  • In this video we get the second flight in on the Goosky RS7! Heli is flying great but we definitely need to get the governor working and get a consistent head speed! This the perfect representation on why you need a governor.

I never understood what a Governor would be used for. But this makes total sense after watching it. It reminds me of how my M1 and more so on the M2 of how it reacts to a backflip. The RPM's drop pretty bad when recovering and settling in, inverted for a second before picking back up. Since I still haven't setup anything on ANY heli yet, and still gathering info before I start messing with things on that new 580 this is REALLY helpful. I was even wrong in my thinking as to why one was needed on a Gas heli. When a person thinks "Governor" on a gas engine in a car you think "Limit" like if you put a block of wood behind the accelerator pedal. So if you push the pedal hard or soft, it won't make a difference in how fast the car will accelerate. Maybe I'm still wrong, lol. But NOW at least I SEE and understand what it does for a heli.

A governor just keeps a consistent head speed at your targeted RPM. So that way it can add or take away power as needed throughout your flight. It doesn’t limit the helicopter by any means. Unlike a car where it governed your speed, the governor is just keeping that targeted RPM so you have a more consistent flight.

Yes what Jeff said but your m1 and m2 use tqally or one of those acronyms to control the tail it will increase and decrease head speed while changing the tail speed to keep it straight . It has nothing to do with the gov on an m1 and m2 . I actually don’t think they have a gov because it would cause the tail to loose control. M1 and M2 size heli are a toy compared to anything 300 and up with tail pitch .

yep lol a gobernor on small gas engines is a different concept than gobernor in the rc heli hobby, the gobernor on gas engines are to avoid blowing up the motor by reving it up too much, in the heli hobby is like the cruise control of the vehicles going up and down the hills to maintain constant speed but in helis mantain the rpm´s

    Guys.
I just want to say just like most of you watching this video. I'm, I'm very deep into rc helicopters.
I recently picked up a Spirit GT fbl controller, and I can not speak highly enough about it. It is easy to set up and has a plethora of features, and that automatic rescue at whatever altitude you set it at works flawlessly.
I just want to put that out there because i've seen good companies come and go. Like Skookum robotics.

Whats up WHRC.... hey I'm a little lost on the governor topic. Do all helis need to have a governor setup? I'm doing a 500 raw build with the Brian FBL, Theta servos, 120 HW esc, and a 900KV Lighting motor. Just curious if you think setting up the governor is just for certain size helis, or if we should be setting one up for all helis.
