Don Felder with another iconic riff. Understated, doesn't overpower, but blends perfectly with Timothy's beautiful voice. Exactly what the song required.
I agree. When Randy left Eagles, Timothy was dropped right into the deep end of the pool. This shows that it was a good move for Timothy, and a good move for the Eagles. 💟
@ZoeyKnows Well, Joe is certainly a great guitar player too. They have different styles that blended together very well on the songs they played together on. But I do think Don was the guitar backbone for the Eagles. It's unfortunate that the two Mega egos didn't really want to have a band, just backup players for them. This song proves how stupid that mindset was. At least Don got some of what was coming to him through the courts. But we got robbed of a lot more music that we should have had.

The intro, the left hand keyboard bass line playing off the bass guitar's intermittent notes, Tim's voice, Henley's Walsh's and Frey's harmonies, a 2nd keyboard with Walsh and keeping it just to Felder on the guitar, made for a gentle, loving, transcendental masterpiece.

I"m a 46 yr old blk woman living in Compton. And I tell you, when this song comes on my shuffle playlist, all I can do is sit back, relax in my garden, and feel the words and the music. Songs like this are a rare commodity but so much needed today.
Just stunningly beautiful - the blend of Timothy's sweet voice with the bass-line and the layering of the instruments enveloping the melody is just the sweetest outcome: I was at Co-op Arena in Manchester last Saturday, 1 June 2024, for Eagles "The Long Goodbye" tour and they were simply sublime. This is one of my favourite tracks. An evening I will treasure for the rest of my life. I'm 60 now and this sort of music still makes my heart leap with joy!
The intro is a time machine. The first beat you hear immediately transports you to the 70's, 80's and 90's. Such a wonderful and timeless masterpiece from the Eagles.
I have always loved this song, but seeing the studio session just recently has been awesome! Watching Timothy Schmit’s facial expressions and hearing his beautiful voice is amazing. Each and every member is so talented--all being able to do lead vocals as well as play multiple instruments! All members’ voices work to produce a beautiful harmony. Also, the beautiful guitar solo by Don Felder is superb. Listening to this song takes me back to my childhood!
You are right that he was an essential part of the band, but he did not actually write or play the solo in this song. That was Glenn Frey. Felder played the solo live so Frey could play the Fender Rhodes piano.

