- Trace Adkins (vocalist, guitarist) performs the American folk song "The Wayfaring Stranger" for the Johnny Cash tribute of the 2011 GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
This is one of my favorite renditions of this song, along with Emmylou Harris in 1980 and Driftwood in 2010. - เพลง
Saw Trace open for Martina McBride in Shreveport. Their tour bus had crashed on the way to the arena killing a man. Trace came out and told the crowd the situation and said he wouldn’t ask his band to play that night under the circumstances because they were hurting. Trace sat down and sang this song and then walked offstage. So solemn and very appropriate for the circumstances. Some were angry that he didn’t do the show but I felt it was a classy way to honor the deceased and hurting.

This song means a great deal to me. I lost 2 men under my Command. Two of my friends are suffering the ravages of Agent Orange and I am a Follicular Lymphoma Cancer Survivor (no radiation treatments in 2 years). I have heard other versions - but this one by Trace Adkins is by far the best

Cassie Ehrismann I just now heard it, and I appreciate the tip. But I'm going to stay with Trace's interpretation because to me it makes the lyrics more meaningful, and his voice is perfect for this kind of song. That's just my take.

Trace Adkins singing a folk song? Never thought I'd see the day. But his deep baritone voice does justice to the song. I always loved the song sung by Emilou and so many other great folk singers - I used to sing it myself. Good for Trace for joining in. I love this song. First heard it sung by Andy Griffith. It inspired me to research the song and I learned all the lyrics to it. Sadly I have never heard anyone sing all 4 verses to it, and they need to be sung.
Here are all the lyrics. Please, Trace or somebody, bless us all with the complete song. It doesn't need instrumentals or modernized lyrics. Just sing it what it says, in the same melody of what Trace sings here.

This is a beautiful song. It was sang at my Nephew's Funeral. I was really taking it hard but this song brought more tears. He was a wonderful man. 😢😢

My youngest son died in June, 2016 at age 27 of heat stroke. He had a 3 wk old baby boy when he died. Our minister sang this song at his funeral. I also had this song at my mother's funeral. And I want it sung at. my funeral as well.

@@mmooppaarr6699 it was originally sang by Scots-Irish men who were immigrating from their homeland and were immediately thrown into the Civil War and this hymn was their reminder of home and their hopefully joyous afterlife to raise their spirits. I can't possibly imagine what they went through so I'll stick with the bluegrass version and say a prayer that their souls made it home and their families prospered from their sacrifice. I hear a stark incongruity between the sorrowful, despondent lyrics of the fatally wounded (a Civil War era song) and the powerful, strong, mighty voice of this singer.

Lost my Mom last week. Of course I know I have work still here to do but I know one day I will go. Wish I had been able to be with her before she died though. I don't know why but she never let me say goodbye, don't know why I thought this time would be any different but I still wish she had let me be there!!!
