goddess of marriage. That is why Medea gets away scot-free with murdering the princess, her and Jason's two children, and unintentionally the king. Meanwhile Jason dies at the hands of the only monument of his accomplishments, that being squished by the rotting lumber corpse of the Argo, his ship.
It gives an extra layer of hilarity cause it does lampshade actual Fate's Shirou, having developed a rather unhealthy disconnect with his own mortality because of the scabbard's healing properties. I'm pretty sure his having the scabbard led him to be saved from injury a bunch when he took risks, which, combined with his survivor's guilt and hero complex, led him to throw himself at danger, not appreciating the danger he was putting himself in because...hey I've healed from all the other times. This, of course, does not work when you're facing magical servants that can cleave you in literal two...and that does happen in at least one of the bad ends of the VN when he throws himself in front of Herc's blade to protect someone...it does not end well.

"I want that!" really is such a perfect catchphrase for Shirou. Tracing and UBW allows him to almost perfectly recreate and copy nearly any weapon he has seen with his own eyes. Including copying the skills needed to wield the weapon equal to its original owner, and also use its magical abilities. Even with Noble Phantasms. In other words, Shirou and Archer's entire magic potential and combat philosophy is all just centered around seeing something cool and then being able to immediately achieve that cool thing and use it for themselves. It really is the ultimate manifestation of "I want that!" It's almost like the writers did that on purpose...

He said that with the most absolute excitement and knowing everything in hindsight you still can't even tell if it's because Archer is a weaponry enthusiast and finding out about new weapon abilities is awesome to him, or if it's because his original plan was to bullshit a way to block Gae Bolg's normal Noble Phantasm and now that plan's been subverted and this is much easier, or if he actually does know about Gae Bolg's thrown NP and was trying to force Lancer to use this exact thing the whole time.
@@CenturyBlade it's pretty clear from his internal monologue when Cu throws it that he had no idea what it did. He was less excited and more terrified that whatever secondary ability gae bolg had would be something he couldn't block with rho aias, screwing up his entire plan.

Rho Aias wouldn't have been able to block Gae Bolg's main NP, the one that Archer was supposedly prepared for, so what in the hell was Archer's original plan to thwart an attack that rewrites cause and effect? Using Rho Aias was a last moment reaction to a subversion that, all things considered, is a lot simpler to deal with. TBH it honestly never made sense, even in the source material, for Lancer to use that.
Archers reaction after seeing Saber finally being there for Shiro despite her goals is sooooooo underrated. It has such a perfect delivery... With all that pain and frustration from his on story

Technically thats no where close to her full power. She can't unleash the full power of excalibur unless the world itself is in danger, as (for fate anyways) its the weapon that protect the world. So it powers up in response to a need, which is also why its considered by many heroic spirits to be the most powerful weapon, despite their obviously being weapons out there that are better at killing / mass destruction / etc. Theoretically, the only true limit to her power is how much "energy" or mana/spirit/chi/energy drinks the world itself has, since the world is its power.
Nope she's nowhere near her FP as her full power Excalibur is so strong that it could literally deflect Ea even though gil used 1/4 of it's actual power but it wouldn't make much of a difference if used at full power because of Avalon but however Ea could still kill saber if Gil used Ea at the earth below but then the counter force would kill Gilgamesh if he ever thinks of doing so and yeah pretty much Avalon saber is one of the few counters for Ea
Cutting back and forth between Rin wailing on Caster and Rho Aias shattering? Absolute perfection. The original had the two scenes play out one at time, but this is so much better thematically and for pacing.
"Saber! Stop him" "But he's just so interesting, what is he doing?!" Probably the most genuine reason an anime character has ever given for why they stood there and did not interrupt the enemy charging their ultimate.
So, my favorite bit about the universal greeting is that it means of one three things and I don't know which is a funnier idea: 1. Kirei is a fan of Transformers and showed it to Rin and Gil a bunch 2. Tokiomi was a Transformers fan who then subjugated his family, Kirei and Gilgamesh to the film 3. The Grail deems the universal greeting more important information than Hiroshima