This is R&B music. Played specifically during the "Quiet Storm". Glenn Frey grew up in Detroit during the height of the Motown. That music never left his soul. Great vocal by Timothy Schmit
This song wouldn’t be this song without Timothy B Schmidt. Such a beautiful voice! Harmonies perfect, melts my heart and soul ❤ The Eagles are timeless ❤
Timothy B. Schmidt brought this song with him when he joined the Eagles. It was his song and he sings it better than anyone else ever could. Don Felder's lead on it could not be better. I heard an interview one time where he said this lead just came to him the first time they played the song.
Were all old now. I listened to Eagles in my late teens. Im now 67 yrs old. Have a 44 yr old daughter and 3 granddaughters. Still with the man I married in 1978.
I am almost the same age My granddaughter loves the eagles along with many other old songs country and rock once she started listening to the lyrics of old and new it made a huge difference in her playlist selections
I'm 62 and got married very young, but was married to the same man until he passed In 2015... I have 3 children with him and 7 grandkids now... Those years were truly the best listening to great bands like The Eagles!
Wait... I took the time tonight at 1:15am PST to watch the expressions on each of their faces because this song has always ripped me to shreds... the words, instruments, that deep moving beginning on the piano to the sadness at the end with the guitar. Oh and the harmony of them all behind Timothy. #musicislife
@@Robin-xt7yo it seems to be a common theme that a lot of fans specifically give Felder a lot of praise. Don't get me wrong- I understand he's talented. None of these songs exist though without Henley and Frey's writing ability. Any Eagles praise starts with them in my opinion.
Nobody has ever done it quite like the eagles did. And every single member of the band has boat loads of talent, all being able to play and perform multiple instruments, all being able to sing lead vocals, backups, harmonies and what have you. It’s incredible how these wildly talented individuals somehow met each other along the way and put out hit after hit after hit for decades. Love the eagles, very high on my all time favorite band list. 🤙😎
A timeless song! So much talent in one recording studio. Some songs can only be sung by a particular person with that unique voice. Timothy B. Schmit owns this song!
I agree. I'm 50 and known about the Eagles for years. (SInce I was 5 I was hearing their wonderful music). But this song I JUST DISCOVERED as I don't recall it being on the radio. I LOVE this song and I agree, Timothy does it great justice. Anyone who tries to cover this HAS SOME BIG SHOES TO FILL! That's all I can say.
Music from the 1970s has a special kind of passion and depth that you just don’t find today. The powerful vocals, amazing instrumentals, and lyrics that really mean something, they resonate with me. The Eagles nailed it , blending authenticity and artistry in a way that still speaks to people today.
No they don't make music like this anymore. Music change & time moves on. Such great memories, great legends are the Eagles, & my favorite song too from the Eagles greatest hits. 🦅🎤🎧🎹🎸🥁🎙️🎛️🎚️🎼🎶🎵💯❤️😃👍🏾
thats because they worked their asses off on them!!! Such talent, at this point they were really burnt out , strung out form the road, fighting, coked out ..but able to hold it together to make this epic LP!!
Miss Glenn so, so much😞. Didn't know he was in so much pain for so long😪😪😪. But, omg!!! He still helped produced some of the best music EVER! And his special voice can't copied. Amazing special group.

This is one of the groups that you could listen to your entire Life and NEVER become tired of listening to or even growing out of. 70's & 80's were good good years for music. And Thank Goodness for the Eagles
great timing and for appreciation of the Eagles. Hope you made it to the righteous brothers and Al Greene et al. Don’t miss early recording of Starry, starry night, or American Pie❤❤❤
This song warms my heart to the core every time I hear it. Never gets old. Makes me quiver. That organ and Timothy B. Schmitt on those vocals. Just pure perfection!!!!!
I turned 60 this fall and I find myself reflecting more on the years God has blessed me to have and listening to the Eagles puts me in a place where I was living for the moment and looking for the next fun thing to do and just enjoying my youth and thinking it would never end. I don't believe I'll ever get tired of listening to this band.
Same age. An Eagles tape was womb music for my 3 babies (and they loved them as grown ups). Later I saw the Eagles in Glasgow - from the 3rd row! - fantastic
RIP the two members of The Eagles Randy Meisner (March 8, 1946 - July 26, 2023), aged 77 Glenn Frey (November 6, 1948 - January 18, 2016), aged 67 You both will be remembered as legends.
We are running out of genius of such a kind, and sincerely nowadays we do not have an stardom of musicians, voices, etc have gone Mr. Bennett too, one of the last living legends, if not the last. I do hope no one try to do that kind of revamps, let's talk about Queen, without Mercury, Supertramp, without Hodgson or Davies, the list shall be long enough.
November 2024 and always listen to the . music of my era . Love the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac,CSNY Led Zeppelin etc . This is when music was 🎵🎶 music and not like it is now very disappointing.
Timothy B. Schmit on vocals is so damn smooth. Everyone in this band is a lead singer, and that makes the Eagles so versatile. I can't think of another band where all members sings lead on different songs like this. I'm sure there is, but I can't think of one off the top of my head.

