The Mastercraft sounds good, but the Sierra is far superior, enjoyed your video Mick from England

Hey mick! Thanks for watching! Yes I agree the Sierra is a much better instrument. But for a beginner the master craft is a really good one too!

Thank you. I own a 12-string Rickenbacker, 2 Strats, Taylor dreadnaught, Córdoba nylon acoustic, 42-year old Yamaha 6-string acoustic (strung with Nashville strings), Squier P-bass, and a tenor and soprano ukulele. I’m a hack at all of them, but nobody has more fun than I do. 😆 Take care and stay safe. Best wishes from the San Francisco Bay Area.

I own a Mastercraft elite I believe that’s what it’s called. It has a cast tone ring and sounds great. They are no longer making my particular banjo. I’m not sure about the others. It was about $679.00 when I bought it quite a few years ago. It’s been collecting dust up until the bug bit me again. Great video!

Thanks It would be great to play both at the same time or one leading into the other without a voice over. I forget (brain injury) the sound with even a small verbal intro. I'm looking at a Mastercraft. You made it sound awesome!

The Mastercraft sounds more punchy and twangy and the Deering is warmer and more mellow. Both sound good but I love the sound of the Deering. I love my Goodtime 2 banjo. Great little comparison for sure. I'm really surprised you don't have more subscribers, your content is really good. Im 5 subs behind you and my junk is not quite to you level all be it totally different subject matter.

Oh thank you, I have not really put enough effort into it. I mainly want to help beginners with questions I had when I was beginning. But that was nice of you to say. I will check you out tomorrow and give you a follow.

Most banjos sound good by themselves. But the rubber hits the road when you get them in a jam situation with other instruments playing. You'll understand it if you ever get a chance to try different banjos in a jam. A cheap banjo just can't hold up in sound, tone, and volume.

The Deering sounds "smoother" and the MC sounds angrier. I like the Deering.

    • @BanjoAddict

WHAAAAAT?! I'm embarrassed that I bought my Recording King for $500 with all case, spikes installed, good capo, etc. and it has NO TONE RING!! I feel quite foolish...but THANKS for this video and bringing that to my attention, cuz if I can unload this Recording King, Im DEFINITELY looking into those MASTERCRAFT, or just save up for Gold Tone's "Twanger"!!

@@jakesmet9426 you can swap pots. Recording king used to sell a pot assembly that was the same exact ones they put in their RK models but they discontinued it, they were popular because for the price the sound was hard to beat. But on banjo hangout you can find used pots often with tone rings already fitted and they are usually ready to bolt on. The necks on those recording kings are the same for the most part. A little creativity can yield you great results

@@jakesmet9426no tone ring is ok. It’s all in the setup and the tone ur looking for. Iv seen some really good sounding ones.
