      I know this build was a long time ago, but if you'd had kept the original side cut-offs from the hull, they will have made for a fun new catamaran/flats-skiff build, just sayin'. Love re-watching these DiY videos.

    Interesting. Stumbled on your channel this afternoon. I'm nearing the end of a re-build, a 3' beam by 14' length crappie boat into a cheap, low power, efficient adventure skiff.
    Cut out the 3 seats, laid in and glassed 3" of foam on the bottom a la Carolina Skiff. Aft bulkhead for a splashwell; may deck over some of the front. Have a tent that will be modified to allow sleeping aboard despite rain or bugs. Powered by a 9.9 Yam, she runs at 26 mph top speed like a giant ski. Kind of scary. :) Good cruise in the upper teens though. Eventually I'll get some video up.
    Subbed, liking your content!

      Yes Yes and Yes! This is so great! Sounds like my kinda skiff and adventure! I would love to see it, video/photos, anything! Definitely get some content of it and share for the world to see!. We need more "outside of the box" influence out there, inspiring people to make cool $hi% haha. On a related side note, the next build I am uploading is a similar adventure skiff, one I traveled over 1,000 miles on , sleeping on board... pretty cool story to it as well. Stay tuned, because it's right up you alley!! Cheers buddy and thank you for sharing your thoughts/build !!

    Great work! Very clever repurposing of an otherwise ordinary hull. Did you just fill in the little V-shaped gaps at the bow, between the Nidacore and Divnincyl with a few extra layers of CSM/1708 to make everything nice and flush? Keep up the great work!

    • @diywaterworld
      @diywaterworld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Karl, thank you for the feedback and great question! Yes, that's exactly what I did. Added several layers of 1708 in a tapered fashion and then while still wet I mixed some putty (resin / aeosil combo) and used it as "bondo" to smooth it all out. I wished I would have spent some time going through the processes a little better on video. It's just really difficult to work/ get in the groove and be filming it all. :/ I'm learning though and hopefully with time the quality of the videos improves and can become a bit more technical/how to . Time will tell! Cheers!

    Do you have titles for these old boat restorations or do you register them as homemade?

    • @diywaterworld
      @diywaterworld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Phillip. Thanks for the great question. I think I’m actually going to do a video on registering these type of projects based on the amount of people out there wanting to know. Haha. :)
      So This one came with a title so was easy. There’s a couple ways to do legal paperwork on boats .
      But First , here is the common “homemade” way , ( not legal) which is essentially trying to register a Manufactured boat as if you built it. People get away with this in Florida because if the boat is under 16’ it does not require an FWC inspection. This way is definitely not the legal way.
      Legal Option 1: if a title is not attainable / old owner is unknown or cannot be found. But you have the boats info/ hull identification number. You CAN pay the FWC to “investigate” and after $300-$600 , they will present you with the registered owner / and or legal documents to register the boat properly.
      Legal option 2: if your vessel has no identifiable numbers on it ... no HIN or registration stickers , then the vessel indeed can be inspected by an FWC officer and you can apply for a new state issued HIN ( hull identification number). This is not costly, and actually the inspection is free. Your registered “make” will be listed as “Homemade “even though it is not. That’s simply how they do it in Fl.
      Hope this helps! Thanks for the comment!

    • @diywaterworld
      @diywaterworld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Brian, much appreciated! The brand is ZEC Grinding Disc. They make them in multiple grits and diameters. I typically use the 24 or 36 grit disc. They are hard to find in local shops (here in Stuart, Fl) but I know Fiberglass Florida Inc sells them. They are not listed on their website but the Stuart Location has them and they can likely ship! @@diywaterworld Used to make surfboards and always wore a 3m mask with a particulate (purple cartridge) and organics filter when sanding and polishing. I have since worked in the chemical industry and have had safety training for asbestos where they also mention fiberglass, silica and other particulates that can cause similar symptoms and cancers as asbestos. Read about it. You want to see your kids grow up and it comes a lot faster than you will realize. You have a great life, and it looks like a partner that lets you have fun. I want to see more of your builds, I like the way you think out of the box and put things together. I want a panga, but I am pretty sure my wife will stop that and not let me get another boat. Sorry to preach to you, I have just seen what has happened to my friends over time.