This song is like a good meal. You enjoy it bite by bite, savoring every moment and never wanting it to end. What a wonderful piece of music. Total therapy for the mind, spirit and soul. Love the Eagles. 💖
Randy and Timothy sang with undeniable and irreplaceable emotion, which makes their performances, even though few and far between, live in our hearts forever. The light will shine through no matter the effort to surpass it.
This song takes me back to 1980 when I worked at a daycare center. It was the first song that played when I turned on the radio 📻 every early morning before the kids started arriving. Thank you, Eagles, for keeping me company & inspiring me to harmonize. I'm not a singer, but for several months, I'd answer in song, "I can't tell you why.... I can't tell you whyyyy" whenever anyone asked me anything I didn't know.
In one word....Masterpiece! They just don't make music like this anymore, sadly. So much extraordinary talent in this band. RIP Randy and Glenn 🙏 This is a timeless gem 💜
Music like this is 100% still being made, it's just not mainstream and generally won't be played, promoted or invested in by such outlets. There's a wealth of great music still being produced, it just requires more effort on the part of the artists, as well as the consumer, to find one another (though visual media is a great source, and the same rule as above generally applies). You may like "Something Holy" by Phoebe Lou Alice, "Approximately 906 miles" by Harrison Fjord, "The Edge" by Cant, "We're all gonna die" by Dawes, or some songs by Grizzly Bear, BadBadNotGood (more jazzy), My Morning Jacket (start with Don Dante), and expand from there. We live in an age where there's such an enormous expanse of options that it can be hard to know where to start, but imo, your best bet is to be adventurous, keep your mind and ears open and remain observant, 'cause there's no shortage of opportunities to capture magic in this life, we just tend to let is slip past us far too often.
No one could ever sing this song like Timothy B. Schmidt sings it. So much emotion , and The Eagles harmonizing in the background with that guitar makes for a GREAT song. 🎤🎧🎸🎶🎵🎹
The Eagles have always amazed me in the fact that they already had a wealth of talent with singing and songwriting. But then to bring in Joe and Timothy is something that put them in the stratosphere. i dont think there has been a recording studio with that amount of musical talent in one room since. Every member sings and plays to perfection. Then your bass player is like "hey guys, i got a song." And lays this down. Amazing.

Condolences dear, though I'm far from you I am close to you with my heart also through this song 💞
Sorry for the loss of your father. Many blessings coming your way ❤
God Schmidt is such a talent. The whole damn band. Simply unreal.
True!!!!
I"m a 46 yr old blk woman living in Compton. And I tell you, when this song comes on my shuffle playlist, all I can do is sit back, relax in my garden, and feel the words and the music. Songs like this are a rare commodity but so much needed today.
Good music like this is missing from today’s music
Absolutely. How just the intro transports me, so wild… love it. Need it.
The best song
You 46 me 65 they're music is the best.
Amen
The way this song fixes my soul.
Everything you said, classic.
Olsd
No, it transports one to anywhere people can play and sing with capacity, where music is the goal and tech is only the means to realise the music.
Ohh totally was. Sends chills just listening to their songs..
Yes it does !
Did I say how beautiful his hair was?
Very well said and I feel the same way about Timothy, whew!! 😅

I was 21 in '79. The best music came from that time. I dance around my house to all of it.
I want to go back in time.
I was 18 in '79 right out of HS. The 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s really were the best years.. especially mid-seventies through the mid-eighties.
I feel you buddy

Felder’s work was priceless. They really dropped the ball with him, IMO.
You are right that he was an essential part of the band, but he did not actually write or play the solo in this song. That was Glenn Frey.
Felder played the solo live so Frey could play the Fender Rhodes piano.
Felder’s guitar is soooooo sexy…
Don Felder on lead guitar ... that lazy, smoothly way of playing ... Genius ...
Damn, I love that riff!!
Don was a genius
Haunting solo. Excellent.
Love it!!

That's why he was called Don "fingers" Felder. He's one of my favorites.