What makes this cruel aside her blueballing him from killing Shirou, is the fact that this version of Saber is fully willing to choose her Shirou over the grail, despite not even being romantically close to him like Archer was to his Saber

Archer trying to hard course correct by making sure Caster and Kuzuki die to an Archer after figuring out his game guide is both out of date and full of the wrong information. It probably hit him when Cu was absolutely wrecking him. All he remembers about Lancer: 1, the blue guy who was fighting evenly with the red guy in the school courtyard. 2, guy whose spear he wanted. 3, guy who stabbed him through the chest. 4, guy whose spear he didn't want anymore. 5, guy who lost pretty easily to Saber. 6, guy who fought Gilgamesh for a day and died nebulously. Archer gets to actually fight Cu. The real Cu.
The fact that one of the strongest Servants in the War gives off such a bad impression purely due to the fucking priest's orders is hilarious to me. Kotomine really be fucking everyone over in any way he can.

I really like the "change" in story. In the original i never really understood EMIYAS Motives. Clearly his words never matched his actions but i never noticed that this was actually part of his plan. So i appreciate the "dumbing down" for me by this series a lot.
I just realized an excellent line that can reveal Archer's name if they don't get it "So, Saber you dealt with the Father and the Son (children) now how about dealing with the Heroic Spirit of the Emiya family
@@carlosgarza400 It all makes sense. Zero is grim, filled with bloodshed and divine retribution for hubris, and almost a "foundational myth" for the later parts of the saga. Stay night is way more heroic and uplifting, and don't tell me Shirou and pals chasing after Sakura in her darkest hour ain't something some youth pastor could spin into some salvation story.

Archer “betrayed” rin in the first place to get himself this exact situation where he could exhaust most, if not all of casters magic supply and make her easy to kill, as you can see in the lack of magic she casts to protect herself during rin’s physical attacks

It also adds more to his backstory, since we know Archer is Shiro from another timeline where he was unable to get Saber to give up her desire for the Grail. The anger and frustration he has at her showing humanity in this timeline when she didn't for him, it really shows Archer's pain.
I love Archer when he is out of f*cks to give and fully remembers previous timelines. The sas he gives to everyone with the knowledge he has no reason to know in their minds is such a great mood.

Holy Fuck, it took me almost an hour to realize it, but Shirou and Emiya thing about being, Nightwing and Batman, WORKS. Archer as Batman works way too well, plus his parallel with Shirou being Nightwing works too! Shirou is about to show that those ideals don't have to be dark and gritty, but hopeful and full of light. And Archer has to realize it himself.
And the thing is, Bruce wanted Dick to not turn out like him. Which ironically, made Dick the perfect person to take up the mantle of Batman when Bruce has disappeared for an extended period or died.

It was viewed as her discarding her humanity in order to become a king. In fate route, since shirou treated her as a normal girl instead of a servant. She is considerably more stoic and serious than in ubw or hf. And her wish was not that she wanted to redo the sword of selection and be happy. She wanted to delete the girl Artoria from the past and the saber herself would become a counter guardian once she obtained the holy grail. So the theme of fate route was shirou trying to accept her past, move on and live for herself(preferably with him). He succeeded in the end by making saber rejecting the grail even before they realize it was corrupted. According to Nasu, Archer's route played out almost like in the fate route except that he could not save saber's humanity. So he was being salty that abridged shirou made saber stop pursuing grail without trying.

This episode was actually beautiful from the Archer's interaction with Lancer and Kuzuki's final stand. I absolutely cannot wait for what you guys will do with Shirou versus Archer and Shirou versus Gilgamesh.

This episode was 100% maximum no chill. So worth the wait. Ever since practically the beginning of this abridged series I have been waiting for the day when Rin would finally become Saber's master, and it finally happened.
Aaaagh this is so great! Archer getting so upset at the end was wonderful. "Oh, this is the world where you come into your humanity?! This one! Where it's the biggest pain in the ass for me?! Where was this... when... (sigh) Never mind."
Can we all take a moment to appreciate how amazing Caster was in this series? Everything about her, the writing, the voice work, her personality, all of it just came together beautifully into the very best kind of villain; the kind who truly enjoys being the bad guy. RIP Medea. Gilgamesh will never replace you in our hearts.

