I first heard this about 3 years ago. And I find myself drawn back to it time and again. I am not a diehard Trace Adkins fan by any means. Trace has songs that I like and songs that I'm indifferent about. I haven't heard anything that I dislike. He has fun songs and party songs. But this song in particular is the most moving and heartfelt that I have ever heard Trace do. It pulls you in and holds your heart in check and keeps it there until the last note fades away. Then it lingers in your heart because you can't outrun the way it pulled your heart strings any more than the lost love this song seems is about.

I couldn't agree more. I'm not even that big of a country music fan. But this is such a powerful performance, vocal and lyrics. But I suspect that when Trace went on to his own, and new label, this got lost in the shuffle of who owns it, and they didn't want to promote something where label wasn't going to see the full benefit of it. The ugly and stupid side of the music business, especially in Nashville. They've become even more shallow/pop/cookie cutter/formula oriented than the west coast. There are 20 artists, and everyone else gets their song creations funneled up to those artist who are already a sure thing. They are trying to punish Trace for leaving the machine, IMHO.

I first heard this song because of Home Free, I fell in love with it. I LOVE Home Free's rendition, But it is such a different feel to Trace's original, the Piano and Cello form such a haunting sound, ad Trace's AMAZING voice, truly a song that sends shivers down my spin every time I hear it!
This song like MANY other songs speak of the kind of love affair inherent in a relationship with Heavenly Father. . I can visualize one of God's kids singing this song as a wayward son realizing, in the depth of his rebellion, that he can not outrun his Loving Creator. GREAT SONG!

I couldn't agree more. I'm not even that big of a country music fan. But this is such a powerful performance, vocal and lyrics. But I suspect that when Trace went on to his own, and new label, this got lost in the shuffle of who owns it, and they didn't want to promote something where label wasn't going to see the full benefit of it. The ugly and stupid side of the music business, especially in Nashville. They've become even more shallow/pop/cookie cutter/formula oriented than the west coast. There are 20 artists, and everyone else gets their song creations funneled up to those artist who are already a sure thing. They are trying to punish Trace for leaving the machine, IMHO.
This song came out right after I lost both my parents. It truly is his BEST performance. I too wish they would re release it!!
In a few weeks HomeFree will release a Cover, i´m sure it will touch our hearts like the original song....