This is R&B music. Played specifically during the "Quiet Storm". Glenn Frey grew up in Detroit during the height of the Motown. That music never left his soul. Great vocal by Timothy Schmit
You know this is a master piece that you can hear chewbacca at 00:35 approving it
This song wouldn’t be this song without Timothy B Schmidt. Such a beautiful voice! Harmonies perfect, melts my heart and soul ❤ The Eagles are timeless ❤
Sooo true...
Beautifully sung !!❤❤❤❤❤
He is my favorite!!
Timothy B. Schmidt brought this song with him when he joined the Eagles. It was his song and he sings it better than anyone else ever could. Don Felder's lead on it could not be better. I heard an interview one time where he said this lead just came to him the first time they played the song.
Loved Randy, RIP, but agree, would've been a completely different song with him on Lead Voc. Nobody else could sing this song except Timothy
This song is timeless. And that last minute and a half always gives me the chills. My favorite eagles tune for life ❤
Yep that's my favorite part too... Love it!!!!
Glenn Frey did the solo while cutting the album which shocked me. Nobody does it better than Don Felder though.
One of my favorite vocal performances ever... Absolute masterpiece here...

Were all old now. I listened to Eagles in my late teens. Im now 67 yrs old. Have a 44 yr old daughter and 3 granddaughters. Still with the man I married in 1978.
You should say “Thank you God” because you’ve been blessed!
I am almost the same age My granddaughter loves the eagles along with many other old songs country and rock once she started listening to the lyrics of old and new it made a huge difference in her playlist selections
You are blessed🙏
I am 61 and have been dragged through many relationships💔
I'm 66, we're not old, we're classic like this music. My late husband and I used to play our albums on Saturday night.
I'm 62 and got married very young, but was married to the same man until he passed In 2015... I have 3 children with him and 7 grandkids now... Those years were truly the best listening to great bands like The Eagles!
That final guitar solo hits hard...nostalgia, sorrow, melancholy. It's all there.
Was just thinking the same.....
great description..... adjectives. I'm old enough to know this song, but appreciate more now......
You wouldn't think an electric guitar could elicit emotion, but it sure can. Very similar to the guitar solo in Toto's "I Won't Hold You Back".
Absolutely!
Wait... I took the time tonight at 1:15am PST to watch the expressions on each of their faces because this song has always ripped me to shreds... the words, instruments, that deep moving beginning on the piano to the sadness at the end with the guitar. Oh and the harmony of them all behind Timothy. #musicislife
They’re not oldies…they’re classics♥️
They’re timeless
We Sure Are ; Just Like Cars 🤭
I agree
Well said.
Oldies are good, but really that is a genre of 1950s Music, a la "Blue Moon."
The Eagles make it look so easy to create beautiful music. Don Felder’s guitar and Timothy’s vocals are a perfect blend.
ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER RECORDED.

The ultimate slow dance song from JR- SR HIGH
True!!!!
Agree!
The amount of harmony in the Eagles is insane, this song is so beautiful
When you have talent like this you put out greatness
The instrumental at the end is the best part of the song though. 4:48-6:20
And total disharmony off stage
@richbrake9910 that instrumental is my favorite part too! Kudos to Don Felder.

I moved to California in 1973. I listened to the Eagles every single day! Married my husband there! This music holds so many memories …

This is the literal recording of the album song. I wish I could scream to the world and have somebody feel. How beautiful this is to me.
Even after 40 years, this song by the Eagles touches my heart. Timothy's voice does justice to this composition.
Timothy Schmit has the best vocals in many of their songs. His lead singing is always spot on!

Wish he’d sang lead on more of their songs
I think randy was better..
I love Tim but Randy would've killed this too!
@@tripto Both Randy & Tim were members of Poco and bounced around between the two bands. Poco was a more rounded group than the Eagles.

Music from the 1970s has a special kind of passion and depth that you just don’t find today. The powerful vocals, amazing instrumentals, and lyrics that really mean something, they resonate with me. Randy Meisner (March 8, 1946 - July 26, 2023), aged 77
Glenn Frey (November 6, 1948 - January 18, 2016), aged 67
You both will be remembered as legends.

Amazing.