This is unironically one of the highest quality abridged series to exist, like some episodes alone put it at the top, its just so high quality in terms of effort and care, which is not to say others dont show that, but there's always very genuine about how mouthwash does things and thats communicated so well in the script, voice acting, editing and music choices.

Rin's voice acting on 'the plan' was flawless. I can hear the exclamation marks jumping off the script and into my ears. Shirou's deadpan was the perfect counter part. STEP 1! (I'm already laughing) STEP 2!! (I choked on some water) STEP 3!!! (Pause, choke and laugh and choke and laugh) And then Kuzuki says 'fists on' and I'm dead.

Really most of the HGW crap traces back to Zouken's ambitions, since he and his buddies came up with the HGW system in the first place, no?

The song is "Stranger I Remain" by Free Dominguez. We picked it because it perfectly sums up Caster (and to a lesser but still wonderful degree, Archer), and is highly fitting for her final battle. Also because it slaps. Go play Metal Gear Rising.

@@andrehowardhoward4770 Not really, he is very blunt and straightfoward like Shirou, but with a lot more of open sarcasm (Shirou tends to keep his smartass comments on his head, unless is about teasing Rin and to a lesser extent Saber), generally he tries to act like a robot that only follow his masters orders, but ocasionally show sings of being more to him than that, usually around Shirou. What is presents as cryptic about him are his powers, Archers magic is very weird and the way he fights confuse the people around him, him using Rho Aias to stop Gae Bolg actually made Lancer mad with him and wonder how an Archer could have a shield capable of stopping an anti-army weapon.
@Andre Howard Howard David said it right. Though I will add that once you know what Archer is, his parody really fits him. He's not trying to be an elusive asshole, he's just really good at it. Archer is a very tired man at the end of a VERY taxing timeline

Dude Logan kills it on a good day, but those two lines, there was so much pain and frustration, and the unspoken 'Why couldn't you do that for me.' Those lines were such a gut punch in the best possible way.
It is one of the most twistedly tragic aspects of EMIYA's backstory; that he still had feelings for Saber, but failed to save her heart. He is essentially a Fate Route Shirou that never sought Avalon -- who followed Kiritsugu's path until it destroyed him just like his father.

In Archer's experience saber wouldn't do the same for him and believed she would step aside in this timeline to accomplish her goal.
You could also think of this as a new game+ for archer and nothing is going as he saw in the last playthru

It gives an extra layer of hilarity cause it does lampshade actual Fate's Shirou, having developed a rather unhealthy disconnect with his own mortality because of the scabbard's healing properties. I'm pretty sure his having the scabbard led him to be saved from injury a bunch when he took risks, which, combined with his survivor's guilt and hero complex, led him to throw himself at danger, not appreciating the danger he was putting himself in because...hey I've healed from all the other times. This, of course, does not work when you're facing magical servants that can cleave you in literal two...and that does happen in at least one of the bad ends of the VN when he throws himself in front of Herc's blade to protect someone...it does not end well.

Tracing and UBW allows him to almost perfectly recreate and copy nearly any weapon he has seen with his own eyes. Including copying the skills needed to wield the weapon equal to its original owner, and also use its magical abilities. Even with Noble Phantasms.
In other words, Shirou and Archer's entire magic potential and combat philosophy is all just centered around seeing something cool and then being able to immediately achieve that cool thing and use it for themselves.
It really is the ultimate manifestation of "I want that!"

Rho Aias wouldn't have been able to block Gae Bolg's main NP, the one that Archer was supposedly prepared for, so what in the hell was Archer's original plan to thwart an attack that rewrites cause and effect? Using Rho Aias was a last moment reaction to a subversion that, all things considered, is a lot simpler to deal with. TBH it honestly never made sense, even in the source material, for Lancer to use that.

