Great to see the late Kal David in this clip. First saw/heard him in 69 or 70 in Illinois Speed Press, got to open for him 10 or 12 times during his Fabulous Rhinestone days. Always been a big fan of his voice and his guitar style. RIP Kal!
KAL DAVID THE REAL DEAL ! One night in a club where he was performing in Palm Springs we talked about The Fillmore East and when he played there with John Mayall many years ago.
@Tblanktim-mu1bh That's some fertile ground in which to have ones roots. The Blues breakers was not only a pinnacle of blues music, it was the foundation upon which many legendary musicians cut their teeth before taking their place in the history of blues guitar. Thanks for the flash from the past. Now I'm heading off on a detour. So much of the British rock and blues of the late sixties onward for sixty years or so now, can trace origins back to Mayall and his Bluesbreakers. It's hard to think of any other single musician who has had such a formative influence in the music world. Where's my guitar,,,, gotta shake some blues off those strings.
@pauldobberstein5643 I'm hip. One of my favorite albums still, is Mayall's "Back to the Roots". With Clapton, Mick Taylor, and I think maybe Freddie Robinson(of Jazz Blues Fusion album) is on it also.
Here is the gem which shows that even respected roots blues can be played yet soully and tenderly still carrying certain sadness though like light breeze.
It was hard to get there from where I lived (Old Lyme, CT) but the Shaboo was an excellent place to see top notch bands back in the 1970s. I saw Roy Buchanan, Johnny Winter, B.B. King, Kingfish, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Hot Tuna, NRBQ, Taj Mahal, and a couple others that I can't recall. Tried like hell to see Tommy Bolin there but couldn't get a ride. He passed away not long after that. Same thing with solo Lowell George.
What a great tune. The white bird really makes this presentation a showing and allowing the bird to sing like it should. All birds don't sound the same but this one cut through to a grand height of it greatness and those who can wield it's freedom to sound proudly .