Technically thats no where close to her full power. She can't unleash the full power of excalibur unless the world itself is in danger, as (for fate anyways) its the weapon that protect the world. So it powers up in response to a need, which is also why its considered by many heroic spirits to be the most powerful weapon, despite their obviously being weapons out there that are better at killing / mass destruction / etc. Theoretically, the only true limit to her power is how much "energy" or mana/spirit/chi/energy drinks the world itself has, since the world is its power.
Nope she's nowhere near her FP as her full power Excalibur is so strong that it could literally deflect Ea even though gil used 1/4 of it's actual power but it wouldn't make much of a difference if used at full power because of Avalon but however Ea could still kill saber if Gil used Ea at the earth below but then the counter force would kill Gilgamesh if he ever thinks of doing so and yeah pretty much Avalon saber is one of the few counters for Ea
Cutting back and forth between Rin wailing on Caster and Rho Aias shattering? Absolute perfection. The original had the two scenes play out one at time, but this is so much better thematically and for pacing.

I really like the "change" in story. In the original i never really understood EMIYAS Motives. Clearly his words never matched his actions but i never noticed that this was actually part of his plan. So i appreciate the "dumbing down" for me by this series a lot.

It all makes sense. Zero is grim, filled with bloodshed and divine retribution for hubris, and almost a "foundational myth" for the later parts of the saga.

Shirou got saved by Kiritsugu but because he never got those anchors that are Saber, Rin, and Sakura he was but a makeshift raft in a vast ocean doing only what he knows through the one dream he had
I could go on more, but I guess you get my drift that a small choice could have a large impact and determine how someone gets saved and how they reach salvation

Honestly it still amazes me that an abridged delivered one of the best gut punches of a franchise. The writing, the delivery, him stopping halfway and the anger with which he says "Oh never mind" like he hates it almost as much as he hates himself, it's all perfect
It also adds more to his backstory, since we know Archer is Shiro from another timeline where he was unable to get Saber to give up her desire for the Grail. The anger and frustration he has at her showing humanity in this timeline when she didn't for him, it really shows Archer's pain.

Holy Fuck, it took me almost an hour to realize it, but Shirou and Emiya thing about being, Nightwing and Batman, WORKS.
Archer as Batman works way too well, plus his parallel with Shirou being Nightwing works too!
Shirou is about to show that those ideals don't have to be dark and gritty, but hopeful and full of light.
And Archer has to realize it himself.
And the thing is, Bruce wanted Dick to not turn out like him. Which ironically, made Dick the perfect person to take up the mantle of Batman when Bruce has disappeared for an extended period or died.

The one time he decides "You know what? Fuck Shirou". She decides that the people around her are worth more than her ideals.

It was viewed as her discarding her humanity in order to become a king. In fate route, since shirou treated her as a normal girl instead of a servant. She is considerably more stoic and serious than in ubw or hf. And her wish was not that she wanted to redo the sword of selection and be happy. She wanted to delete the girl Artoria from the past and the saber herself would become a counter guardian once she obtained the holy grail. So the theme of fate route was shirou trying to accept her past, move on and live for herself(preferably with him). He succeeded in the end by making saber rejecting the grail even before they realize it was corrupted.
According to Nasu, Archer's route played out almost like in the fate route except that he could not save saber's humanity.
So he was being salty that abridged shirou made saber stop pursuing grail without trying.

This is unironically one of the highest quality abridged series to exist, like some episodes alone put it at the top, its just so high quality in terms of effort and care, which is not to say others dont show that, but there's always very genuine about how mouthwash does things and thats communicated so well in the script, voice acting, editing and music choices.

Rin's voice acting on 'the plan' was flawless. I can hear the exclamation marks jumping off the script and into my ears.
Shirou's deadpan was the perfect counter part.

@janseanmarwyn4703 Ehh...I don't know about that. Zouken is basically a body-hopping lich who convinces "allies" to give up their daughters to be violated by evil worms. Kirei at least was *trying* to not be a monster at the start of Fate/Zero until Gilgadouche had to show up and urge him into evil. Really most of the HGW crap traces back to Zouken's ambitions, since he and his buddies came up with the HGW system in the first place, no?

Okay, but. I have to think I wasn't the only one who thought Caster's whole "a humble girl trying to find her way in this crazy topsy-turvy world" while reminiscing was her embellishing memories, when in fact that was exactly what they said to each other. I love that.
